| Weight Loss | Question about weight loss tickers | Aug 30 2008 06:47 (UTC) |
|
I dont' think whitney needs to gain weight... good lord, she's not much taller than me... 100 lbs is still considered "high" for my height....being under 5 feet tall, i'd want to find a below 100 lbs ticker too!!!
(but whitney, i think you ARE at a good weight now... aren't you close to 100 right now? so you are on track, you dont' need to lose any more unless you have a small body frame like i do - for me, 96 lbs is perfect. my legs and arms are super skinny, even when i gain weight.. it looks awful when my stomach balloons out.... a few weeks ago someone asked when my baby was due!!!! wahaha!!! that's how "fat" i look right now.. it's awful) anyway, if you are planning on going below 100, you dont' want to get too much lower. i think you are a little taller than i am, right?

thanks for that answer (on religious fasts). makes sense. I haven't done a fast myself so I wasn't sure of the particulars, but I do remember he was doing liquids.

how about eating some popcorn late night? i dont' promote eating anything at all before going to bed, but if you must, maybe popcorn is good. it's high fiber so that's a good thing! as long as you aren't dousing it with butter, you should be ok! |

| Weight Loss | bloating - what's normal? | Aug 11 2008 15:35 (UTC) |

that's right.. i read somewhere that avoiding sugar is one thing you can do. it's easier said than done though!
i know i don't have endometriosis. i've already had a hysterectomy the other year and was hoping my problems would go away, but they haven't. at least the bloating hasnt' gone away but the hysterectomy did erase some of the uncomfortable stuff that went with it. |

i wish i knew what was normal, but i know what i have is not normal. i was told i have IBS and i notice one thing, if i have too much fiber i will bloat big time. i'm alwys bloated but yes, i'm best in the morning and it gets worse as i eat throughout the day. |

Whitney, oddly enough, i too rarely go out without some sort of cover up and i rarely wear shorts but that's mostly because i think it's too cold here (san diego!). but i try to force myself to stop wearing longer sleeves all the time.. i guess maybe i feel self conscious too?
wow.......... that's great with the crunches!!! i am so bad with that... it's the only type of exercise i hate and i dont' do them at all. do you think this would help me and my stomach?
well, i sincerely wish i had your problem! a pregnant looking stomach is awful. good news, i did lose a lb between yesterday morning and this morning, so i'm so happy! i ate too much, about 1400 calories, but i stopped eating around 6pm and i did fine. i just drink a lot of water and frankly, i'm not hungry if i'm eating a lot of fiber and healthier foods.
good luck!!! |

Ok.. i have a stupid question............. i know i keep reading about the minimum # of calories we must eat... however, many people do religious fasts. you DO NOT EAT 1200 CALORIES when you are fasting! i knew a guy who would fast for a few days, and he was fine! so what is the difference? what makes that healthier than someone trying to lose weight by eating say 800 calories? I know with fasting, you are allowed liquids - is that the difference? |

| I forgot to check in on friday so here i am as of today:
Height 4' 11.75" Start weight 108 lbs (peak) Current weight 106 lb
My goal weight is 99 lbs, but it would be nice to get down to 96 (although I am not pushing it). Goal for next week - 105 lb
I'm a bit upset because i'm having a hard time losing the weight... i have to say... i was on atkins for 2 weeks a few months ago and i lose 3 lbs in a week, which is still healthy....... but because i'm hypoglycemic i didn't want to continue... but really... i think eating more proteins and keeping the carbs to a minimum is probablyi the best way to lose weight. (plus exercise, about 2 hours a day).

hi Whitney!!! I realy wish i had YOUR problems girlfriend! Because i'm so thin all over, it makes me look pregnant, and i've been told several times that i look it. i'm not embarrased, it's just confirmation that i do need to lose weight.
i do not know how to get my stomach to lose it's pouch. it's really bad and has gotten worse lately.

| Foods | health food store... what to get? | Jul 17 2008 20:50 (UTC) |

i love health food markets, but as always, check the labelS!! i always go by the following: carb count, calories, protein and fiber. i like to buy food products with high fiber count, low carb, low calories, but higher protein if possible. my goal these days is fiber, because that helps you feel full longer and it's healthier!
i bought KASHI go lean cereal while on vacatoin, and i love it! it's got a lot of fiber (10mg) for 1 cup serving, so i ate it every day for breakfast. now im eating it a home, along with ALL BRAN and mixed grain oatmeal (not all at once! haha! i alternate).

Been on vacation and yes, gained some weight, but i walked 3 miles almost every morning while in Hawaii so i only gained 3 lbs!
this is not friday but since i missed a few weigh ins, I am currently 107 lbs. Goal is 99 lbs. |

Oh, i also wanted to add i have the same problem as some of you here..... all my fat goes to my stomach... it's awful!! people actually think i'm pregnant! my arms and legs are super thin (husband says my legs look great haha! all that stationery bike works out great!!).
I am starting to do some abs exercise in hopes that may make some difference.

I'm new to calorie count and would like to join you all. I just started here a little less than a week ago.
My stats: Height 4' 11.75" current weight 105 lb (I was 108 about a month or two ago, but i started Atkins for a few weeks and it jump started me!).
since starting CC, i have been pretty steady at 104 but i pigged out yesterday thus the Friday weigh in of 105 lbs.
My goal weight is 99 lbs, but it would be nice to get down to 96 (although I am not pushing it).
currently i have been sick (fighting a cold) so have not exercised. I am also about to take off on vacation (maui) so the food intake may not look pretty.. I will try to watch what I eat but I am allowing myself some slack.
My problem with food is i can be good for a while but then I'll binge. Too much temptation!

healthy bmi - thanks for that note. i'll be more sensitive. my closer friends know..... i'm a drama queen so i tend to use exaggerated terms sometimes..... i just didn't want people to "dismiss" my own concerns.. that was what was getting me a bit ticked off... that my own small weight goals was not worth even looking at..... |

minerva-mom - thanks for the reply! i was a bit snappish myself and you are right... 'm NOT fat..... slightly over weight (i'm sorry, i'm still using that word). but yes, you get it!
still... i am really concerned sometimes.. i'm not THAT much over weight but boy, my stomach is huge! you should see it now! doctors tell me this is just IBS so i have to trust that. i've had a lot of exploratory surgery done the past few years for various stuff (female, digestive) and they have NOT found anything wrong (except i had to have a hysterectomy)... i always worry about that whole ovary cancel deal.... i thought one of the symptoms was bloated stomach...!
anyway, when i met my husband i was at the low end of the BMI scale.. just trying to get there!
i did go back and look up Whitney's bio and then realized what the uproar was... that one day she only had 400 calories...... yeah, that's a bit extreme.. but glad she was told she needs to bring it up to about 1200.

thanks minerva mom! the BMI is an approximation. it is not accurate when you have a lot of muscle, for instance. my friend's husband has a bmi of 30... he is NOT overweight.. he is HUGE because of all the msucle he has... he is BIG boned, tons of muscle. he's in the army, is considered in top shape.
my husabnd also has a high bmi, but he works out obsessivly and has a lot of muscle. we KNOW he's not overweight per se. he is trying to lose 10 lbs as I am.
ALL i have to lose is 5-10 lbs. that is all. this will get me down to the correct weight that Weighth Watchers has had me going for. it is EXACTLY where i should be. do not tell me not to lose the 5-10 lbs. this type of attitude is what makes people gain weight. "Oh, it's only 5 lbs".. and then the following year "oh, i only gained another 5 lbs".... to many people do this, and after 20 years.. you've gained what, 100 lbs??? duh.
you WORK at the weight NOW....... 5-10 lbs sounds like nothing to a lot of large people, but if you are under 5 feet tall you KNOW that this is a lot of weight.
i am focusing on laerning to eat the amoutn of food right for my age group. it's taking timem to adjust, and i am doing this slowly.
please note - i use the term overweight, because i am NOT at the weight i should be. i never said i was obese. i could never become obese, because i have issues when i get past a certain point (too much pain as my stomach expands and pulls on my ribs), but i also have a lot of food allergies that does not allow me to eat a lot of foods. my problem though is i overeat WHAT i can eat... and that's where i'm learning to "fix"...

thanks healthy bmi - trust me - i am NOT doing anything crazy by eating onlyi 1400 calories. I am TINY TINY TINY... for a "normal" person, to gain 20 lbs is what my 5 lbs is equivalent to. My BMR puts me at 1800 calories, to maintain. even WEIGHT WATCHERS has me on 1200 calories to get down to a 19 bmi. so i'm actually not doing much to lose the weight. doing it slowly.
anyway, i just need to lose 5-10 lbs at most. that is all.
people who see me trust me that because i'm so short, the 5-10 lbs is enough to get me back to where i should be. but also, gaining this weight is almost painful - because i have IBS, my stomach expandes inches when i eat. I HAVE to lose weight to even feel comfortable (the ligaments on my ribs start to stretch and i have excruciating pain when i start to gain weight! i've had to go to emergency a few times for pain pills because i thought i broke my ribs)...
trust me... when i'm in my native land (japan) i am considered fat. if you saw my body, you would understand.. skinny every where but huge stomach... but as i lose weighth (I have lost about 3 lbs the past few months), the stomach shrinks.

ACtually, i've been told by many that the ONLY way to lose the tummy is to lose weight. Trust me - i am over weight for my height. I am under 5 feet tall. I should NOT weigh more than 100 lbs. My sister is an inch shorter than me, is 90 lbs. Absolute minimum she should be, but the point is, all our lives she was FAT, was 20 pounds heavier than me (I was on the other hand UNDER weight at that time). It was weird how we switched places. I'm not as big as she ever used to be, but on the other hand i'm the biggest i've ever been. I was 10 lbs lighter when i met my husband, and back then i was STILL over weight. I would be happier if I could at least get to the weight that I was when we had first met.
Anyway, exercises will not get rid of the stomach. Those who think exercise can do that are mistaken. Yes, you can tone muscle, but if you are overweight and your weight moves to your stomach more than any other part of the body, you HAVE to lose the weight (and exercise) in order to lose that pouch.

You go girl! I'm also doing the same - have about 5-10 lbs to lose. I have a very thin frame and with the extra 10 lbs i look 4 months pregnant. im' not joking. people have asked me when the baby is due.
my bmi now is about 20. i am used to being a 18 or 19 bmi. this it NOT thin for me. i am tiny. i am under 5 feet. this is normal for me. i have never been this fat in my life, and compard to my family ( cousins, sibling) i am the fattest around. we are all tiny framed people and any excess weight looks awful on us. i wouldnt' mind if i gained weight evenly but i dont'. i gain it all on my stomach which is horrible. clothes don't fit, or are too tight but im' loose everywhere else. smaller on top.
anyway, my calories goal is 1400 a day. i'm going to move that to 1200 eventually but i'm doing this slowly.
good luck!!!! |

i'm in the same boat as you Amnlcrckr. I want to get back to where i was a few years back. It's just a 5-10 lb gain, but the problem is, i can't seem to get back down to where i used to be.
I had hoped to lose 10 lbs by next week (I've been working on this for a while now) but it's not happening. I will be in Maui and i am looking really awful in that bathing suit right now.... |
