take it up to 1800, any less than plus 200 cals you won't see a difference.

if it's said that then go for it, see what happens, do you still loose weight, if not maybe 1600 works better for your individual, but as i said you can never truely tell your doing the right thing until you speak to your doctor about your plans

yays you use metric :P

it's fast but you've said you feel fine so just keep an eye on it, your not going under your minimal daily intake are you?

i loose and gain weight really fast as well, so i put it down to me retaining water differently, i went from 42kg to 57kg in 3-4 weeks :P recovering an eating disorder! it wasn't fluctuations because ive been maintaining for 3 months now and no changes.

i realise it wasn't healthy but i ssoooo wasn't eating enough for it to be real fat, my body probably just wanted the weight back on i guess.

before you go on any weight loss scheme you should always speak to your doctor (i had permission to gain that 15kg) they know whats healthy and can monitor any problems and give great advice to suit your needs, remember you can't put a price on your health :)

i'd say it sounds all connected, my ED was connected to my depression - which had all these symptoms.

i saw a phsycologist and she helped alot, i took st John wart's anxiety tablets and i found i was more relaxed, they're herbal, or you could ask for full-swing anti-depressants.

this helped me sleep and feel better, and more positive, and so i was able to beat my eating disorder, :) yays for me :)

you know there's a problem there you now just need to see someone about it, talk about it, straighten everything out and get yourself feeling on top of things! if your binging you might want to go see someone specialising in binging disorders?

i understand as a student your budget may be low, but your can't put a price on your health let your close relaives and friends, know, maybe they can help either finacially (parents or partner) and/or emotionally

good luck :)

bella sweetie i hope your well with the ED :)

now like the first post said you should try to eat a variety or your really not getting your body healthy by that much.

encorperate PB into your meals, satay chicken, mix it in with oatmeal, a sandwhich, toast, satay stir fry, dip fruit and stuff into it etc.

don't deprive yourself by telling yourself your going to limit your PB intake, your gaining weight are you not? so don't worry too much, just make sure your getting all the other nutrients for your own sake. don't keep them from your body, your body won't function fully healthy if your diet doesn't include a variety.

best wishes xoxo Holly

edit: ps i think eating when you are hungry is the right way to go, but by timing things, we get hungry on a certain schedule.  our bodies become used to it.  my daughter thinks she is supposed to eat on a certain schedule even if she just ate 2 hours earlier-- which i think is very wrong.  go with your body and whatever schedule works for you.

i agree with that i couldn't stomach a dinner after 8 though or earlier than 5, i suppose it just depends on the person

very interesting.......and most of these meal times are based around work it seems, as im on holidays and my high school has very good times, im able to eat when hungry, it just seems there is no 'normal' time, people's hunger can vary quite a bit, and i'd also depend on how big your meals are....

no johnny it doesn't mean a healthy kid can eat junk all the time, but they should be allowed to consume things in moderation. i suppose that could be something at home, i just see it a little annoying that their opportunity is taken away. but in general it is a really good thing for primary schools, they should do it in high schools too, most kids i know skip breakfast to have chocolate throughout the day.....i never use the canteen anyway though, but they also are wanting to replace it with healthier option rather than take away the whole canteen. which is even better, ill save moderation for home. but so far its only in some public schools.

i don't particularly like my peanut butter oily so i use the %25 fat free or whatever it is (extra crunchy :P ) i was just curious if it were possible for things all over the place to be changed to healthier option, but really what they need to do (starting with the big brands) is legally limit the amount of added sugars etc. lol sorry did i give you the impression i had an allergy :) i was curious if there was a way to get away from this mad world and it's obsession with processed junk

but with the enamel layer, its wear and tear, so brushing you teeth too often, hard or for too long can wear it down too. like i said it happens as you get older anyway. maybe a liquid mouth wash as well each day to help clean everything out, i use listerine :)

lol!

well if your looking after your teeth and no one is saying any different i can't see a problem. if you have dentist check ups when you need to (once a year or something??!?!?) he'd pick something up if you were excessive, which it doesnt seem like you are.

Weight Loss I want a summer body! help Jan 18 2009

ohh! originally i thought you meant like a tan or something :)

yeah im genetically ghost white! its creepy, my face and forearms are ok, but seriously, my parents are both from england and like never go outside!

lol yeah drift really covered it excellently, you dont mind if i copy and paste that for furthur use?

i also agree with aiming, a summer body suggests fit for the beach, so toning would be sexy :P if your going out in a bikini being confident will be another thing that will be important, no matter how much you loose just be happy with the body your in, dont loose the weight just to be slim and look good for (the guys lol) and summer, loose it because you are unhealthy and want to be healthy, love yourself reguardless

good luck :)

i have heard that any acidic kind of thing can wear down your enamel layer but it does that naturally over the years anyway.

it not lemons, just the 'acid' all acidic foods would be like that, you can't completely avoid it, personally i wouldn't worry.

do you brush your teeth?floss? (lol now i sound like mum)

how many cups do you have on average?

hahahhahah label whore!

i agree, and i read somewhere that sugar is addictive, like physically as in similar ways to people get addicted to alcohol or smoking. which is why the big names make huge moneys, people keep coming back for more, so they can afford to make their food cheaper and that their food would be proccessed by machines and/or labour, while freash stuff is farmed (if your lucky locally) and has more effort and are run by people with less money.

if my family is going to have a cake, we home-bake it and it's lovely, we all love cooking; it's fun and forfills your curiousity and cravings for the food letting you savour it properly. we buy silly 'convenience' stuff too *sigh*

it comes down to choice, but i know what you mean, it's creepy. america has the most amount of overweight people but i've heard australia has a higher percentage (having a much smaller population) and we have some health campaigns in schools. they are taking unhealthy foods out of kid's canteens :( i dont see why the healthy kids should suffer though...

our government is making an effort, thats all it needs, i also heard they are thinking about putting calorie values on everything in resturaunts as well as supermarkets, i personally dont think everyone should know or care unless you need to.

more than anything companies want enhanced flavour that people crave, which was a big mistake, and now there is too much varity to change anything :(

does swapping something like peanut butter to almond spread/butter make a difference, or even if you start shopping at the 'health food store' (you know..people with allergies) or are they just as bad?

we have 2 indoor cats, they cute :P

they both used to bite at and climb up the christmas tree. then sleep on top of the nativity scene as if they were baby jesus :)

know what time we are expected home from school and wait by the door

start bothering us if we stay up to late and almost try to draw us to bed so as they can sleep on top of us!

my cat also opens the bathroom door and meows at me

plays with the button on our shirts and strings off our bags etc. and they're suppose to be full grown adults :P

yeah, they adorable

Original Post by holbee:

my guess is that it was a natropath?? they have some pretty crazy ideas (lol) like ceritan diets for certian blood types (yuck!)

That's a pretty insulting comment.  I have both friends and family who are naturopaths.  In "real" medical school doctors get a couple hours of nutrition information in their entire training.  It barely even registers.  Naturopaths take numerous courses on food, nutrition, herbs, vitamins etc, and I would never suspect a naturopath of making a statment such as the one made by the OPs doctor.  They believe in treating the patient, not just sticking a band aid on the problem, and this includes carefuly examining the patients diet and lifestyle.  My cousin who is in school now to be a naturopath has finally started taking a range of vitamins for her health, all under the guidence of her naturopath.  MY doctor, when I mentioned i was concerned about bone loss in my family, suggested taking TUMS.  TUMS are calcium carbonate and can cause kidney stones; calcium citrate (with D) is much more easily utalized by our body.

Not all naturopaths suscribe to the eat right for your blood type mentality, although if you read the book there is some interesting scientific data supporting the theory.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I think the statement about naturopaths was uneducated and I wanted to correct that assumption.  And as much as people say "Go to your doctor," most MD's don't have a solid background in nutrition.  Its just not considered important in med school.

im rreeally sorry you found that offensive (no sarcasm) it's just from the impression i've been given by people, their theorys are unique and not of normal practise. you are more likely correct, i was just putting the suggestion out there in a way that was a bit too confident :) sorry. personally the certian blood type diet is something my family is fighting to put me on and i hate the idea of it, it's depriving me as a growing teenager. i respect them as normal people don't get me wrong i just am against some of their theories, im probably more correct in saying im against my parent's stupidity; taking me off wheat and dairy :( i should probably say sorry again and kinda thank you for ridding me of my bias towards their profession :)

sweetie, im 5 foot 4, 14 just as you are and my doctor as told me to maintain at 125...

i do think your being a bit unrealistic. your growing, the last thing you should do to your body is reverse that! even being at the low end of health has it's health risks.

especially for your height i bet your darn smexy ^^ and judging by what i can see of your photo you look great!

if its the whole ' my stomach dont look good naked' i mean who thinks they do look good naked!! even people sufferring eating disorders and celebrities aren't happy with themselves.

the facts say your healthy, your self-confidence is a different thing all together, anyone, especially developing teenagers should see a doctor/consellor/parent before event thinking about dieting.

the only reason anyone should want to loose weight si to be healthy and as i said, the facts say you are, so just enjoy life to the full!

115 is definately too low for you and that 'little bit more' isn't a healthy idea either, just have a healthy relationship with your body and trust that you look great, your harshest judge is yourself!

i understand you intentions are good but please don't do it without any supervision (doctor), theres no need to do it at all, so why strain your young beautiful growing body, its not worth the stress or effort.

btw you are still growing, even if your confinced that as yound as 14 youve stopped growing (so not true all the adults i know had their major spurts in late teens) there is still internal growth i.e bones (which btw will mean weight gain) don't take away what you body is trying to build, be happy wiht what youve got, theres not reason not too! only dangerous overweight kids with serious issues should try to loose weight and even then its under a doctor;s watchful eyes, only your doctor knows whats best for your individual self, not you.

edit: btw i just checked, your BMI is the same as mine and im not fat nor 'would i look better' if i lost any weight (which my doctors told me i shouldnt) i don't care what anyone else thinks looks good im only interested in how i feel, why else would a perfectly healthy person want to loose weight? im perfectly healthy and am not thinking about loosing weight because i think i look and feel grea and dont care whether people might think my dress lookes bloated :)

Health & Support Osteoarthritis at 24??? Jan 15 2009

arthiritis did you say?!?!?

very strong in my family, i'm definately on the list for it ^^ my mother got 'rumatoid' (totally spelt wrong) arthiritis when she was only 21, no crash or anything i dont think.

now osteo is bones, normal arthiritis is like muscle or ligament i believe, same basic idea i suppose. but yes, it is belieable that you have it, im guessing your doctor is expressing his concerns in damage done to your bones, look after them and avoid other accidents/injuries i suppose.

did he say to take (which ever bone had the impact) it easy and look after yourself for a while to avoid further problems?

my mum's condition has gotten worse over the years as she's continued to well....just simply move about, wear and tear i suppose. doesn't mean you should stop living your life and letting it get in the way.

now what helps???! dunno there are definately tablets and injections around and about if you asked the right doctors and people if it gets worse. i mean if you were younger and i could asume your bones were still growing i'd suggest ensuring proper calcium intake to help it repair itself.

but im not your doctor and i dont know the details of it, from my mum's experience, it is believable, makes sense, depending on your condition it can either be treated or get worse (and you numben the pain as my mum does, remembering hers is seriously severe). return to your doctor and express concerns about your future :)

good luck, dont let it stress you, theres nothing you know you can do :)
