I like doing things in smaller portions, so you give people the option to just have a very small amount or to try several different things.  I like to do cheese cake bites.  You can get the filling in a tub if you want, or you can make it, and just follow the graham cracker crust recipe, and make them in mini-muffin pans rather than making a big cake.  You can get fruit topping and/or drizzle a little chocolate.  Always a hit.

I used to be a total gym rat--I was absolutely militant and refused to take a day off. I had a running schedule and a lifting schedule... you name it, I had it planned.

Now, I power walk 45-60 minutes a day Monday through Friday, and have 45 minutes of ballet two or three times a week.

I'm actually seeing more results now.  And I'm a happier person who gets more sleep.

A note on the FMLA--my mother works for a small office also, FMLA does not apply when less than 50 employees are involved unless it's a public agency.

Girl, he just did you a favor.  I know it still hurts, but think how much more it would've hurt a few months down the road, or even after a few dates that you thought were going well.  I get tired of hearing it, but I'm going to type it anyway... He's out there, and you'll find each other.

Oh, yes, I know what you're talking about!  I've just started telling people I'd love to go with them, but I'm broke.  That seems to help.  I have had a few offers to buy my lunch, though, or dinner...

Update:  Thanks for the responses.  Doc says it's probably related to some hard-core itching I had last week or so after switching detergent, but I'm to keep an eye out for it and I'm to run, not walk, in if they show back up.

First of all, good for you for starting out on your way to being a better wife and mommy, and hopefully, a happier person.  The psychological impact of giving something up is not to be underestimated, nor the emotional toll.  You had a routine, for all intents and purposes, you had a relationship.  It's over now.  You're mourning.

Build yourself a new routine.  Be consistent with it.  Be patient with yourself.  Use your bedroom for only sleep and sex, and when you're trying to sleep, keep it as dark and distraction-free as humanly possible.  Oh. also, it's best to avoid bathing/showering/exercise a few hours before bed.  And personally, I sleep better after a little low-fat cheese snack and some diet cranberry juice.

I don't know how helpful this is going to be, but when I read this post, it reminded me of a recent epiphany, if you will.  I think that whether trying to lose weight or gain weight, the worst thing we can do for ourselves, psychologically, is place restrictions on our diet.  In this time, in this place, where we are fortunate enough to have access to pretty much everything, the best we can do in my opinion is to eat what we need, when we need it, in the proper portions.

Terribly generic, I know, but hopefully it helps a little.

We always have butternut squash with our Thanksgiving dinner.  There are a TON of ways to prepare it.  I tend to prefer the butter and brown sugar method (not so healthy), but type it into a search engine and see what looks good.

About your location... I feel your pain.  I'm in rural WV.  Whenever I go on vacation, I make it a point to stop at several international markets and stock up on things for six months or a year at a time.  It's a little extreme, but it works.  Also, I've found that certain grocery stores are willing to try ordering a product you recommend to see if there is broader interest.  I've requested several Thai food products here, as well as some food allergy friendly items; nearly all of the things I've requested I can find locally now.  It's definitely worth trying.

To me, it really sounds like she's tired.  Doing something else after school would probably just result in a bigger meltdown at the end of the day.  I think she might just need some down time.  Does she have a place at home where she can putt-putt around and do her own thing?  Aside from a really long day, another thing she's picking up in kindergarten is a little independence.

This is a new routine for her, I'm guessing, and while kids can do better with change than adults, it still effects them.

Instant, violent vomiting sounds like food poisoning to me.  Could be a bug, though.  Are you familiar with the BRAT diet?  That's where you need to be the next few days (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast).  Only eat if you're feeling up to it, but get some gatorade and some ice chips and try to stay hydrated.

Feel better!

Girl, you can do it!  I started it at 175, and wish I'd done so sooner.  It's not particularly demanding as exercise routines go, so honestly, if you don't have trouble walking down the street and jogging through the intersections, you'll probably be fine.  Make sure you've got good shoes.  Maybe talk to your doc to see if there's any idea what can be done about your knee.  Maybe a brace?  Maybe strengthening the area will help?  The doctor generally knows these things.  Or maybe, if there's a trainer available at your local gym, he or she can give you some insight.

Both of my parents have really bad joints, and with the exception of my hip, I seem to have escaped that fate for now, but here's what I can tell you about that.  If you're going to have to get a knee replacement at 40, you're going to have to get a knee replacement at 40 (okay, my dad was 50 for his, but his youngest brother was 35, middle brother was 43, and they've all had both knees done).  If it's not disabling, might as well do whatever you want.  That's just my take on it, though.

Wow, congrats on the weight loss!  That's no small feat.  Well, when I was in the 190s (I'm a bit shorter than you, though), I was eating about 1500 calories in a day.  I think that in the one instance where you had worked out quite a lot in one day, you were probably short a few calories for the day.  I LOVED the 30 day shred, I did it this winter when it was too cold to be outside.  Good luck to you!

I lost weight SUPERFAST when I was heavier.  Now I struggle for every pound, and I'm still overweight, so I don't know what gives.  The more you weigh, the more calories you burn just by carting yourself around, I know that much.  Major congrats on the lost poundage!

144 isn't the stopping point, just a short term goal, which will have me in the high end of healthy according to the all-knowing *snort* BMI.  I have to be up early in the AM, so I'm a little short-winded for now, but hopefully I'll see you all around really soon!

I usually make fruit salad.  And I feel your pain about the potluck.  Aside from counting calories, I also have a number of food allergies, and this often makes me feel very left out and very anxious about the event.  Just use your head, remember portions, portions, portions.  You can do this.

Dear God, I could've written that OP.  I'm in the same boat.  24, no serious boyfriend since 18 or 19--all of it, and the topic has reduced me to tears (albeit private ones) more than once.  I've begun to think I'm destined to be alone, though everyone assures me that once you give up on it, it happens.

So, at the risk of sounding cliche, I think we just have to believe that what's meant to be will happen; not necessarily on our timetable.

I'm having a really stressful week, too.  I haven't been eating well and I've not been to the gym once--and I don't think I'll make it at all this week.  I don't really know what to do about all the stress, other than to try to just rise above.  I did get some diet A&W, which will hopefully lift my spirits some.  I'm also going to cuddle with my cat.
