Thanks to all of you for your very usefull responses. I agree that 90/10% is probably a better balance if I want to continue loosing weight. I also particularly liked the idea of splitting with my husband. I also am starting to agree that having a free meal once a week does sound a bit much. Thank you all for your help! :) |

| Foods | What can I do with Polenta? | Aug 15 2009 21:21 (UTC) |

I love polenta. Similar to you I fell in love with it after having it at a restaurant. I discovered that the thing that I like to do with it the most is use it to stuff manicotti noodles instead of cheese. Just make a mush out of it and add a bunch of spices. It works like a charm and is quite a bit more healthy than cheese. |

I have a mix of good luck, bad luck and stupidity. I have lost a few things and had wonderful people bring them back to me. I have found some amazing things, one being a hideous fire opal and diamond gold ring, I had it all taken apart and fitted into three white gold rings for me and my three sisters (we all lost them in about two years I think that it is sort of like Karma, you loose a little you find a little, over all you probably break even. For the most part anyway! Obviously your brother is an exception, I am sure he won't loose 10,000 bucks worth of stuff for the rest of his life! |

Thank you all for you information. I will increase my calorie intake on days that I work out and I will also start doing more strength training. I am 5ft 10in, I am about 90 lbs overweight according to my ideal body weight. Could I be o.k. doing a 1000 deficit ir should I do the 500-700 one? If I could do the 1000 cal. deficit, when should I decrease it? |

If anyone here isn't so much a fan of Starbucks check out this website. www.illwillpress.com and watch one of the Foamie Starbucks rants. Look for a tab that says toons. They are really funny! I must warn anyone who wants to check them out, they have some extremely bad language! Oh, and they are a bit difficult to understand at first, you will know what I mean. |

Haha, yeah the "frappaccino" is a blended drink like previously stated. I believe it comes from the whole "frozen" term sometimes used instead of "blended". So "frozen Cappuccino" becomes "frappuccino". I have always hated this particular Starbucks drink because it is unique to Starbucks. I used to work at a small coffee shop and people always used to come in and order Starbucks specialty drinks. I always had to say that I could mimic them but they aren't typical coffee beverages so I don't know the actual ratios of everything that is supposed to be in it. People were always surprized to hear that "frappuccinos" weren't a standard coffee drink. The really funny thing about "frozen cappuccinos" or "frapuccinos" is that an actual cappuccino is equal parts espresso, foam, and milk. It turns out fairly small. Blending that little concoction would definitly not turn into their super sweet frozen beverage! |

I live in Corvallis. I know that the co-op has it, and in Salem the local health food store has it (LifeSource Natural Foods). |

I absolutely agree with victoria girl! Instead of viewing it as a diet consider it a lifestyle change that is, as victoriagirl said, "enjoyable and healthy, and sustainable forever". I have tried "dieting" and until I got on calorie count plus I never really did much research on what it meant to loose weight. I was doing diets where I wasn't eating enough and it was horrible! Now I eat just enough for my activity level to maintain a 1000 calorie deficit every day. I actually feel like I could keep going like this forever! So now I have put away the scale that I have a tendency to overuse, and I am looking at it as I am doing right by me! I am on my way to being fit, and even though I have set a goal date of June '09 am not so worried about it anymore. I know that with time I will loose weight but I don't want to rush it because I want it to be healthy. In the mean time while I am working on it I just think of how much fun it is going to be to be fit again!! So don't focus so much on the weight loss think of the fact that you are making a healthy, sustainable, lifestyle change! |

I have been going strong for at least six days now (I did some before I found this site). Welcome to our little group of buddies! I don't have kids either. My older three siblings do though. So far everyone in my family has gotten married in order of age and now each had their first child in order of age, so I guess I am next. ncaggie we have almost the same situation! I am 250 right now, needing to loose 90 lbs. It is a bit daunting isn't it? I want to be in shape in time for next summer!! I have decided that I am not going to tell my family that I am doing this and then I am going to take a road trip next year and surprize them all!! It will be fun. I suggest anyone in our little buddy group that hasn't started a journal should. It is a good motivator for me knowing that all of you will read it if I fail and have to tell all in my journal. It is what got me out jogging today! |

Two kids! I am jealous! I don't get to have kids for another four years when my husband and I graduate. I am really excited to start a family. All of my older siblings already have kids. On the eating healthy, I have been trying to cut my fat grams back but keep my calories reasonable. I am having a hard time with it. I don't know if my kitchen just isn't ready and I need to go change out some stuff, or if keeping your calories up and your fat down is just going to be difficult. I have been trying to keep my fat under 20-25 grams per day but when I do this I end up with just under 1200 calories, which isn't healthy. Let me know how it goes for you.

I am new to this website also. I haven't discovered the recipe builder yet. I will try to find it and figure out how to use it. I have been using the logs and the nutrition database though! I hate counting calories and this website is really helpful! I would love to be anyones diet buddy! I don't know anyone on this site yet. I have been going strong for 4 days now and I have 90 lbs to loose to get back to the low recommendation for my height. I have a ways to go, but I have to do this now before I graduate and start a family. I have heard that loosing weight after having kids is harder, is that true? If it is, is it biological, or is it just that raising kids makes it harder to find time to work out? Perhaps it is just like Lissabee was saying, you just tend to eat your kids food? |

I am new to this site. I am really enjoying it! My husband and I are vegetarian attempting to move toward vegan. We just recently attempted making mannicotti. We managed a really great dish that was almost vegan. I know almost vegan doesn't really mean anything, but it was good. We stuffed the mannicotti noodles with polenta and almond cheese. It was great! If anyone has some recommendations to replace the almond cheese with (that would be vegan) I would really love to hear. We haven't been able to find a decent vegan cheese replacement. The almond cheese we have has a little bit of milk product in it. |
