I just bought a house...  Not just any house, but a total FIXER UPPER and I've been totally nervous and crazy the past week...  Needless to say, my emotional eating problem reared it's ugly head and I'm terrified to weigh myself before getting back on track.  Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be more at peace with this craziness and able to cope without EATING.

Stacey- I'll send a sample meal plan sometime this week.

Yeah- this diet is basically a low-carb diet.  I just like being able to eat as much as I want AND looking forward to "cheat" days which is helping me stay motivated.

I'm 5"4 and was all the way up to 148 a couple weeks ago.  I'm down to about 143.  The past couple weeks I've just been dieting though and my goal is that this week will be the week I try to get back to my work-out routine.  It's going to be the hardest thing though because I have so many meetings and stuff scheduled that I don't have much time...  Come to think of it I'm pretty booked up this week with something going on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday night...  One I have all the big stuff taken care of for my wedding though, I should have a lot of time freed up and will be able to work out more often.  My wedding is September 6, 2009.  My goal is to get down to 125.

Yeah- maybe just plan your dinner ahead of time and write down that you're going to have a chicken breast (remove from freezer) and salad... or whatever.  If you write it down, you'll probably feel obligated to eat that instead of mac & cheese.  Although I'm totally with you- when I'm stressed all I want is taco bell & cheeseburgers.

I'm on this 11-day diet.  My mom paid for it online ($60 I think) and I just use her account so I don't have to pay.  It lists a bunch of foods, you check boxes by the ones you like, and it generates 11 days of meal plans.  Each day has four meals that you can eat in any order, there are no limits to how much you can eat (although you're supposed to stop when you aren't hungry anymore- like you COULD eat more, but won't) and you're supposed to space the meals out by 2.5 hours each.  After 11 days, you get 3 days to EAT WHATEVER YOU WANT and then you go back online and generate another 11 day meal plan.

The foods are mostly high-protein foods.  I'll try to remember as many as I can:  Cottage cheese, bacon (I use Turkey bacon for extra lean-ness), pinto beans, turkey slices, ham slices, cashews, chicken, tuna salad, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, grapes, green beans, mixed green & red veggies, cheese slices, apples, pineapple, peanuts, walnuts, fish, baked beans...

The meal plan spaces everything out though.  Meal 1 could be cottage cheese & bacon, Meal 2 turkey slices & milk, Meal 3 scrambled eggs, orange roughy & green beans, Meal 4 apples & cheese slices.  Then the next day would be completely different.  And you don't have to eat everything.  If it says "scrambled eggs & green beans" I could just have a bowl of green beans if I wanted.  Within each 11-day plan there is one day of all fruit (which I hate) and one day of all veggies.  I don't like the approved fruits so much, so I'm just doing a mixture of fruits and veggies on both of those days.

The best part is knowing that you have "cheat days" coming.  Whenever I have a big craving I just tell myself, "I can have that next Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday" or whenever my next chunk of cheat days are.

I think you can pretty much do a similar diet on your own, but if you really want the structure (I need structure) I could scan in my 11-day meal plan and e-mail it to you (screw paying $60!).

I'm actually doing really well right now, so let's not worry about me.  I hit a rough patch (and recently hit another) but I'm also wedding dress shopping and wedding planning so it is really keeping me mindful and motivated to lose the weight.  I'm down to 143 pounds as of this morning.  That's a 5 pound loss since I started this diet a couple weeks ago!!

Stacey- When I'm really busy, I'm a lot hungrier.  I would try to pick some healthy foods and plan out each day one day in advance.  If every night you spend one hour putting together your meals, and the meals and snacks are healthy/low-cal foods, you won't have to choose between cooking and eating when you're busy.  This diet has kind of forced me to put together all my meals for the next day and it has worked out great.  If you write it down and put it all together, the no-fuss of it will help you actually eat those foods instead of something else.  Pick things that are really easy and that you don't really have to limit yourself with.  Low-fat cottage cheese is great because you can totally eat it until you full and it goes well with fruit, or you can put salt and pepper on it.  Or tuna salad- I eat this all the time now.  I mix two cans of tuna with light mayo and put it in a tupperware container for the next day.  It's a decent sized meal that's filling, easy to make, high-protein and low-calorie.  Hmmm... what else...  Beans.  They can be high calorie, but the fiber and protein pretty much still makes it an awesome diet food.  A can of Bush's vegetarian baked beans is very filling and keeps me full longer.  The whole can comes out to less than 500 calories, too.  Another thing I've been making ahead of time to "snack" on is hard boiled eggs.  If I'm hungry between meals, I can easily grab a couple out of my fridge and the protein is very filling (for 140 calories) and the taste is more satisfying than pre-packaged diet snacks.  Hmmm... bowls of green beans, turkey bacon (20 cals a piece)...  Oh!  And I've also started making scrambled eggs a day ahead of time.  It sounds weird, but I'll scramble 3 or 4 eggs and put them in a tupperware container for the next day and microwave it for breakfast or lunch.

You get the idea, though.  I really think if you have three meals & snacks, ready to go and planned out (planned and made at night when you are not hungry and more apt to make healthy decisions) - it will make it easy to go through the next day actually eating those foods because all you have to do is grab them out of the fridge.

Well, I do really like the diet I'm doing now.  Hopefully it will work for me because I'm wedding dress shopping right now and it is DEPRESSING.  Very few wedding dresses are flatering on those of us with a little extra midsection.  AND the sizes run small as if to punch us in the face with our own weight issue.  It's been getting bad for a while (I'm average weight for my age and height, but I always have to buy a LARGE in anything!!!  Anyone else?) but the wedding dresses are even worse.  I wear a pant size in an 8 or 9, but my wedding dress size??  12!  And some of them are too tight!  I'm two sizes away from having to shop the "plus size" wedding dresses!

Aaarrrggh!  Crazy society & culture!!!

I apologize for being MIA for a long time.  I fell off the wagon because I hit a rough patch in my life and got really depressed.  I went on here looking for the motivation I needed, but I felt kind of passed over in the conversation.

Anyway, I'm back now.  I've been on the "11-day diet" for 3 days (I'm on my fourth) and it's going really well.  As of this morning I'm weighing in at 144 pounds which is only a couple pounds less than my starting weight in this group, but it's 4 pounds less than my starting weight as of my depression binge.

I'll definitely try to be more active in the group now that I'm finally finding my motivation again and my life seems to be coming back together.

How is everyone doing on their 15-20 goal?  Has anyone hit it yet?  Or getting close?

Hi everyone.  I'm sorry I've been MIA, but I've had a rough couple of weeks... My fiance and I were looking at houses, but he's having some serious problems at work and may lose his job or quit.  This has been incredibly stressful because we just got engaged and we're planning on buying a house and I don't really know what to do.  Also I went on a short vacation to a lake, but vacation turned tragic when a t-shirt of my dad's (he passed away and the t-shirt is one of my very few possessions of his) fell into the lake from our boat and sank to the bottom... It was one of the most tragic days on my life.  Anyway- I've really been struggling and my weight is back up because I haven't had much will power (or energy, or enthusiasm, or optimism) lately... I'm sorry to be a downer, but HELP.  I want to lose the weight for my wedding, but I'm so sad and depressed...  Can anyone motivate me to get back on track?

I have to "cheat" in some way or I lose my mind and get depressed and feel deprived.  I kind of go back and forth between an extra hundred calories or so each day or, be really good all week and have a "cheat" day on the weekend.  I have slower weight loss than the other time I dieted and was super dilligent about everything, but I'd rather have the slower weight loss and not be depressed than lose two pounds a week, but fall horribly off the wagon because I feel miserable.

My goal is to work out for an hour after work today.  I have to write that on here because "publishing" those goals kind of make me hold myself to them...

I kind of already had a "cheat" day this week, but tomorrow will be a boozey day that will pack on the calories... I'm hoping to balance it out by eating mostly low-calorie veggies.

Does anyone have much experience with logging mixed drinks on CC?  I make this alcoholic punch that has a variety of stuff in it and I have no clue how to log it.  Sometimes with foods I have to substitute items- like if I eat a vegetable burrito from a locally owned restaurant, I just log one from a chain on CC.  Is there something on here that you guys think might be a good calorie substitute to log my punch?  It is a big batch: one jug of pre-made hurricanes, two cartons of orange peach mango juice, one jug of rum, two bottles of champagne, one 2-liter bottle of sprite...  We put it all in a 5-gallon cooler and the whole party drinks off of it.  Any guesses as to the calories per glass?

I have definitely done the 2 lbs. a week weight loss before.  Unfortunately, I couldn't stick with it because it was pretty restrictive and it made it very difficult to eat out EVER.  But- It is possible.  I kept it up for about a month before deciding more calories a week and slower weight loss would make for a happier me...

I eat the fat-free cream cheese almost every day on a breakfast sandwich (bagel, veggie sausage, fat free cream cheese) and I love it.  The fat free does not bother me at all and I actually think it's quite tasty.  I was never really addicted to regular cream cheese, though so maybe that's the difference.  To me, it's worth trying.  Especially if you are eating it with some other stuff.  I'm in the minority, but I reccommend it.

I just bought a digital scale on my lunch hour... I just really wanted something more accurate than me squinting at a little dial pointing somewhere between 124 and 145!!  Hopefully when I get it home and try it out I won't have any nasty surprises!!

Jessie-  You keep calling your fiance a "finance."  Is that a cute nickname you have for him because he's your moneybags???  LOL.

I'm going out to dinner tonight with some friends, so everyone wish me luck... I wish I knew where we were going so I could prepare, but the other couple is picking the restaurant.  Here's hoping they have some good veggie/fish dishes that aren't fried or smothered in creamy, cheesey goodness!!

Yo, peeps.  Happy weigh-day!!  I regret to admit that last night I was NOT good when I had dinner with my friend... 2 margaritas and chips and salsa before my meal!!!  Chips and salsa are totally my cryptonite though... I should avoid mexican restaurants because I seriously have no will power against it...  SOOOOOO- yesterday I consumed almost 2,200 calories!!!  AAAAAAHHHH!!

Anyway... Stats:

Beginning Weight: 145-146

Current Weight: 142-143

Goal Weight: 125

Regarding TTOTM, Diet Soda, Booze, and Honeymoons:

I always put on anywhere from three to five pounds during my period and it takes me a couple days after I'm done for my weight to get back to normal.

I don't really drink soda often because what I really love is FOUNTAIN SODA.  I never buy cans or bottles, but I LOVE the carbonation and water to syrup ratio in fountain soda from a restaurant or fast food chain.  Since I don't go out to eat that often, I see it as a treat and don't worry about avoiding it.  I've always drank diet, though.  Regular is too sweet for me.  I hear that Diet Dr. Pepper is really good for a "sweeter" diet soda... Also, several of my "regular" soda drinkers swear by Coke Zero.

Booze is a big weakness of mine.  I love to drink- especially wine.  My fiance and I met in college where we were both in the Greek System and therefore our social circle seems to be dominated by drinkers.  My biggest challenge this week is going to be a little "engagement party" we're having this weekend where everyone is expecting me to make my infamous "crazy punch" and I have no idea how I'm going to be able to resist it.  I can definitely fix some low-cal BBQ, but the BOOZE!!!  I love it!!  I have heard from a million people, though, that cutting alcohol totally jump-started their weight loss...  : (

I'm trying to decide on where to go for our honeymoon-  I'm thinking Costa Rica... Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone been to Costa Rica before?  I've always wanted to go...

Tomorrow is weigh-in day!!!

It's hard to not weigh myself every day, but I try really hard to only do it once a week.  It's too easy for me to get frustrated with water weight or other factors when I weigh myself every day.

I am pretty proud of myself because last night the fiance wanted to get fast food for dinner.  We went to Jack in the Box and I got the Southwest Salad without chicken (I'm a pescatarian) and the low-fat balsamic dressing.  It was a HUGE salad and I was stuffed afterwards.  It only had about 300 calories, though.  Anyway, it was really hard to resist those stuffed jalapenos, french fries, breakfast sandwiches... BUT, I did it.

Now if I could only get myself to excersize...  I also think I need a new scale.  A digital one.  I don't trust the one I'm using right now...

Wish me luck- I'm meeting friends for dinner tonight and tomorrow night- EEK!

I HATE the recipe analyzer!!!  Don't get me wrong, every once in a while, it works and that's convenient for meals I eat regularly, but for the most part I find it SOOOOO frustrating.  Several times I have tried to enter a recipe with ingredients I know is in CC (ie- boca breakfast patties) but the analyzer "can't find it" and what's the point of an inacurate recipe????  Plus a lot of basic foods like "brown rice" pull up with WAY more calories than the kind I buy.  So, in general, I can't stand the thing and get really frustrated when I put a bunch of time into getting a recipe into CC and then have to abort when it doesn't work out correctly.

I always cook with extra virgin olive oil instead of cooking spray.  I have an olive oil sprayer to help keep the oil to a minimum.  I find that cooking sprays leave a film on some of my bakeware and I rationalize the olive oil because of the health benefits.  I just always add a little bit of olive oil into my calorie count for my meals.

A little bit about me:  I'm engaged and will be getting married next September.  My 20 pounds goal is largely motivated by my wedding- specifically, I'd like to lose 20 pounds before dress shopping (and keep it off until the wedding).  My fiance and I do not live together because we decided a long time ago we didn't want to live together until we were married (something to look forward to), but he stays over Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights on most weeks.  He eats a lot more than I do AND he doesn't like most healthy foods (vegetables).  It gets frustrating because he'll be like, "Uh oh.  I gained 5 pounds." and then he'll use the stairs at work for a week and drop it lickity split.  Anyway, it does get hard to prepare healthy meals that he'll like (I should also mention that I'm a pescatarian and he loves his meat).  We LOVE going out to eat, so that is a challenge for me as well...  My job situation is good- I work 7am to 4pm which really works for me because I try to work out at home after work and then I still have time to make dinner and such.  In terms of losing weight:  I've gotten good at handling restaurants, good at revising recipes, good at following my calorie budget, BUT I am not very good at excersizing... it's my biggest challenge.  These groups tend to help motivate me, though.

I'm pretty sure you were included in the "7" lovin.  I counted 7 including you...

Stacey- I'm really interested in this "zig zagging" technique... It seems to make sense metabolism-wise.  Plus then it's a little more flexible if you know one day is going to be harder than another one!  I'm going to wait until I feel confident in my calorie counting and feel like I'm "on track" and then I may try this zig-zagging thing too.  Let me know if you start to form an opinion about it.

In one way, I'm glad it's Monday... I love weekends, but it is SO much easier to have structure in my diet when I'm working:

Breakfast: One small onion bagel (140 calories), 2 tablespoons of fat free cream cheese (30 calories and tastes delish), and one veggie breakfast pattie (60 calories) made into a "breakfast sandwich."

Lunch: Brown rice, black beans, corn, diced tomatoes, chili powder, cumin, red pepper, shrimp and fat free shredded cheddar cheese: less than 500 calories

Dinner: Don't know yet!

My name is Laura... That's probably a lot easier than my "20 lbs. to bodacious bride" name!!  LOL.  I think we should try to keep this group relatively small if possible because one group I did got so big, no one really knew one another.

I vote for Thursday morning weigh-ins.

My recent challenges: I went to a baseball game on Friday night and had 24 oz. of beerlicious pleasure (200 extra calories) plus, I had some bad calorie info on my dinner from quiznos that night and my sandwich ended up with more cals. than I had anticipated... eek!!

I should be back on track this week, so we'll see what the scale says on Thursday...

My worst surprise was a small veggie sandwich from Quiznos... I did a quick preliminary research online before I ordered it and found something that said a small veggie sandwich had 227 calories... So I ordered that and had a serving of chips on the side for a grand total of less than 500 calories... OR SO I THOUGHT.  Later when I logged it on CC, it said a small veggie sandwich from Quiznos was over 500 calories by itself!!! EEEEEK!!

I would love to be in your group.  I did a group once before and it really helped motivate me.  I'm 24, 5'4" and about 145 lbs.  My goal is 125, so I have 20 lbs to lose to hit my goal.  I'd like to do it in 6 months.  I've been counting calories for two weeks and doing well with that, but for some reason I haven't lost any weight.  I hate my scale though and am going to Target during lunch to invest in a better one...  I vote for once a week weight ins, plus group support for anything else (ie- challenges, advice, recipes, etc...).  That is kind of the format of my last group and it was really wonderful...

This is kind of obvious, but I'll post it anyway...

SUBSTITUTE VEGGIE PRODUCTS!!!  Vegetarian "meat substitutes" can get you a LOT of food for the calories without the calories and still getting a lot of protein.  I use them in recipes all the time as well as for the basis of my meals.  My favorites are as follows:

Boca Breakfast Patties!!!  Great on low-fat breakfast sandwiches on whole wheat muffins, and also AWESOME in an egg subtitute omelet with fat-free american cheese... You have no idea how good that is for hardly any calories at all!

Any brand of "Ground Beef Crumbles"!!!  Spaghetti sauce, tacos, taco salads, chili... So many possibilities.

Morningstar Farms Veggie Chicken Products!!!  I love the chicken nuggets with hot sauce, the chicken patties on whole wheat buns... You can use them for making "Chicken Parm" with marinara and low fat mozzarella cheese...
