Weight Loss ideas to prevent boredom eating? Nov 24 2009

I am also having the same problem and thought that I might try doing a short workout after dinner, something like the 30 day shred DVD, to occupy some of my time.

It is not a long workout but enough to get my mind into the idea that I have just done a work out and I do not want to negate that by eating!!  Hopefully it will help but I like the idea of doing somehting with my hands, maybe I will start making some of my own jewellry?

Good morning

As I live 30 minutes from the US border, I sometimes go over to shop on Black Friday.  I am seriously thinking about it this year as the Cdn dollar is doing so well....but maniac shoppers really press on my nerves!!!!  Hard to decide sometimes if  it is worth it or not....

Someone haz motivation, plz?

Sending motivation your way!!!!  Think of the bills you can get paid cause you did not take the day off sick!!  And maybe you can infect the co-workers that you do not like!!!

I live in Ottawa, Canada and we have not had snow yet, but I am sure it is going to hit us with a big bang due to the fact that we have been enjoying really warm weather, well warm for us for this time of year!!!

Keep up the good work!!

Motivation Quitting Smoking and Weight Gain Aug 07 2009

6

I quit last year after 20+ years of smoking and it can be done without weight gain.  The above ideas all are good ideas.  The walks after dinner (a trigger time for me) really worked.  Another tip is to brush your teeth after eating if that is a trigger time for you.  I did for the first few weeks replace the cig's with mints, but stopped that after 1 month.

They say you can burn up to 200 caloires a day just by smoking so you need to increase your exercise or cut back your eating so that you can accomodate the additional calories and I found that the additional walk worked for me.

If you trust him then it is your issue and you need to show him that you do trust him by not freaking out.

I would not advise taking her aside and saying anything to her because then she might get worse as she knows it bugs you!!!

Fitness What kind of Heart Rate Monitor should I get?? Jun 30 2009

I have to agree with karozel. I bought a Polar F-6 and am really pleased.

Make sure you properly input your age, height, weight etc when you first get it and it will properly calculate the calories burned when exercising.  At least that is what i have found with mine.

Weight Loss Need advice - losing weight and quitting smoking Jun 25 2009

From the research I did, I found out that smoking can burn up to 200 calories a day (smoking speeds up your heart rate) so that even if you eat the same and exercise the same amount as when you were smoking,  eventually you will gain some additional weight.

I quit last May, and was fairly strict with the diet and the exercise and did not gain weight.  I did up the exercise a bit to compensate for the extra calories burned previously while smoking either by intensity or duration and sometimes both.    I did for the first month have a bit of an addiction to mints but I stopped that after the first month when I also stopped using the patch.

Find out the times when you really crave a smoke (after dinner for me) and do something, like go for a walk, to take your mind off it.  I also quit drinking alcohol (for approx 6 months) when I quit.

It can be done if you want it  badly enough.  Good luck!!!

Fitness Winter (Sorry) Excersize? Jun 22 2009

I  also live in Canada/Ontario so I can relate.  Skating, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, etc are good winter exercises.

Of course anything at the gym (spinning classes since you seem to like your bike) when it is really nasty out or you do not have access to a place to do these outdoor winter sports is a good idea.

Are you sure that Trista is really your "friend"?    Why would she tell you this to start with?  Is she jealous of your realtionship, does she just want to start trouble?  Why would she want to hurt you even if it is couched in the thought of not wanting you to get hurt?

Trust your gut instinct, it is usually right!!

Skipping rope = excellent cardio workout, nothing needed except enough space to skip and does not take up very much room in the suitcase!!!  You might try some resistance bands also.
