What i found from the book is that, while they give a ton of good advice about eating natural and pure ingredients and sticking to basics, some of it is just too unrealistic for the average person. plus there's so much contradictory advice from other sources, particularly about caffeine. some studies say caffeine is great for you right before you work out, that it boosts metabolism, etc. plus,as i was reading i never really felt thee people were entirely qualified to be giving out advice. i mean, one's a model and one's a writer (or something like that). they did a ton of research but neither is a nutritionist, doctor, etc...just two skinny vegans really.
the best thing you could do is read the book and see what's realistic for you from it. at least that's what i took from it. |

| Health & Support | How to stop counting calories!!?? HELP! | Jun 25 2009 02:59 (UTC) |

Much like someone else mentioned, the best way I learned to stop counting calories as much as I could was to be more spontaneous with what I ate. The hardest thing I could ever do (and the best) was to eat things without knowing the calories. For example, I'd go to a local bakery (NOT one like dunkin' donuts or Starbucks that you can look up the nutritionals) or cafe and get something there. It could be a 12" Meatball Grinder or a Teeny Weeny Fat Free Parfait...you just won't know the calories! Sure, you could guess all you want but let's face it..you really don't know..and it's LIBERATING to not know!!! The first time I did it, I woke up the next day realizing I was still the same person whether or not I tallied my calories or not. Start small, eat what's comfortable to you. Then hey, have a field day. |

ok so during the week i let a few bananas ripen really well and then i mash them up with a few splenda packets and cinnamon. then i freeze the mashed mixture. i use the sugarfree vanilla jello pudding packets and make a modified version of the stuff. it says the use a half cup of skim milk but i usually use a quarter cup of skim and a quarter cup of water. i use half of the pudding mix and part of the mashed banana mixture chopped up. usually about 50 cal worth of banana and half the pudding mixture has about 25 cal...aka a deliciiouuussss banana pudding mixture for 75 cal. so good...so good. |

ohh what a fun one! WELL, I work at Friendly's and one time I was there during a snowstorm and it was DEAD. Needless to say, I attacked the ice-cream. The Hunka Chunka Peanut Butter Fudge ice cream was my drug of choice along with the swirl softserve. I htink I had the equivelant of maybe 3 sundaes (i dumped marshmallow sauce all over it too). After that, I moved on to the fried food, where I literally just walked into the kitchen and dumped a bag of waffle fries into the frialator. Then, I poured myself some honey mustard dressing with my huge basket of fries and dug right in. I grabbed a few chicken tenders along the way too! I also have majorly binged on pizza, usually around 6 slices when I get going. After I eat something salty or sweet though I HAVE to counter it with the opposite. SO basically if I binge on somethign fried I'll go right over to a box of cookies or ice cream after...or both if i'm lucky to have them near each other. After these binges i would HATE myself and feel guilty, but I've learned to laugh at them later and realize it's not the end of the world. |

| Health & Support | Thinking a friend has an ED? | Aug 20 2008 16:02 (UTC) |

I have to disagree with positivelinny. 2000 calories a day can absolutely be restrictive if she is not consuming enough calories to compensate for running ten miles. I'm still in recovery from Anorexia Nervosa, and I have learned that there is no magic number of calories that a person intakes to qualify as suffering from the disease. If a person is not eating enough to maintain a healthy weight, then there's a problem. The one thing I can reccommend to you is look for behaviors in her you saw in yourself when you had your ED. Remember all the sneaking around everyone to eat, the CONSTANT picking at what was on your plate and pacing around the dining hall to find something to eat? If things start to look like that, then you should talk to her. |
