Weight Loss If I only drink my calories...is that bad? Jul 10 2008

I am a new comer to forums myself so not sure what I can contribute but here goes ... alcohol contains high amount of calories. and it contains no other nutrients. while your other foods contain a combination of proteins, carbs, fat minerals and vitamins etc.

Part of alcohol is actually broken down in your liver i think. I believe the process is similar to some body building steriods taken orally. 17 methyl alkylated chemicals are broken down in the liver and this increases liver values considerably. While the liver is built to whitstand certain amount of abuse, over working your liver could lead to conditions like jaundice and in severe cases necrosis of the tissue causing death. But thats in really extreme cases. However, stressing the liver also reduces the rate of absorption of nutrients by your body.

I would suggest staying off of alcohol while dieting. unless you are comfortable with the way you are at the moment and you dont need to work much more than do regular maintainence.

Weight Loss My boyfriend is an idiot Jul 10 2008

Well,

I am not sure I have anything useful to add other than reiterate what the other members have said before. But in his stupidity your boyfriend might actually end up getting to his goals depending on what his current diet looks like.

While I definitely dont support starvation, I remember a while ago I was on a ketogenic diet. It was a little similar to your boyfriend's current position. Eat rather little, but what ever little you do eat, keep the Carbs to an extreme low, high proteins and high fat ( yeah you read that right ). This forces the body to use fat as its source of energy rather than using carbohydrates and the body starts producing ketones.

If done properly, ketogenic diet would help you lose trememndous amount of body fat in a short time. the problem with keto diet is, its extremely hard to maintain, takes a lot of effort and a lot of patience, and you are going to feel tired and lethargic all the time but you can't let that stop you from working out.

Other than that, ideally speaking a normal person would require atleast 2000 calories a day for maintainence alone. My diet averages around 3000 to 3500 calories on an average day. I am around 6ft1 weigh 212 lbs and have 8% body fat. I weight train for 90 to 120 minutes a day with 40 minutes hi intensity cardio. I compete  in BB.

regards
