Hey Sorry to revive this old thread, but I'm wanting to give up sugars and sweeteners and just wondered if it would be OK to continue eating natural sugars ie fruits, especially to begin with. Or should I go completely cold turkey on this and then introduce fruits back in??? Thanks :) |

I can totally relate and what I did was weaned myself off counting by looking at portion sizes and food groups based on www.mypyramid.gov Seriously, check it out. It really helped me to get a healthy relationship with food again and to be able to relax and socialise better. |

| Weight Loss | I am at a plataeu, and i just binged :( | Jan 28 2009 08:27 (UTC) |

Surely that's just eating up to your maintainance which is only 300-500 over what you eat to lose weight? I don't think that's a binge, honestly, if i've understood that right. Everyone has days where they eat slightly more, and I honestly doubt that it will have much effect on your weight at all. In fact, it might even give your metabolism a little kick up the rear and help you to lose weight and get over the plateau. You will be fine, don't worry about it! |

I had heard that you weren't supposed to lose, or aim to lose, more than 1% of your body weight per week...so I guess if you're over 300lbs then a weight loss of about 3lbs per week isn't too drastic. But I may be wrong. Just make sure you don't cut your calories drastically tho. Always make sure you're eating enough :) |

| Health & Support | QUESTIONS: How do you sleep? Please help me with my journal. | Jan 27 2009 21:25 (UTC) |

1. Well, I put my PJ's on the second I get in from Uni, and then before I go to bed (normally between 10pm and 1am on weekdays, early hours of the morning on weekends) I set my alarm for 7.30am the next day, brush my teeth, take off my makeup. Then I get a hot water bottle and a hot drink and snuggle down in bed and if I can, I love to read because I always find that helps me sleep better. I often lie on my bed with my legs stretched up against the wall for about 5mins too - its based on some kind of yoga technique which makes the blood run to your head kinda thing and it makes me SO sleepy. Then I curl up into a ball and off to dreamland! Normally I wake up a couple of times in the night, and recently, I seem to be waking up more or less 2 hours after falling asleep. But I haven't been sleeping well recently anyway (stress me thinks) 2. If I can't sleep, I often make myself a hot drink and a fresh hot water bottle. I do a lot of tidying as well because that's boring so it makes me sleepy :P Might watch TV (only really if there's tennis on tho) or read for a bit, or lie with my legs up the wall again. If it's really bad, I do take sleeping tablets. Tho recently, I have been taking herbal sleep remedies more often cos I'm having real difficulty sleeping. |

| Health & Support | Winter Depression!Please Help!! | Jan 27 2009 21:18 (UTC) |

Hiya! Just thought I'd offer a bit of support too. I have been suffering with depression for a little while now, and tho I'm not saying that in any way are you definitely depressed or anything, but these are a few of the things that help cheer me up if ever I get stuck in a rut of feeling low: Definitely try and get outside every day. The sun/natural light (even when it's cloudy) definitely helps, as does the fresh air. Just going for a walk helps. Music. When I was really feeling low, I found I lost interest in a lot of things, but now I'm feeling better, stuff like music and sport are a great distraction etc. Do something creative - if I'm stressed I ALWAYS bake :) But you could paint, draw, play music, sing etc...anything that allows you to get some feelings out in an expressive way is really useful I find. Write down how you feel in a journal or even just on a scrap of paper Do something new/you've never done before. Could be joining a new club or society, could be going to a restaurant with friends that you've never been to before. Doing something new is a definite way to just get a little bit of excitement back, no matter how big or small. And a big one - SOCIALISE. Whatever you do, try and spend as much time with people as you can, no matter how much you might want to just lock yourself in your room and hide under your duvet.
Hope something in that list might help. All the best xxx |

Wow I thought I was odd for doing that...glad to know I'm not as weird as I thought!!! Edit: oh, btw, can anyone suggest a good pasta sauce recipe cos whenever I use the chopped tinned tomatoes I always find its a bit bland so I sploosh a load of Lea and Perrins Worcester Sauce in there. Not that there is anything wrong with that of course! I love the stuff...but still... |

Yeah tbh I never have been one for alcohol anyway, but I gave it up completely because of my ED and not wanting to drink my calories amongst other things. So I feel that by having a few drinks with friends is a way of getting out of the ED mindset but it's definitely not something that I do on a regular basis or anything like that yknow :) But I defs think it may have had something to do with it...just having the munchies after a few drinks etc. |

Aww thanks Lala :) I'm actually not feeling too bad today now...not too fat and bloated and nasty. Even been out for a nice walk to clear my head after last night's antics. Was just good to get everything out my system by venting and sitting through the anxiety :) |

Hi guys Thank you ALL for your contributions, you have made me feel so much better. Just putting all my thoughts out there and having some reassurance from others has really helped my anxiety so thank you! Lala: Went to the doc on Thursday and got weighed. BMI is now 19.7 which I figured was very close to 20, but I guess I could still gain a little more just for safety. But I guess all us girlies have "fat days" and I guess that's what I'm going through right now which doesn't help things. But I'll get through it :) Doc said it was a good healthy weight too - she said she was very pleased to see me looking so healthy again :) |

I baked a cheesecake for my friend and I liked the bowl out! And we're talking full fat cream cheese, sugar, butter, eggs, chocolate etc... ED was screaming at me but rational mind won and said "My body needs fat because I don't have a period and my body needs calcium so stuff you ED!" Cheesecake was always my favourite before ED too. *Dances a happy dance* |

Maybe due to working out your body has lost fat and gained muscle, so because muscle weighs more than fat it looks like your weight has increased but, if you took measurements from you waist, hips etc. you might find that you have lost inches because your body is changing shape. Or it could be TTOM and so as it approaches that time your body retains water and some people gain up to 7lbs of water weight just before their period. Just my suggestions. Others may have more insights for you. Good luck, keep up the good work :) |

So when I'm all done on the Twilight books I'll get round to this one! |
