The age limit was put on gymnastics because it was proven that the elite level that you need to compete at in Olympic gymnastics is harmful to their bodies/development when they're that young. Of course, girls train at the level and age all the time but they don't want to support it at the Olympics. I know the Chinese are generally smaller the most and gymnasts tend to be also, but 4'5 68 pounds seems extreme for a 16 year old, don't 'cha think? By the way, I don't mean to seem like a crazy US fan because the Chinese have some really talented young girls, I just feel like if there's going to be an age limit it needs to be enforced because who's to say other countries don't have amazing young girls out there? .. end of my rants I swear, and back to work :) |

Couple things.. First of all, the games have been great so far!! Props to China on the opening ceremonies, they were pretty good. Beach volleyball is pretty popular in the US., Brazil, a lot of Europe.. I play volleyball pretty often and believe me, it's so much harder (and fun, IMO) in the sand. And about the women's 'apparel'... The bikinis may seems little skimmpy, but if you've ever been sweaty and rolled around the sand you'd understand. Wearing things like bathing suits and sportbras prevent sand from getting into unwanted places, ya know? :) Rant... I don't know if anyone follows gymnastics, but there's talk that at least two of the Chinese gymnasts are not 16, which is the age limit to compete in the Olympics. It frustrates the heck out of me because there really is nothing anyone can do about it because they have 'valid' passports saying they're 16... so pretty much no one other than those girls and the Chinese gov. will ever really know. The deal is here have been articals and what not from 2006 and 2007 calling these girls 12 and 13, which certainly doesn't make them magically 16 now!! But aside from that, I have total faith in our team and they can win without cheating :) anyways, Saw the men's relay race last night.. amazinggg! |

I totally know what you mean and that is soo frustrating!! Just know this.. although she may be 'maintaning' for now, unless she continues with this 'diet' of hers (even if she's lightened up on it, she will eventually gain weight back. You on the other hand, look like you have adopted a lifestyle change. You are going to keep the weight off and be healthy! You may not see the results you want now, but keep at it and you will. Concentrate on yourself and what you have accomplished cause you're doing a great thing!! |

I'd love to join! I'm 5'5, 19 years old, and fluctuate anywhere between 149-154. Last year while I was away at school I managed to lose about 10 pounds (down from about 156) and I felt great.. of course I also managed to gain most of it back after I accomplished my goal :/ I'm typically I healthy eaiter; always been a fruits and veggies person, but snacking is my weakness! I'm in pretty good shape but am often just too lazy get out there and burn some calories! (friends also don't help with this..) Anyways the new school year starts 2 weeks from Monday so it's time to get back on the wagon! Looking forward to this challenge!! |

| Weight Loss | Has anyone ever had friends or co-workers deliberately try to sabotage your diet? | Aug 06 2008 13:39 (UTC) |

This used to happen to me after I had lost a bit of weight. I didn't have much to lose so it was pretty noticeable. It really bothered me because I had/have a few friends that were still quite a bit thinner than I was and they used to 'joke' about how skinny I was. I would have taken it more as a compliment but then we would go to the cafeteria to eat (I was away at school) and when I would have a salad and some soup for lunch they would complain I wasn't eating enough. Just because I'm not choosing the chicken fingers, fries, pasta bar, and desert, doesn't mean I'm not eating enough!! So frustrating!! Hang in there though and friends/family will come around after the change has set in a little more. Congrats on the weight loss! |

Not sure if you plan on carrying anything around with you, but when I go to Cedar Point, I try to being small snacks that won't get ruined during the day so you only have to eat one 'bad' meal (assuming you'll be there for a while) But like mortalmonkey said, you'll be burning a lot of calories while you're there so don't sweat it too much, just have fun!! |

| Weight Loss | 20lbs down- but no one has noticed!! | Aug 05 2008 16:33 (UTC) |

First of all before I say anything, CONGRATS on the 20 pounds! That's amazing and you should be super proud of yourself!! Don't get discouraged because no one has said anything yet. Sometimes people are cautious of mentioning people's weight (whether positvely or negatively) since it's a touchy subject to most, especially us girls :) The most important thing is how great you look and feel, the compliments will come your way soon eniough, I'm sure! I didn't have much weight to lose, but I had lost about 7 pounds while I was away at school and it wasn't until I came home and saw people I hadn't seen in a few months that I started to get some feedback. It's hard to tell sometimes when you see people on a regular basis. Again, congrats! :) |

| Weight Loss | GRRRR - how have I hit a plateau at only 10 days???? | Aug 04 2008 17:24 (UTC) |
1 |
I am also not an expert, but I highly doubt you've hit a 'plateau'. Like alle0299 said, it's quite possible that all of the weight you lost Friday wasn't fat, and consequently the 2 pounds you gained probably wasn't fat either. Personally, my weight fluctuates like that all the time. Sometimes I'll randomly weigh myself and be down 2 or 3 pounds when I know I shouldn't have lost any weight. Don't get frustrated or impatient just yet. Also, make sure you're weighing youself generally on the same day around the same time. I like to weigh in Friday mornings right when I get up after I've got to the bathroom and it seems to give the most consistent results. Stick to it and the weight will come off! |

Hmm, wish I knew, sure would make picking a major easier! I have an internship as a 'buyer' (supply chain management field) and before this I had no idea what it was so I'm kind of liking this right now; also considering HR, and mayyybe Marketing. I'm double majoring in German so working for a German company would be pretty practical, I'd say! When I was younger I wanted to be a vet.. then I realized I really really don't like that kind of science :) |

I'm with you on the big arms thing! I was a gymnast when I was younger and then I played volleyball so my arms have alllways been muscley... I suppose I would rather them be toned than flabby but 'toned' for me looks like I could bench press a person, lol, which believe me, I can't! They aren't that strong, the just look it! |

Original Post by teralea: Here's a little sub-question for anyone who see's this.. What do you do for a living and what did/do you want to do for a living? I'm curios to see how many people end up doing what they thought they wanted to do, I'm only 19 so I haven't quite gotten to that point in my life yet... |

I'm 5'6" 19, and about 151 right now. Highest weight was around 162 like 2 years ago.. My goal weight is 135 but I really have no idea how I'll feel at that weight cause the last time I weighed that I was like 13 (I have a medium frame and pretty muscular build- used to be a gymnast) |

| The Lounge | Are All Women Sexist? | Jul 30 2008 21:41 (UTC) |

I wouldn't consider myself sexist, but I can say that a LOT of women are. That said though, i think there are an equal number (if not more) sexist men out there. The difference is that most of the time, the way men are sexist towards women has been the norm for so long that it's overlooked... |

I could not agree more. I opened this thread interested to see what people had to say (which I still am, don't get me wrong) but I was shocked and a little disappointed to read all of these posts. The purpse of sites like this are to promote healthy, happy, people- healthy being the key word. At 5'6 and 150 pounds I know I could stand to lose a good 15 pounds. Seeing people at my height post on here that their 'happiest weight' was around 110 pounds... I'm not sure I know anyone with a frame small enough to make 5'6 and 110 a 'heathy' weight. Anyways, I'm not trying to attack anyone, just be concious of what you're posting and where! Back to the original post.. HW: 163 Lowest adult weight: maybe around 130 Happiest: Somewhere around 135 would be great! |
