Hey

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I'm wanting to give up sugars and sweeteners and just wondered if it would be OK to continue eating natural sugars ie fruits, especially to begin with. Or should I go completely cold turkey on this and then introduce fruits back in???

Thanks :)

Surely that's just eating up to your maintainance which is only 300-500 over what you eat to lose weight? I don't think that's a binge, honestly, if i've understood that right.

Everyone has days where they eat slightly more, and I honestly doubt that it will have much effect on your weight at all. In fact, it might even give your metabolism a little kick up the rear and help you to lose weight and get over the plateau.

You will be fine, don't worry about it!

I had heard that you weren't supposed to lose, or aim to lose, more than 1% of your body weight per week...so I guess if you're over 300lbs then a weight loss of about 3lbs per week isn't too drastic. But I may be wrong. Just make sure you don't cut your calories drastically tho. Always make sure you're eating enough :)

Health & Support QUESTIONS: How do you sleep? Please help me with my journal. Jan 27 2009

1. Well, I put my PJ's on the second I get in from Uni, and then before I go to bed (normally between 10pm and 1am on weekdays, early hours of the morning on weekends) I set my alarm for 7.30am the next day, brush my teeth, take off my makeup. Then I get a hot water bottle and a hot drink and snuggle down in bed and if I can, I love to read because I always find that helps me sleep better. I often lie on my bed with my legs stretched up against the wall for about 5mins too - its based on some kind of yoga technique which makes the blood run to your head kinda thing and it makes me SO sleepy. Then I curl up into a ball and off to dreamland! Normally I wake up a couple of times in the night, and recently, I seem to be waking up more or less 2 hours after falling asleep. But I haven't been sleeping well recently anyway (stress me thinks)

2. If I can't sleep, I often make myself a hot drink and a fresh hot water bottle. I do a lot of tidying as well because that's boring so it makes me sleepy :P Might watch TV (only really if there's tennis on tho) or read for a bit, or lie with my legs up the wall again. If it's really bad, I do take sleeping tablets. Tho recently, I have been taking herbal sleep remedies more often cos I'm having real difficulty sleeping.

Health & Support Winter Depression!Please Help!! Jan 27 2009

Hiya!

Just thought I'd offer a bit of support too. I have been suffering with depression for a little while now, and tho I'm not saying that in any way are you definitely depressed or anything, but these are a few of the things that help cheer me up if ever I get stuck in a rut of feeling low:

Definitely try and get outside every day. The sun/natural light (even when it's cloudy) definitely helps, as does the fresh air. Just going for a walk helps.

Music. When I was really feeling low, I found I lost interest in a lot of things, but now I'm feeling better, stuff like music and sport are a great distraction etc.

Do something creative - if I'm stressed I ALWAYS bake :) But you could paint, draw, play music, sing etc...anything that allows you to get some feelings out in an expressive way is really useful I find.

Write down how you feel in a journal or even just on a scrap of paper

Do something new/you've never done before. Could be joining a new club or society, could be going to a restaurant with friends that you've never been to before. Doing something new is a definite way to just get a little bit of excitement back, no matter how big or small.

And a big one - SOCIALISE. Whatever you do, try and spend as much time with people as you can, no matter how much you might want to just lock yourself in your room and hide under your duvet.

Hope something in that list might help. All the best xxx

RAT

What is your favourite variety of cheese? Extra Mature Cheddar

Rats are usually tied in with unsanitary conditions. What is your worst memory relating to food hygiene? Uh...our flat's kitchen is usually a complete state so food hygiene standards in there generally are pretty appalling! Ahh the life of a Uni student...

OX

What is your favourite preparation of beef - or beef flavoured product? N/A - don't eat meat

Oxen are commonly used for manual labour purposes. What’s your favourite thing to eat after a hard day’s work, or an exam, or a long study or workout session, etc? PORRIDGE!

TIGER

Tiger, tiger, burning bright, famous for it’s vibrant stripes. What is the most colourful thing you’ve eaten? Jelly made up of lots of different coloured layers and flavours :) Seriously have a jelly obsession going on right now

Would you ever hunt for your food, whether meat or foraging? Have you already? Wouldn't hunt, but would probably go scavenging for some fruit, veg or nuts or something

RABBIT

What’s your favourite preparation of carrots? I really like grated raw carrot

Would you eat a rabbit? Nope. 1. Because they're cute and 2. because my mum when she was younger always wanted a pet rabbit, and her parents wouldn't let her, and instead her mum decided it would be a good idea to cook her a rabbit stew and make her eat it. And i thought that was mean. :(

DRAGON

How spicy do you like your food? Not very, if at all

How well-done do you like your foods? Fan of burnt toast, perhaps? I don't like overcooking things at all - especially vegetables and the like! But the smell of burnt toast can be quite nice sometimes...

SNAKE

What is your worst memory relating to food poisoning? My mum on holiday having a pizza with some kind of meat/chicken topping and being sick for days. I personally have never had food poisoning tho - touch wood!

Ever swallowed anything whole that you wouldn't normally? Uh...an oyster? Tho I think you're meant to eat them like that...I dunno

HORSE

Horse is considered a delicacy in some countries but taboo in many others. Would you eat horse? Non. I wouldn't have done even when I used to eat meat

What’s your favourite preparation of oats? Porridge. Obviously :P

RAM

Are you a fan of goat’s cheese or milk? How about ewe’s? Quite like goat's cheese, but only had it on a couple of occasions. Never had goat's milk or anything tho.Sheep milk and cheese is awesome tho.

Goats are known to eat pretty much anything. What’s the most random thing you have ever consumed - even if you weren’t supposed to eat it? Haven't a clue. There's probbers something tho

MONKEY

How do you like your bananas? Mashed with CUSTARD

Monkey brain is a Chinese delicacy. What is the most vile part of an animal you have consumed, or seen for sale? Watching I'm a celebrity get me out of here (trash TV, but Ant and Dec make it funny! You'll understand if you're from UK) and they made them eat kangaroo testicles. Not nice.

ROOSTER

Are you an advocate of free-range poultry rearing, or do you not care? Free Range all the way! Go Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall and Jamie Oliver!

Considering many chickens are corn-fed, how do you best like to use corn in cooking? Does popcorn count???

DOG

Dogs can tolerate a lot of foods but are extremely sensitive to others. Do you have foods you can’t stomach - literally? Anything greasy or oily makes me feel very queasy and I get indigestion

What is a balanced diet to you? Lots of fruit and veggies, some fish and shellfish, some low fat dairy and also porridge and cereals. Of course with lots of treats in there too - you have to be able to splurge!

PIG

Despite being well-mannered creatures, “pig” has far too many negative connotations. What food, cuisine, celebration or otherwise, do you stop counting for? Spanish food - paella! And Christmas

What’s your favourite preparation of pork - or a pork flavoured product? N/A. I always used to LOVE sausages tho -esp pork and apple ones

Yeah tbh I never have been one for alcohol anyway, but I gave it up completely because of my ED and not wanting to drink my calories amongst other things. So I feel that by having a few drinks with friends is a way of getting out of the ED mindset but it's definitely not something that I do on a regular basis or anything like that yknow :) But I defs think it may have had something to do with it...just having the munchies after a few drinks etc.

But I guess all us girlies have "fat days" and I guess that's what I'm going through right now which doesn't help things. Maybe due to working out your body has lost fat and gained muscle, so because muscle weighs more than fat it looks like your weight has increased but, if you took measurements from you waist, hips etc. you might find that you have lost inches because your body is changing shape.

Or it could be TTOM and so as it approaches that time your body retains water and some people gain up to 7lbs of water weight just before their period.

Just my suggestions. Others may have more insights for you. Good luck, keep up the good work :)

So when I'm all done on the Twilight books I'll get round to this one!
