After living with my boyfriend for 3 years, I can't imagine living without him. Being together everyday helps balance our relationship. He slows me down and I speed him up and we end up in the middle. Overall it's the best thing for us. |

I got in trouble with the law and my parents bailed me out of it. I paid every cent that went into getting me OUT of trouble!!! All bail, probation expenses, bought my own car and insurance. They supported me by letting me live at their house ( I was 17 at the time) and made me deal with my trouble (that I caused) on my own. Now, 3 years after this, my parents help me pay my tuition and help with my financial needs because I proved myself to be responsible for myself when it was necessary. I cleaned up my act and paid for all of it and I'm a better person for having to pay for everything by myself. Yes, it was difficult, but I wouldn't have learned as much if I didn't bear the financial burden of my mistakes. |

I agree with seeing the boyfriend on a regular basis idea. My boyfriend and I live together and over the last year I've lost 10 lbs and he gained about 25 lbs. He never commented on my loss and I didn't really notice his gain until I looked at pictures from our last Christmas together. THEN I noticed. I don't really have anything to add besides the fact that men aren't mind readers and won't say anything that will potentially get them in trouble (if it's a good guy!). |

As a student studying Nutrition Sciences I think that the Food Pyramid is a good visual example of a balanced diet. Overall, I think it's easier for Americans to look at the pyramid then to calculate their diet based on the 50-60% Carb, 30-35% Protein and 20-30% Fat ratios that is recommended to an average person. I use the MyPyramid website for schoolwork all the time and the website has a menu plan and a diet evaulator and you can imput your personal data for a personal food pyramid with suggestions of how to get your recommended servings per day with lots of variety.
Overall, I like the food pyramid. |

At my first appointment I made a list of what I usually eat for my meals and snacks and then I did a 5 day food record and brought it back. From my day-to-day account she advised me on the nutrients I was skipping out on and how I could easily incorporate them into my diet and increase my calorie intake without having to eat a whole lot more, just better nutritious choices.
I'm training to be a dietitian, so I know your appointment won't be torture. Nutritionists are here to serve your needs. |

I think your mom and doctor are mainly concerned about how you would go about losing 20 lbs. A crash diet or starving yourself to lose 20 lbs would be unhealthy even if your starting weight was much higher than it is. If you concentrate on eating healthy and incorporating more exercise into your daily routine then I dont think 140 is too low for you to still be healthy. Hope that helps... |

| Weight Loss | Opinions on this meal plan | Nov 19 2008 02:22 (UTC) |

For dinner, if you eat at home, salads are easy to make and the ingredients are fairly cheap. I use raw spinach, romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes, chopped carrots and cucumbers and some low fat cheese sprinkled on top. I like balsamic vinegrette too. I agree with all the previous posts that your diet needs more protein, chicken breast, pinto beans, black beans, fish, edamame or ground turkey are good and easy things to throw next to a salad. I don't have a lot of time to cook and usually take my lunch to school with me so I hardboil eggs to bring for good protein at lunch. I completely think the 100 cal packs are overpriced, especially when you can buy a regular box of crackers or chips and divide it into servings in your own plastic bags. It's a little more work, but it's much cheaper and knowing what one serving looks like is helpful for when you're eating a meal that you have to guesstimate your portions and calorie intake.
Planning meals just takes practice. Good luck!!! |

| Health & Support | Is anyone else REALLY bad at intuitive eating? | Nov 14 2008 20:04 (UTC) |

I have no sense of intuitive eating. I can't figure out what I want to eat when I'm hungry and other times I just eat anything I see when I'm bored and not hungry. Maybe someday my mind will be able to understand what my stomach needs, but I keep trying every day. |

| Weight Loss | When in flippity %@*# did a BMI under 20 become considered underweight?? | Nov 10 2008 19:49 (UTC) |
21 |
The US Health Organizations as well as most dietitians and nutritionists know that a BMI of under 18.5 is underweight and over 24 is overweight. Your healthy weight is dependent on your frame size as well as your height. If size 6 angers you so much, then go by the waistline in inches. A 28' waist can't be bigger or smaller than 28". |

Each gram of fat has 9 kcal, a gram of carbohydrates(sugar) has 4 kcal and each gram of protein has 4 kcal. So 9 grams of protein would total 36 kcal, 3 grams of fat would total 27 kcal and 10 grams of sugar/carbs would total 40 kcal. Hope that helps |

I'm also a college student and if I'm not drinking with everyone else I'm sitting at home on Saturday night doing nothing. I haven't cut out drinking all together because I enjoy having fun with my friends, but not drinking beer on a regular basis helped me to lose 5 lbs after the summer ended. Usually I look for a low-cal option for my drinks, but that's the best I can do. There are a lot of good drink recipes I've found online and most bartenders can make whatever diet cocktail i ask for. Good luck!!! your willpower is stronger than mine. |

I have a book called "Eat This, Not That" and it has a fantastic list of healthy options at fast food and regular restaurants. It's relatively inexpensive (about $10) and it's really helpful when picking items when eating out. Examples: Panera-
Deceptively, the Fuji apple chicken salad has 580 calories and the sierra turkey sandwich has 840 calories.
The book is by David Zinczenko, editor-in-chief of Men's Health magazine and I picked up a copy at Border's bookstore. I really recommend having a copy, it's an awesome book.
