Weight Gain No Lasting Fullness After Meals...Solution? Oct 12 2009

I think the suggestions from Jane are great but i would concentrate on this one:

"Get a portion of protein (animal or vegetable) at each meal... eggs, nuts, meat, fish, dairy, tofu, beans, lentils etc."

I think your looking too closely at the fat.  Ive been cutting carbs from 50% down to 40% roughly, and concentraing on getting protein every 4-5 hrs, as well as making sure I'm getting two servings of friut (at least) every day

The blood sugar thing is important and has helped me a lot.  Only eating three meals didn't work for me.  I try for 400-500 cals per meal and eat 4-6 meals/day, and I feel much more satisfied.

I just did a circuit I think you call it, lifting every body part for one set to warm up a little and then a second set of each to really get my muscles working.  Its all about the pump to me.  Its like the best drug in the world to me, it makes me feel so damn good.  Give it a try.  I would go more sets but I'm a little out of practice!

I try to get a good serving of protein so the muscles your breaking down have fuel to rebuild-protein shake, nuts, meat -something.  A little before get some good fruit or something w/ immediate energy and then a little after do your meal.

I don't have an ED but I don't think you'll ever "get over it", just as I will never get over my addiction.  Best advice I can give, as an addict myself who binges on drugs (or did) and food or whatever, is to find yourself a good therapist who will listen and stay with him/her even if you think your "better".  I suspect its much like my issue of instant gratification, and lack of self worth; I used these negative behaviors to cope with whatever stress I had at the time.  When I explained my negative behavoir and thoughts to my Psycologist, it helped me realize just how irrational my thoughts and behavior were.  If you change your behavior (not easy but you can) you can change your brain.  And when you change your brain, you will find it more and more easy to engage in healthy behaviors that will allow you a guilt-free life, not needing to hide and sneak.  And if you can get to that point where you have nothing to hide- it feels really really good.    Find something posative you really want to do; work on acheiving that something important to you- for me thats going back to school and it helps take my mind off of the compulsions I've used to cope.  Above all you have to see that you are as worthy of love and respect and a happy future as anyone.  Whatever your past(believe me everyone has some skeletons) you deserve a posative future.  So don't look backwards-look to the future which is bright if you take responsibilty for whatever wrong you may have done, and do everything you can to do the right thing from this point on.  I'm no dr but this was my expierience.

Foods How many grams of carbohydrates work for YOU? Apr 11 2009

I usually get 50% or more and thats not a lot of sugar or bad carbs I'm talkin fruits and veges, whole grains that everyone should get a certain amount of.  Thats why I never got the whole  low-carb thing!  Yeah no soda or refined sugar, and limit white breads and bleached pastas as much as possible, but that still leaves me with about 250 carbs for a 2000-2500 cal diet.  I like to make sure I get 3 servings of fruit at least 1 veg preferablly 2, about 14 oz of 1% milk, 4 oz of activia yogurt, maybe an oatmeal or high protein special k cereal.  If your getting good carbs, I think you can go as high as 60% like others have stated.  IDK but I feel better than ever at 50% CARB 20%FAT and 30% PROTEIN

Try the little red skinned "b" sized potatoes, plain and baked they're high in fiber and protein.  And loaded with vitamins.  Yeah they have a few carbs but your body needs those too!

I like to drink alot of aquifina, water def helps especially if it tastes good!  I cant do tap water its got to be purified.  The habit of lighting is powerful.  Its been a coulpe of months since I have been a smoker but I'm still chewing on tooth picks just to keep myself from reaching for a cig.  Also if your going to give in(not that I encourage it), buy a single cig from some1 for a buck.  You can put one behind you if you screw up, but Don't buy a pack cause then your going to smoke the whole pack and its all over from there.  The cravings will get easier by the hour and then by the day and you'll start feeling a whole lot better about yourself.

Good luck!  Its worth it!

EXERCISE  its key.  Sooo much easier and enjoyable when you can breath!  Make it your focus.  30 min/ day but I like to do walking and weight lifting both.  I just keep thinking how much better I feel as I breath, concentrate on your breathing in everything you do and reasure yourself every step of the way that not smoking is the reason you are able to get O2 to your lungs, and thus work out and thus look better.

For a snack or light breakfast I like whole wheat bagels toasted with a little low sugar jelly.  Great source of good carbs but not a great side dish.

Health & Support Seroquel/ Clonazepam (klonopin) / effexor xr... weight gain/loss... addictive? Nov 28 2008

I've taken clonazepam for several years now and I can tell you its not going to be putting on weight for you.  Not sure about how effexor works but I have taken it and seroquel and never noticed any gains with either.  Perhaps depression/anxiety is more of a danger to your weight than the drugs that are prescribed to help control them.  That seems to be the case for me when I'm depressed I eat alot and I don't care what either.  The only one I had gains with is Depakote for bipolar and alot of weight gain.  I would say effexor out of all would be the one to look out for, but again that was not my experience with it.(As I am not a dr ask yours before stopping any of those, its not pretty if you just up and stop)  Which leads to other question-clonazepam is pretty addictive but with proper dr supervision, I've found benifits far outweigh risk.  I used to think it wasn't(didn't believe drs who said it was), but trust me it is.  I think if you take 1mg or more every day, for a few weeks-an addiction will manifest.  The good part is to me anyway, that I'd rather have to take 2 .5mgs/day than deal with my anxiety unmedicated.  I dont think other 2 drugs are adictive but I've been told by several people that stopping effexor has to be done slowly like with Klonapin.-  Hope I've helped in some way, good luck.

by the way if you keep telling yourself the meds are making you gain weight, you probably will regardless of they're effect.  As for loss, I've never had that problem, but wish I did.

I would just guess, your like me and everything has to be exactly on.  If you think its bigger than a kids try .6 or .7 of one larger side.  My point is, sometimes I have to remind myself a few calories off isn't a big deal( it takes me forever weighing everything I eat sometimes).  I think as long as your within 100 or so calories for the day and you dont do it everyday, your good.  Also your estimate should be on the liberal side-meaning better to enter a little more than a little less for losing weight.
