Why the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle? |
Mar 19 2009 19:56 (UTC) |
26 |
I am a vegetarian simply for the health benefits. Vegetarians have a longer life expectancy than meat-eaters.
Personally, I dont believe the human body was made to digest meat. Our bodies and intestines and such are like those of herbivores (eg. giraffes), not carnivores (eg. lions).
I just think meat in our bodies basically just....rot. And I dont like the idea of rotting substances (especially that of another -what used to be- living thing) in my body. :) |

Mar 18 2009 19:56 (UTC) |

That lunch doesnt sound that bad to me.
10 BABY potatos?
Whats an "entire thing" of sushi? Are you talking like eight pieces of a sushi roll?
That really doesnt sound that horrible.
Anyway, how about an egg white omelete with a slice or two of whole wheat bread and fruit or yogurt?
Or just yogurt, and a piece or two of fruit (depending on if you like a big breakfast)
Oatmeal is good, but try the non-packaged oatmeal. But oatmeal with a fruit or yogurt?
Really, it depends on your preference |

But alot of famous people live here and own islands here and such.
Johnny Depp, Shakira, The late Anna Nicole, Nicolas Cage....etc. I dont feel like doing research, but yea. |

What do you restrict from your diet? |
Mar 16 2009 15:58 (UTC) |
13 |
Hmmm....I dont really think Ive cut out anything like that...I mean not intentionally anyway. I just dont really crave "bad" foods eg. fast food, chocholate, cookies etc. And if I do, then I eat it but in moderation or with no mayo, no fries etc. (stuff like that).
I have cut out meat which means burgers and chicken sadnwiches are out. I do have the occassional craving for a burger and fries but I just opt for a fish sandiwch with no tartar sauce and no fries.
But If I want a chocolate bar, Ill eat it. Just raelly dont want it that often.
Oh I use to be a coke FREAK!.....but after the years, ordering a diet soda instead of regular is second nature. And I grew up eating things like I cant believe its not butter, fat free milk, low fat yogurts etc (my mother was always a dieter). So Cant miss what you never had rite? |

Original Post by lalabanana:
I really didn't want to have to step in but after the way you've started attacking members who tell you what you clearly don't want to hear, no matter the truth of their words, I feel like I have to.
I was waiting for this.
If you ask for critique on your menu and goals, why then shoot down people who are telling you, quite honestly, your intents are unhealthy or will send you down that route? Furthermore, while you are growing internally still at the later end of your teenage years you are most likely done growing in height. Thus, your weight would be underweight for your frame. And if you're having to diet to reach a BMI that low, it is very likely that that is not where your body will be happy.
Ok.
So often I see you speak of how you overeat - not necessarily binge, just overeat - despite best plans and intentions. Have you ever possibly considered that what you are aiming for is simply not where your body is meant to be?
If you want to improve your "skinny fat" physique then start doing muscle building workouts and eat at a maintainance level or even a slight caloric surplus to feed that. Where you are right now is fine for your body, in terms of weight. Lose, and you're descending into the risk area of period loss, of growth complications in not building proper bone density or organ capacity... is it really worth doing?
Guess not
Your menu is quite balanced - you just need more in it. "Tea" doesn't even fall into a snack category. Unless that tea is with milk and/or sugar, which I doubt.
Always is- I dont drink tea without cream and sometimes sugar
What's irking me the most is the way you are talking down to people who tell you what you don't want to hear. At the end of the day if you want to hurt yourself, fine, but don't advertise it to the world and then play the wounded puppy when you hear the repercussions of it.
Play nice.
Yep. My apologies.

Original Post by madamebones:
I'm a new poster, but I am not a new dieter. Your diet sounds fine.
I came from a place where I obsessed about calories and binging and all that crap. Also I was forced to work out at home by my mom, so I can understand your issues with exercise.
I hate to break it to you, but that might be where you are goingto find acceptance with your body.
Sure cutting down more on "bad foods" like french fries is going to help with your skin and your overall health because french fries have hydrogenated oil, which is really horrible. You might even cut down those last four pounds.
But your body will always be supple and squishy unless you do some sort of toning exercise. Weight-lifting and Yoga (out of the two you might like yoga more...it feels less like working out) are the best. There are other kinds of work outs to tone up.
But don't listen to anybody else, listen to your self. You know what your body needs without anyone telling you. Maybe you just needed someone to agree with you and back you up on what you were already sure of. You said in a previous post that you know that you should be doing more to exercise...
I had the worst acne ever...it was horrible. I did a juice-fast cleanse for health and my acne has been gone ever since. Don't do a fast/cleanse like that without consulting your doctor, but the moral of the story is that unhealthy food (i grew up a junk-food vegitarian, I should know) will make you unhealthy inside and out. So ditch the subway and the fast food fries and make time to make a lunch for yourself...a good organic veggie sandwhich with veganaise and organic kettle chips. And make fries at home out of organic potatoes, tossed in oil and baked in the oven, not deep fried in mild plastic passed off as "food".
I'm sure nobody around you thinks that you're flabby like you do, but you are not trying to impress or satisfy anyone but yourself, so satisfy yourself...use your body for its potential and respect what you put into it.
I hope I don't come on too strong. Your post really spoke to me that I should reply to it.
Thanks for this.
I agree with you that I should probably tone up rather than aim to lose those last few lbs. Yoga actually does sound good but how do i do it? A work out dvd? Because the Namaste yoga in my country is quite expensive and isnt something I can afford atm.
And yes, the point of this post was really just to be assured that Im doing the rigth thing. But apparently some think Im "trying to starve myself and yo-yo diet etc"
My acne I definitley think has to do with the foods I eat. I USE to eat ALOT of fried foods and oily foods. But since cutting down, I havent seen THAT much of a difference in my skin (just a little). Maybe I should re-evealuate the oils that are still in the food I eat. Or maybe Ill consult a doctor on a juice fast. Im thinking about going to the dermatologist. So Ill get some advice on what to do.
But again thanks for your reply. Its really comforting that someone understands. |

Ok. ok people. I am not trying to be underweight. Calm down.
18.5 is not underweight. Especially for a teen. Where does it say that 18. 5 is underweight?!!?!
But fair enough. Would it be better if I said ok Im trying to get to 123?!?....better? Thats smack dab in between my goal weight range of 121-125.
Geez.
And I am NOT in anyway trying to promote any type of eating disorder or disordered behavior!!
BMI Calculator
Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 19, you are currently classed as underweight.
and if you are trying to get to 121 your:
BMI Calculator
Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 18.4, you are currently classed as underweight.
That is where it says it. If you dont' believe me go to Tools on this website and then to the BMI Calculator and enter your stats. You are underweight.
Also, If you never said you are fat what is skinny fat? Isn't that saying you are fat? I just wanted some clarity. I am not jumping on you.
P.S. Since you ARE a teen you should be eating more because you are still growing and you are active.
Fair enough |
