Weight Loss WEIGH IN FOR 5'6"ish 168ish GROUP. New Members WELCOME! Oct 03 2008

Hi everyone!! Can I re-join AGAIN?

So I was on here in June, lost about 6lbs but went off track, came back and lost a few more lbs but went off track somewhere around August when I was supposed to be starting that couch-to-5k thing...i got the flu, injured my leg, and guess I just got tied up in life and my kids (5yr old and 3 yr old). But now I'm seriously getting miserable and fed up with myself. Not to mention that I just bought a bunch of new clothes and already they're feeling tight!!

So here's my stats as of today:
age 23, 5'6'', 169lbs

I sure hope I can do this! I have a friend helping to keep me motivated, and I will be walking/jogging as well as using a Cardio Twister starting Monday.

My mother-in-law bought the book to read, i read parts of it but found it WAY TOO BORING to bother reading from front to back cover...however he does seem to think coral calcium and apple cider vinegar are the cure to everything! LOL it just cracks me up..

Well I'm SAD to say that I've been horribly sick and I've lost about 4-5lbs from not eating, throwing up, and having the flu since Saturday! So no running for me today Frown I'm hoping to start Wednesday and maybe if I only do 2 days I can catch up next week. I have just been too weak and my body is aching. Glad to hear everyone else is doing so good though!!

I've done this! I was actually checking my kids' vitamins the other day, and there's like 15 calories in 2 vitamins!! (They're gummy ones though)

Honestly...who cares what the scale says! If you LOOK the same as those other girls why are you worried? I don't even bother weighing myself anymore, as long as I get to where I feel comfortable with myself and know I'm at a healthy weight for my height then who cares!?

I agree with this one. If I didn't have kids I probably wouldn't have any junk or unhealthy stuff in my house to begin with. I'm PMSing as of yesterday! Man was I grouchy, I had about 2600 calories, an estimate since I didn't chose to count at all. And chocolate -- hmph! I ate 2 pieces and threw the rest in the garbage so it wouldn't be there anymore. It's sad how TTOM takes over our lives temporarily. I never even realized it until I started counting!!

I've squished a pear to an unrecognizable state in a backpack full of text books in university. I thought someone had thrown up in it...

I've also saved calories by dropping a spoonful of yogurt into my keyboard. (previous post i made...)

I've also had lipgloss melt to the point of being pure liquid and had the entire tube drop all over my lap while I was driving... although that isn't so calorie related as just gross.

I'm apparently very good at making a mess.

LOL!! You sound like a klutz just like me! I actually saved a few calories myself yesterday....I was having a Coke for the first time in a long time! It was so delicious too. Funny how you drink something so often that you get used to the taste, but when you don't have it for awhile it tastes MUCH better when you taste it again! And I'm rambling lol.
Anyways I tripped down and spilled half of the soda so I definitely saved some calories. :)

Sounds like we have a great plan so far lulu!

So here's a little info about me:

I'm 23 years old, 5'6, I float around 167lbs on my best days, and I have a son and a daughter (4 1/2 and 2 1/2) and I'm also a SAHM. I started CC around June 24th, and I was at first obssessed with it and excited about it, did pretty good too because I lost 3lbs each week for the first two weeks. Now I'm pretty much stuck in a rut, so I'm hoping starting this running program will jump-start my weight loss. My calorie allowance is 1300 but sometimes I still feel hungry and tend to over-eat. Hopefully more exercise will help balance this out, and give me a bigger calorie allowance.
Being at SAHM doesn't give us much time for ourself, but we can do this!!
I want to try to remember everyone's name (if you prefer to be called by your user name that's fine too) but it might take awhile to remember who's who. My name is Jordana, nice to meet you all, and I'm excited to get started!!!! Smile

It is supposed to be a 9week program, but it also states that if you find one week particularly hard you can do it twice. Maybe we should all agree to do Week 1 for 2 weeks since we're all starting to run for the first time...i think..?

If any of you have an ipod I would recommend going to iTunes and getting the free podcasts. I will be using them, and I'll also be doing my running out of the house because I don't have a treadmill. Besides, I like to get out the house  away from my 2 kids for awhile...I love them but Mom needs a break sometimes! Wink

***EDITED TO ADD INFO***

tankerraid - i got the podcasts from iTunes, they were free. They are for your iPod or mp3 player, I'm not sure what they're all about (I haven't listened to them yet lol).

Robert Ullrey's C25K Podcasts
Robert has recorded nine podcasts to accompany you on your runs. Some great music, plus Robert will tell you when to run, and when to walk...a must have. http://www.ullreys.com/robert/Podcasts/page4/ files/category-7.html

So we have to figure out what day we're going to start. Obviously I haven't started yet but I've been extremely busy...my bf leaves tomorrow for a month, he goes fishing for a living, on a boat with 7 men so I had to go shopping for their trip, and do all kinds of stuff to get him ready I just haven't had energy or time. But this is the perfect opportunity to start now! Did anyone else start reading on the program? Apparently you only go 3 days out of the week, with a rest day in between. So are we all going to start on the same day, and weigh-in on the same day? We need to figure it all out and get started, I'm ready!!

lulu I agree we should post our starting weights and stats before we decide to get started, that way seeing other people lose pounds or inches, will be more motivation to those who don't lose as much (like me lol).

hey lulu, I know what you mean about thinking you're crazy, too tired, too busy with the kids, don't have energy etc....I have the same mentality but it doesn't stop me from wanting to do this! Which program are you looking at starting? I was thinking about the Couch-to-5k, in fact I already downloaded the podcasts for each week onto my ipod, but I just haven't gotten around to doing it. Maybe because I just don't have the motivation needed...none of my friends here are interested in exercising or learning to run with me. Actually my mom was just diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 and she seriously has to lose weight and exercise, so I'm been trying to get her to do this with me.
So I am definitely down for this, let's do it!!!! Laughing

Hey everyone, guess I missed the weigh-in day once again. Was supposed to be getting back on track as of last week, and STILL continuing to eat like crap! WHY OH WHY can't I control myself? I can't get out of my 167/168 rut, so if anyone has any ideas of how to keep losing every week help me please!!!

When I started CC in June, I lost 3lbs the first week, then 3lbs the second week, and now nothing. What am I doing wrong, I can't figure it out...

Ok I don't get how women bigger than me wear a bikini and don't seem one bit self-conscious about it. So here are a few more reasons I've thought of, it being summer and swimsuit season, that may seem stupid but are there nonetheless!

OMG - I can't believe what some people wear!  I went to 6 Flags a couple of weeks ago and although I didn't even put my suit on we did spend a lot of time in the water park.  I was amazed at what I saw.  My husband (who is also 100+ pounds overweight) even commented on the things some people wear.  I was floored by some of the bathing suits these women had on.  It certainly made me feel less self-conscious, but there were women in bikinis that had no right to be.  I saw a women at the Y the other day in a bikini, she had to be a size 20+, granted she was evenly purportioned so she didn't look that bad but still I didn't know they made bikins that big.

I don't mean to be judgemental, I am happy for them that they are confident enough to wear what they want without worrying about what other people think.  I guess it all boils down to self image, some people can be rail thin and think they are fat and vice versa.

YES!! I thought it was just me!! I don't think that's being judemental OR mean....it just amazes me that a 300lb woman can wear a BIKINI and she's not tugging on the back, or adjusting her top, or covering herself with one arm, or doing any of the things that I would do while wearing a swim suit at my weight(160s)!!!
How do they get so confident?? I wish I could absorb some of that into me. Looking at them doesn't make me feel any less self-conscious.
It just goes to show how screwed up our body images really are!

1. To wear a bikini confidently, and actually FEEL sexy...doesn't matter if others think I'm totally hot or not, as long as I feel like I am!! (I don't right now)

2. To wear a 2piece and not have those little rolls of fat between my ''private area and my thigh...you know what I'm talking about...the bottoms pinches that fat there and creates a mini-roll lol

3. To lay out and get some sun and not worry what people think if they walk by and see me there!!

My problem with losing weight is that I am a very picky eater, and I do not like fruits or vegetables, so it is even harder to lose weight, therefore I have discovered Gerber Baby Food!!!! I know it sounds stupid... but hey it worked for me... Fruits are great for diets, and baby food is easier for me to eat...

Hey that is a great idea!! And baby foods are all natural ! I'm going to have to try that one, I too am a picky eater, I don't eat beans, peas, and there are lots of different veggies that I can't stand (thank goodness for lettuce!) so I try to compensate with more fruits.

I'M BACK!!
After almost 2 weeks of not caring what I eat, and not coming on here to log my calories, AND not exercising one bit, I'm back. I'm going to try so hard to stay on track this time, because I am going on a little vacation Aug. 21st and I can't be fat and jiggly ;(   Yes, I know that's only 4 weeks away but if I could lose almost 10lbs I would be satisfied.
I have lost 4lbs the last 5days without doing a thing!! How weird is that? Probably water weight though....

I was here before, but since i haven't been to weigh-in for 2 weeks Frown here we go again:

I'm 5'6'', currently 164-168ish, 23yo, I don't exercise lol

OMG! I watched this last night too, well part of it. I used to watch it all the time but I just got tired of them moaning because they ''cant stop eating''. I know they can't help it, but gross!
When they sit there and have 20 scrambled eggs, 30 slices of bacon, a loaf of bread toasted, a box of grits, and 12 pancakes...its just crazy!!
O_O   How in the world do they eat all of that!?!?

I broke up with the man I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I know I know, he's just a guy and it's just a break up, get over it. But my whole world has been turned upside down and this has been painstaking for me. I was losing about .5-1lbs per week which I was thrilled with and proud of because I was doing it the right way. But this break up has robbed me of an appetite (i LOVE LOVE LOVE food, so that in itself is heartbreaking for me). I've lost 4lbs in the past 3 days, I can't eat ANYTHING..it literally makes me sick. I know my body is hating me for it, but the constant nausea won't go away. Any suggestions would be great. This has been a very difficult few days for me.

awwww! I know you probably hate to hear this but I know exactly how you feel! My current boyfriend and I broke up for 2weeks a few years ago, I came home from work and found the closet empty. Long story short: I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, and I had to drag myself to work. In those 2 weeks I bet I lost 15lbs easy. Just the hurt and pain made me nauseous, but I forced myself to eat Saltine crackers, and drink tea just to have something in my tummy. Thankfully the break-up didn't last long otherwise I might have developed a serious problem.
Don't let anyone make you feel like ''he's just a guy''. You obviously loved him, and it's okay to grieve your ''loss''. But please don't make yourself sick over it! When and if he sees you somewhere, you want to look good and healthy! So if you have to force yourself to eat bites here and there, it's better than starving completely. Just remember that time will heal your hurt. Everything happens for a reason.

Anyway, I'm gettin back on track since it's Monday morning, and hope Friday's weigh-in has some better results for me!

hstdenis -- I decided to do some research, mostly to try to understand her decision.  After seeing and reading about the treatment of the animals used in the food industry  I decided right on the spot that I couldn't support it.  Because it was a moral decision for me, I've found it to be the easiest thing I've ever done.  It's funny though, I remember finding out a girl I knew was vegan and thinking "I could never give up meat and dairy".

I feel the same way about it. Yesterday after reading these posts I started googling different things to see what its all about. The way that they treat animals is DISGUSTING. I almost felt like puking. It's sad that we as humans go through our lives without knowing about those things, or just being ignorant to it because we choose NOT to see it. I guess I was pretty ignorant about it all too. But I'm going to try my best to do it!
I was actually thinking about still eating seafood because here in the Bahamas it's not raised on farms or given chemicals. If you want fish or lobster for dinner, you go out in the open ocean and catch it yourself! But then i read something on www.goveg.com about fish still having feelings and I felt even worse!
I guess it's easy to become a vegetarian when you choose to do it for moral reasons...that's my motivation anyway! I told my sister this as well: I can't believe 1 person not eating meat saves 100 animals a year!!! I don't want to be a carnivore anymore.

Any tips or suggestions? How do you know what not to eat ?

158 lbs. But most people I know of that people that are my height, and about my size, most often they're in the 140's, sometimes late 130's. When I was in my late 130's, my thighs didn't touch... Last time I checked, my lean body mass was 112 pounds... so I can't physically be in the 110-120 range, like most people can be when they get to a slim weight, so I I thoought maybe I had 10-20 extra lean mass on me, and thus weight 10-20 more when I look 10-20 less. But maybe that's just because everyone lies about their weight and I don't have any accurate idea of what weight I want to be to look the way I want to look. Hmmm.

I am 5'6'' and was 170s recently. I was always in 130s - 140s and was still small,, before kids of course....I'm very very bad at guessing weight though, I think most people are.

Lol ok this doesn't have to be answered by you, but by anybody reading this: how exactly do you know where to measure? I've never done this before in my LIFE so I don't know how to do it, but i too feel inspired to do it! I think it's a great way to keep motivated as well....
I'm sure there is a website that can physically show how to measure your body, so if anyone knows right off the top of their head let me know please!!

Ok, so I've been talking to my friend who lives in Florida about me moving there, because I actually wanted to do this last year, as well as the year before but never had the funds to make the move. Am I being unrealistic in thinking that I can do this - as a single mother with no college education, just up and move to another country with 2 kids who will need to attend school and daycare, as well as me finding a job and a car AND a place to live(rent)?
How will I afford it?
What happens if I can't pay my rent or electricity one month?
Will I just end up moving back?
Will my kids hate me for uprooting their lives, only to have to come back here?
I can't stop thinking about all of this, and I know this is something I want to do but just don't see how its possible! How do single mothers in the United States make it?? Does anyone have any further advice to give me? I'm beyond ideas, I mean it's extremely expensive living here as well, but at least I'm living with someone. I've never really been on my own before....
