If you weigh yourself consistently at the same time of day you'll be able to really track your weight loss. The best time is in the morning, before you've eaten anything.

While I applaud the idea of the ad its worth noting that Dove's parent company, Unilever, is also responsible for some of that 'onslaught'. This includes some of the most despicable and degrading (in my opinion at least) advertising for Axe products.

Baked pork chops with apple and onions. I don't have the recipe but I sear the pork chops (I use loin chops, with the fat trimmed off) and then bake (covered) them with apples and onions, a little cumin, cinnamon and allspice, with a little container of apple sauce to keep it moist. I usually have this with a baked sweet potato as well. mmmmmmm.

Your calorie target is not enough calories to sustain yourself on. You're binging because you're depriving yourself of food. You need to eat more.

1200 is the minimum intake for a completely sedentary, short/tiny female. I don't know your height or weight but you should be aiming for more than 1200. Hell, I'm 5'2 and I lost weight eating around 1400-1500 a day.

These are somethings that can cause breakouts...

Oh ok. Well, I guess if you're Canadian. I was a little weirded out (if you were an American) that you asked for advice starting with a quip about Canada

But there's no difference in sizing really- its pretty comparable between countries. Of course, it still depends on the brands and stores.

I've found that the 'touch of sun' moisturizers to be the best bet. Its like a sunless tanner, except diluted with moisturizer. If you apply it every day for two weeks you see a noticable difference, but it doesn't look at all fake because its pretty mild.

You might want to look into what your former college offers as far as resume and interview skills training. A lot of colleges offer small programs that will help you bring your resume and coverletter skills up to par, even for grads. You'd be surprised how important those things are.... if you're not up to the industry standards or your resume is not the way they (HR managers) like it you get thrown at the bottom of the pile.

I do the same thing as well. I've found that if I think of it in longer terms than just a day it helps me stay on track. Like say, if I ate a snickers bar and I'm now around 300 cals over my maintenance, I think that it will take one day with a deficit of 250-300 to make up for that snickers bar. So while you get to enjoy the snickers bar one day, it sticks with you for two. I don't know if this makes ANY sense at all but thinking like that usually prevents me from munching over my limit.

HUMMUS. AMAZING. It's one of my most favorite things and you can get it at most restaurants.

I know that this is going to sound stupid, but what is hummus? I have read other posters talking about it, but I honestly have no idea what it is. What does it taste like and what is in it?

Hummus is a chickpea based spread. It's usually made with chickpeas, taztiki sauce, garlic, a little bit of lemon juice and olive oil. Fairly healthy and super yummy. If you know what chickpeas taste like, hummus tastes like that except with a slightly sour (lemon and taztiki sauce) after taste and a hint of garlic. The more oil, the creamier it tastes.

Yeah, I've realized that later. Its weird because it really depends on the individual in the type of foods that cause flare ups... the low fibre works as a guide.

I wish you luck though.... it's not easy at all. Trust me I know. His illness started maybe mid March and got worse in the summer- to the point where he was either laying down in bed or on the toilet. He went from a slightly chubby 185 at 6"0 to around 130.... he's gained back a fair but but still is pretty thin. It put a horrible strain on our relationship- it's not something you have to worry about with your sister- but it was hard to continue being .... sexually drawn to someone who has such extreme poop issues :P.

She needs all the support you can give. I would recommend ensure though- at the very least it will help with getting her nutrients and calories she needs.

My boyfriend was diagnosed after a summer of symptoms like the ones that you're describing above. It was awful... I had no idea what to do. (He's only 23 too) He's on meds now and it's continuously improving. It does take a while to find what particular kind of foods trigger flare ups, but all his doctors have recommended that he stay away from foods that are high in fibre.

She should get on some medication ASAP and she should STAY AWAY from fibre. When my boyfriend was really sick I was just trying to make sure he could get the calories he needed while he didn't have an appetite. It usually included me making him various different shakes with ensure, ice, peanut butter,  bananas, protein powder and chocolate. I would also make sure that he had A LOT of meats to get iron and stuff up.

I don't know about the lentils and beans. They are high in fibre and I know they give my boyfriend flare ups, but its really based on the individual.

I buy Canadian produce (esp. Ontario) whenever I can. I would love to find a well stocked farmer's market around here, but I find that many of the stalls buy the same produce as the grocery stores (sometimes FROM the grocery stores) and sell it at a higher price. This is even during the summer... so it's frustrating. Actually, if anyone is from Niagara and has some suggestions of where to go, I'd be thrilled :)

Port Colborne market on Fridays starting at 6am-12pm. Only in summer. Located on Clarence across from City Hall

Welland, Saturdays from 6am-2pm? I think. Only in summer. Downtown. I know where it is but I forget the street.

St. Catharines, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays (Saturdays have the most vendors) 6am-2pm. All year round. Closest intersection is King and James. Downtown

The Beamer family farms usually have amazing produce, including apples in the fall and a variety of fruits and veggies in spring and summer. Bry-ann farms has amazing strawberries and berries in general. These are people who grow their own food on their own family run farm. The Cheese guy is at all the markets and has amazing cheese. I know there are those that run stands and buy produce from the wholesalers in TO, you can avoid them easily. Ask the people running the stands where the food is from if its not marked.

Considering Niagara has pretty much the most diverse availability of fruits and vegetables in Ontario, maybe even Canada, I'm surprised that you've had a hard time finding places to buy local.

The cost, is not surprising. The price of local food includes the cost of living here. It costs far more to live here comfortably and grow produce than it does to buy a farm in a third world country and charge workers dollars a day to cultivate it.

EDIT- I just remembered this- Here is a link to the Niagara Culinary Trail. It offers a list and a map of farms that sell their own produce like Duffin Appleworks, Nokara Farms, Beamer Family Farms, and Bry-ann etc. It also includes restaraunts that use local foods, wineries, markets and shops that offer local food.

I buy food local for the most part. My mother always bought from famers markets and local stands when I grew up so it never really occured to me to shop anywhere else for produce and some meats. For me it's less about the carbon footprint idea and more about supporting local businesses and farmers.

I'm lucky though, that I live where I do. The variety of produce and it's availability astounds me every year. I get a good selection of different fruits and veggies throughout the winter too, especially since one of the largest hydroponic farms in Ontario is located in my region. (Niagara, if anyone wants to know) I also get fresh, local peaches in the mid-summer (mmmmm my favourite)

I also buy free trade coffee, like pgeorgian.

Some meats, and packaged stuff I buy at my local grocery store. If I can afford it I try and buy Canadian or North American made stuff, but I'm perpetually short on cash being a student and all.

I actually worked for a stand in my local farmers market for a couple years and it really opened my eyes. I adored that job, despite the 5am start up. My stall sold fresh local bread and Italian smoked meats and cheeses (also local). I ate soooo well.

But seriously. I think I would feel better about having a little bit of toxins in me than I would about having some unknown, untested, liquid squirted up my butt.

Urgh. Theres a woman like that in my office too. Whenever she asks you a question you get three words into the answer and she starts talking over you. I just keep going and ignore her second/third/fourth/fifth comment. She's not my boss though... so unless she needs clarification on something I wrote to edit it I avoid contact with her. She makes me feel all stabby.
