Foods Blenders for smoothies Oct 14 2008

I have a kitchen aid blender that I got, I think, for around $30-40. It does a great job with about 8oz of water and six ice cubes, fruit, and my mix. I never have a problem with it. Plus it's bright red! Wink

Foods calling all cottage cheese experts! Oct 13 2008

I eat the no fat version from Shaws. I actually didn't notice a taste difference when I switched from 1% to no fat. Here are a few of my favorite ways.

Mix 1/2 cup cottage cheese with peanut butter (if I am having it as a snack to satisify a craving, I mix in 1 tblspoon of sugar free jam.)

Mix 1/2 cup cottage cheese with diced low fat turkey, sliced cherry tomatoes and cooked broccoli. Sprinkle with pepper. It makes a really big bowl.

Well I'm back from my extended vacation, and after plateuing for awhile finally making some progress on the scale with a 3 lb loss this week!

I'm down 8 pounds now from the beginning of the challenge. Ack! At this point I'll be happy to lose 20-25 in time for christmas!

On the plus side, I have lost about 6 inches across my chest. (why does the chest always go first? I could really use the belly to go away!)

Weight Loss Low carb working wonders without counting calories....why? Oct 02 2008
14:25 (UTC)

I'm not doing low carb exactly, but definately higher protein than Carb. If I start my day off with carbs, I find I am hungry all day long. But if I start with a really high protein breakfast with veggies, I feel satisified all day long.

I too have lost 3 lbs quickly after a stall. I don't know if it's the protein, or if my body was just ready to begin losing weight again. I started a pretty heavy gym routine 2 months ago and I think my body was in shock, lol

I am trying to eat higher protein and fiber diet with alot of fruit and veggies. I don't freak out if I eat too many carbs, or if I want a roll at night with dinner, I have it.

Foods I have to admit I have a new love - Pumpkin Sep 27 2008

I make pumpkin chilli, which is pretty much your standard chilli recipe with a can of pumpkin mixed in. It thickens it up nicely and is a very good flavor.

Another thing is sugar free vanilla pudding. Put in some pumpkin and then pumpkin pie seasoning and it's great! Just like pumpkin pie without the crust!

I want to try P90x, but I think if I did it now, it might kill me.

My favorite is the Slim in 6 videos (available at beachbody.com) they are a pretty hard workout but doable for me.

Turbo Jam is pretty good too, though I can't finish it yet, but they are alot of fun!

I still really like Leslie Sansone's Power walks. Especially the 4 mile one. I love that one to pieces! And speaking of Richard Simmons, I have about 4 of his, my favorite being Dance Your Pants Off! (Though I am waiting for it to come out on DVD now, cuz we got rid of our VCR)

Cotage Cheese and Broccoli with Salt and Pepper.

I am down one more pound for the challenge, which I think is 5 total so far. I am down to 239, woo hoo! I broke into the 230s finally!

My accomplishment this week is that I have started jogging invervals in my walking. Who knew this body could do THAT?

We're flying off to Canada today so I'll be happy to maintain for the next two weeks, cross fingers!

Foods do YOU drink any of your calories? Aug 14 2008
23:12 (UTC)
16

I drink mostly water but do drink protein shakes some days. The days I drink them, I usually have 2-3 (about 100 calories each). Days I'm not hungry in the morning, I'll have one before running off to the gym and another one when I get back.

I don't do this everyday though. And I don't drink soda, diet or otherwise unless it's a special occasion. Speaking of!

Sometimes I'll have alcohol. hehe. I will usually have

1/2 cup sierra mist

mixed with 1/2 cup white wine

with just a drizzle of pineapple rum on top. Throw in a lime, lemon, orange thin slice and you have a pretty good drink! not sure about the exact calorie count of the rum, but i really like this drink when I'm craving a cocktail, so it's worth it! It hasn't affected my weight loss the following day as far as I can tell.

I uusally try to have it only once a month or so.

Weight Loss When did you start gaining weight? Aug 09 2008
00:05 (UTC)
14

I started gaining weight at 5, after an emotional incident as a kid. I have been battling it ever since. I maintained for awhile but it got worse after I got married.

I'm not the heaviest I've ever been right now. That was about 5 years ago, but I'm fed up with 'the fat' as I like to call it, and ready to battle it in a WWF type smackdown. Enough is enough already!

Weight Loss Why am I not getting the weight off? Aug 08 2008

Hi Strawberry!

I definately agree with upping your calories. When I exercise I try to get at least 1700-1800 calories, healthy of course. I try to eat more fruits, veggies, and fiber. For some reason fiber, for me, is that magical thing, I don't know why. I think if you are exhausted, it is probably because your body needs more fuel!

I started at 260lbs (now I'm at 240, score!) and exercise at first was really difficult. I couldn't do more than a mile on the treadmill (which took 20 minutes to begin with) without calf pain and tingling in my toes.

That was about 8 weeks ago. Now I am alternating between walking and jogging on the treadmill and the pain in my legs is gone. It was hard at first, but each time a little easier and I got through it. I never though this big body would even think about jogging for a one second spirt, let alone for a full min at a time.

I know everyone is different and you should definately listen to your body. But here is my Routine just so you know it IS POSSIBLE! Even for those of us who have over a 100 lbs to lose (that'd be me).

On my Cardio Days I:

Cycle for 20 minutes
Walk and Jog for 20 minutes
Swim for 20 Minutes

On my weight training days I use a combination of freeweights and machines with combo moves (modified pushups, then lateral raises, etc) Though everything could be done with band resistance, which I use at home. I also love that!

I do abs every day (except rest day)and start with the plank, which I hate.

Monday: Cardio plus abs
Tuesday: 5 min warm up, leg routine, abs, 20 min bike
Wed: Cardio plus abs
Thursday 5 min warm up, arm routine, abs, 20 min on treadmill
Friday: Cardio plus abs
Saturday: 5 min warm up, back/shoulder routine, abs, 20 min on bike
Sunday: Day Off

Good luck on your journey! if you need a buddy, feel free to email me anytime. Our weight goals are probably similar.

Weight Loss How big is your lunch??? Aug 06 2008
23:27 (UTC)

My Lunches usually consist of a Lean Cuisine or SmartOnes. Then close to dinner I might have some extra veggies with dip. So usually about 350-450 calories depending on the day. I eat between 1500-1700 a day depending on what my workout schedule looks like.

I have a bunch of Leslie's DVD workouts. My favorite is a power 4 mile workout. I know she has an online walking program, but I haven't joined because I dont want to pay for it, lol. So I just do her DVDs at home when I can't make it to the gym, or feel like shaking it up.

Hi Betsy,

I just checked out your stats. You're doing great! How wonderful for you! How long has it taken you to get where you are now? I've been doing it since Mid June and am happy with my progress so far but am dreading any plateaus or the results slowing down.

I know I am doing it the right way with eating between 1500-1700 calories a Day and I have a personal trainer. Talk about leaving someone's comfort zone!

My personal goal right now is to complete my own Rocky Montage! LaughingWhile it may sound silly, I found Rocky music and theme very inspiring, and I looove those movies.

Weight Loss Unreasonably high goal weights... why? Jul 30 2008
00:42 (UTC)
15

For myself, I set goals in Stages. I started at 260 lbs and looking at the final number was really daunting so I set my Goal weight to 220. When I reach that, I'll lower my goal to 200 and so on.

It IS really overwhelming to think that I was 260 lbs and wide enough for two people, really, and one day I'll be a tiny 120-130 lb person. Like, YIKES!! I'm sure Once I work myself down to say 180 lbs it'll see more reasonable.

Right now anything under 210 pounds would seem like a magical dream!

I am 5 feet 5 inches tall. I joined CC in early June at 260 pounds and now I am at 244. I would love to be in the 210s by Christmas!!

Thanks for starting the group. I think it will be an awesome Christmas Present for all!

Thanks everybody for your advice and well wishes!

The class went well. He put me up front where he could see me (uh oh, lol) but I did make it through the class and I did all of the climbs. Though sometimes I had to sit back down, but other times I was able to finish them.

I didn't put my resistance quite where he asked me to, but I didn't keep it on super easy the entire time either.

My legs are sure feeling it today! When I got off the bike, it was like the muscles went on strike! But today after my weight training session with the trainer I am going to hit the pool to relax them a bit.

The only thing is that my butt is really sore right now and hurts for a moment when I get out of a chair. But I think I read on another post that is normal in the beginning and eventually your body gets used to it.

Thanks, guys for your posts! I'm not feeling so nervous, just anxious! I'm hoping to have a great workout, even if it's not that fun while I'm doing it. Laughing The expresso Bike I usually do does have increased tension as you go up hills, so I will be used to that a little bit. I probably will stay seated through the jumps though, at least the first time. I don't want to burn myself out too fast!

Again, thanks for your comments!
