Congrats on your loss and may you reach your goal.

I'm down from a 14 to an 8 sometimes 6.  I didn't buy anything new until I was 5 pounds away from my goal. I saved my money in the mean time in anticipation of a little reward splurge. It also gave me time to define my style and decide if I wanted to invest in something expensive.

All great ideas previously listed but here's my input... Your friends are smaller but what about their friends, siblings, Moms? Maybe you can trade off with some wishful Moms who need a little update and are holding on to some pieces that have been resurrected in the current style trends. Also, Don't underestimate Walmart for basics. The clearance racks are sometimes surprising. They have unbelievably great fitting jeans by Faded Glory that IMO fit better than the $200 designer brands and are under 18 bucks. Good luck on your journey.

Just walking helped me to lose 38.5 pounds... Don't underestimate it's effectiveness. Please listen to your Dr.'s , brain surgery is no joke. You may want to consider focusing on simple things during your walks like the clouds, trees, birds... it really is a wonderful world. Be patient, good luck.

I don't mind the rain except if it's cold. I just wear the proper gear.

I'm partial to The Firm DVDs. I've found several at T.J.Maxx and Ross for under $5., you only need hand weights for the older DVDs but even that is not mandatory. Most importantly... if your committed to your goal, don't let a little rain,( or pour), stop you.

My dear sisters of the shrinking boobs...

Please get measured for your correct bra size. A well fit under garment will make you look amazing no matter what size you are. Nordstrom and Victoria's Secret are just a couple of places that will fit you for free.

Congrats on all your weight loss and your choice for better health!

Hi again,

I don't know how you feel about adding a weighted vest to your work out , but I was informed today that my use of it is probably what has helped my back and upper body to build muscle. I walked hills with it while using 3 pound weights in each hand. I started with 10lbs. and worked my way up to 20. I've lost 9 inches off my waist line and 36 pounds since June 08.

Again I hope this helps. Congrats and good luck.

I've been using a neoprene waist wrap and it's doing amazing things for me. It makes you sweat more which is a bit disgusting but I  highly recommend it. I wear it all day about 3 days a week and every time I workout. I found the best ones are gold's gym brand at Walmart for about ten bucks.

Congrats on your weight loss. That's amazing! good luck.

Weight Loss Has anyone tried hypnosis ? Oct 27 2008

Hi,

I can't swear that my results is ONLY due to this experience but I think that it was at least a part of it.

I watched a program on discovery health called " I can make you thin". I forget the guys name, Paul something, Any way he was billed as a hypnotist to the stars. I did what he said  and it killed my nonstop chocolate desire and consumption immediately. Also, he encouraged walking as exercise and did a hypnosis exercise to develop walking more. I followed this also and I started walking like never before. I would even walk in the rain, drizzle or down pour it didn't matter. I was recovering from an ankle injury and dealing with other painful health issues so I couldn't walk far but I started. I worked up to walking 1-1.5 hours per session and I added weights as I increased my distance. Regretfully, I chose to stop my walks last week because I was informed that there is a BEAR in the development. So I have been doing DVD's and a mini trampoline in the house. I have stayed motivated and have lost 32 pounds... That's how much my 3 year old weighs... I have erased a small child worth of fat from my body in the last 5 months, Oi Yoi Yoi!!!

My feeling is that for me the hypnosis was free over the TV so I had nothing to lose. I am very leery of the cost to success ratio re: weight loss products and I don't believe in diets. That being said I believe that hypnosis may be effective but be mindful of the cost and promises... CC is an amazing tool and anyone looking to succeed on this journey needs to be wise regarding their choices and not just rely on some method out side yourself for results.

Good luck with your journey, be wise,be safe.

Or a simple fruit salad. my kids love it.

Just toss together cubed melons like cantalope or honey dew. Or you can use a melon baller.

mix in  seedless grapes, canned or fresh pineapple, strawberrys or blueberrys if you can find good ones. Thats it.

I am also planning for a 3 year old party...But not 14 kids, :)  Good luck!

Weight Loss Calling all those who have lost weight. Oct 02 2008

Hi ... Part of my former wardrobe  I've given to a pregnant friend. Although they're not maternity they are appropriate and very stylish. I haven't waisted money by throwing them away, and she doesn't have to spend money on clothes she will only wear for a few months.

I also have sent other larger pants to a friend who when we met, we were the same size( much smaller). We both then gained weight and as it turns out we were the same larger size. She now has all my very cute jeans etc., and is inspired by my progress to also lose weight. Then she will send them off to someone her size who wants to lose weight. We call it the sisterhood of the traveling pants.

As for new items, I am sceptical to purchase until I hit my goal weight. I do have items that haven't seen the light of day for several years. I feel amazing getting back into them. I hope to purchase a few quality pieces. I'm really trying to pinpoint my true style so that i can reflect the best most confident me.

Motivation Working and Exercise?? NEED HELP!!!! Oct 01 2008
03:07 (UTC)

meagang, First of all ... What an amazing accomplishment. You said you lost 80pounds. DARLIN, THAT'S INCREDIBLE! I'm inspired!

I do not work, but I sometimes am up till 2am just trying to work around the house while everyone else is sleep. However I do have 2 kids the same age as yours. I use a double stroller during the day to walk. And although my oldest wants to get out and walk with me, I ask her to stay in her seat so mama can exercise. Most days she 's pretty good about it. When she's relentless, I let her get out for a portion and then put her back in. I don't know if you have a husband or some one to help you out in the evenings, but maybe you can have 30 to 60 minutes before you leave for work to walk or get a tape in.

I too take naps in the afternoon when they do. I don't feel guilty about this anymore. It's O.K. to rest when you need it :)...

You are challenged in starting a new gig, you have to give yourself time to adjust AND working nights is very difficult.

Keeping your eating in check is an accomplishment in itself. Try to feel good about that. You may not be able to work out as much right now, but you are doing some workouts. You will adjust. Simply do what you can and push to do a little more after you adjust a bit.

Be patient with yourself...You want a healthy life/ body. You will NOT give it all up. Your energy will pick up, You will figure it out.

The best to you, again ,I'm inspired that you have lost 80 pounds. That's FANTASTIC!!!

Congrats on your weight loss!!!

Here's an idea... how about you gather up all your" old no fitting wardrobe that is way to loose" and get them out of the house? That is ... no looking back.

I packed all mine up and shipped them to a girlfriend who is my former size & like me, is a bit of a fashionista. I had some pretty cute items in there too. Any way... we are calling it the sisterhood of the traveling pants. So when she starts to lose weight, she will ship them off to the next person to inspire them to get moving and get the weight off, while looking really cute of course.

Just a thought. Again GREAT JOB on your accomplishment. Do you realize how many people just talk about that but do nothing about it? Your amazing!!!

You may want to look into " The Firm". they use hand weights and include squats and lunges in the program. They have many DVD's available, and several pieces of "firm" equipment.

I am also a "fitness loner" but I like the intensity of this work out.

Congrats on pulling it back together after child birth!

I hope this helps.

Fitness Walking with wrist weights Sep 17 2008
21:51 (UTC)

I have never read where this is recommended. However, I have used hand weights in the past on the treadmill. I currently use them while walking hills. I use them because they tone my arms. I am VERY careful regarding my form... the basics, shoulders down and back, stand up straight,do not rock side to side .You do have to walk slower but faster doesn't neccasarily mean better. I wear a neoprene wrist brace to protect a gaglian cyst( this developed before I started with the weights).I started with very light weights , about 1.5 lbs.each, and increased as I felt comfortable.I am up to 3 pounds each now and I don't think I will add any more. My weights are sand in neoprene and look like no finger gloves, they wrap around my palms and the back of my hand. They secure around the hand and wrist.

Once I felt comfortable simply walking with my hands in a natural position I started to pump the weights, following the natural rythym you use when walking , flexing as I raise my hands to about waist level bending at the elbow. This should be a natural fluid motion. I do this when I'm on level ground or a slight incline.

Uphill walking , I keep my elbows bent and follow the form recomended on this sight.

Downhill I extend my elbows back, do NOT strain, and pump my arms backward.

In all I keep my elbows close to my body.I find that this works all the muscles in my arms and shoulders. I walk 5 days a week for an hour each time and I use the hand weights 3 times a week with a weighted vest.

I  have worked up to using a weighted vest...I started with a back pack at 10 pounds. I wrapped hand weights in a towel and strapped it on snug. The danger with this is that the weight is not evenly distributed on your body and can cause strain or injury. Belts and vest are reccommended for that reason. Leg and thigh weights were never reccommended in my research but please do your own.

I find the vest is so much more comfortable and I add 2 pounds each month. Of course you will have to figure out what works for you.

On cc the more weight I add the more calories I burn.

I hope this helps but above ALL else please be VERY careful if you decide to try weights with your walking...start slow and small and stay safe.

Nutz over chocolate and S'mores are my favorite. I have tried caramel nut brownie, peanut butter cookie and lemon zest but they are too rich for my tastebuds. I buy them at Target. They carry the 6 per box. usually they are about $1 each but you save a little on the 6 box.Target also has boxes of mini's that are about 80 calories each vs. 180 in the bigger bars. Walmart also carries them 5 per box at about $4.89.

Weight Loss Do you eat enough? Sep 08 2008

Yes! I have some days where I have eaten about 800 after all meals. I try to log right after every meal so I can gage my intake better. Granted I have also seen some 1700 cal days to my surprise.Usually these days happen when I'm snacky around THAT time of the month. When my calories are low and I know I need to eat more, even though I'm not hungry, I usually eat a luna bar(180cal.) and just monitor myself closely the next day to keep my intake at a healthy & consistent level.I don't want to go into starvation mode.I am zigzagging , so I work it all out, and so far it's successful. 22.5 lbs. down and 16 to go.

Make sure your measuring your portions properly so that your logging is accurate. Good luck !

Weight Loss Calorie Shifting Sep 01 2008

You eat a different amount of calories each day. www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator. htmwill calculate a guideline for you. For example, You may eat 1700 on days that you have more activity and 1200 0r 1400 on days with less activity. However the advice is that you want to keep it sporadic to keep your body guessing,(and losing).I also find that taking a break may give you a little kick start. For example, I gained one pound the week I was leaving for vacation( YES it created a little anxiety) however, I decided to break from logging each day. I did not go super crazy eating... I did enjoy myself. When I returned home I got back on my program and the next weeks weigh in , I was down 3.5 pounds. I wish I could do that a few more times . :) Sooo good luck!

So sorry to hear that. You may want to be very careful with the remaining stones. sometimes this happens because the metal prongs of the setting wears down, or they get bent over time. It may not be detected by the average person. I would recomend that you take your treasure to a reputable jeweler a.s.a.p. to have it checked . In the mean time be careful and good luck finding your stone!

Weight Loss interested in life changes more than just numbers? Aug 20 2008
14:24 (UTC)

Yep. I grew up very skinny and eating whatever I wanted .My mom was very busy and didn't cook well or often and certainly not healthy.Lots of canned foods ,frozen dinners, processed food. Lucky for me I was also a very active child. Well after 30 that certainly changed. Not only did I continue to eat unhealthy I stopped being active.I didn't even realize the first 20 lb. gain until I saw a photo of myself that showed me how fat my knees had gotten. Still in denial, and wearing a lot of knits I ate on.I had moments of getting active over the years but still didn't really get what eating healthy was. I thought that I was doing o.k. because I like and eat a lot of fruits and veggies.I didn't think twice about how much sugar, sodium, or calories I consumed.

To make a long story shorter, I was married at 39. Of course I lost some weight for the big day, and gained it right back within the first few months. But "fat" happy me ate on. I had 2 kids in two years at 43 and 45 and sat at 179.5 for over a year nursing an injury and wanting to see a change but not educating  myself to change.

In the mean time, a  very good friend of mine was diagnosed with lung cancer at a "healthy" 36 years of age. He didn't survive. I in turn decided that I need to be healthy. I also need to teach my children to eat and live healthy. Really healthy, not what I THINK is good but doing the home work to know what I am putting in my body and into my family.

I happened upon cc but it has really helped and challenged me to find healthy choices for food and fitness.

I walk daily with my kids(in a stroller), and am on my way to 140lbs.. It's not about the numbers for me it's about a healthy life.

I am excited about my changes and look foward to being the healthiest I have ever been.
