Weight Loss After dinner cravings ruin my whole day for me! Mar 19 2009

I often have two squares of a dark chocolate bar if I have a sweet craving. The dark chocolate is so rich it helps kill cravings and dark chocolate is actually good for you. In moderation.

Honestly though, when I first began implementing the no eating after 7 p.m. rule it was hard and took will power. I drank a lot of water with lemon and chewed gum.

But my body adapted and the cravings stopped.

Good points all! I thought it was an interesting read and good for a discussion.

You are likely right kathygator.

I also think it depends on the question. I mean if someone asked me if I am happy -- yes I am.  I have a great bf, family, a wonderful circle of friends, a job I love in an excellent workplace, I am lucky enough to be able to pursue my horse passion

I am not unhappy overall with my life and wouldn't be no matter what size I am.

I AM, however, unhappy with my size at the moment...and I am a size 14. Laughing

I do also feel that I cannot do all the things I want to do the way I want to do them because I am too big so I think smaller and fitter I would be happier even though I would describe myself as happy still.

Last week: 163

This week: 161.8

Loss: 1.2

Super frustrated...I keep just going up and down around this mark.

I am going to have to create a better eating and exercise plan and be more tough on myself to stick to it I guess. I don't know what to do though. I do eat fairly well, I know I don't exercise enough but I do what I can when I can. I have no one to do it with. I am ready to just quit even trying because my weight never changes to any great degree.

My bf needs to lose/tone and has no desire to do so...this is really frustrating to me as well. If we were both working on being healthy it would be so much easier. It's not that he sabotages me, just makes it hard to stay on track

I am upset because I can't afford a gym...I just can't right now. When I am not committed to something at night I have very little energy in the evenings and can't drag myself out of bed in the mornings. I am feeling very stressed (work and personal life) lately and I just don't know what to do to change things.

I suspected as much as you will see in my journal, but it doesn't make it any better!

It was a weird week, I was doing really well and then on Thursday I was ill and that led to not really eating on Friday until later in the evening when we had a late dinner with my bf's family, which ended in a huge fight between his sister and parents and he was somehow blamed partially for -- so that required alcohol! Then on Saturday we had his birthday party...nibbles and drinks. Yesterday was awash as we were both hanging over...so in addition to eating poorly and drinking I had NO exercise.

Ah well...it's a new week and super busy, so another chance to get BACK down to where I was a few weeks ago. <sigh>

Here's hoping that all of us can get kick started to get back into it again.

oakmommy,

I was looking at the spreadsheet and there is teeny mistake on mine.

My starting weight is listed as 161.6

My current weight is listed as 145.4 (I WISH! That should be my goal weight.)

And my goal weight is listed as 177.76 (ACK!!!!)

I feel back on track again...a bad weekend food and alcohol wise, being Thanksgiving up here, but I was also more active and have been good about exercising. Will see how things go next weigh-in...right now is TTOM so the scale is going bonkers!

Well I have met my Wii Fit goal for the week! I have already done it three times this week, not that I plan to stop for the week now, just glad that anything I do now is above the goal I had set! I need to get three more rides in and I will meet my horse goal too. Good way to start I think.

I am in the midst of TTOM so I an bloated and am gaining -- but I know it's not real. This is my first time with no BC for a long time...I was on the patch and it was not working very well anymore -- cramps and other issues, the things I was on it to avoid. So far so good...off it totally and no cramps at all.

Good luck to all in you exercise challenge.

I am glad a 5K was not required for this challenge or I would not have signed up! I have no interest in doing a marathon, don't have time to train for one, wouldn't know where to start anyhow. So I am very happy that wasn't a requirement. I did work my butt off on Wii Fit this morning...dripping sweat and feeling the burn!

If you are playing field hockey you are probably gaining muscle. If you eat properly and keep doing field hockey you will gain muscle and tone up -- you may weigh the same but it won't look the same. Also the more muscle you have the more fat your body will burn on its own.

Make sure you eat well and healthy -- you need to get enough calories or your body will not shed weight. Try to eat 40% good carbs (whole grains, veggies, fruits), 30% lean protein and 30% good fats at each meal and snack!

Right now I am *trying* to do Wii Fit on a regular basis and ride my horses. I have had Wii Fit for a few months and horses for as long as I remember.

I will commit to riding five days a week and doing Wii Fit for 30 minutes at least three days a week.

I want to join a gym, but finances are a bit tight at the moment so I have to wait on that.

Cordie,

A pound is great and I know all about doing things before you realize it. I have gotten into the habit of waiting it out if I want something, trying to make myself more conscious of what I am doing -- I am trying to do that with everything, become more conscious on the premise that if I am more aware I will forget fewer things. HA!

I think I have gotten a bit of kick to get going again...it's too easy to put it back on I need to be more aware and not let set backs set me back here too! I wnat this winter to be one of rebirth of my fit, skinny self so that in spring I can shed off the layers and rise, phoenix-like, as my fit, skinny self that can be seen in a bathing suit this summer!

Oct 13 weight - 161.6

10% challenge goal - 145.4

Actual end goal - around 135 (see how I feel when I get there)

Height: 5'3"

Age: 33

I came over from the 10% by Halloween challenge where I won't meet my goal but the group has helped! I am losing weight to be healthier, to look and feel better and to be able to do more.

I had been down to around 142 about 2 years ago and then I met my bf...he cooks, we were long distance for a time so a lot of sitting and driving...eating late, drinks, etc. And surprise it all came back!

My plan is eating whole grains, non-processed food and cutting back on sugar. I am eating more fruit and veggies and lots of good protein.

I am also taking abs+ and shape+ supplements and planning to ad leans+ this week. These will help me burn more fat. I really like these supplements.

Good luck everyone!

So I am up from my last weight, which is a bummer, BUT after two turkey dinners and a huge brekkie on the weekend I am the exact same weight as before the weekend. So all in all I can't be too upset as I figured turkey weekend would not be good!

So today I got up, did Wii Fit and will be going to the barn today and tomorrow (took an extra long weekend so have Tuesday off) as well.

Now the question is...what to do with all that leftover turkey??

Yes, I gained a fair few over the weekend (like 5), but I have been very good and they are falling back off of me again. I think a lot of it was water and such. Just hop back on the horse and you'll be fine.

I was happy to see today that my weight was down over a pound from yesterday! Still up from last week, but my suspicion that most of it was dehydration from too much wine was confirmed! Thank goodness. Just have to keep eating right this week. I think I will weigh in on Friday before two Thanksgiving dinners!

Oi vey...I am up again. This is on account of eating too late on Thursday (plus too much wine) and Friday and then Saturday night was a good friend's birthday party so drinks and food again.

I was pretty good yesterday and started today off right so hopefully I can make up for it but I fear for next week's weigh-in as this weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and I have TWO turkey dinners -- one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Will try to be super good all week to make up for it!

Anyway, not a week I wish to report...it's bad and I know why so that is that for this week.

I did not report my weight last Monday as TTOM made it scary, overly large type number. So:

Last weigh in - 162

This week - 158.7

Loss: 3.3 lbs

Hooray! I completed the last day of my cleanse yesterday and it was very successful (from Wednesday when I began to today I lost 2.5 lbs, so part of my loss was before the cleanse, also good).

dinarly - According to the spreadsheet you lost 3.2 lbs since last time!!! That is AWESOME!!!! Congrats!

I am so glad I did the cleanse, not just for the weight loss, but I feel it reset my body to get rid of the cravings and all that so that maintaining my eating plan and making better choices will be much easier. I mean if I did the cleanse and then ate crap it would be pointless, but my real cravings stopped at about Day 3 so it's been good.

See, I just thought about a coke and I didn't get a craving for one, or want one...I just thought about it as an item. A little test...hee hee.

To be honest the maintenance part of this is not a stretch for me...I don't eat a lot of processed foods anyway (I got off them before and now if I eat a frozen dinner I get a killer headache and feel sick) and I eat whole grains and try to limit sugar already. So I should see further success, just nice to get the kick start of the cleanse.

Maybe we should share ideas/recipes for yummy food that is also healthy and diet friendly???

Would some new ideas help get you out of the dieting rut? Sometimes a change is as good as a rest...maybe some different food ideas would help?

Just a thought...

leanne,

It is The Natural Health Makeover by Dr. Joey Schulman. She has a new called The Last 15 as well. It looks pretty good too -- tricks for jump starting your metabolism naturally and that. She is a naturopathic doctor. www.drjoey.com

It's not all about the cleanse. The first part is and then she suggests using the pick three system of eating to maintain it and it did work for me! What screwed me up was meeting my bf who can cook and being in a long distance relationship with him. I was on the road too much, not exercising and when we were together he cooked great food! So now that we are living together and the travel aspect is gone and that we can plan our meals better I am really trying to get back on track. I just really felt that I needed the cleanse to get the kickstart again.

The first time I did it I was drinking, oh about 2 litres of coke a day...seriously! For the cleanse I gave that up and drank water instead, of course. In those five days I lost 10 lbs!!! I know it's a lot at once, but considering it was likely all sugar and water it was a good thing!

What I also liked about the book is that she explains how food works in your body and what different foods do. She gives recipes as well.

Congrats jett!

So today is day one of vacation and my five-day cleanse.

Two things I need to say.

1. Cold FX works. It really does. On Monday I felt gross and had to come home. I got Cold FX and took it according to directions and by the next day I felt better. And today I feel great. This is the cold that has taken my co-workers and lasted for weeks on some of them.

2. TTOM is EVIL. No wonder us gals are so screwy. No word of a lie here...yesterday something possessed me to weigh myself. I was up 4 lbs...overnight. No biggie, I knew what it was. Today I weighed myself first thing so I can track my cleanse results. I was down 6 lbs...overnight and am at my lowest weight all summer. Seriously.I mean great way to start my cleanse week, very motivating, but no wonder we chicks are basket cases this time of year!!!

So I got up (slept in, yay!) weighed myself, made my breakfast shake and worked out with Wii Fit. Pushed myself and for serious I was sweating, breathing harder and working hard. I am catching up here, going to clean up a bit. After lunch I will go to the barn and play with horses and at 5 p.m. I have a massage.

I love vacation!

What about a protein shake? It's like tricking yourself because you are drinking it but it fills you up and kickstarts your metabolism.

My favourite is blueberry banana -- soy milk, banana, blueberries, protein powder, flax oil -- it's YUMMY and filling!

It is how I started with breeakfast and now I NEED to eat in the mornings!

I am taking vacation this week and going to spend it doing a cleanse (diet only, no supplements), exercising and going to the barn. No real plans, just catch up on things (a few appointments) and have some ME time!

I am plesantly surprised! I thought I would gain this week but I actually lost a little so my slow and steady downward trek continues. I am in for a bad week with many work commitments involving meals so we will see...my goal is to lose a pound this week so I will work for that!

saxkat13: Sounds like we had similar weekends. I didn't eat badly per se, just ate my good food very well!

jamminatorr - I feel your pain, I was you last week! I was making good progress, had a mini goal and then TTOM came along and screwed me! But don't be too sad, you DID lose so be proud of that!

leanne21071 - Good luck on your goals this week! But hey, 0 is better than going up, right??

alexanderrob - Sometimes you just have to live! I am sure you will back in the 220s next week!

I don't know, I am down but boy do I feel bloated today (bloated and I am a tad...erm...gaseous). Not sure why...maybe the wine from last night? I never had a lot but something is making me puffy (and, um, well you know)! I am drinking lots of water and hoping it will go away!

This week: 162.3

Last week: 162.7

Loss: .4

I didn't expect loss this week...I have to confess I have not been exercising as much as I should. And I ate out a few times -- work BBQ that I had to attend, bf's Grammie's birthday dinner...

So I am happy with this loss. I know I won't make the goal but if I can lose at least a little each week I will be very, very happy.

Also two people this week asked me if I was losing weight! It was two different days and outfits so I can't attribute it to dressing deceptively (which is what I was doing with the first one). So anyhow it's only a couple of pounds in total but it's nice to think people notice a bit of a change.

Actually, since July 16, when I started Wii Fit, I have lost a total of 2.8 lbs! I was eating better before that so I may have lost a tad more than that and the people that said this to me haven't seen me a lot over the summer so they are likely seeing more than just the couple of pounds. I know it's not a super fast rate of loss but for what I have actually done and the number of crazy treats (and beer) this summer it's pretty darn good!

I started this week off right...for some reason I woke at 5:30 a.m. so instead of laying there and drifting to sleep and feeling worse when I woke up finally, I got up and did Wii Fit for 22 minutes. I did rhythm boxing, hula hoop and some strength training. Not a lot but every bit helps and it got me going this morning...if I can do this more mornings I will.

This silly Atlantic time zone means I am always the first one posting...will do my shout outs later!
