Original Post by jodiferjuniper: Thanks for your kind words and support. I really hope that she beats it too. She is the most important woman in my life and I can't imagine what I would do without her. She is strong, and this has proven to be extremely beneficial to her positive outlook. I just wish I hadn't moved so far away from my family for a job, but.....it's all I could have done. I always strive to do better in life and my parents supported my move -- I just feel guilty because I'm not there. I will try to get back on the diet train in January once the holidays are over. Right now, life's an emotional roller coaster and I don't want to try to set goals that I can't achieve (and then deal with my failure...). Thanks again to everyone who has offered their thoughts and support. I'm thinking of many of your successes and using this as a tool to motivate me to stay positive. Thanks!!! |

Well I was doing fine until I received some bad family news. My mom has cancer. I'm going to stop counting calories for now because I have too much on my plate (what a terrible pun) but I wish all of you the best of luck with everything you do. |

paperbackrider -- thanks for the wonderful suggestion!! I actually live close to an Avenue store -- I just didn't know what they were about. It happens that they might actually have what I need! :) Small world, eh? I'll definitely check them out this weekend! mkitsin -- I will need to check out the Gap online. I usually have a hard time ordering clothes online because you can't try them on and I have an oddly shaped body (apparently) :) I will have to look, though, because I really like the Gap (I just didn't know that they had larger sizes--thanks for letting me know!!) gpm55 -- I looked at Dillards and found some really cute "casual" wear, but not much that seemed appropriate for work. I'll need to look around or try another Dillards because maybe their selection is different, depending on the store location. Thanks for the suggestion and I'll definitely keep this in mind! mamarose -- I've never heard of CJ Banks but will look for it online. Thanks for the suggestion!!! Thanks to everyone who has provided input. I think I might have a better chance of looking stylish at work now that I have your opinions!! Thanks so much and I welcome any comments from anyone who has additional suggestions!!! |

There's always low cal pigs in a blanket with Hebrew National 97% fat free hot dogs. I like the Hungry Girl site: http://www.hungry-girl.com/. Their "Girls Bite Out" and "Chew the Right Thing" pages have GREAT suggestions. I'm sure lot of us are having parties towards the end of this month, so let us know what you liked and didn't like about the food! :) Good luck!! |

susiecue - thanks for the information. It's hard to know exactly who's telling the truth and when. Of course the Sugar Counsil has a vested interest in selling real sugar, but it's worth hearing both sides to try and muddle through the nonsense. I definitely notice a difference now that I'm dieting without artificial sweetners. Less headaches, less bloated feeling, and I don't have that AWFUL taste of artificial sweetners on my tongue :) |

Thanks for the comments. There's a Cato nearby, so I think I'll try that place out. How is Cato's long-term quality? Are the prices reasonable? I also like TJ Maxx and they have some things, but they don't always have everything in my size. I've also noticed that a lot of plus-size clothing is made of 100% polyester. I'm trying to target not-100%-polyester type material :) I'll have to check out these suggestions. Any other ideas? Any mail-order or online stores? What about Chico? Is that a good plus-size brand? |

Hmm...well I've lost a few pounds but I'm not sure how it'll work out in the long term. I started at 208 lbs. Sunday and I'm down to 202 today (but that's not an official weigh-in). I'll let you know when I weigh-in again :) |

Thanks so much for your comments. I will try to look at Anne Klein and Jones NY. I guess I'll also have to give the department store tailor a try. I'm not that big but I wonder whether my calling is to make fabulous, professional clothing for larger women that doesn't make you look like you're wearing a curtain!!! ARGH If anyone else could chime in on what they do, I'd really appreciate it!! |

You're probably not eating enough calories. You might think about adding your daily activity to the burn meter to see how many calories you actually burn per day. Your body is probably going into starvation diet if you are that active. Another thing to try is zig-zagging. You can use a calculator here: http://www.naturalphysiques.com/tools.php?ite mid=64. Basically, the idea is that you don't plateau and you don't put your body into starvation mode, which may be the reason your body is resisting right now. I'm only on day two of zig-zagging but so-far-so-good! :) I don't feel like I'm starving myself, I have more energy, I'm not moody, and I can treat myself every now and then if I have the calories left over. (Did you know that the fun-size Kit-Kats only have 67 calories in each one!??!) :) Good luck and don't stop trying. We're all rooting for you!! |

| Weight Loss | Anyone know about calorie cycling? | Oct 07 2008 19:34 (UTC) |

Yes, I have heard of this but I've heard it called zig-zagging. I went onto a website and found a calculator that helps indicate how many calories you should eat each day. I'm only on day two, but I found that I didn't feel so starved for food because I could eat 1778 calories yesterday. Today is 1616 and it bounces back and forth all week. I'll tell you, though: I feel better today than I have in a long time. I'm not exhausted (which I think is a side effect of only eating 1300 calories per day), I'm not moody, and I don't feel like I need something bad to make me feel better because I know I can have a snack-size KitKat when I get home :) I can also eat a regular meal that makes me feel satiated. Another bonus: I don't feel hungry. Maybe that's because I'm eating too many calories :) but I think it's because I actually can eat when I'm hungry, which I heard was a good rule to follow when zig-zagging!!! The website I visited was: http://www.naturalphysiques.com/tools.php?ite mid=64 There's a calculator here that you can use :) Good luck everyone!!! |

fitnessmodel130 -- You certainly need rewards -- just not the bad ones :) You're doing really great, though, so don't give up on yourself. If you're already running in a 5k (I doubt I could do one), you're already miles (like that pun?) ahead of a lot of people on this site and you're serving as a motivator for those people!! Keep it up. We'll start new everyday, even if the night before was a good one. Good or bad, let's take it one day at a time!! chonphansa -- thanks for the words of encouragement. Everyone needs to hear these things! We're all great people trying to make ourselves better!!! h8ylylouise -- Congrats on the success of day 1!! Keep it going!! You can SO do this!! |

I've heard this but I agree with you, I haven't seen any studies on Splenda...I used to use it all the time before I swore off artificial sweetners (only because I heard it hinders weight loss). I just checked out the Sugar Council's site: truthaboutsplenda.com and it indicates that Splenda is made from Chlorine!!! Hmmmmm....I'm re-thinking my position on Splenda. Maybe everyone should have a chance to look at this. Apparently, there's a class-action lawsuit claiming that Johnson & Johnson (manufacturer of Splenda) mislead consumers by saying that splenda is made from sugar. Hmph...

Original Post by love-bears-all: love-bears-all: No kidding. I failed again this weekend, but I'm going to start zig-zagging. I think that my bingeing might have been prompted by the restrictive diet (1300 calories). My body ws craving something "bad" and since I was denying it of what it wanted, I wanted it more. So, yesterday was my first day of not denying myself things that I want. I just have to fit them in, calorically speaking :) I wonder if this will help on the weekends. I'm also concerned whether I am eating too many calories. I used a calculator on a website for "extreme fat loss" and these are the caloric values per day: Sunday 1616 Monday 1778 Tuesday 1616 Wednesday 1940 Thursday 1616 Friday &nb sp; 2101 Saturday 1616
How does this sound? Reasonable? Too many calories? What do you think? |

Welcome back to CC and I wish you nothing but the best of luck. I am stuck just above the 200 lb. mark (though I gained 8 lbs. this weekend from being pretty bad on Sunday). I'm trying something called zig-zagging to help avoid any plateaus. I also need to start working out. :) |

fitnessmodel130 - I know how you feel. I always think that the food is what I want but then I feel like crap because I gave in. I also had some ice cream -- the grocery store had them buy one, get one free. That's NEVER a good thing. I'm starting fresh again today (and usually do every Monday), but I have very little problems during the week--I dread the weekends. |

I'm not sure if this thread is closed to new people but I would like to lose some weight before Xmas. A little information about me: CW: 208 (eek-gained 8 this weekend!) GW: 145 I'd like to lose 20 lbs. by x-mas. Is this unreasonable? I'm having a hard time during the weekends. I'm totally screwing myself every week but it feels so good to eat. My dangerous food right now is halloween candy. It's everywhere and I'm throwing a party at the end of this month - so it's not like I can kepe it somewhere else :) ARGH!! I really really need to stop this nonsense but I lose all motivation!! |

Argh -- I'm back to do some confessing -- I totally binged out this weekend. Friday was great -- On Saturday I did pretty well too. Then came Sunday. Oh, dreaded Sunday. I'm not sure how many calories I actually ate (it makes me feel better to not know how BADLY I'm screwing myself up) but I know that when I weighed myself today, I gained 4 lbs. just on Sunday (well, who knows how much will STICK but this is pretty bad!!! I just feel so terrible but I do this every weekend (and I feel like things are getting worse). argh! Sorry -- I just need to vent so I'll start to feel better |

Yes, I agree that having CC easily accessible while at home and work really helps me stay motivated (not to mention the little numbers on the scale getting smaller and smaller). I was having a hard time "sticking" to a diet and thought that I could lose some weight by simply exercising and eating the same way but it didn't help. Sometimes, just losing a couple of pounds is motivation enough to stick to it. Another thing that was a big motivator was exercise. Realizing how much work it was to burn those extra calories really encouraged me to stay away. I didn't want to have to work out more than I needed to, so that motivated me enough to keep bad snacks away from me :) I have now found my struggle of not eating more than I should on the weekends. This weekend, however, will be different. I will log all of my calories, even if I go above-and-beyond my limit...just to give myself an idea of what I'm doing to myself every weekend (lose a few pounds just to gain it back that weekend). Good luck!! |

| Weight Loss | calorie total for the week? | Oct 03 2008 17:21 (UTC) |
7 |
No, it's not the same thing because your caloric needs are computed daily, not weekly. I don't know why there is a difference, but there is. You should compute your caloric needs on a daily basis and find a comfortable place where you are feeling satiated but still are losing weight. Why are you trying to calculate weekly? Did you see that somewhere? To try to balance caloric intake and weight loss, one should typically start consuming aboput 500-1000 calories less than one burns each day. Your activity level can be calculated using the Burn Meter on CC. Good luck! |

I think it depends on the person. I had a harder time trying to lose weight when I was consuming artificial sweetners. Now, I just try to watch my calories and avoid the sweetners, and I am finding myself to be more successful. Try it out for a few weeks and see what you think. I drink a bottle of Vitamin Water with lunch (it only has 125 calories in 20 oz), and then I usually drink lots of water the rest of the day. Good luck! |

It sounds like you might need some targeted resistance training, just for the legs. There are always "side effects" from working out, which might include more muscle in your bottom but this can't be a bad thing, right? :) I know I've heard that the stair climbing machines can make your bottom larger from the muscle gain, but what about walking or lunges? Good luck! |

aarian -- thanks for your message. I'm interested to know whether you had 2 1000mcg injections every two weeks. I'm currently taking 1000mcg per week but the weight loss clinic said that I could do this twice per week. I've definitely noticed an increase in my energy level and I was not feeling this with the sublingual tables of B-12. I also notice when I'm near my "injection date" because my knees start to ache again :) and that's when I know I'm due for another injection. Now if I could just do it myself, I wouldn't have to keep paying someone to do it for me :) |
