Motivation Fresh Start Group Week 10 (group closed) Sep 15 2008

Well I am happy to report that I DID IT!!  I started the first day of the first week of the couch to 5k.  This morning as a matter of fact.  It was between going to the gym and trying this out.  I opted for this because it didn't involve me driving anywhere, smelling anything sweaty (except for maybe me) and I don't really care what the little old ladies watering their lawns think of a girl walking/jogging in their neighborhood.  I feel so PUMPED!! Now only if I can make myself do this again on Wednesday... that will be sweet.

Like Dutch, I didn't really do anything positive this week, except stay away from fast food and heroin, the latter not really being an accomplishment, but since I did it, hey, I might as well add it right?

Liz, I think the added goals are a great idea.  I need to be accountable for myself, but it also helps knowing that somebody from the group may ask me how my workout went, or what I did.

My eating goals:

Drink my 8-10 glasses of H2O daily.  I've found that I've kind of veered away from that, and I feel slow and sluggish a lot which in turn makes me want to eat more for more energy. ( I think I just had an epiphany!)

Stick with low fat versions of my regular foods

Strive for 5 fruits and vegs thruout each day

Exercise goals:

Week 1:  Do my 3 x a week C25K workout, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, workout in gym on Saturday

Week 2.  Maybe advance to week 2, I may decide to do week 1 again... we'll see.  3 times a week, Sunday, Tuesday and Friday, work out in gym on Saturday.

Week 3.  Advance to following week, jog on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday with workout in gym Monday and Saturday.

Last week: 213.4

This week: 213.0 ( I go up and down thru the week, but I was suprised to see I'd lost a .4 pound... yeah me!!)

Can't wait to see how everybody else did... take care all!

OH Yeah, I forgot to add... one thing that has been weighing on my mind is the second part of our losing 10%.  I have to lose a total of 7.4 pounds to make my goal, so I gotta bust some ass!

Alan Alda huh?

Okay Marlies, if you want secret crushes... I got one.  Bo Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard.  I used to be IN LOVE with him probably from the time I was 7 until I was 10.  My cousin gave me an old poster of hers for my 8th birthday, and it had Bo and Luke Duke standing in front of the General Lee.  I wouldn't get undressed in front of it because I didn't want Bo and Luke to see me!!  I spent about 6 months getting dressed and undressed in my closet or the bathroom!  I also used to have a crush on Scott Baio... oh yeah... and I thought I was going to marry Matt Dillon.  Don't ask me why, but I thought he was HOT too!Tongue out

So I called about a different job, it was thru an employee/temp service.  They called me back and want me to start work here in town next week, which is awesome.  I don't know if they want me for days or nights yet, either is okay... *days would be better however*  and my husband is not happy about me being gone nights, but I need to work.  Me being home every other week is killing me.  I see bills being paid late and I feel horrible, like its my fault.  So anyway, I'm going in tomorrow to fill out paperwork, and then I'll find out more.  I'll be making less to start with, but within a couple of months there should be raises.  As you can tell, I'm totally excited!!  Hope all is well with everybody!

Take care,

Lisa

Great job everybody... and Welcome Tanya!

I need to stop weighing myself everyday.  I get frustrated when I weigh myself in the am and weigh 215, then I weigh myself again a bit later in the day and I'm 213... I think I'm getting scale obsessed.  I think it's time for me to only bring it out once a week.  I think it would make the weigh ins sweeter... if you know what I mean.

Dutch- I did not know that about bananas...would you mash them down before you thaw them?  And then how would you measure them out when you are baking?  And yeah for the overweight BMI!

Rach- I have been sitting here and trying to think of excuse after excuse of why I haven't done the C25K yet, and since I can't think of any that actually sound reasonable, I'm keeping my mouth shut.

Liz- Have I thanked you this week for keeping the group going?  Congratulations on the loss!

Nilly- I never thought about pickles as a salty substitute.  Seeing as I'm the only one in the house that occasionally buys the vinegar and salt potato chips... duh!

Erin-I agree with Nilly, you are the smallest one here... but aside from that you are doing great.  You always seem so active... I envy that!  Also cranberry and vodka... YUM!!

Shanny- It takes a lot to show up here every week even if you aren't reporting losses.  Just doing little bits of extra activity here and there will add up, and you will begin to see it.   Do you have a walking buddy?  Sometimes just taking a stroll in the morning or at night after dinner will get your body moving and before you know it, a mile will be a walk in the park... literally!!

Take care everybody and have a great day!

Lisa

Liz- You didn't put a link up to get here... I had to go to your profile and hop the link from there... or was I just not looking hard enough?

Okay, so here I go confessing.  I've been feeling like crap lately because of my job.  We work one week and the next week everybody is off.  Blame the economy, gas prices, or whatever.  I hate job hunting, which is why I have been sticking it out for as long as I have, but it's time.  Last Friday, I went home knowing that I'm not working this week,  and I had a couple of beers.  I'm not a big drinker, so that's kind of a big deal for me, LOL.  Saturday, my dh asked me if I'd make some homemade bread (he passes by a bakery everyday on his way home from work, and the bread smells soooo good) so I make it.  I did pretty great with that, only had a slice and a half of one one later on, with NO butter.  He'd also mentioned sugar cookies, but I kind of shook it off and said, "we'll see".  So Sunday, I woke up and went to the kitchen and noticed the bananas were going bad.  What to do with brown bananas?  Anyone?  That's right!  Banana muffins!  So I cooked them up and then since I had the oven already on, I made the sugar cookies.  I think I've been doing pretty well with those, but if I haven't mentioned it before, weekends are the worst.  At least during the weeks that I work, I have structure, but on the weekends it seems, all bets are off.

I didn't do that great foodwise, and I didn't exercise at all, but I did at least limit whatever crap foods I ate.  And I did make it to the gym this morning, so that was a bonus for me.

I went material shopping last weekend, ( Labor Day Sale) and for me, baking and buying material are like crack.  I can't just do a little bit, it has to be a lot or nothing.  Anyway, I bought this material that I'm going to make a dress out of.  I on purposely bought a smaller pattern size, I think I'm going to make it a size 14, maybe a 12?  But anyway, I'm going to hang that up on my closet door so that I can see it all the time.

As Liz said, we are all going to have bad times or days, but we get back on track.  I have my strong days, and my weak ones.  I do take with me a lot of the things that are said here, like everytime I go into my bathroom I see my smaller sized pants, and I just hung up this jammy outfit that the last time I got down to 180 I bought for motivation, and I think of how everybody is doing.  I also need to go back start some of my earlier goals over again.  Namely the water intake, commitment to exercise, and the number of fruits/vegs I eat every day.   But for now, I'm glad that I went to the gym this morning instead of sitting around my house all day eating sugar cookies!  (The bread and muffins are all gone, thank you husband and kids!)

Last weeks' weight: 213.2

This week: 213.4

Hope all is well with everybody!

Sorry to be posting so late... been kinda busy and tired.  Funny, last week I was home and bored!  Didn't do the 5K, Mother Nature visited and I just didn't feel like it.  So my goal is to start this weekend.  Saturday morning to be exact!

I forgot we were supposed to do measurements again... I'll take them tomorrow morning and post them after I get off work.

But my weight last week was 215, and now its' 213.4... so thats a loss of 1.6 lbs.!  Slow and steady wins the race, LOL.

I'll write more later, glad to see everybody CAME BACK!!

Well hello everybody!

Liz- I do think we should keep the group going after 12 weeks!  Even if some people decide that either they aren't into the group anymore or some reach their goals and decide they don't need it?  Maybe to add a few more to make up for the few that have dropped out since the group started... who knows?  But I know I'm "in" for as long as we are a group!

My something new for this week?  I have downloaded the Week 1 of the Couch to 5K on my ipod... now to get out there and work it.  I might later today take my butt down to the track and make it happen for the first time.

So my weight last week was 216.6, and this morning I was 215.0, so I'm down 1.6 pounds.  Yayyy!

Gotta run for now, bye all~

Just checking in real quick...

I told myself I wasn't going to eat pizza anymore.  DH wanted ME to order it for dinner.  I ordered his Bacon Cheddar Melt (YUM!) and I ordered the kids' Hawaiian (also YUM!) and then ordered a large Vegetarian, had 2 pieces, and let my kids devour the rest.

Small steps!

Hope everybody is doing great... I don't work next week so I'll be posting a LOT!

Take care,

Lisa

Hey everybody and thanks for the welcomes!

Olivia:  How am I losing?  Mostly watching what I eat... trying to stay active.  I work during the week, which is why weekends are so craptabulous for me on account of Sat and Sun are my days off and I want to rest.  But sitting around and resting usually results in my eating a ton of bad foods... so if I can just keep myself from getting bored then I think I've won half of the battle.

Lynn... Sorry that you hurt yourself.  I'm trying to think of what you could do to not gain and the only thing I can think of if you aren't already doing it is to lessen your caloric intake due to your inactivity... lol, that's the best I can come up with.  And about your BF... a dollar store cane?  Yikes.  At least he was thinking of you in your time of need?  Maybe if he messes up you can throw it at him, make him grateful he didn't get you a wheelchair!

I'll be seeing you all more this weekend... take care!

Oh yeah, my dh wanted to order pizza tonight... I ordered his Bacon Cheddar Melt, the kids' Hawaiian... and I ordered a small Vegetarian for me.  *Patting herself on the back*

Bye!

Hey all, have you got room for one more?  I feel like I'm online during the weekends almost as much as I'm on the whole week!  I guess I'm bad.  This weekend has been really bad since I'm home by myself... Husband and a friend rode down to SF to see a preseason game this weekend, his 3 are at their moms, my oldest is at his dad's this weekend and my youngest spent the night with her friend.  I guess I should be happy with all this quiet but I'm so used to constant noise that I'm lost!

Anyway, like I was saying ( I ramble a lot if you haven't noticed) it would be nice to pop in on a weekend and see some activity.

By the way, My name is Lisa and I'm 28 (COUGH 34!) and I am currently at 216.  I started CC a little over a month ago and was 225... which is sad to say isn't my heaviest weight, but it's where I caught myself this time.  Hope everybody has a good rest of the weekend... take care!

Well, I'm checking in.  I went over my calorie limit last night by 250.  Good news is I ate mostly healthy foods, but I was really craving a bowl of cereal, and I kept trying to find something else to satisfy my taste buds.  Finally I just said "(insert cuss word here) IT!" and ate my bowl of cereal.  I felt completely satisfied afterwards and that was that.

So, how's everybody doing?  Well, I hope?

Nilly- My husband was doing the weight training stuff for a while and he has the protein powder and the supplements and such.  The best advice I can give you is go to your local gym and look around.  You can also order online, (24hourfitness.com) we've done that too.  The problem with protein powders is that it says on the label, not to be used for weight loss... I'm not a fitness expert, but I think if you replace your fat with muscle, that will result in fat loss and muscle/strength gain.  Are you working with a trainer?  I would think that increasing your strength exercises would help. A little over a year ago, I was going to the gym a lot and taking this stuff called Fat Burn 1. It is kind of spendy, or maybe I'm just cheap... $30 for a one month supply...Its supposed to be all natural, and it's also supposed to help you burn fat faster than without it.  I noticed that I did drop pounds, but like I said, I was also going to the gym 3-4 times a week.  You are supposed to drink a glass of water with it about an hour before you eat a meal, which is probably what helps fill you up so you don't eat as much.  Personally, I think if you've been doing it without a gimmick this long, why start now?  I definitely know however to stay away from things like Hydroxycut and the like, it depletes your body of all the good stuff as well as fat and it made me feel jittery the one time I took it.

Hope everybody's staying cool!  It's supposed to be 104 degrees here today, and I have to say, I don't like it when it's much above 80.

Take care,

Lisa

Thanks Liz!  I did the math after I posted yesterday, and if you multiply 7.4 x 3, it equals 22.2, and my goal is to lose 22.5 in three months, so basically if I keep it at this rate, I'm right on track.

take care!

Hey all, I'm checking in ON TIME this time, LOL.

Here's my stats:

Weight:

 Starting-225.0  current 217.6

measurements:

bust: (42.75) 42.5

waist (41) 40.5

hips (51.5) 51

So technically since I started, I have lost 7.4 lbs and 1.5 inches.  Not too bad for a month, I guess I'm thinking it would have been nicer to lose MORE, but on the same token, I didn't gain that so I should feel good.  I will definitely be exercising more, and I think if I totally cut out my cereal I will see a bigger drop next month.  Maybe *having a duh moment* since at night I crave something sweet and crunchy, maybe I'll try eating some baby carrots after dinner.  Less calories, less sugar and no fat.  I'll have to pick some up today. (As you can probably tell, up until now I haven't totally given up the cereal!)

Can't wait to see how everybody else is doing!

Take care all...

Hey all... I just read everybodys' post...

Liz... I think it's awesome that your ex and you can get along in such a fashion that you are taking his workout advice!  The only thing I take from my ex is my son home at the end of every other weekend!  What if instead of completely cutting out the pop from your diet, (you say soda, I say pop, it's an ongoing argument in my house) you cut it down at first?  I know that it does have a lot of caffeine in it, and to go off cold turkey could result in headaches and such.

Rach-just so you know, the after work time for me is ALWAYS the worst!  Thats when I need to have the most self control.  Good luck to you!

Take care all,

Lisa

PS... I just wanted to say that weighing in on Monday completely makes me accoutable over the weekend.  In the past I've been in groups that weigh in on Friday, which gives you enough time over the weekend to blow it, then start over again on Monday.  Which leaves you trying to burn off the weekends crap all damn week!!  For that, I have to thank you Liz... that was smart thinking!

Hey all!  I bought a new scale yesterday, my other one was to say the least, unreliable.  I could put it in 3 different spots and it would give me different measurements each time, so I had to go to the gym to weigh myself (which, when I think about it probably wasn't a bad idea) but I couldn't just hop outta bed then jump on the scale if you know what I mean.  This new scale is digital, and its' agreeing with me already!  My other scale would weigh me 5 lbs lighter, which was kind of disheartening because I knew the gym/dr scale would say something different.  On the way home from the store I had a little chat with the scale and told that it needs to give my weight heavier than the old scale, but not TOO heavy.  So I got it home and stepped on it, 220.0 just like I wanted!  So this morning I stepped on it just to see if it was still feeling agreeable, and it read 218.8... I feel like the wicked witch asking the mirror who is the fairest in all the land... hahaha.

I have to get to the gym today.  The last couple of mornings I've been riding my bike.  The bike seat is really uncomfortable and my butt hurts, so needless to say, the bike and I are breaking up for now.    Next week I won't have to worry so much about workouts, since I'm working again.  I don't know if I've mentioned it before but I've taken up sewing.  I have made some outfits for my girls, but I think it's one of the things that has been helping me from being bored.

I have to remind myself that weigh in is on MONDAY and the choices I make today are going to show then... talk about pressure!  LOL

Erin- Couch to 5K?  Wow girl!  Jogging is one of those things that I always hated doing and now I envy people who actually do it... great job!  What do you do for work?

TJ- I had read what you wrote before, I thought it was fine!  I got kinda pissed that your family was treating your gma like that.  To not know she would talk once she was up in her w/c?  Unbelievable!  Not to mention their accomodations for you... geez!  I was looking back on your past posts... you travel a lot... and I balk about going to the store!  LOL!!

Have a great weekend,

Take care all...

I kind of did a late Week 3 goal, I brought out a pair of size 16 pants (Old Navy) that I had in my closet, I also have the same pair in a 14, don't know if I should aim high and bring them out instead (?) and a sweater that I bought (it's a large, but it fit kinda snug when I was thinner) and I put them up on my closet door.  I would love to get a cute teddy just to put up, but the kids go in and out of my room, and I dont wanna freak them out! LOL!!

Nilly!!!-Wow, you really do know my area!  I live in Salem but work in Dallas.  I'm originally from Vancouver Wa so if people tell me something about Monmouth or Independance, I'm like, can you show me that on a map?  I've lived here for about 3 years, before this we lived in Sheridan for a year.  Tiny little town but I liked it.   Nevada?  What brought you there?  And did you dance here in Oregon?

I guess I'm going to have to pick up some Flaxseed Oil just to see if it works.  My hubs was working out for a while and has all these crazy supplements he's always telling me would be good for me, but I'm like, "Psshhaw"

I gave in to pizza last night.  My dh the night before had mentioned ordering it since we knew it was going to be hot... and hey, if I don't have to cook when it's 90 outside, I'm all for it.  I had 2 medium and 1 small piece... I'm not even going to say what KIND it was, just that it wasn't the low fat veggie kind at all!  The worst part about it is that I felt it in my gut all night!  I'm thinking of making a list of foods that make me feel crappy after I eat them, and then next to that put an explanation of how they make me feel, so that if I'm craving it again, I can look at the list and see what I'm going to feel like later... that might help me not to eat it at all... make sense?  So anyway, now I'm paying pennance and in addition to drinking a more water to account for all the sodium, going to have to stay active today.

That confession out of the way...

I live in Oregon, and like I said before, I work at an RV manufacturer.  We make 5th wheels, and I work in Dealer Prep, which gets them looking nice before they head out the door.  I caulk the ceiling trim, cut and tack trim in places where needed, ( I make it sound like a big deal but really it's not) and since sales have gotten slower these past couple months (gas prices, economy) I've been picking up sweeping and vacuuming the coaches out.  We vacuum them with a big shop vac and an attachment on the end of the hose, so that's where my cardio kicks in when I'm at work.  I get done with a coach and I'm dripping sweat.  I don't mind it, cause I know I'm burning calories... but anyway...

I need to get to the gym today.  I am kind of stuck because my mom who watches my kids during the week left and as much as I hate to admit it, I don't know if I trust my kids to be alone for an hour and a half!

I think I've rambled enough!

Take care all,

Lisa

Erin-  I'm gonna have to give that laughing cow a try... sounds awesome...I love cream cheese!

2babe- I hear what you are saying about quality of life issues.  My nonfat creamer is one of those.  You say you were on South Beach for a while?  How did that go? I did Atkins a couple of years ago, lost a bunch, but when I stopped it came right back on!

Nilly-  Have you heard back from that job yet? I keep telling myself to get down on the floor and try those excercises.  I used to do crunches when I was younger, but I think my body is rejecting them now... LOL!

Shanny- The only thing I can think of when it comes to your sweet tea if you honesltly feel like it's a problem, is fool your body and tastebuds.  Add less sugar and more water.  After a week or so, your body will have had enough time to adapt to less, and your buds won't feel like they are missing out.  I think also if you try that, and then in a week or so go back to what you are drinking now, your tea might seem overly sweet!  But that's only if you feel its really a problem with your goals.  If it's not, then it might just be a quality of life issue you shouldn't have to get rid of! HA!

I came in yesterday but I must have gotten here too early to post:) but anyway, I am down to 220 now, which means I've lost 2 lbs this week and 5 total!!  Woohoo thats the good news!

Bad news is that I've not been entering all of my foods and exercises, mostly because I when I work, I'm busting my ass for part of the day ( I work at an RV manufacturer, and we have been laid off every other week)  So those days I don't worry about recording because I have been packing pretty healthy lunches and  I'm working my tail off... but during the time (like this week) I'm home, I need to stay on track because I find myself getting depressed and wanting to sit around.  Sitting+doing nothing= being bored and eating when I'm not hungry.

So on to my goals...

Okay, here's the thing.  I'm a coffee drinker.  I love it.  I drink about the equivilant of 2-3 8oz cups a day.  I drink it with nonfat creamer.  I don't want to get rid of it.  I also eat a bowl of cereal at night.  I think that although my night munching has been good, it can always get better.  I'll give up my bowl of cereal!

I'm so glad to hear that everybody is doing great!  And I'm so sorry I haven't been posting... but this week I've got nothing better to do, so I'm going to be here A LOT!!

Okay, as I walked away from the computer to refill my water, it occured to me... my bonus answer!

When I'm sitting down to a meal, I usually eat until I'm STUFFED.  Like, I know I should stop eating when I'm FULL, but I've still got food on my plate... or the (insert name of food here) tasted so good, I want another couple bites...

So my therapy session clock I'm sure is about up...

Okay, so the past couple of days I haven't done so great.  I hit the gym on Sunday and did a whole hour of cardio.  That's huge for me.  I had big intentions of hitting the gym again on Monday, didn't make it, Tuesday didn't make it and didn't even care to make plans to go yesterday.  Today though, I did make it.  And I ate 2 hamburger patties last night, and I felt so bloated and gross today, that was a huge lesson to me.  I've been feeling better today since I went to the gym, kind of my vindication so hopefully the scale tells me I did a good job on my weigh in on Monday.

So on to my 5 reasons.  These mental exercises by the way, are taking LOTS of soul searching.

1.  I am a closet eater.  I don't eat a lot in front of other people, but then I can go home and eat damn near a whole batch of cookie dough.

2.  I eat when I am bored.  Which means that if I'm sitting in front of the TV and I start to get antsy like I need to do something, I'll start thinking about the refridgerator or the pantry and thinking of what I've got in there that would be good.

3.  Partly, and this is digging REAL deep, I think I haven't done much about my weight because when you lose weight you start to attract attention.  When a guy or a family member or anybody says to me, "Wow Lisa, you really look good" I smile and say thank you, but inside I panic.  How messed up is that?

4.  I also think I self medicate with food.  Having a bad day?  Cold and crappy outside?  Get into an argument with somebody?  Feel lonely?  Fix up a nice batch of homemade mac and cheese, or lets have some KFC, that will make everything better!!

5.  I'm a creature of habit.  On the days I work, I can get by with eating whatever alotted food I have prearranged for myself and be fine.  Its when I'm home after work, or have a weekend that I eat all kinds of no no foods, ( I guess I validate that with, this is my off time, I don't feel like cooking... lets do BK or McD's) ... and pairing that with not working out equals expanded waistlines and larger asses!

I think Babs is right in posting everyday.  If anything, just to say, "Hey, I flipped off the ice cream section at Safeway as I walked on by" or something like that!

Take care all,

Lisa

Hi I just wanted to check in!

Liz- you asked me how I've been doing on the late night snacking.  I think I've been doing pretty good actually.  I have taken up sewing, so it's giving me "something to do" other than watching TV, and it keeps me focused... and before I sit down, I go to the kitchen and grab a big glass of water.  I drink on that before I go to bed.

That's it for now...

Happy Weekend Laughing!!

Okay, so I had to think long and hard about why I wanted to lose weight.

#1.  To get out of Womens size clothing.

#2.  To feel better about myself.

#3.  To feel healthier

#4.  To look better

#5.  So when I see pictures of myself, I'm not embarrassed by them

I was also wondering how you get those weight tickers on your pages.  If anybody could instruct me, I'd appreciate it, thanks!
