| Foods | Any ideas (meal plans) for healthy foods I don't have to cook | Nov 01 2008 21:41 (UTC) |

There are tons of great healthy things you can make without cooking! If you shop at a natural food store like Whole Foods you can peruse their frozen section for healthier options. You can also eat fruit salad, trail mixes, protein bars and ice cream (buy healthy kinds). Also, baby carrots! |

Good find. I actually noticed that some companies subtract off fiber and some don't so you always have to check! |

| Foods | Soft food ideas? | Sep 21 2008 21:13 (UTC) |

Hey, I don't have fantastic ideas although I do want to tell you I had the same problem a couple of months ago after a minor surgery on my lip. I lived on gatorade, ice cream, shakes, soup, mashed potatoes, apple sauce, pudding, yogurt, and eventually these really tiny little soft noodles called orzo. It all got boring really quickly (which you are experiencing). Just don't count calories, and make sure you are getting enough food and liquids for a speedy recovery. |

Oh I have so many! Frozen fruit, yogurt, string cheese, various bars, Goji berries. I actually work on a blog dedicated to a similar topic. You can grab the URL from my profile. I hope you find some good snacks! |

| Foods | Lowfat or Nonfat yogurt? | Jul 21 2008 16:58 (UTC) |

Try to eat the lowest calorie yogurt with the least amount of artificial stuff. In terms of probiotics, you can tell by looking at the label. It is independent of the amount of fat in the yogurt itself. |

| Foods | Potein Bars (tigers milk/Luna bars) | Jul 21 2008 16:54 (UTC) |
|
Tigers Milks is not good for you. I believe it contains either high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils, both which your body does not appreciate. Luna bars are better, and do not contain the worst of ingredients. One a day is okay, but if you can substitute other foods for them every once in a while, that would be ideal. If you are interested, you can find a link to a blog I work on in my profile, where we talk about some of our favorite bars (the ones without the bad ingredients). Hope that helps! |

| Foods | soy milk | Jul 21 2008 16:53 (UTC) |

I personally love soy milk and I do not drink regular milk at all. I also drink almond milk (unsweeted almond milk by almond breeze is only 40 calories a cup). I also love soy ice cream! My favorite soy milk is silk vanilla, and my favorite soy ice cream is Whole Soy and Co. My profile contains a link to a blog I work on where there are posts about both (which you might enjoy reading). |

| Foods | wholewheat/wholemeal vs white.. will the brown stuff help me lose weight quicker? | Jul 14 2008 02:27 (UTC) |
1 |
Yeah, a calorie is a calorie, however the whole wheat versions of foods might be filling you up more. Also, they are better for your overall health.
I personally believe (and this is just me talking) that my body loses more weight when I eat more natural, less processed foods, like whole wheat instead of "enriched flour" (which is not enriched by any means). I also find it is easier to keep weight off when I'm eating these foods that my body can process easier. So, if you like them, and it is working, you should probably keep it up! :)

| Vegetarian | what type of vegatarian foods should i eat? | Jul 09 2008 03:20 (UTC) |
|
There are tons of great vegan options available at stores like Whole Foods. A lot of non-vegan foods come in tasty vegan versions. I suggest you go there and look around and what they offer. Make sure you look in the refrigerated aisle as well for vegan butter, vegan sour cream, hummmus, salsa, veggie burgers, etc. :) |

How about almond milk (unsweetened almond breeze)? Good ingredients, low in calories, and nuts are very natural. :) |

| Foods | bagels | Jul 05 2008 20:59 (UTC) |

Bagels freeze really well. In fact, a lot of bagel stores will give you freezer bags (they are just the right shape for 6 bagels layered on top of each other). I love western altnerative bagels. They are great. I buy them at Molly Stones. |

It is really really hard, in fact, not knowing calories usually messes up my dieting. The best thing to do is to do your best to find an equivalent online. I sometimes look on calorie king to get an idea. |

Oh there are so many! My profile lists a link to a place where you can read about more (it is a blog), but some off the top of my head are: fage yogurt (with honey!), pistachios, almond milk, yotta bars, chocolate wedges from trader joes, frozen crepes, soy ice cream, kashi cereal, carrots, frozen fruits like cherries or grapes... |

| Foods | Is it bad that I snack so much cereal? Can I replace potatoe, rice etc with cereal? | Jul 03 2008 03:47 (UTC) |
7 |
It isn't bad per say, as long as you aren't eating 100's of calories of cereal everyday. Why don't you try adding some variety to your snacks, though (if you can make it work)? There are so many other options: fruits, veggies, nuts, string cheese, yogurt... all foods that your body will get nutrients from that it isn't getting from all the cereal.

You could try cereal or a fruit smoothie or even just a glass of milk or soy milk. I'd steer clear of soda in the morning. Try to drink orange juice or water. |

| Weight Loss | going crazy! | Jul 02 2008 02:37 (UTC) |
1 |
Whatever you do, don't get deterred. Usually if your weight goes up a bunch all at once, it will go down a bunch all at once shortly after (if you don't overeat). It could be a number of things going on: (1) you lost weight too fast and so your body went into starvation, (2) you are retaining water (sometimes my weight goes up around my time of the month), (3) you gained some muscle. Eat smart for a week and my guess is that you'll be back down to where you were. I know it is frustrating. We've all been there (trust me). :)

| Fitness | is 30 minutes enough? | Jul 02 2008 02:34 (UTC) |
3 |
I've struggled with the same. There was actually a point where I found that if I exercised a bit less, I lost more weight, since I was less hungry.
My advice: (1) keep up what you are doing, (2) carefully count your calories to make sure you aren't eating more than you think you are (this is usually the case when people exercising aren't losing weight), and (3) drink plenty of water (sometimes exercising causes dehydration which may lead to the retention of water).
Hope that helps! |

| Weight Loss | Night time Eating... | Jul 02 2008 02:32 (UTC) |
2 |
It would be bad if you are starving yourself at any point during the day in order to save calories. A lot of "stuff" I've read online advocates eating small meals very often so you don't go into starvation mode. You might want to try eating many petite meals during the day in an effort to save calories for night. Also, you might want to try to figure out a way to curve your hunger at night, like with tea, drinking water, or moving yourself away from the kitchen (works for me). Hope that helps! |

Hey, I have a Yummy Healthy Food Blog dedicated to this very topic (see my profile if you are interested). There are tons of foods out there that aren't full of artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, high fructose corn syrup, or hydrogenated oils that are not only healthy but are super yummy too! There are tons of options including: fage yogurt, kashi and other whole grain cereals, almond and soy milk, various low fat cheeses, whole wheat pasta, and sorbets and even chocolate.
Hope that helps! |

| Weight Loss | Are all calories created equal? | Jun 26 2008 03:01 (UTC) |
9 |
No, all calories are not created equal. Some foods are much better for you and your health, than others. For instance, a piece of fruit provides nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and other benefits that you cannot get from a processed 100 calorie snack. Also, no one knows what all the sugar substitutes really do to people (they haven't been on the market long enough to draw good conclusions). The best thing to do is to eat healthy most of the time, and let yourself splurge every now and then. You'll feel better inside and out. Hope that helps, Elizabeth |

| Foods | Walden Farms (0 calorie everything) | Jun 26 2008 02:58 (UTC) |
|
Sounds kind of nasty. I say, steer clear. It is probably full of sugar alcohols which will have a major laxative effect on your body. While eating 0 calorie foods is attractive as a dieter, it isn't always what is good for your body. Try to eat more healthy sweets, like a small piece of chocolate, or frozen fruit. You will feel better (short and long term). Elizabeth |

| Foods | My mouth is hungry but my stomach isn't. | Jun 24 2008 20:41 (UTC) |
|
First of all, if your mouth is hungry but your stomach isn't, you might want to try drinking some water or finding a distraction so that you can save those precious calories to eat later. But, if you do decide to snack, I do have some ideas for you (on the healthier side -- no high fructose corn syrup, no hydrogenated oils, etc.): string cheese, fage yogurt, clif z-bars, lara bars, frozen fruit, carrot sticks, a small piece of chocolate, hot-chocolate, etc. Check out my blog (look in my profile) that has additional suggestions (and gets updated regularly with more ideas). I hope that is helpful! Elizabeth |

| Foods | What are some yummy snacks?? | Jun 24 2008 20:37 (UTC) |

Oh, there are so many! I personally like to eat on the healthier side when I snack (I find I lose weight faster and am more likely to keep it off -- it also facilitates a healthy lifestyle). I eat fage yogurt, clif z bars, kashi cereal (in a small ziplock bag), frozen fruit, carrot sticks, lara bars, yotta bars, string cheese, etc. I actually maintain a blog on this very topic (see my profile). Enjoy! Elizabeth |

There are tons of healthy diet options out there -- just cause you are on a diet doesn't mean you need to eat foods full of hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, or artificial ingredients. There are all sorts of yogurts, whole grain pastas, smoothies, low-fat proteins, healthy snack bars, dark chocolates, nuts, etc. I actually work on a blog dedicated to this very topic (see profile if you are interested). Good luck!

| Foods | Whole Grains | Jun 24 2008 05:25 (UTC) |
|
If you like the taste of whole grain food, it is always a better choice than the more starchy alternatives. Whole grain food has more fiber and nutrients in it, that are much better for your body (your body can actually do something with them) than all the refined food on the market. Stick with whole grains! Elizabeth |
