if you went veggie (good for you!) but are still missing some "meaty" options, I would suggest Portabello Mushrooms. They're delicious, and have a WONDERFUL "beefy" taste. Nothing makes my family happier than when I make stuffed portabello mushrooms! My kids also LOVE the vegetarian meat alternatives! Morningstar, Boca and other brands make wonderful meatless alternatives to everyday favorites (like chick'n nuggets and even corn dogs!) A bonus to these, is that you get to feel like you're eating something "naughty" or fattening, but in reality, you can eat 2 of the morningstar corn dogs for the price of ONE regular corn dog (and there's no meat!) I get a lot of my protien in the morning w/ an eggwhite and mushroom omlette. Top that with a bit of reduced fat swiss cheese ::drools:: mmm heaven! |

whew, Ham is NEVER as low sodium as it says it is. I always retain water after eating ham/bacon, sausage, anything like that. Great job on the dress!!! see? small victories. This is a marathon, not a sprint! you'll reach your goals as long as you keep moving forward. here are 2 quotes that always keep me motivated: "It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop." - Confucius "Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." - Oliver Goldsmith

Original Post by kbattiato: I'm going to agree here. I weigh myself every day and log it every day. It's best to find out if something you ate/drank the day before effected you negatively (or positively!) I use my scale every morning, right when I get up with an empty bladder so I can get my body's "true" weight. (which is your weight before consuming any foods or liquids) That's also the only way to accurately calculate your BMI (which everything else is calculated from). |

Hey there, don't get discouraged! 1.2 lbs is more than likely just water weight. I take a bottle of water (the really big ones) and keep reusing it by filling it with filtered water (for recycling purposes) Drink at least ONE of those big bottles of water per day, more if you can. You'll find that you weight will start to even out. Another possibility is that you're gaining muscle mass and replacing that fat weight with muscle weight (which weighs more than fat) So try using a tape measure to track your progress as well. I've lost about 18-20 lbs and I worked SO much harder than that! I taped myself, and found out that I actually lost about 30 INCHES off my body! So even though my scale wasn't really moving the way I wanted, my inches definitely were coming off. Lastly, don't get discouraged! Just keep at it! You can do this! Eating healthy and Exercising is the ONLY way to lose weight effectively, so you're on the right track. I'm betting money that your body is dehydrated and retaining water. |

Hey Appy: try not to go below 1200 calories per day. if you're walking for 7 miles every day, then there is no reason to deprive your body of needed calories. If you eat less than 1200 calories per day, you run the risk of losing muscle mass (your body will pull protein and nutrients from your muscles to feed itself) which is NEVER good. Also, remember that muscle weighs more than fat. Always use a tape to measure your success. Inches lost are just as awesome as pounds! And even though you may not being losing weight, you might be losing inches (woohoo!) |

Original Post by tomcat14: Hey tomcat: there's no way that your body burns less than 2000 calories per day. 2000 is what almost every body on earth burns just to function (breathing, brain and internal organ function) here's a copy of a post I made last week regarding calories and calculating intake for weight loss (my husband is a nutritionist) "1500-1600 is fine for losing significant weight, if you're active. 1 lb of fat = 500 calories (per day) so if you eat 500 more calories than you burn per day, then you'll gain 1 lb per week. The same applies to weight loss (simple math) My husband is a Nutritionist and Personal Trainer (he's also Active Duty in the US Military) Here is the formula that he uses to calculate how many calories per day you should consume to lose weight: Explaining how to calculate sedentary calories burned per day is too complicated, so let's assume that you know your daily sedentary caloric burn (2230); 2230 x 7 (days in the week) = 15,610 : that's how many calories your body burns to keep your heart beating, brain working, all organs running, etc. in a week. In order to loose 1 lb per week, you would need to burn an extra 500 calories per day: 500 x 7 (days in a week) = 3500 : the amount of additional calories you would have to burn in a week to loose 1 lb 15, 610 (calories per week you burn) - 3500 (the deficit you need per week) = 12,110 calories (the amount to eat per week) if you take the calories per week you need in order to lose weight, and divide by the number of days in a week, you get your daily caloric intake needs to loose 1lb per week. 12,110 / 7 = 1730 calories per day However, I'm sure that you want to lose more weight than 1 lb per week. 2 lbs per week is the healthy amount to lose (any more than that, and you may be losing muscle mass to feed your body...not good) so you would either need to burn more calories through exercise, or eat less to loose the weight naturally; here is your equation for losing 2 lbs per week (w/ out exercise): 1000 (calories in 2lbs) x 7 (days in the week) = 7000 (deficit you need) 15, 610 (calories you burn per week) - 7000 (deficit needed) = 8,610 (calories to consume per week) 8,610 (calories per week) / 7 (days in the week) = 1230 (calories to consume per day) If you add exercise into all that, you'll burn even more, and tone yourself up! bonus! Sorry, I know that was a ton of math. lol" |

| You should eat breakfast (or something) within an hour of waking up. Otherwise. Your metabolism will slow down to compensate. For the lack of food. | |||

the weekends used to frighten the hell outta me. then I discovered Boca Burgers and MorningStar meatless products. I'm not kidding you, Morningstar Corndogs are AWESOME!!! they taste JUST like the real thing, with half the calories and even less than half the fat of regular ones. you can eat 2! if you munch on lots of fruits and veggies, you're always safe. Raspberries with 1 tbsp of chocolate syrup is also EXTREMELY decadent, my husband and I prefer it over icecream now! (even my KIDS have gotten into it!) Eating Healthy is hard, I know. but you can do it!!! |

| Weight Loss | Has anybody used Acai Berry Juice as a means to health and weight loss? | May 16 2009 13:45 (UTC) |

I never really understood why people ordered stuff of those "blogs scams" anyway...if you want to try Acai Berry supplements, and detox "cleanse" then be my guest, just go to your local pharmacy and grab some acai berry supplements and a 30 day supply of "colon cleanse". Personally? I think the Acai berry has some great energy benefits. I take the pill form, along with my daily vitamin, and I've noticed that I don't drink as much coffee (because I don't need it!) :) so the Acai works for me (Energy wise) The "cleanse"? well, I think colon cleanses are psychosymatic anyway. If YOU think it works, then it will work. it's all in your head where that is concerned. Just don't buy the crap off the internet!!! it's all a scam, and I think that calorie-count should be more wary of whom they allow to advertise on their site. |

First of all, you are perfectly in range of healthy weight for your height. Everyone carries weight differently. That being said, I don't think your choices in food are particularly great! lol Healthy weight range is one thing, but how you stay there is something completely different. I work from home, so when I clock out for the day, I'm ACHING to get out of the house. and something that my Dad once told me when I was little has always motivated me to get out and get moving: When my Mom and Dad split, my Dad bought a camper van with what little money he had left. He parked that thing at the beach, and he still lives in it today. (this was over a Decade ago) I remember visiting him at the beach, and I asked him (because my Mom was VERY well off) "Daddy, do you miss the big house, and the pool?" and he said to me: "Bug" (my nickname) "Home is where you shower and sleep. If you spend more time in your house than that, you're missing the world" then he pointed at the ocean and said "who needs a pool?" I think of this every time I'm feeling lazy. The world is passing me by while I'm sitting on my butt. Good luck to you girl. And remember, You're missing the world! |

Original Post by spirochete:
That being said, you should be doing this for YOU. My husband tried bringing crappy food home...he'd actually try to SNEAK it in! (wanker) So I would do a kitchen purge and throw all that crap away. I wouldn't give it to my husband, I won't let him eat that crap. I told him if he wants to eat it while he's at work or out with the boys, that's fine, but don't bring that **** into my house. Needless to say, he got the point. The worst thing that he brings home now are Quaker Oats Granola bars (haha!). though, when I get in the car to head to the store, I sometimes find a wrapper from a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup. lol (sneaky bugger!) Though, he bike commutes to work 4 out of 5 days a week. so I have no complaints if he scarfs down some chocolate now and then. sorry, this is getting long, anyway, you need to do this for YOU, and your husband needs to get on board. if he can't support you through something as simple as weight management, how is he supposed to support your marriage? My husband and I go to counseling, eventhough we don't really need it anymore. It's really helped us, he used to be VERY critical of me. Now? he supports me 100%, because he realizes that I do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING for him. (as it sounds like you do for your husband) Keep your chin up, you can do this! if you want to chat, feel free to email me. |

I just don't have the ENERGY to look at my treadmill and say "yeah...I'll hop on that RIGHT after dinner"

You've got support here girl! |

I ALWAYS do my daily sun salutations to the Coffee Gods. I used to add cream and sugar into my routine, but I've stopped that since going on my diet. Now, I drink my coffee black. I always said that you can tell the quality of coffee by how it tastes black. Starbucks, for instance, is garbage black. Unless you get their morning roast. Oddly, the best black coffee (grocery store) that I've found, has been Dunkin' Donuts, and Maxwell House! (very yummy!) I limit my Coffee intake to 2 mugs a day. My mother (who has been a nurse since the dawn of time) tells me that Coffee is actually very good for you, as long as you don't go overboard (just like anything, even vitamins). It's packed full of Antioxidants, and not depriving yourself will make you feel MUCH better about the weight loss process. Good luck! ^_^ |
