I've always wanted to try this. Do you think a REC center would allow it? I have half a mind to try it...i guess i could always just put my shoes back on if i get in trouble...

personaltrainer: I'm definitely open to taking suggestions! not taking advice (getting professional help on how to gain weight) is what caused me to start binge eating in the first place! I've noticed that if i eat around 1300-1500 i still sometimes fight with the urge to binge but can control it pretty well. if i drop anywhere below that it almost always leads to a binge the next day. So i bet you're right, if i increase to around 1700 maybe the urge will completely go away!

msangelh: you are doing a half marathon?! That's so awesome! prepare to get addicted! you may even decide you want to run one!  i ran my first in april and have done as many as i can muster up money for ever since.

you sure can... i would love that... it keeps me motivated to know someone else is motivated too... what do you do for exercise?

I'm an avid runner. I run about 35-45 miles per week, more if I'm training. But, I screwed up my metabolism big time and I'm pretty small anyway (I only want to control my binging. not real worried about losing weight), so I don't burn that many calories.

I really appreciate your thought out post! here are my trigger foods, goals, and my good habits:

trigger foods:

peanut butter

any sort of sweet i.e. chocolate, cake, cookies, etc.

cereal

chips

goals:

short term: 1. STOP binging

&nb sp;          2.  stick to ≤1500 calories per day

long term: 1. lose 5-7 lbs.

good habits i have now :)

run and/or strength train 6 days a week

no fried food

when i eat healthy, i eat really healthy lol

stats:

height: 5'2"

weight: 115

goal weight (eventually): 110

The only way it would make a difference is if it was a very slow and sluggish 3 miles vs two extremely fast and intense 1.5 miles.

hi sophiqua,

i don't recommend doing a juice fast or cutting back to 1000 calories per day. Both of these ideas are very unhealthy and if you are able to stick to them, you will harm yourself and just have metabolism/weight gain problems in the future (speaking from experience). Either that, or you will stick to it for a week and just binge and make up for + eat more calories than you would otherwise.

i don't mean to burst your bubble but slow and steady really is the way to go so you can stay that way once you get there

We have to eat less to maintain, we have to stride twice to equal one stride of a taller runner, we balloon at a 5 lb gain...but we can wear some killer heels and not tower over people :)

What kind of reply do you expect to get from a healthy weight loss/gain forum? The people here are trying to, or are already no longer swayed by media to look a specific way.

1) Everyone has self-image issues no matter how comfortable they claim to be with themselves. The question asked is what standard of health or beauty (not just from the media) is the root cause of this dissatisfaction with ourselves. If you're so confident why are you even here?

2) There are plenty of people here who have had severe eating disorders and can answer the question in depth using their past experiences.

To answer the question, my body image issues started in 5th grade from my peers making fun of how muscular I was. I loved exercise and sports so I never really did anything about it, but when I got into college and started losing weight literally by accident (dorm food=nasty) I started losing muscle mass because I've never really had any fat to speak of. So I noticed (I think more subconsciously than anything) that I could still work out but as long as I hardly ate I wouldn't build muscle. That's where my problem started.

I'd love to join! binging is my problem too. My binges used to be 4-5000 calories :/ which is how i went from 100-115 in like a month. now the biggest one i've had is like 3000 and that was a while ago so i feel a lot better about that but my weight still hasn't budged. i'd like to get to 105-110. are we doing weekly weigh-ins or what?

I'm a huuuge daydreamer! Especially on my long runs (10-15 miles...gets boring) Some days I NEED my ipod and some days I literally play fairytale in my head lol. Or I'll think about things I wish I could say to people. Have you ever played out an argument in your head? Or even just a conversation? It always ends the way you want it to haha! yeah, sometimes I find I've done that and run farther than I intended to just because I was totally zoned out.

Oh they really will! be prepared to get addicted and spend lots of money on registration fees! Especially if you decide to work up to longer races :D enjoy every bit of it! Enjoy the atmosphere--before, during, and after. Little ones on the side of the road that want high fives...high five em! Stay for awards--you never know what you could win! Just love it..every race, especially the bigger they are (15,000 sheesh!) is filled with adrenaline and excitement. Don't just run-participate :) Have fun and good luck!

I'm totally stuck! i have 3 ideas, help me out

1. Homeless person: probably some really ratty sweatpants and sweatshirt with the cutoff gloves, and a cardboard sign that i wear over my head that says "The end is near" or something along those lines.

2. Cavegirl: not slutty, but the only girly option. its essentially a fur dress i'll wear with a caveman club thing.

3. Max: From Where the Wild Things Are. footie pajamas, gold crown, tail.

Fitness Do '5 hour energy' and '6 hour energy' bottles work? Oct 21 2009

i drank a 5-hour energy once during finals week. I took it at 10 pm and stayed up all night doing an art project. I then ran at 6 am and afterward took a final at 8 am which i aced. I finally fell asleep aroun 4 pm for an hour or so. Not saying they are a good idea, but it worked for me.

Weight Loss Help, please! Oct 16 2009

hey, I went off to college last year and dropped around twenty pounds (started at around 112 and got down to ~95lbs) and I had the same mentality as you. I wasn't suffering any sort of family loss, but as far as food goes, 700 calories a day sounded about right. Once Christmas came around my family finally confronted me and said either I gain weight or they take me to the doctor. I desperately didn't want to go to the doctor so I decided to do it by myself. ***BAD IDEA*** I didn't learn how to gain weight properly and I started a horrible binge cycle which ultimately led to me gaining back all my weight and more...only now (nearly a year later) am I finally starting to get it under control.

Moral of the story: as ashamed or shy or scared as you may be, just go to the doctor and be very clear and blunt. You need a nutritionist to help you gain weight in a healthy way so you don't have the other extreme to deal with (binging). Trust me, your food problems will be over much more quickly and you can worry about more important things.

I was underweight and had anorexic tendencies for a short period of time. One day I was waiting on the elevator at my dorm and literally just started peeing my pants. I didn't even have any indication that I had to go. It obviously sent me to tears. But now I am at a healthy weight and although I haven't had such extreme instances of it I still have bladder control problems. Couldn't tell you why, but know you're not alone.

i know exactly what you mean! i'm the same weight and height as you and my legs are not in proportion to my upper half at all! especially my calves...i was a gymnast for 16 yrs...not like bars and beam and vault...just floor. i was a power tumbler. so you can imagine my calf size. i'm trying to embrace them too but i understand its hard. anyway, you can message me if you're ever down and need someone to relate to!

paula deen made cookie dough balls that she dipped in milk chocolate and refigerated. ri-diculous.

i actually started making cakes after watching ace of cakes. i just use mix but i carve it and use fondant and stuff...rarely ever eat it because yeah, fondant is gross. it really just has no taste.

wow, great info thank you. i don't know why i like the taste of it so much haha but i just do! yeah, i don't have any desire to make a habit of it, which is obviously good, but it was indeed better calorie-wise than eating what i wanted...which may or may not have been a pint or three of ben and jerry's.

i'm terribly sorry pbear for getting you so worked up over my splenda fiasco. some people like the taste of sauerkraut and i like the taste of splenda. very weird, but just my taste. all i was wondering was if anyone knew about any adverse side effects i might experience, is that better wording for you? i didn't say "hey guys can someone come in here and tell me what a **** i am? thanks" so if you'll please take your vast knowledge of everything and dump it on someone else that'd be great. my question has been answered by much more pleasant people and i appreciate their input. i don't know what set you off but you can get off your high horse now.

thanks pbear, yeah that's what i was worried about. it was so bizarre most people sit and munch on a bag of potatoe chips when they watch a movie and i munch on...splenda? the only argument i have is that okay, splenda has chemicals in it but so does um...every other processed food there is? i think it's more weird than dangerous.

mischief, splenda does have calories, but it's less than 5 per serving so it can legally say it has zero calories. But with the amount i consumed it added up to more than negligible haha.

tessa, that's what i'm worried about is it confusing my body. so far, i'm still very aware of hunger vs nonhunger. so as for today i'm not worried about it. i'm obviously not going to make this a habit haha. i've not yet had a laxative affect from it, but i honestly wouldn't mind that! (prepare for too much information) it seems the only time i really can have a BM is when running. (prepare for more too much information) i am in that time of the month so maybe its cravings from that? i really eat pretty soundly except for the occasional binge problem i have, but thats another issue for another day.

lol yeah you're tellin me! i didn't think it was that big of a deal...definitely cured the sweet tooth. i know it really does have calories but a lot less than 6 pieces of cake like i probably would have had otherwise...
