| Weight Loss | US navy body fat % calculator says I'm obese | Jun 23 2009 23:22 (UTC) |

I just tried it out of curiosity, and I actually think that is might just be becase you need to click in a different spot after you are done entering the info. As I was putting in my measurements it kept changing, and said I was obese too. ( 1 am 5'4" 140) Until I clicked out of the neck measurement spot to the top, and it changed to acceptable. Try messing with the numbers a bit. Don't worry, there is no way you are obese! |

Sorry to butt in, but just have to say: I am so glad that stupid jello ad is gone. You know, the one that asks you why you are eating something that has 100 cals, when you could be eating 10 cal. jello??!! Hello! I'm eating a carrot! And yes I would rather eat that than freakin' jello!! Sorry, been wanting to get that out for a while. :-) |

OOooo. I had that same surgery when I was 15. I don't really remember what I ate, except that the first night home from the hospital I tried some soup that had rice in it and it got stuck. So be careful of chunky stuff at first. You will get used to it, and be able to eat more things as it heals. Puree soups like butternut, tomato, potato etc. will be good. Oh and milkshakes!!! I kind of remember my mom pureeing stoffers dinners, like chicken ala king, or tuna noodle casserole. Not the healthiest stuff, but I did get really hungry, so it got the calories in there. Good luck! I hope your surgery goes well! |

I usually eat that way, and haven't had a problem losing weight. It can be challenging for me to take the time to make healthy food for myself during the day, and I like to plan for dinner to be my biggest meal. I think 55% isn't too bad. As long as you are not letting yourself get too hungry during the day! That being said, I always eat a good-size breakfast, and it lasts me well into the day. You have to figure out what works for you, everyone is different. |

| Weight Loss | What are you doing to address the underlying issues? | Mar 28 2009 17:22 (UTC) |

Thank you all for your replies. I guess that this is an ongoing question for me. Although, I feel more confident and aware of my own body, I have really struggled to figure out where my self-esteem issues come from. Clairelaine- I really identify with what you said, and will be checking out that book! I always felt like I was not good enough, treated myself that way, and allowed others to treat me that way also. In fact, I often chose men I knew would treat me badly, because I didn't "deserve" a good guy. After a lot of thinking about it I realize that I don't blame my mother for my issues, but I know that her attitude about herself had a huge impact on me. I was sharing clothes with my mom by the time I was 11. And at the time she was always trying to lose that last few pounds. What I didn't see at the time~she wasn't fat!!! Since she thought she was, that meant I was, I was just like her!! It seems obvious now, but for years I thought, "my mom and I have always struggled with being overweight" Looking back at old pictures, she was slim, and I was just a growing girl!! I know my mom only wanted the best for me, but her own self-esteem issues became mine. Now I am a mother of 2 small girls, and will do everything I can to stop the cycle. I want my kids to have good self images, and I know that the best way I can insure that is by improving my own idea of myself. Although I am very proud of my weight loss, (I only have 2 lbs. to go!!) I want to work towards intuitive eating. I want to focus on the positive, and not make them feel like they are only good people if they are a certian size. Good luck to everyone that is delving into the subject, it is not always easy, but so worth it!! |

They have a website that has nutritional info.. Most of the food is pretty high cal., but they have a few healthy options. I went there a few weeks ago and had the talapia with ministrone instead of salad. (they douse the salad with dressing!Blech!) The soup was really good. Have fun with your family! |

Yeah, I agree with Thermal and lyri! If he says he likes angelfood with white frosting, that is what he likes. When I first met my husband, I was always trying to cook fancy things for him. He was a good sport about it, but he likes things plain. So I say, keep it simple! Good luck! |

I feel this way a lot. In fact as I near my goal weight my mind seems to be working against me sometimes. Like, look how hard I have worked, don't I deserve a little splurge. Or, now that I am a healthy weight, it won't matter if I overeat a little. Wrong, that is what got me 70 lbs overweight to begin with!! It is nice to know there are others that feel that too! I guess that we just have to stay dedicated to our healthy lifestyles, and eventually maybe those temptations will get easier to deal with.

It is never pointless to eat healthy and exercise. But I don't weigh myself during my period. I always feel a little bloated, and I know that the number on the scale may not truly reflect my efforts. |

I had a great one this weekend! I went out with my husband for a date night. I wore a mini-skirt! But that wasn't evern the best part! We went to a small bar in the little town we live in. I have not seen the owner in about 4 months, but we are familiar with each other. She was being kind of rude to my husband, but I didn't really think much of it. I have lost about 65 lbs. in the last year, but I also chopped my hair off, and had contacts in, so I looked pretty different. After about 30 minutes, she says "Oh wow! You cut your hair!!" The whole time she thought my husband had brought another woman out! She was giving him dirty looks, and checking out his wedding ring! |

| Foods | too much sugar? | Feb 09 2009 17:52 (UTC) |
|
I have had the same problem. I read on one a post here somewhere, that as long as most of the sugar that you are getting comes from fruit and veggies than don't worry. If you are really concerned about it, try leaving out your fruit from your log, and see where your sugar is. Congrats on the 9 lbs.! That is great! Good luck! |

OK, so I just found a previous thread where someone said it DID work with a shuffle, but I can't find any real proof! Looking at the thing, I see no way that it could connect! Does anyone out there know for sure? |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Help me, Could I be pregnant? | Dec 17 2008 02:00 (UTC) |

I found out that I was pregnant with my second while I was on BC, and had only had 1 normal period. I had one very light period, and the next month I was pregnant! I was on the breast-feeding pill, which if I understand right, requires total vigilance, because it is not as strong as the other kinds. I was still sure that I could not be prego, because I didn't think I had missed or been that late with any of my pills. So, take a test if you are really questioning it, you do not want to keep taking the pill if you are pregnant. Good luck!! |

Yes it is uncooked, I had the same issue the first time I cooked quinoa. I don't really get why the different brands are so different, but is not that caloric, and expands quite a bit when you cook it. |

I was in a very similar situations when I was about your age. It ended horribly for everyone involved. I cannot believe how self-centered I was, I thought of only myself, and it effected way too many people that I did not want to hurt. Cut your losses, and be the bigger person. You will find someone else that you are meant to be with. You can think about what would have happened if you had met 2 years ago, well what about 2 years from now when he "falls in love" with someone else, while you are 6 months pregnant? |

I recently got a food scale and found that you are definitely right! I don't think I have found a single carrot that is even as small as a medium, and I didn't think I was buying especially large carrots! I weigh only the edible parts of the food. Banana after I peel it, apple after I cut it, and so on. I don't know that it even really matters that much, but I feel like I am a lot closer on my counting now! But you are right! The sizes are really off sometimes! |

So would the OP need to enter the 60 minutes a day into the activity log? Sorry if this is thread-jacking, but I am still trying to figure this out myself, if you put your activity level at light, but don't exercise everyday should you log, or not? |

| Weight Loss | # attempts at losing weight | Dec 10 2008 18:08 (UTC) |

I have been "trying" to lose weight for what feels like my whole life since I was 13 or so. But I only remember a few times of actually putting consistent effort into it. About 6 yrs. ago I lost about 40 lbs. (188 to 140). Then gained back 10, and maintained at about 150 for a year or so without paying attention to my diet. Then I got pregnant, and was just starting to lose weight when I got pregnant again. Now my youngest is 2 1/2. I started losing about 7 months ago. I have gone form 215 to 151. The big thing for me now is to maintain, and focus on improving my fitness and health. I do not ever want to be overweight again! |
