Young Calorie Counters How to get your parents to buy healthier food Dec 09 2008

Thanks for your advice, I'll try to persuade them to buy healthier food.  For thier health, My grandmother did have a very minor stroke a few weeks ago, (due to stress and the southern cook's love for butter.)

I think, In my family it's a lack of time that makes them eat so poorly, It's not always easy to make everything from scratch. They think that if they don't buy convenience food it will be hard to prepare meals in a timely manner. It might take a while to show them that with a little planning, healthy eating can be just as easy as eating out of a box.  if it doesn't work, only a year before I'll be in my own place ^_^

Last night I went shopping with mom, she didn't go for whole grain pasta but she did, at least, show a will to cook a real meal.

I think I'm cooking tonight. Yeay :)

Young Calorie Counters What are your measurments. Dec 08 2008

Either I'm measuring myself wrong, or everyone else is being extreme with their measurements.

I'm 5'2" and weigh 117lbs.

Bust - 35

Waist - 26

Hip - 34 where I wear my jeans, and 37 around the widest part of my butt.

I wear a 3-4 in jeans, and I'm a 32C

A lot of other girls on this forum have measurements in the 20s...

Now, why are you complaining?

I'm happy with my body and am much 'bigger'

According to the def of body shapes, hour glass is any measurements with the bust and hip being within 2 inches, and more than 10% larger than the waist.

Pear is with the bum being 10% larger than the bust, apple is the bust being 10% larger than the bum.

The exercise where you lay on one side, stick your top leg strait out and raise the lower leg to meet it, and hold it for 10-30 seconds, based on skill... that works.

That +weight loss.

Unfortunately for me I'd have to drop down to an unhealthy weight to get 'the gap'

I'm sorry but 1) the calculator on the link is based rediculously high and 2) I'm not starving myself. If I'm hungry, I eat healthy food. 3) If I seriously, ate over 2000 calories a day, I would be overweight. Believe me, I've tried it. I was overweight eating the amount of calories the guidelines recommend.

I don't know if everyone else wants to trust a site, or their body. But I think I'm going to trust my body.

The college that I'm planning to go to doesn't force you to buy a meal plan.

But uh...

Like I'm going to be able to afford to feed myself. I will probably keep friuts and veggies stocked up so  I dont have to live on raman doodles and coke.

The school lunches here are all fried foods (ICK) but they usually have a healthy choice, usually a salad. :) The vending machines are only allowed to have diet drinks in them

We have a 'break' for 15 minutes where the school will sell unhealthy food (including pizza) out the windows...

I just want a damn banana -_-

I might start bringing a sack lunch. Whole wheat bread sandwich - mmmmmm

Young Calorie Counters To 13-15 year olds: How much do you weigh and how tall are you? Dec 04 2008

Rule of thumb for female 'ideal' weight is as follows...

5 feet = 100 lbs, + 5lbs for every inch after that. For a small frame subtract 5lbs, for a large frame add 5.

For example, I am 5'2" with a small frame. My ideal weight would be 100 + 5(3) = 115 - 5lbs for frame size

Ideal weight - 110.

(although I look and feel best at 100-105)

The Lounge Can YOU afford Christmas this year? (vent-ish) Dec 02 2008
23:43 (UTC)
24

Christmas is about sharing and loving one another. It shouldn't be about scrambling to sales (trampling innocent people while doing so) to make everyone on your list happy. Love should be expressed through action, not money.
Every year the holiday season gets tougher and tougher on people. Every year people want more. Christmas gifts get more expensive, Thanksgiving dinner demands to be larger, Decorations need to be more etc. Christmas (if finance allows comfortably) should be a time where you give gifts of appreciation to your loved ones. Not a time to buy gifts to express love. Material items will be mostly forgotten by people. Actions last forever.

As a teen still living with her mother, I've encouraged my family not to get me much for Christmas. A Lot of families are noticing a tighter budget, and simply cannot afford expensive gifts that people want. People have forgotten (including my family) that Christmas is not REQUIRED. It's simply an extra little something to show someone that you think of them. A coloring book and some crayons will mean just as much to a kid as a new video game. (and they'll get more use out of the coloring book)

But still, people are stressing over getting someone an iPod, thinking "Oh my gosh how am I ever going to afford to make them happy!?"

Newsflash: They'd be just as happy with something less expensive.

It's the THOUGHT that counts. Cheap gifts are a good thing!

If I were a mother having to cut back Christmas a little because of the recession I would simply explain to my kids that Christmas is about giving and that I want to give them the best in the world, but the money is just too tight.

Pregnancy & Parenting Home birth is your choice Jul 17 2008
22:10 (UTC)

I definitely think home birth is the best option, for a low risk pregnancy. Doctors treat pregnancy like a disease and that makes me angry. I haven't had a baby yet, but I know that every time I've been in the hospital nobody listened to what I was trying to say. No doctor or nurse would tell me what they were doing with me or listen to my symptoms before jumping to outlandish conclusions. One of my organs was nearly removed for no reason! If a doctor wont listen to a sick persons symptoms I will not trust them to listen to a pregnant woman's wishes.

First birth will be an at home for me!

Weight Loss "Cheat" Days Jul 01 2008

Original Post by given2staci:

I have cheat DAYS. It starts off well enough, but lunch at Chili's turns into Pizza at night. An all the bad things in between. I don't think toooo many people have cheat days. They kinda just happen until you are better into your diet an can understand your food patterns. Personally this site is great for that.

Some diets tell you that it is ok. Like weight watchers. You get extra points you can save up an blow on fast food. however, diets like the no carb diet or the all protein diet are actually very restrictive until well into them. Honestly I don't think anyone should discredit eating anything on the food pyramid. As long as it benefits you in some way. My excuse....pizza has cheese an tomato's......taco has protein an bread ^^. However, it is how much you eat an  if the good stuff outweighs the bad.

Unless you are diabetic....totally different.

For me cheating is pretty damaging. If I do it well enough I gain at least a pound that day. One pound equals 500 calories.

 UUUUuuuummm NOOO

1lb DOES NOT = 500 calories

Try 3500!!!

I don't really care what men in general are attracted to, it really depends on the man.

What I have found to be the most attractive to a man is....

BOOBS

tiny waist

HIPS

long TONED legs

Something like this...

5'5" 36-22-36, half of her being legs.

I've always found it kind of easy to achieve that body. Then again, only 8% of women actually have an "hourglass" body.

Just weighing however much you need to be at your "ideal" weight is usually very attractive.

Not to fat, not too skinny is usually attractive to all men

Is your scale broken?

I found out that mine was when one day I weighed 126 and the next I weighed 134...Not happening lol.

So, I asked my family members, turned out it had been kicked and thrown. Poor scale.

I suggest that you...

1) Buy a new scale. (digital is best ;))

2) Weigh yourself before eating or drinking anything, and after urinating and having a bowel movement (sorry if that's gross) it gets the most accurate weight.

3) Weigh yourself either in the same clothes every day, or just in your under clothes.
