just wanted to wish you good luck on getting your period back. i didn't have an eating disorder but i got way too thin when i started eating "healthier" and i ended up unintentionally eating too few calories and lost my period for 2 years. but it came back in may after i upped my calories and most importantly my fat intake a lot, so it can take a lot of time. eating fruit is great, but you can still eat more calorically dense stuff too, especially if it's not bulky. like try putting peanut butter on your apples. or try pairing your fruit with cheese. this is more of a treat, but fruit pizza is delicious. i usually use refrigerated crescent roll dough, or maybe you could make some kind of whole-wheat crust for it, put sweetened cream cheese over it, and top with fruit. |

i make greek turkey burgers and top em with tzatziki sauce or light ceasar dressing.. i think either of those would taste great on one of your burgers. at least for me there's gotta be some kinda sauce on a burger. |

haha everyone laughs at me because all my sandwiches end up turning into one big mess. it's so annoying eating at college because i dont get to make my own stuff so im always having to fiddle with my food after it's served to me- like scooping out the insides of the bread, moving ingredients around, etc. i get so messy when i eat. haha |

im really particular about the ratio of bread to fillings (esp meat) on my sandwiches. i need to really be able to taste the meat, so usually if i get a sandwich or wrap or whatever made for me, i end up taking it apart to double the meat on one half. or if im eating a salad or something with a variety of ingredients i have to make sure i have an equal distribution of all the different foods in each bite. |

i eat these for breakfast every morning at school. i find them very filling. chocolate caramel is good, but chocolate peanut is my fave. i believe the caramel is 150 cal but i noticed the bar is 40g while the choc peanut is 180 cal but 50g- so you get a little more bang for your buck |

i love the photos, thanks so much!
just a note, you said that replacing the 3 egg whites with coke zero saves 20 cal per muffin, but arent egg whites only 15 calories each? if you made 18 muffins, you only save like 2.5 cal/muffin. |

i never had an eating disorder either, but i exercised a lot and prob was undereating without meaning to. and also i was afraid of certain things like too much bread. now im like screw it, im not gonna worry about it and just be normal and eat when im hungry. today i ate a lot, mostly healthy stuff but some treats too, without worrying about calories, and it was so freeing and amazing, and i was in a better mood all day than i have been in for a long time. |

| Foods | Can the sugar craving be beaten? Should I try? | Oct 22 2008 05:40 (UTC) |

It's weird- I used to be one of those people who had to have something sweet after every meal. But once I started eating healthier and getting the proper nutrients through real food, I didn't have the cravings anymore because I'd be completely satisfied from dinner. I noticed that I tend to crave sweet things after unhealthier meals like pizza or fast food. I guess my brain just says well, I've already had something bad- I might as well have more unhealthy stuff. But if I do have a sweet craving, fruit usually does the job for me. There are plenty of low-calorie desserts to try. Sugar-free pudding is also a great, low calorie way of dealing with this as well. |

| Health & Support | Lost my periods! Help!! | Oct 15 2008 16:13 (UTC) |

I googled it too and there does seem to be a correlation. I don't eat much fat, but I eat way more protein than most people I know, and I haven't gotten my periods since March 2007. I always thought it had to do with body fat, but now that I've done some research I'm gonna start eating more fats in the hope that my periods return. On a side note, when I went to both the doctor and gyno and told them how long I haven't had a period, neither seemed very concerned- I was more concerned than they were. I am on the cusp of being underweight/normal, and they did not tell me to gain any weight. I actually lost my periods when I was still well into the normal range of BMI. So maybe it really is just about being at the weight that's right for your specific body. |

I appreciate all your replies. I looked at the article about talking to your doctor, and I realized I fit many of the symptoms, most specifically the ones about thinking about food too much, knowing the calorie count of everything I eat, and I thinking about exercise in terms of calories burned. I am going to change. I am going to learn to eat without anxiety again. If I am being totally honest with myself, I was happiest when I was thirty lbs heavier because I was not so preoccupied with what I put in my mouth. I pretend like I don't care around my friends, but I think about the calories of everything I put in my mouth, even though these are estimates because I don't weigh things. I exercise until I reach 600 calories on the elliptical and will not stop until I reach it. When I miss a day of exercise or eat something "bad," which I have trained my mind to mean pretty much all carbs because they are more calorie-dense, I feel guilty. I am a perfectionist, and although I eat other things sometimes besides chicken and broccoli, I feel like I SHOULD be eating chicken and broccoli. This is wrong, and I'm going to change it. Today I exercised by riding my bike because it was a beautiful day. I would normally just go on the elliptical so I could be "sure" I burned my 600 calories (even though I know those machines are inaccurate, I use this to reassure myself). I ate cookies today and felt guilty about it. I'm trying to learn not to be. Thank you all for making me realize the truth. Although I would not say I have an eating disorder like anorexia, I definitely have disordered eating and I probably overexercise. I am going to change this. I have not gotten my periods since March 2007. I have talked to doctors and they're not worried because my bmi is 19, which is low but not scarily low. Perhaps it is too low for my specific body. I used to have a butt--now I'm flat as a pancake. I used to be able to lift things heavier than 20 lbs. I have become weak, and I do not like it anymore. I tried to get down to a certain number--I just don't want to be 131. I think I probably looked best when my doc told me I was 106 about a year ago. I'm going to work on gaining muscle and getting back to that so I can feel healthy again. Thanks again to everyone and good luck in all your journeys. |

The thing is, I probably have at least 2 portions of chicken breast each meal time and I do eat like a whole plate of vegetables. I really have no idea how much the calories are. I assumed they might be low because the stuff is healthy, but I do eat a lot of it. Maybe I'm getting enough, I just wouldn't know since I just eat stuff from the dining hall and don't weigh it. |

I just feel like people on here would assume that I'm lying and really am trying to lose weight or deprive myself, when really, I eat exactly what I want and how much I want, and stop when I'm full. I guess I just have the mentality that I shouldn't have to eat other things if it makes me happier to eat the way I do, you know? I just enjoy them more than other things. I guess I just feel like CC makes everything so scientific, and other countries don't have as many weight problems because they just don't think about calorie counting and all that-- they eat what they want and how much they want. That's what I feel like I do. My friends here actually are jealous of me because I can "eat so much" and not gain weight, but I just eat large portions of healthy foods. I realize that I have a limited diet, but I'm sorry, I love food and this is what I love to eat each day. Thanks for the responses. |
