Chirpp- Yeah, it's great that someone else on the forum has the same passions as I do!

All the time. Usually people don't say anything, but I get funny looks. I bet that your team mates just don't realize that they eat about the same amount. Most people don't really count calories after they exercise because they go home ravenous. Plus, active teenagers eat a lot without even noticing it. 3000 calories may sound like a big number, but if you want to be a successful athlete, then that's pretty much what you need to take in. We are really similar. I constantly challenge myself and get so frustrated when I don't do well. I work my butt off. I care what other people think of me. I worry that I'm eating too much and won't do well. I'm struggling through it, but the thing that you have to remember is that you can't compare your needs to someone else's (I should really listen to my own advice sometimes). Plus, you're eating more because you still need to gain. As long as you are doing well and not passing out, then you should feel confident and accept that it is where you should be right now. Every day at swimming, I compare myself to the other girls, but it ends up making me feel so much worse. I am endeavoring to stop doing this, but it is a process. I empathize with you. You just need to focus on getting healthy and doing the best YOU possibly can. I sincerely hope this helps! Feel free to message me any time!

Hi all! It's good to know that everyone is improving. Keep up the good work! Unfortunately, the past few days my body image issues have escalated. I'm not really sure why, but it has gotten so much worse. I've been trying to think positively about myself, but it has been very difficult.

Tears, Clay, and Chirpp: I'm an athlete too! I'm still young, but I swim almost every day of the week and run and bike when I'm not swimming or not injured (I've had many dislocations and broken bones). I love doing triathlons as well. 

 

LaLa- You'll be pleased to know that I had an appointment today with a new counselor. She was LIGHT YEARS better than my current one. She was so nice and empathetic. I will most definitely leave the old counselor and start treatment with the new one. Thanks for all your help!

Lala- Thanks again. I just am always beating myself up over little things and it drives my parents crazy. They can't understand why I do it. Every day is a battle in my mind. Oh well, I guess it'll just take some time.

Lala- Thank you so much for your amazing insight. You have my personality down pat. I have never had very much self-esteem, no matter how many times people give me compliments. I always think that they are lying to make me feel better. I am really trying to get through this, but I feel terrible about myself. I am endeavoring to like myself, but every time I think something positive, a little voice creeps into my head and tells me it's not true. I'm never satisfied with anything I do. Sorry to unload like this. Thanks for all your support and help.

Oh, and thank you for the link; it should prove very beneficial.

lala- Thanks. I've never really wanted to recover for myself. I just do it so my parents and younger siblings don't have to worry about it. I realize that if I want to get better, then I need to do it for myself, but if it didn't let people down, I would be starving myself again. My mom takes me to the appointments every week, and she has met the therapist. She does not like her any better than I do, but as we moved here a few months ago, we don't really know anywhere to look. We are trying to find a new therapist, but until we do I am stuck with the one I have now.

Hello everyone. I'm not sure if anybody remembers me or not; it's been about 4 months since I last posted. I moved about halfway across the country and my life has been so horrid and hectic I honestly haven't had the time to post. I am up to a perfectly healthy weight, but I feel so terrible about myself now. I hate the way I look, and I really want to lose weight, but I know I can't because with all the stress my parents are under, it would kill them. I also have an awful therapist that is cruel and the only reason I want to get better is to get away from her. My body image issues have reached a new level because my therapist is not helping, and I can't trust myself to look in the mirror anymore. My weight is healthy, but my mindset is exactly how it was when I first started recovery. I remembered today how much this website helped me before, so I decided to post again. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Aqua- Just keep up the good work! You're doing great!

Lala- I have the same problem. Right now I am afraid to socialize with other people, because I am afraid that they will stare at me and make rude comments. I also compare myself to other people. I do it every day when I see someone. I really need to stop it, because everyone's different.

I won't post for a while because I am moving tomorrow!!!! I am really nervous, but a little bit excited. I probably won't post until Saturday. Keep up the great work everyone!!!!

Hi everyone!!!! I am so excited!!!!!!!! The adolescent medicine doctor is letting me do sports!!!!!!!! Keep up the good work everyone!!!!

Aqua- I'm so sorry they aren't letting you do sports. *Hugs* That's how I've lived for the past few months too. Just keep trying and use the sports as motivation to gain weight. That's what I did. I completely understand. You're doing a great job!

Aqua- Thank you for all your help!!!!! I can't thank you enough!!! I see the adolescent medicine doctor tomorrow and hopefully I can get some exercise back in. You are doing so well and seeing your progress has really helped me. I hope you don't mind me asking, but do you play any sports?

I'll post tomorrow to tell you guys about the appointment. My fingers are crossed!!!!

Aqua- Thank you so much for your advice!!!! You are such an inspiration. I am scared to eat full fat dairy, but I might try to do it soon. I just hate the way I feel. I am so bloated and I think that I am fat because of it. Ugh, I hate ED!!!!!!!!

Hey everyone-

Well, my nutritionist said that I still need to gain more weight. She said that my goal weight before was the lowest weight that would keep me out of inpatient. I'm still a little freaked out because I'm relatively comfortable where I am right now. I see the adolescent medicine doctor on Tues. I really hope she will let me do sports becuase I really want to do a fall sport for school. I am moving to a new state in a week, and I have been going to a lot of going-away parties. They really stress me out becuase I usually have no idea what we are going to be eating. I have another one today and I can infer that we will be having pizza or hot dogs!!! :(

So far I have eaten...

Breakfast- 1/4 cup egg whites, 2 T Mozzarella cheese, W.W. mini bagel, 1 T blackberry jam

Snack- Strawberry Crumble Luna bar, granola bar

Lunch- W.W. pita, 1 oz turkey, 1 slice reduced fat provolone cheese, plum, peach

Hey everyone! You all are doing so great!!!! Sorry I havn't posted in so long!!!!! I went for my yearly check-up today and I reached my goal weight already! I don't know whether to be happy or to cry. I doesn't make much sense to me that I've gained so much weight because I have only been eating around 1800-2000 a day. I am seeing my dietician tomorrow and hopefully she will have some answers :) I don't know what to maintain on now, and I'm scared my dietician will keep my intake at about the same as it is now. I don't want to keep gaining, but I don't want to lose either. I am confused and really scared that I'll keep gaining weight. Today I only ate 1500 because my weight freaked me out. If anyone has any support or suggestions that would be greatly appreciated!!!

Peanut Butter- I know how you feel. I have been in recovery for 5 weeks now and I've gained 5 pounds, but my doctors still won't even let me do strength training at all. It really stinks because I want to be able to run and swim again. I am going to a new school this year, and I thought joining the cross country team would be a good way to meet people who have similar interests to me. I really don't know if I'll be able to do it though. :( Hang in there!

Hi-

I am so scared today. I have already been forced to eat at parties all week, but tonight I have to go to dinner at Cracker Barrel with my grandma! I really want to restrict all day, but I know I shouldn't. I hate being put in positions like this!!!

Thank you all so much!! Everyone is so supportive. This site has really helped me in my recovery!!!! It is really great to correspond with people who actually understand what fighting an ED is actually like.

Jessikkaa- I have always been very thin due to my genetics as well. (Both my parents are thin and HEALTHY) Thank you so much for your advice and inspiration.

Kate- Don't you just love cross country? It is my favorite sport, but right now I can't do it :( Life with ED just stinks. I am really hoping to be better by the fall! Thank you so much!

Aqua- I'm 5'4 but I havn't had a big growth spurt yet (courtesy of ED)!!! I should be around 5'8 or so when I grow more. I know, I havn't had a bagel in forever. It is scary to eat so much, but I am proud too.

Agruskin- It was a store bought bagel. It was actually a Thomas bagel. My nutritionist said that 1/3 of a bagel was a carb, so I usually split a bagel into thirds and eat it as part of my snack.

Britnie- I just started recovery as well and found that yogurt, protein bars such as Luna bars, and oatmeal prepared with milk are good things to eat. Also, nuts and nut butters are great to eat because they have HEALTHY fats and protein too. Good luck and remember to just keep trying!

Thanks so much!!!! I LOVE to run, bike, and swim. You sound just like me. I used to play basketball, but I hurt my knee so it wasn't really the best sport for me. I also got really into swimming and running. Your post was so inspiring. I am on bedrest right now and really hate it. I want to exercise again!!!!!!!!! I just hate it when I eat a lot and feel so bloated. Thanks for your advice. I just have to beat ED.

Aqua- Thanks!!!! I recently found this site and so far everyone has been so supportive. By the way, how tall are you?

Anyway...

Breakfast (290) -Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal -Small Banana -1/4 cup Egg Substitutes -Red. Fat Swiss Cheese (I know, I should be eating full fat!)

Snack (340) -2/3 of a cinnamon raisin bagel -Toasted Nuts'n Cranberry Luna Bar

Lunch (375) -Turkey and cheese on a tortilla -Broccoli -Apple -6 Almonds

Snack (420) -Plain Low fat yogurt -1/2 cup granola -I cup cantaloupe -2 tbsp raisins

So far, this is a really good day for me!!!! I didn't get to dinner yet, but I'll post when I do.

Thank you so much. I am seeing a dietician and counselor. I've only been seeing them for about a month. They are starting it off gradually so its easier for me. I will probably bump up the calories the next time I see the dietician, which is this week. It is so nice to have people who understand what I'm going through. I can always talk to my parents, but they don't understand my mindset!

Thanks! I am focusing on gaining right now,  but it is difficult with all the ED thoughts. It's really difficult because I stunted my growth through starvation and I've never got my period. I'm going through a rough time. Thanks again!
