Thanks everyone for the advise! I'll definitely just have to start out slow and work up to a more advanced workout.

I agree with what everyone else has said.... on a side note, you should also make sure you're giving yourself enough self care. You said you stretch which is good, but what might also help to loosen all your muscles up is to get a tennis ball and place it under the arch of your foot, and just massage it around a bit. Hold some pressure in the soar spots until you can feel them loosen up. That should help a lot with the pain.

cajunrider... you're totally right. Everything you said just made so much sense. The reason I obsess about it is because I say I won't eat something and the next i'm eating it and making excuses for why i ate it, and then I think about how i'm going to eat flawlessly for a week to make up for it. And it just cycles over and over. I do need to pick a plan and stick to it. Thank you.

ifeelnothingatall, we really are in very similar situations. My daily train of thought is usually very similar to yours, and it's depressing... but that's why we're going to make a change.

Hi Everyone!

I hope you don't mind that I joined. I've always been pretty health conscious, but I let myself slip in college and gained quite a bit of weight. I was just looking for a good support group that would help me be more accountable about my weight loss.

To fill you in... I've been living at home for the past few months finishing the last prerequisites that I need for Chiropractic college. I was already accepted to the college, and I start in January. My goal is to lose 25 lbs, but I think that might be a little to much weight to lose in less than 3 months. I do want to lose as much as I possibly can to get close to my normal size before I move... new city new me kinda deal.

My biggest fault is with carbs and sugar. I tend to eat really healthy, but usually once I start eating the processed I foods or carbs or whatever I just keep eating more because I can. That's actually my biggest problem, I eat too much. My goal is to shrink my stomach, but I have to eat less in order to do that!  Hopefully this group can help!

The calf thing is directly connected to your organs. Certain muscle groups and organs in the body share blood vessels, nerves, etc (not the best medical explanation) so when your liver, or colon, or small intestine, or whatever other organ is intoxicated, you often feel it in different muscle groups. It's just like when people have heart problems and they get intense pain, or tightness in their left arm.

I used to get the calf thing every time I drank, but if you make sure to down 2 or 3 glasses of water before you pass out, it should help.

Weight Loss NO Cardio To Lose Weight?? Aug 15 2009

It just means that the amount of exercise/cardio that most people normally do (30min to an hour) isn't substantial enough to make you lose weight without changes in your diet. But if you're changing your diet, restricting calories, changing the foods you eat, ect, then exercise will slightly speed up your weight loss.

But you also have to remember that exercise also tones you and makes you lose inches as opposed to pounds.... there is a big difference in how a 5'9" girl who weights 150 and doesn't work looks and one who does work out looks.

I feel like a bad person right now. I couldn't help myself and ordered a mocha this morning! then I got on here and started reading your guy's posts and I just feel aweful! I've only had about a 1/4 of the drink... but I'm tossing it! Thanks for being so good, I feel like a failure.

I do feel a lot better though. I have more energy... not necessarily right now b/c I stayed up too late and had to be to work really early, but in general. (I'm blaming sleep depravation for my poor choice!) I think I might not be drinking enough water though, and that's not so good.

But food wise I've just been sticking to fruit, veggies, lean meats and oatmeal. My body feels a lot less bloated, but now i feel overwhelmingly guilty and I don't want to drink the rest of the mocha, but I don't want to waste a $4 drink either... this will just have been a week moment and I'll stay away from sugar. I haven't even been eating any kind of breads or anything. I did have two corn tortillas made by the ezekiel brand.

I should just keep all of you in the back of my mind everytime I eat or drink something!

Today is day 2 of the no sugar, salt or processed foods. Pretty much all I've eaten is some fruits, vegetables, eggs and chicken. It's really no that bad. I haven't been craving any breads or sugars or anything, but I REALLY want salt! Eggs with out salt are not the same, but it will be over tomorrow. I'm really going to work on eating like this 90% of the time. I feel great, and I don't really want to eat when i'm not hungry... maybe it's because the food is kinda boring and it makes me think about whether or not I'm actually hungry.

Everyone else seems to be doing really well. Missmontana it sounds like you're eating really healthy! Good Job! And for future reference "Put the cookie down!" haha

Yes fruit sugars are definitely ok.

My dad is going to run a urine analysis on me on tuesday, so I can't eat any sugar, salt or seasoning, and I'm pretty much limited to eating lean protein and raw vegetables with minimal fruit for the next 2 days. This should be a good kick start to my diet!

I did so good all day yesterday... then I finally met my neighbors and they invited me over and offered me a drink and stupidly i took it. It was only like half a soda, but it was still sugar. I'm not going to beat myself up about it though, I'm just going to continue to stay away from sugar, and If i drink alcohol tonight I have to chase it with water! haha. Little steps... I won't have ANY sugar today!

How did everyone else do?

As far as breakfast goes, I usually stick to eggs and maybe a piece of toast with cream cheese, or some fruit. Oatmeal is still good without sugar. If you put pieces of apple in about 30 seconds before the oatmeal is actually done cooking and add some cinnamon you won't need sugar at all.

Suprisingly I'm doing well today. I haven't really been craving it. I had a couple grapes this morning, drank my coffee only with cream and I'm feeling pretty good!

Good job vanessa you can do it!

Day 1 and I'm excited some of you are joining! I feel good about this and I've gone without sugar before and I know it feels great... but sugar is kind of like a drug. It makes you feel like crap once the effect gone, so you crave it again. So I'm staying away from it.

I mean processed/added sugar. Just like staying away from sweets, no adding sugar to tea or coffee, no honey all that stuff. And say maybe limit fruit to a serving or two a day. If a food has say 4 grams of sugar it's game, but no sugary cereals as such

Okay you may shrink a couple cups sizes back to a C... I'm sorry, but why are you complaining?!?!?!? When I gain weight I'm a full A cup... when I lose, there isn't much of a reason to wear a bra anymore, and I'm 5'9"! haha  It's semi-depressing to hear that you guys get bigger than a C and I can't even graduate from the A's.

Health & Support Constipated... some TMI here... Apr 05 2009

It sounds like you might have some sort of inflammation, and It really depends on many factors... Do you eat lots of sugar substitutes? Could you possibly have an allergy to gluten? Are you eating a lot of processed foods? For me I know that when I'm overdoing splenda or if I drink diet coke more than once or twice a week, that can constipate me. I also have an allergy to gluten, and it's not an extremely noticable allergy. But it does cause inflamation in my intestines, and sometimes makes my body feel swollen if I'm constatly eating it. I even have a hard time with soy if I'm eating too much of that. There are many foods that are supposedly "healthy", like whole wheat bread and pastas, that can cause inflammation in your bowels if you have this allergy. Maybe try laying off gluten and/or sugar substitutes (if those are something you use) for a week and see how everything goes.

If you don't think that's what it is, it could very well be that your intestines are backed up/ inflammed for other reasons, and you may just want to start eating really clean for a while to see if that helps. There is also this really good cleanse you can buy that is all natural, it's kind of expensive but it has really helped a lot of people. You can view it on the link below.

http://www.drnatura.com (make sure you read the testimonials and look at the pictures of what will come out of you... it doesn't look like it's real, but it is! (and it's completely painless) I've had some similar stuff, I never finished the cleanse because I'm lazy, but I was planning on starting up again for real this time)

If that's too expensive you can just go to your local health food store and buy some psyllum husks, and drink about a tablespoon mixed in water every morning. That will really help clean you out, and it's totally painless. It shouldn't make you have the runs or anthing, but it will soften you stools a little.

Well I really hope this helps... please let me know if it does!

protein definitely makes muscle, it's the building block for muscle. It doesn't necessarily have to be animal protein, you can get protein from many different food sources like beans, some vegetables, etc... but you do need protein to build muscle.

I have to be a snob when it comes to junk food. I tell myself it's below me to eat it... even though I know it's so good. That usually helps me, and I haven't eaten fast food in over 2 years, and I don't remember the last time I had a cheese burger or donut... kinda makes me sad :( haha

I love making my own sweet potato fries to go with eggs. You can stick the sweet potato in the microwave for a minute or two to speed up the cooking, then cut it into fries, put about 1tsp olive oil in the pan and season with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and a little crushed red pepper. So yummy, and only about 100 calories, give or take, if you use half a large potatoe with 1tsp olive oil.

I also really like cooking up zucchini with eggs, it's refreshing.

Lately I've been making a really good alternative to a breakfast sandwich. I use 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites fried. Then I use corn thins, instead of bread, only 22 calories a piece (you can usually find them near rice cakes in the grocery store). And I either use a little ketchup, cream cheese, salsa, or jam on the corn thin and make a sandwich out of it. I know the ketchup/ jam may not sound appealing but I like it. You could even use some turkey bacon in it, or your sausage. If you let it sit for about 30 seconds, the heat softens the corn thins, and when you bite into the yoke... soooo good!- don't forget salt and pepper!

That article that was posted was really good. It's totally true, I have a hard time not getting disappointed by the scale, but I also use a tape measure and record my measurements every few weeks or so. I've lost a half inch on each of my thighs, about an inch around my butt/hips, and about an inch off my stomach. That always makes me feel better. Maybe you should try that :).

Weight Loss HELP - I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO HUNGRY!!!! Mar 27 2009
14:21 (UTC)

Nutbox, take it from me, unless you're doing it purely to rid yourself of toxins it's really NOT worth it! I have done the cleanse successfully twice for 7 days (no food what-so-ever) at a time. It was amazing! I felt great, my skin looked flawless, and I lost about 12 pounds each time I did it. But everytime the cleanse was over I couldn't stop myself from eating everything in sight. You will gain every ounce of weight back once the cleanse is over, and it even tells you that in the book. It sounds like a very attractive diet, but it's not a diet and If you don't break the fast the right way, you'll be in for a world of pain.

But what your doing now sounds good anyway. If you want to cleanse your body you can always just go on a fruit and veggie cleanse. Eat nothing but fruits and vegetables and maybe drink the lemonade with it. The loss won't be as dramatic, but it will also be easier to maintain yourself when your done.

I just realized that sounded really caty, t_legge I know what you're talking about and I agree with you, my 1st response was not very well worded at all. But it is possible to manipulate the abs in different ways, to strengthen it in different ways. flogginsully I don't understand why your being rude, when you work your abs you don't only work one muscle. you can target one, but all of them aid in the movements.

Fitness Toning lower belly... Mar 25 2009

Oh my god I'm so sorry I should have been more specific, by lower I meant deep and up upper I meant more superficial. The abdominal muscles work like a girdle, and each one plays a role in every movement of the core. I know how the stomach works. Have you ever seen a human cadaver by chance? I have, and the different layer of muscles originate at different points of the body and insert into different parts of the body. The muscles also run in different directions, so they pull the stomach in in different ways/ they are responsible for different actions, but they also work synergistically with each other, and by doing different types of abdominal exercise you can tighten the stomach in different ways. For example when you do body boards, all the ab muscles engage; then when you do a side plank depend on what side, the prime ab muscle/ the muscle that is doing the most work is the oblique. When you do leg swings all ab muscles are working as well, but as you move the position of your legs each muscle takes on a different role. When you do a stationary crunch all of your abdominal muscle are working, but the rectus abdominus is doing most of the work, because its primary movement is to flex and extend the trunk.

I did word that wrong before, there's no need to freak out.
