i hear what you guys are sayin Shiny and GI, but i get what Pen is saying. although it is exciting to lose weight quickly in the beginning, it is important not to freak out and get upset when things start to slow down. If it truly is a lifestyle change we need to stay away from the scale every single day and worrying over the occaisional treat. For first timers it is difficult, but for those of us who've been doing it for awhile we should know how to just let it flow. |

walking, for sure! i'm a stay at home mom and i'm inside a lot. walking gets me out in the fresh air, on my own. it also provides me some fantasy time: i strap on my iPod and crank up the sound. i imagine the new and imporved me doin any and everything that i could do when i was too big. |

when my kids were smaller i noticed the same thing when they came back from my parents after a day or a weekend. i dont know that my parents spoiled them exactly, but i do think that there were some things they were allowed to get away with, that i certainly didnt get to do when i was their age. is it possible to limit the time they spend there? is it possible to find out what exactly goes on over there and have a chat with your in laws about your concerns? tho i will tell you it probably wont be easy; grandparents feel a god-given right to spoil their grandchildren! maybe it would help if your husband was the one to pick your son up, or have him closely observe your son in the days after coming back from the inlaws. i find that sometimes husbands think we exaggerate things because they are not as close to it as we mothers are, being the primary caregivers. hope things work out.... |

it has been scientifially proven that attractive people get more attention...they've done it with babies: show them pictures of "traditionally" pretty people and "traditionally" ugly people. The pretty people win everytime. They've done studies that revealed that attractive children tend to get better grades in school because they get more attention from their teachers. We all know how it goes...prettiest girl in class gets all the guys and the girls wanna be just like her. |

i like what i'm hearing....i've heard it before but not backed up by science. I've just seen it in posts "plateaued?? eat more!!" and the thought kind of freaked me out. It took me awhile to get used to eating less, now i'm supposed to eat more again?? When i hit my plateau last month i got out of it by switching up my exercise routine. I'm not in one now, but things aren't movin as fast as i'd like, so i'm gonna try this. TRICK THE LEPTIN, TRICK THE LEPTIN!!!! |

cjeka said it right, no two manufactures have the same size which makes it really difficult to tell people what size i wear at the moment. I'm about 5'3, currently weigh 185 (from 220); i wear XL in tops. In some stores i'm comfy, in other stores its like second skin! It all depends on wear you go. |

thx for the concern joestephens, but its not as bad as i might have made it sound. we've gotten together a few times over the summer, and had a drink of two. But this past week was unusual because hubby and i got together with a couple of friends about 3 times this week: monday was a labour day bbq, wednesday was just for fun (kind of still feeling good from the bbq) and saturday was a birthday party. This was out of whack for me to drink so much because we dont usually have so many events in one week, and i dropped my internal guard. but i will keep on eye on the shots, and no my friends wont push me too far if I say no, i'm out thanks. i gave into the call for more because i felt like it. Please dont worry that i'm out there getting drunk nightly or weekly cause i'm not like that. like i said i dont like alcohol that much, and i know how too much makes me feel later on! thx for all your help everyone. |

thx all. even as i was writing and posting this i knew the answers i would get, cause i was telling myself the same thing. its just a matter of letting myself loose for a bit but i've recognized my behaviour as destructive. i've already made the decison to give the drinking a rest for a while, even if i go out, i'll make sure i get back into my fine form from here on out!! |

thx warbler....i do set a goal for each day, and like i said, if i know ahead of time that i will be drinkin later i leave lots of room. as i think about it, tho, i realize that i 'm jsut making excuses for myself. i've sort of been in a mood this summer to jsut be free and have a good time cause i've done so well taking care of my health and losing the weight. like i'm celebrating and enjoying life like i've never done before. I've let my guard down because its been up for so, so, so long. But you're right, its a sign. and i've seen cases on talk shows of people who were hooked on food and lost the weight but picked up something else thats why i used that title. i need to give myelf a shake and pull in the reins a bit. its really not worth it. i know i can be wild and fun without drinkin everytime. |

that's the key, isnt it? who said a lifestyle change means never eating fun foods again?? why should people who dont struggle with their weight get all the fun?? i've reached a point in this journey where i will not place guilt on myself when i eat something fun. and as you say, chasingjames, there will always be some celebration and party and get together, and no way to avoid the foods that bring us down. but with a good game plan and a bit of leeway now and then, and the knowledge that this moment does not define us, we can live like everyone else and enjoy life!! |

hey direwolf...i dont have an ED, but i've had that feeling in the past. of wanting so bad to lose weight and worrying about where all the cals are gonna go. I've tried goin without or eating as little as possible but it always backfires, because just like u, i would be absolutely starving and eat much more than i'd planned. the most important this to do is take it one day at a time. don't associate food with guilt...u need to eat to live and to live well you need to eat enough. take care of yourself and keep ranting if u need to if it helps take the pressure off.

Hey everybody!! How did you do this weekend??? So. It's the day after labour day; the day after our annual bbq. It was great! The only bad thing about it was that i had to get up to get the kids ready for school. Usually people leave about 9-9:30, but last night we went until about 11. I didnt even make an attempt to put the kids to bed. I figured if they'd survive. It would be the first time they went to be late to get early the next day. Besides, if i'd put them to bed on time they wouldnt be tired enough to sleep, not to mention the festivities downstairs! So i know you want to know how i did. Well, i did well with the food. I had a chicken burger around 5 or 6 o clock. Then somewhere in the night i had a hamburger patty by itself and then a sausage by itself. That was it. Now, the drinking was another story. I had a Smirnoff, which it took me all night to drink, because i was all over the place getting sauce and burgers and cups and whatnot. Later in the evening a bunch of us were doing shots... I hadnt planned on doing any, much less how many i did. We bought the stuff and i figured i would have one. But shots are like chips, its hard to have just one LOL!! Anyway, it was a party and i enjoyed myself, and i drank water all day, all night. No concerns, no stress, back on track this morning. Besides, the kids are off to school today, now that's a reason to celebrate! Shots anyone???

no fear, it happens! this week i was way of my game, in spite of my best attempts and intentions. Monday: canadas wonderland--shared a burger and fries for lunch, then later a hot dog and a slurpee Tuesday: shopping at the mall had Chinese for lunch (more rice than i ususally have) Wednesday: husbands office bbq--snacks and then veggie burger (high cal buns) Thursday: parents and out of town relatives came to visit, brought take out for dinner---more rice!! And because of the crazy schedule i didnt get to my workout as often as i should have. I've gained 1 lbs since last week...not much i know and its probably just water. But in the last couple of weeks i would have freaked out, esp since i had a month long plateau. But i realize now that the weight battle is not a straight line downhill like a kid on a skateboard. Its a rollar coaster with some big hills and some little hills. Dont sweat it and dont beat yourself up just get back on your horse and ride!! |

Some woman put it best on a call in show; she said: If Obama want to win the presidency he will have to earn it on his own merit" and then she added something about if they were concerned about getting enough votes to win the presidency they should have picked Hillary. I agree that he will have to earn it on his own merit. I dont think he would want it any other way. But i do think its very silly of her and others like her, to say he should have picked Hilary. Its so childish. Its like saying if you wont pick my friend to be on your team i dont want to be on your team either! I'm glad he didnt pick Hilary. Not because i dont like her, or dont think she would be an asset, but because Obama has to choose the person he feels the most comfortable with, who can will be able to work with and make decsions with for the next 4 or 8 years. And quite frankly, i dont know if anyone should have to live with Bill Clinton lookin over their shoulder!

this past weekend was like that for me j9gwen. Sat we had a friend's bbq, at 3, then at 5:30 we had an anniversary party to attend. then on sunday another anniversary party. Before each party i drank lots of water (i always travel with a bottle of it so i can fill up in the car), and drank lots when i got there. filled up on a veggies and some meat, stayed away from bread. sometimes i'l have a hamburger patty with some salad on the side to avoid the cals in the bun. and give yourself a treat. Its a holiday after all. like share a slice of cake instead of having a piece by yourself.. |

hey there...i'm a 42 D and i've found that size at Zellers ( if you have that store where you live). I've also found it in Plus Size stores. Those fancy places like Victoria Secret and La Senza seem to be only for "smaller" ladies. |

oooh, can i join u all?? we do a Labour Day neighbourhood bbq, about 3 years now. In the past i scarfed down whatever crossed my path cause i was mingling and chatting and everyone was eating. This year the leaner, sexier ME has to take care. I can't ignore the food cause the bbq-ing takes place on my driveway! I will however make sure i eat a healthy breakfast as usual and, since its at my house, i can access the healthy snacks. I will probably allow myself one burger for the day (as opposed to the 2 i would normally have!!) at lunch and perhaps a piece of chicken round dinner time. Lots of salad, lots of water....and back on track Tuesday morning!! See ya then, and good luck everybody!!!
