Weight Loss Oh my oh my... Nov 18 2009

ditto to vcarrie.  parties and potlucks are so hard!  if you're able to take a walk or get a quick workout in this evening, that should help as well.  i have learned that when i overeat if i force myself to walk, even for only 10 minutes, afterwards, it makes me feel a lot better and it lets me clear my head so that the rest of my day isn't completely ruined.  good luck!

Motivation what do you do to reward yourself? Aug 03 2009

I just started about two months ago and have been working really hard to jump start my weight loss.  I haven't bought new clothes since before December in order to motivate myself to wait until i can buy smaller ones.  Well, I have finally lost enough so that my clothes are feeling a little looser, and I decided to treat myself to a couple of new items for work.  I was extatic to discover that I was able to buy everything a size smaller!  I forced myself to only buy a few things so that I can go again in a couple of months and hopefully buy another size smaller (or maybe two, hope hope hope?)  I feel fabulous right now as I sit at my desk rocking my new pants and blouse (minus a little of the usual muffin top, haha)!

Keep up the good work everyone!!!

keep up the self-love everyone!  we need a little more of it in the world, especially when we're focusing on getting healthier.

Hi Tammy!  Thanks for starting this thread.  Too bad more people haven't joined, but hopefully they will come.  Great job with your walk!  2 hours is awesome.

I'm about to turn 23, and I'm about 5'4"/ 5'5".  I have been struggling with weight for years and have fluctuated between 170 and 185 for the last 8.  I graduated college a little over a year ago and developed some unhealthy eating and drinking habits while in school.  Now that I'm working and have less social pressure to eat unhealthily, I am able to focus more on my goals and really work to feel good about myself.  I have been using CC for about a year but haven't been very diligent.  I got my butt into gear about a month ago and have been logging food and exercise almost daily.  I started out in June at 175 lbs and when I weighed myself at the gym on Monday I was at 170 lbs.  A slow start number-wise, but I feel soooo much better already!  I have been attending spinning classes two-three times a week and I thought I might die at my first one it was so intense!  But now I can make it through no problem (of course it still kicks by butt, but that's the point right?!), and I feel so accomplished after each class.

My main problem has been separating food from my emotions.  I use food to celebrate, relax, mourn, vent, etc.  I am focusing on small actions to replace food when I am feeling overwhelmed, such as writing on these forums, taking a walk to clear my head, calling a friend, etc.

I'm excited to continue on this journey and hopefully make some health-improvement buddies along the way.  Keep up your good work!

Weight Loss Right before "girl time" Jul 23 2009

obviously from all the postings i am not alone when i say YES!!! i can eat so much right before "girl time" - way more than would normally make me feel really gross and overly full.  it's horrible!  i have learned over the last few months to eat a lot of cucumbers and celery during that time of the month, even if i do binge on a lot of junk, because they help with keeping down the bloating/ water weight gain and makes it easier to shed the pounds the following week or two.  give it a try!

Fitness Yawning during a strenuous workout??? Jul 28 2008

Hi.  I have heard that yawning during exercise is your body's way of cooling your brain because it forces a large quantity of oxygen to flow through you if you haven't been breathing deeply enough.  This happens to me all the time -- it's hard to breathe deep when you're working hard!

Foods Why does CC rank yogurt so low? Jul 24 2008

I love yogurt and am also saddened by it's low CC grade.  However, I just discovered Dannon Light N' Fit yogurt, which is made with splenda (I think) and is only 60 calories for all the different flavors.  It doesn't have the extra-sugary taste that some yogurts have, and it's surprisingly filling.  I add a 1/2 cup of regular cheerios to it and it's a fiber and protein-rich, filling breakfast for only about 120 calories.

Hi everyone.  I'm 21, going to be 22 in september and I have been doing this now for about a month.  I have always been heavy and I have tried all kinds of crazy diets, but it is time to get serious about making lifestyle changes, not just rollercoaster dieting.  I just graduated college and started a full-time job so I have a regular schedule now (and no constant barrage of 3am pizza or greasy cafeteria food), so I can control my eating and exercise a lot more easily.  I have lost 4 lbs so far, which I"m pretty happy about since I've been able to average a lb a week.  I have been trying really hard to stay within my calorie limits and exercise.  For those of you who haven't tried spinning classes -- try them immediately.  They will kick your butt but you can burn 800-1000 calories depending on your height/weight/ability.  It's a-ma-zing.  Anyway, since graduating all my friends and support systems are gone and I need buddies to help me stay on track with this.  So... hopefully we can help each other out?

My stats:

5'4/5'5, 21, female

SW: 173

CW: 169

GW: 135 (125-130 would be amazing, but I'll be satisfied w/135)

Hope to make some CC friends and offer whatever support I can!
