Motivation enough is enough. NO MORE BINGEING. Aug 13 2008

How is a binge defined?  Is it a certain number of calories in a certain time period?  The reason I ask is because here's the problem I've been having lately and I don't know if it's binge eating or night eating or what?  My daily goal is 1250 calories.  I do well through out the day and end with having 100 to 200 calories left after dinner for a night-time snack.  The problem is I end up eating 500 calories at night over the course of a few hours, like 9 to 11 PM.  So, after all my hard work during the day I end up around 1600 to 1700 calories.  I know it's still better than the 2000 healthy norm but it's delaying my weight loss and I don't know how to stop.  Or, I know but can't seem to do it!

Help....

I'm game!

I'm 38 years old and weigh 207.5 this morning.  My goal will be to lose 21 lbs by Halloween or 186.5.  Sounds reasonable to me....

Thanks so much for the responses so far ~ how inspiring!  I'm so glad I asked.  I've been on the site for 6 weeks and just keep gaining and losing the same 3 pounds.  Im working on trying to figure out why for myself and just needed reassurances that folks are happy with their results.

Congrats to you all!

Day 3 no bingeing!  God this is so hard!  No sleep eating (that I know of)!  I should have mentioned that I take a pill to sleep and maybe that's why I was able to eat unconsciously.  It has happened a few times before - like once every 9 months or so.

Congrats to all plugging along on this trail with me!  Every day without bingeing is a success.

I'm 38 and will say for the first time - right here - I have an eating disorder.

WOW!  Can't believe I actually believe it now!

Today was day two - no binges!

I ate close to 1700 calories instead of 1250 goal but still less than I burn so should be ok.  I didn't overeat but had to eat out for lunch and dinner so did my best to make good choices.  Still came up higher than I'd hoped,  but I'm really happy anyway.

The old me would beat myself up for going over 450 calories today which would lead to really overeating.  I'm not going there.  Compared to a pre cc day when I would/could have consumed 5000 calories I did alright today.

One weird thing though - I slept ate last night.  I came downstairs after everyone was in bed and ate 3 slices of deli turkey.  Scary, huh?

Today is day one for me - no more binges!  You know it's hard for us to follow the rules for breaking addictions when food is our drug of choice.  We can't take actions to make sure we are not exposed to our drug.  We must go to the grocery store regularly.  We must attend catered functions.  So, how do we deal with our "red light" binge foods when they are staring us in the face and it's day nine?  How do we get to day ten?  I'm going to try and get myself a token when I hit 30 days.  Something to keep with me to remind me of how long it's been since I've binged.

Any other suggestions?  Thoughts?

I couldn't agree more with the statement that daily weighings makes me discouraged.  It's such a catch though.  If I don't get on the scale I wonder if this is the day the pound loss will show and then when I get on the scale Im disappointed if it's up a pound or two.  I still haven't found the right balance for me.

I actually lost .5 of a pound!  Has the plateau ended?  It feels like it has -- even though I'm only down half a pound I feel different.

We'll see.

I'm with you lucylus - I feel so much more "in tune" with what my body really needs since I've started CC.  I realize now that I rarely felt hunger before.  I will admit that the first few weeks I felt like I was never going to feel full again and that made me very depressed.  Now I make better choices that let me feel full and good.  I've had emotional ups and downs with regard to CC so far.  Today I'm on an up.  But they really aren't about counting calories - they're about being constipated or on a plateau.

I like the focus.

I had something similar happen to me and it was salt intake and constipation.  Too much salt from snacks and Chinese (the worst!) will make you retain fluids.  Also, when was the last time you visited the loo?  For an extended visit?  My weight went up 6 pounds in two days from these things.  I know keep an eye on my sodium each day as well as my calories and starting taking benefiber daily.  The 6 lbs are gone again and now I can focus on losing again.

Good luck,

Soobie

I'm trying #3 and shifting my calorie to 1350 then 1750 then 1450, etc.

I'm trying not to whine but it's frustrating that when we gain weight it's so simple -- we take in more calories than we expend.  But when we expend more than we take in it doesn't always seem to matter.  And, there are all of these new rules like only eat after 7 pm on Tuesday of a full moon.  Ugh!

Life's not fair!  LOL!

So, has anyone seen results of how each of the teams did last week?  I've been dealing with horrible constipation this past week and the scale is actually up a bit.  I'm hoping to get this in check before Tuesday because I should be down.

Also, I went out and used some of my "economic stimulus" check

Money mouth to buy myself a new bike.  I love it - so comfy - I'm ready to ride!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Health & Support Can constipation make me gain 6 pounds in 4 days?!? Jul 14 2008

Because of some other meds I'm on the pharmacist recommended miralax.  I've taken it twice so far and not much luck.  The first store I went to didn't have the tea so I'm to look again tomorrow.

So frustrating, and now, so uncomfortable.  I already drink plenty of coffee and eats lots of fruits and veggies.  I'm thinking of getting metamucil or something like that.  Any recommendations for one that will taste ok in crystal light?

Thanks for all of the advice so far.  I must say, this is one side effect I didn't think I'd deal with.  Sometimes it feels like no matter how hard we try there is something that gets in the way of being successful!  UGH!

Thanks for the advice -- this is day four of not going.  It's not painful I just don't need to go.  Probably wouldn't even have posted had my weight not been going up, up, up.  I am taking Iron for anemia so maybe that has something to do with it.  It's so discouraging though because I'm working hard and I want the scale to reward me!

I'm going to the grocery store soon to see what is available in the tea aisle and herbal supplements.

Not to be too personal, but do some of you actually go every day?

Weight Loss my friend lost 55 in 13 weeks and me only 20 lbs in 3 months:( Jul 10 2008

Weight loss like that sounds like she could have gotten the lapband procedure.  I now a person who took two days off from work and got the band inserted while she was out.  She came back on Monday and no one knew otherwise.  Not saying your friend did this but it's possible.  Also, maybe she's developed some unhealthy habits like using diaretics.  I guess my point is that no one really knows what other people do to lose weight.  We only know what they share with us.  So, chart your course and be happy with yourself when you make healthy choices.

I'm stoked!

Let's get this party started!  Here are some ideas for a team name:

Trendy ~ Team Irys (variation on the spelling of the purple flower)

Kooky ~ Team Barney (after the somewhat annoying, overweight dinosaur)

My pre-teen's suggestion ~ Purple Peeps

For Prince fans ~ Purple Reign (as in purple will reign supreme)

Wow!  I could have written this post myself!  I just "found" my bicycle too and am wondering why I haven't done this before?  I went on our bike path and was able to exercise for 65 minutes yesterday and about 55 today.  I'm amazed how much I enjoy it.  Now I need to go buy some accessories like a water bottle holder and some more comfortable grips.  You cover so much more ground on a bike so it really feels like I've accomplished something.

Cheers!
