I have been wondering this same thing.  I found a site yesterday http://www.ask.com/bar?q=Measure+Muscle+Mass& amp;page=1&qsrc=0&ab=2&u=http%3A% 2F%2Finchaweigh.tripod.com%2Fcalc_body_fat.ht m entered my numbers and was shocked at how much body Fat I had.  So I set a goal to lose 10% body fat in 6 months.  I used the link above and YEA for me I lost 11% body fat in less then 24 hours (I don't think so Yell).  I guess I am back to square one, not knowing my BF%.

Thanks.  My scale gives me my BMIbut not my Fat %, I did not see that one when I got mine, also from Bed bath and beyond...how funny.  I also find that my scale will give me very strange BMI readings I will lose a pound or two and my BMI will go up a percent or two.  Then I put my numbers in here and will get a much lower BMI.  Crazy Tongue out

Just in general.  He talks about losing weight vs. losing fat and how it is important to not lose muscle mass.  I did find this site, which is helpful, not sure how accurate.

You can increase your protein intake.  Even if it is just a protein shake or adding protein powder to yogurt or the milk in cereal.  I think it is about 120 calories per scoop of protein powder that would help increase your calories and add about 30 grams (give or take) of protein to your diet.

That is what I was thinking because I am 126 lbs which puts me at 882 cal.  I was thinking about trying it for about 2 weeks but I am not sure if I will be able to stick to it.  Because I am hungry already.

OK, now what happens when that number drops below 1200.  Do you disregard the all famous rule to never eat less then 1200 cal?

For some un-known reason I have stopped all efforts to lose weight.  I have been maintaining OK, which is great so at least I am not back at square one.  But it is time to get back on the wagon and work hard so I will join you again for 5lbs by November 1.  Here is where I am at as of now:

6/16/08: 129lbs

10/1/08: 121lbs

Fitness I may need Professional Help?!? Sep 29 2008
14:43 (UTC)

Thank you this sounds like good advice.  I do the FIRM work outs (with the weights) currently.  I want to up the number of times I work out in a week as well as the amount of weight I use.  Currently I am using 3-5 lbs sometimes 8 lb dumbbells; not because I am afraid of getting big but because I am weak and can not finish my work out if I use heavier weights.  Thank you for the help.  And I will get that book.

Fitness Curves - hey is this a good workout??? Sep 09 2008

I do an at home version that I have adapted to my fitness level and it works pretty good.  The basic idea is to alternate a cardio work out (jump rope, run, stair climb, etc.) with weight or resistance training (lifting, pushing, pulling).  If you are in really good shape you could use heavy weights and high intensity cardio (running).  I think at the Curves center then do 40 sec increments and I do 90 sec.  But the idea is the same, keep your heart rate up with minimal to no rest for at least 30 minutes.

Weight Loss Who has lost weight and REALLY kept it off!!! Sep 09 2008

I was a big time yo-yoer.  I would lose 15 - 20 lbs and then gain back 25.  I lost about 35 lbs in 2005 and have kept it off.  What I found to work is lose the weight slowly and make life changes not just start a diet.  For example one of my life changes was to start eating breakfast another was pack my food for work breakfast and lunch.  I had a bad habit of not eating breakfast and then getting really hungry at about 10 or 11 and buying a candy bar or muffin for the vending machine and then I would buy fast food for lunch and eat something else from the vending machine in the afternoon.  By forcing myself to think about what I will eat throughout the day and limiting myself to only what I have with me prevents extra eating (usually it was out of boredomnot hunger anyways).  As for exercise I just started making that apart of my life again I started slow and just made life changes.  I walk to my bus stop instead of making my husband drive me, I walk at lunch with some people in my office and now I have added working out in my home gym 30 - 45 minutes a day before I go to work (this is a little harder).

So I guess my advice to you would be start slow make life changes that you can live with and don't just think about losing weight but changing your life.         &nb sp;

I think I lose weight slower then paint dries.  This is crazy.  I have been working out 5-6 days a week and eating really well.  But at less then 1/2 lb a week I will never reach any of my goals.  Well I take that back I did reach my goal to be at a healthy BMI.  I have been thinking of getting a personal trainer.  Do any of you now or have you ever had a personal trainer?  If so did it help?

I am up but not as bad as I thought.  While camping I did not count or even really watch my calories and I thought I would do a lot of hiking, but it rained all weekend and I never got to go.  So I was sure I would have gained 10 lbs or more.  I am back to working out every morning, walking in the afternoons and counting my calories.  I want to hit it really hard this week and lose at least 1 lb.

This post made me LOL and has boosted my spirits beyond belief.  I now know that there are people just like me.  Crazy obsessed with what the scale says and with a belief that the scale is the enemy.  I weigh myself daily: same time, same place, same scale, and I weigh myself as many times as it takes to get two readings that are the same.  Today I was lucky it only took twice some days 6 or 8 times.  My scale also gives me my BMI; I have found this to be truly a lie.  Never the same twice and never the same as on CC or other site calculators so I ignore that number.  Great post!!
