| Health & Support | Provera pill | Oct 04 2009 09:15 (UTC) |

Hey - provera for 10 days once every 2-3 months is not known to cause weight gain or have really any adverse side effects because that is such a short period of time to be taking it. I have read about all the scary stories of weight gain while on provera too, but most of them are with people who take that hormone for a long duration of time/more frequently. Try looking at other things that could be causing the extra hunger. Ask your gyno too what is wrong. Maybe he/she will have other suggestions.
For now just watch your intake and try to plan out your meals so you don't eat off of impulse in order to control the extra hunger you're feeling right now. |

| Weight Loss | ONLY TEN POUNDS TO GO and losing motivation | Aug 27 2009 07:10 (UTC) |

YES exercise! Focus on this short term goal. Visualize it. Visualize yourself being how you have watned to be for so long. You can do it. I know it gets frustrating to do the treadmil, elliptical, etc so much, but keep pushing. Do less time on each machine and supplement that with other activites that really raise your heart rate, like spinning as one user suggested above. You can do this. Keep at it!! |

hey guys .. thank you for being so responsive. I appreciate it so much. I really feel so trapped in my habits and this new body that I don't recognize. michelle - thanks for being so thoughtful and taking the time to write that to me. I appreciate it and you are right. I am critical of myself, but I feel as though I failed myself too. so, it is hard for me to reconcile with the fact that I need to accept myself but also dicipline myself. It is a weird paradigm.
applemilk- I may be eating more than usual, yes. I am not sure if there is anything medically wrong. I have to go to the GP tomorrow because I have been under the weather so maybe i can \ask them to weigh me and do some tests? Do they let you get weighed at the health services at universities?
bri= i know, you are right. I have been running long distances with only 1-2 speed work outs a week. Maybe i need to start running distance in the AM and then work hard, short and fast in the afternoon.
caludb- omg, thank you for posting. i feel what you said really describes what i am doing. i do reach for a snack even when i am not hungry.. i am an emotional eater (as michelle pointed out). I know it can be fixed, but i am worried I cant do it. I have been failing in all these areas of my life that i never failed in before, and i am afraid this might be another one. I am trying but at the same time i know in my head i am not trying with all my heart. It is weird, you'd think since i am so upset with my body that iwould be 110 percent committed...this is something i should try and figure out and fast.
vwiggins - thank you - i pinpointed that i eat nuts a bit, and these are high in calorie. I also eat a lot of cream cheese, so after this tub i am not buying anymore. I also spoke to my roommate and she said she'd split a scale with me so that will show the true gains.. and im scared headybrew-nope, not pregnant. thank you though, lol. it would not be possible at this point. i am still open to suggestiions if anyone cares to share them. I respond well to tough-love. |

I generally will eat yogurt - just grab a spoon and its a good on-the-go meal. Add a banana or piece of fruit and this would make a light, but portable meal. |

Run! Yes - it does great things for your mind and body. Its not obsessive to run every day or every other day if that is part of your exercise routine. It's a great workout and makes you feel accomplished when you see improvements in your stamina/speed. Good luck ! |

just a suggestion - if you want to enjoy some things while dieting, maybe try to have them in smaller amounts but more frequently (once every two weeks? - you can decide what your caloric allowance allows). Also, with the kool aid, there are other amazingly tasting drinks out there that are light or low calorie and taste good - try em! |

how long are you taking them for? If its only for like 7 days or 10 days its really not a big deal - nothing permanetely will happen to you or your body. Dont worry you can do it! It is for the best. And once you are done with these few weeks, you can go and enjoy your summer even more! |

thank you for responding i appreciate the tips. Cutting out refined carbs will be tough but i do know that i started eating more of them and then gained weight so maybe that will help. Question - what constitutes a refined carb and how do you get filled up otherwise? I mean, my snacks are usually granola or rice cakes b/c they fill me up after eating a lot of them. I try fruit for a snack but it doesnt cut it. What should i snack on (esp at night?) thanks again! |

| Fitness | How do I mend shin splints? | Jun 27 2009 01:50 (UTC) |

ice them after working out b/c they get inflammed after using them. also consider taking what runners call an "ice bath" - it's literally what it sounds like you fill up a tub with cold water and a boat-load of ice and sit in it. It hurts a lot b/c its so cold but this is a great way to help your legs (and shin splints) recover after using them, which in turn can help you work thru the pain and not lose momentum. someone mentioned your running sneakers- great point! If you have been using the same ones for a while its time for a new pair that better supprts you. run on soft surfaces (like grassy fields or a dirt path) to cushion yourself - take a break from teh pavement or tredmil which is sometimes a litte harsh on the legs. And as for water during HITT - i wouldnt drink too much b.c that is how you can get side sticches, but that is just my personal opinion. |

hey - im sorry you are so frustrated. that is how i feel all the time. If you have only been undereating and exercising ths mmuch for a little bit, dont worry you can get right back on track! Checking for your thyroid seems sily, but just do it - get a blood test for a variety of things (the doc will know which things if you tell her/him what your issue is) - at least then you can rule out some things when youget the results. good luck and keep at it! |

gglad you will listen to the doc. I had surgery and couldnt run for about 3 weeks and I was totaly flipping out. I should have watched my calories, and Ididnt ...but guess what- at the end, I ended up losing weight! Go figure. I think it was muscle/my body using energy to repair itself. AND when I started back runnning, I did not even lose my endurance. It took about 3-4 days and I felt like the same ole me. I hope this little anecdote of mine keeps your spirits and hopes high for when you are done recuping! |

| Weight Loss | I would rather not eat at night but there is a problem | Jun 09 2009 05:28 (UTC) |

hey -i thnk eating at night is only bad if you go over your calorie limit. Also, choose the right foods. Often times night time eating involves poor choices because we are tired after a long and stressful day. If you have a lot of control like it seems you do, you should be fine eating at night. And if you want a rule, make it later like 9 or 10pm to give yourself a chance to get home, shower, and make dinner so it doesnt feel like a rushed "chore" to get out of the way.
good luck with dancing- i think its great you found a passion and are pursuing it. |

| Maintaining | how do i increase my calorie intake without gaining weight? | Mar 31 2009 20:25 (UTC) |

I would say to expect weight gain. I was on a lower calorie diet and now for about 3 months I upped my calories and I have seen a 9lb gain as of today. The weight hasnt come off, I run every single day...still waiting i suppose. Just a forewarning. Ultimately, it wasnt good for me to eat that little so maybe we have to accept the weight gain as a sconsequence of our previous actions--but i, and prob you--dont want to :( |

| Motivation | i just cant seem to do it... | Mar 21 2009 23:41 (UTC) |

thank you all for the concern. my point mainly is that i have bad
eating habits and that i have gained 5 lbs so easily when i runevery
sngle day for practice. I never used to gain weight at all, never had
to wrory. it concerns me that i can gain 5 lbs when i exercise as much
as i ever will. unfortunately, its not muscle... i am quite unmuscular,
as it is the joke of my team that i never seem to build signifcant
muslce. If anything, that muslce would be .5lbs... it has impacted the
way i feel. after hard workouts, my legs hurt so much, probably from
the extra weight they are not used to holding. and since i have alwasy
been the same weight without restriction or too much exercise ( i dont
do anything more than what im told to do for practice), there is no
reason i shouldnt be naturally at my -5lbs weight. its is due to my
eating and snacking excessively taht put these unnecessary pounds on i dont like the way i eat -i snack all the time. its not healthy the way i do it. i eat late, etc. i know these are the problems that i can solve by just not doing them, but i cant stop it seems. i was asking for some advice and motivation as to how to stop, but didnt really get any. even if i dont lose 5 lbs, i need to stop eating so much everytime i get back to my room, and everytime i am streessed. its just not healthy. |

i think people try to stay away form eating at night because often night time eating is associated with junk food eating. if you can control your portion sizes and make it healthy, it shouldnt affect your weightloss if you eat at night. |

i think you should start by bringing up some common thing you two share- you go to the gym at the same time so you can just walk over and lift next to her or something and be like.. i love coming to the gym at this time.. or something like that you know what i mean? you can ask if she wants to get coffee or something after too if she seems into you |

wow thanks guys. i realve the support this site gives to people .. i think i will try both eliminating a usual snack (perhaps my almonds and walnuts-high cal snack can add up for sure) and try to do other training with my practices- maybe i can buy a yoga dvd or something.

thanks so much for your attentiveness. I am going to make a resolution not to eat processed foods- i have already put them in a container and out of my room. wow.. i havent even been getting that much! I think i am more around 2000-2200 calories. I see what youa re saying about the natural gaining, but my question is, why now, why after 3 years of the same weight am I gaining now?
Are you saying that I am "stuck" at this weight now because that is where my body is supposed to be? |

sorry i should have clarified... overall I have been eating more but within the past few days I am trying to eat less, but I do not see any results (partly because i always end up munching on snacks without any regard to portions). I am 20 yrs (almost 21!), and 5'4...I am very active as you said. Please note that while I am not overweight even with this weight gain, I need to get back to what I was for personal reasons (I liked how I looked) and for sports reasons (that was my optimal weight for competition). Thus, I do not think I will state my weight. I understand that you cannto give me calorie suggestions due to this, but I am looking more for advice in terms of habits and techniques on how to stay away from munching and be more balanced and perhaps low fat or low cal? |

I agree with many of the posts that home is more of a feeling. For me, the feeling and physical entity are one: my actual house. That truly is my home. I feel a strong comfort when I am there, something I have yet to find in my new house where I live and go to college. I think it is a combination of the actual house to which I have grown accustomed, my mom, my dad, my sister (even though she does not live in that home anymore), and my room (mostly my bed). |
