I always lose upper body first too, so I have found that doing pretty heavy weight lifting for my upper body makes me more evenly distributed, because my upper body is looking firmer and stronger, rather than bony in comparison to my voluptuous lower body. |

If your routine uses your whole body, you need at least one day of rest in between each work out, so M,W,F,Sun,Tue,Thur,Sat., etc., would be the most often you could work out. It will help tone and strengthen your muscles. The weight you lose will more likely be fat than muscle if you are working your muscles and eating a healthy diet. If you want to work out more often, you could take what you have learned and divide your body into parts. For example: I do upper pushing muscles (chest, tricepts, antierior and middle delts) Mondays and Thursdays; upper pulling muscles (back, bicepts, posterior delts) Tuesdays and Fridays, and Low body on Wednesdays. I work in isolated abs depending on how much time I have, but often Tuesday and Thursday. When I do any lifting, I focus on my abs, to keep them tight, so don't need a lot of isolation work. By using this method, my muscles have at least two days to recuperate. |

I am 5'1" About 10 years ago, I was exercising about 2 hours a day and have no idea how many calories I ate, but was down to 115 pounds, with very little body fat and wore a size 0-2. I am back to the gym. I lift pretty heavy weights for 45 minutes, then do cardio for 30 minutes. I eat 1550 calories per day. I eat about 310 calories 5 times a day (7,10,1,4,7:00). I think if I ate any less, I would be too tired, because of the exercise I do. I just started back to this routine a week ago starting at 170 pounds and size 14 pants. I have lost 3 pounds overall. I have been lifting heavy for a long time, but just recently added the cardio back. I lost a lot at first and bounced back up and I think I am on track at this point. I know that last time I lost all the weight I was probably eating about the same, but I know I ate more beans, rice and vegetables than I am now. I gained 50 pounds with each of my two children and had not gotten the weight off. I will let you know how I do. |

I am 5'1" tall. No matter how large I get, my waist is always much smaller than my hips (10+inches smaller). When I was a size 0-1, and weighed a pretty muscular 119 pounds, I had a 23 inch waist. At about 170 and size 14, it more than 33 inches. |

| Weight Loss | It's 8pm and I'm 490 calories short, AGAIN!!! | Jul 15 2008 02:01 (UTC) |
13 |
I sit down at night and decide what I will eat the next day, so that I know if I have it available and can take the time to think it out. Sometimes, I make changes, but I have a good idea how much I have to play with (exchange this for that). You might find that if you do that, you won't end up at the end of the day short so many calories. Another thought is that I balance my snack/meals out so that I eat 300 calories every 3 hours. It is a little challenging to figure out what totals 300 calories, but it works for me. Good luck with whatever method you use. |

Usually, weight loss challenges at work are sponsored by a gym. You go in to get weighed and have your body fat measured. I would suggest you find out what percentage you are now and aim towards a healthy percent. Sorry, I can't help with how long it takes for one percent. |

| Weight Loss | Kinda long, but need some advice (or just rant with me) please | Jul 14 2008 01:26 (UTC) |

As for the first parts of the discussion, you can make healthy tacos, burritos, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, burgers, etc. You just have to watch the ingredients and choose the healthiest ones you can. The kids only need 1/4 to 1/2 of an adult portion, so keep that in mind when developing meals. You can give your fiance two portions, or he can snack on other things in between meals. My husband hated brown rice and whole wheat pasta when I first started serving them, but he became acustomed to the brown rice. I had to switch to the Barilla Plus pasta and just not searve pasta as often as a compromise there. As for the other parts of the discussion, you are not yet married. The point of dating is to find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. If you already feel like you are doing everything in the relationship and he is not, then you need to talk to him about it. If you cannot come up with a solution where you will feel supported and encouraged to make healthy choices for yourself, then maybe it is time to be on your own until you are strong enough to choose an eternal companion who you can really live with. Once you lose the weight, your eating habits will need to be a lifelong decision or you will gain it all back. Think of yourself and your children before making this relationship permanent in its current state. Good luck with both of your problems. |

| Fitness | What is this popping/tingling sensation in legs after workout? | Jul 14 2008 01:13 (UTC) |
5 |
I get if after I have been walking for at least 30 minutes. I think by that point in the workout, you have burned off the glycogen in your muscles and have started burning the fat that is stored. I know that the morning after workouts like these, I feel thinner and my legs feel smoother. The popping is not something I ever hear, but I do get a tingly, burning feeling, very different from the lactic acid burn I feel when lifting weights. |

You should be eating 5 or 6 meals a day when possible, so by 6:00 PM, you only have 1/5 or 1/4th of your daily calories left. You could talk to your parents about what you are trying to do. Maybe you could eat smaller portions of the same meals at dinner. If everyone else is getting 1 cup of soup, you could eat 1/4 or 1/2 cup of soup, etc. Maybe you could bring what you don't eat (left-overs) to school the next day for lunch, so you are still eating the food your parents have prepared, but you are eating them earlier in the day. It also looks like you may need to be eating more calories during the day than you are currently budgeting yourself. It looks like you are very close to your ideal body weight. Check you account to see what CC suggests you eat for the day. |

I have to say there is something about the Kashi Go Lean Crunch that stops me up severely. So much so, that I had to go to the gastroenterologist, because I was so blocked up. The stuff you take for a colonoscopy cleared it all out, but I really think that my body just has trouble digesting that cereal. I also have similar troubles a few months into eating the Zone bars and the other Kashi bars, so it may be that I have trouble digesting specific grains (there are 7 I think in Kashi). It may be that you need to avoid the Kashi cereal for a while, or at least only have it on rare occasions. |

To help keep what you have firm, you might consider using weights and pullies at the gym. Dumbell or Smith or machine bench presses at different angles will help build up the musle behind your breasts. Also, chest flies (arms out to your sides, kept strait with elbows slightly bent, hands pulled together) at different angles, using machines, dumbells, or pullies will help develop the cleavage. In the mean time, do get a better fitting bra, but cheap T-shirt bras that hold their shape should be fine for now. You will definately want someting supportive for the gym. |

| Vegetarian | preachy veg*ns | Jul 13 2008 18:48 (UTC) |

I am not Vegan. In the past, I tried for about 6 months, but even then, did choose to eat animal products occasionally (about once per month). I don't think this sounds preachy. I think it is a pamphlet written to draw attention to what would be needed to completely abolish suffering of animals. Whether a person believes that this is important or not, is there own choice. For some people, choosing to purchase products from farms that are certified to be more humane is the best step if you do choose to partake of animal products, but it is true that this is not completely abolishing all animal pain and suffering. |

| Weight Loss | anyone who is around 5'1'' or so who has gone from 120 to 100...need advice | Jul 13 2008 18:43 (UTC) |

I was thinking you wanted to go from 120 to 100, so that is why I said it would take that long. To go from 120 to 110, is only 10 pounds, so I would say 5-8 weeks should be a good goal (1.5 to 2 pounds per week). |

| Weight Loss | anyone who is around 5'1'' or so who has gone from 120 to 100...need advice | Jul 13 2008 18:40 (UTC) |

I am 5'1" tall. In the past, I went from a little over 180 down to 115. I lifted weights and still do. Lifting weights helped me build muscle, so that when I was resting, I burned more fat. At 115, I had people telling me I was too thin and was about a size 0-2 depending on the cut. I had a very thin waist, and wider hips, so it depended on the cut of the clothes. I focused on eating the healthies food possible that would give me the most bang for my buck and I also exercised about 1-2 hours per day. I lifted for 1 to 1.5 hours and did cardio for 35-45 minutes 5 days per week. Right now, I am trying to lose the weight I gained with two prenancies. I still lift, but had stopped doing cardio. Now, I am adding the cardio back into my routines and really keeping the calories to about 1550 per day. I was eating Way more than that the past few years and eating lots of bad foods. I just have to stay focused and remember to keep my lifestyle change this time. I think you should be able to lose 1.5 to 2 pounds per week, so it could take 10-15 weeks for you to lose the weight. |

| Health & Support | I think I have pyschological problems with food | Jul 13 2008 18:32 (UTC) |

If it is hardest at the end of the day consider why. Could it be that you are really tired and vulnerable, bored, lonely? If you are tired, sleep. If you are bored, go to the gym. If you are lonely, call a friend, or go to the gym and join a class or talk to the person on the bike or treadmill next to you (if they don't mind). It may be that you are an emotional eater, and need to think about your emotions more. |

The best thing you can do is NOT have the foods in the house that you might consider binging on. I find it hardest when grocery shopping and passing the foods I know I would binge if I bought. I know that I can not eat only one of them. For me, it is the Debbie snack cakes, ice cream, chips, cookies. I am not as likely to binge on chicken, eggs, vegetables, healthy crackers... |

| Fitness | Muscle makers and Iron Maidens, what do you think of this article? | Jul 13 2008 18:25 (UTC) |

I hear the same thing on commercials for some fitness products too. They emphasise that women want to look lean not muscular. I think skinny, boney with just the hour-glass figure is silly. I want to be strong and look strong. I am, but I don't look like a guy, because I don't take any supplements that would do that. I am all natural, although right now carrying more body fat than I should. I will continue to work my entire body, and as any body builder would, I will focus on what I consider to be my weak spots. I lift with heavy weights, because I like to be strong and muscle burns fat, so I can eat more calories than others my height. If I think my abs are getting too thick, I will adjust. If my shoulders are not large enough, I will adjust. I think his article was written for the women who want to look frail but shapely. Not me. |

I find if I balance my calories so that every time I eat, I eat the same amount of calories, I don't feel deprived or hungry. I eat about 1500 calories a day, so I eat 300 calorie meals every 3 hours (7:00, 10:00, 1:00, 4:00, 7:00). I don't have any "snacks," so I feel satisfied after each meal. You might want to give it a try. You could eat 6 meals if you have a longer day, or eat more calories per meal if you want to stick with 5 meals. |

| Health & Support | a question (or two) about depression | Jul 12 2008 16:14 (UTC) |

Like a plant, make sure you are getting enough sun-light, nutrition, and water. Also, take care of your spine which impacts the nerves that lead to your entire body. I would suggest looking for a chiropractor who specializes in nutrition as well. A group exercise (team sport, exercise class) that allows you to interact with others in a fun, physical environment has also shown to be very effective for those suffering from depression. |

It sounds like the anxiety is driving your eating habits. As others have stated, you may need to eat more calories than you do, which is driving you to think about food. Your need for control could be leading you towards an eating disorder. You may need to consult with a nutritionist who can help you see what you should be eating in a day to be healthy. The more information you have available to you in making an informed decision may decrease your anxiety level about what everyone is telling you. |

| Weight Loss | Getting unspeakably frustrated... | Jul 12 2008 15:44 (UTC) |

Don't give up. It may be that your body has gotten used to the "routine." Try eating more calories one day and less the next, but at least 1500 calories. Try eating more often during the day so you don't feel hungry. Pick up some laundry determent or bags of potatoes and treat them like weights. There are several exercises on the activity portion of this web-site. Even with a bum knee, you can do curls, extensions, push-ups (against a wall, bed, or table at first), and other upper body strengthing exercises. The more muscle you build, the more calories you will burn when resting. Try to get some relaxation too, as stress can also make you retain weight. Just keep up the good work and don't lose sight of your goal. You are doing great! |

| Health & Support | Trouble digesting carbs. Normal? | Jul 12 2008 15:26 (UTC) |

I think your body is getting used to the whole grain carbs that are healthier. When you have been eating healthy foods and start to eat unhealthy foods, you can feel the difference in your energy level etc. You may have had the same feelings before you were eating healthy, but you felt that way all the time, so you did not have the healthy feeling in comparison. Does that make sense? |
