I guess I should just continue and get over the beginning humps and uncomfyness sine its going to happen eventually whenever I do start weights if I stop now.

Its mostly because Im seeing old friends I havent seen in YEARS (who last saw me at my old normal weight of 115) so the retention seemed like such horrible timing.

Karozel (a1uglybroad as well) - are we talking like a pant size of difference? Thats what I keep thinking when the temporary glycogen stores are mentioned. Like I wont be able to fit in my pants for awhile or something ):

Will staying espeically hydrated ease the swelling or would it not matter?

Thanks very much for your help :D

Thank you that was alot of what I was looking for (:

Since Im in deficit I know I cant build any new muscle (or rather it would be very, very difficult) which is why Im just looking to maintain what I have and become stronger at the moment.
Do you know if the body always reacts and swells and holds onto the glycogen stores in the beginning? Im looking for a shimmering glimpse of hope that its just the first week and I can continue feeling normal very shortly, hah.

I have Cealiacs disease and Im lactose intolerant. I also had some rather serious complications after a cholesysectomy and I can only handle small amounts of fat.
So it cuts out pretty much all baked foods, most processed foods, all dairy and alot of fatty things.

I didnt look back farther than this month but I cant remember the last time I was rated under an A.
Im allergic to many things and while I have lots of variety in my meals the ingredients are usually about the same week to week.

My normal "staples" are:

Oatmeal
Egg whites (I think the yolks are not that great tasting personally)
Broccoli, cauliflower, GREEN BEANS mmm, spinach, lettuce, mushrooms
Salmon
Tilapia
Tuna
Strawberries, peaches
Peanut butter
Chicken
Turkey
Tofu
Cinnamon and chili powder

Foods Weight vs measurement of foods, which to go by? Mar 14 2009

gi-jane - I have NO idea why I didnt even think about the water ratio factor. That completely answered my question for all the reasons I was confused. I understood that theyre the same but not why, you know?
So technically it would matter when you weighed though Im guessing. 50g of fresh strawberries will be plumper with water weight and have less calories than slightly older and dried out strawberries taking up the same 50g only now they have less of the water to account for those same grams.
Interesting.

Thank you for explaining that.

themassageguy- Thank you for your concern, however Im just asking the question so that I can set aside my confusion and have a more accurate intake.

gi-jane - Thats very true, I understand that part. I was wondering if density ever goes into play also?
Like 100g of, hm, cabbage? persay. The greener outside leaves are lighter than the whiter dense insides (Ive noticed anyway haha) so would the larger volume 100g of the leafy parts be the same as the volume dense 100g white parts of the same food? Or does density change the stats?

It was the vegetable juice and broccoli that were not sized.

I fixed it and here are the correct stats.
Besides the sodium, its off because I couldnt register a low sodium V8

I agree with lala.

It does happen to come off quite rapidly when you are on the higher end of the spectrum so I dont think it is exactly dangerous for you to lose what you are currently (which would be different if you were starting at, say, 200) but I also think you should be eating more.

I dont doubt that you feel fine and are not hungry but your body really does need those extra calories to keep your organs just plain functioning normally on a day to day basis.
Sometimes when you are not eating enough you dont feel hungry because you lose your ability to recognize (or produce) hunger signals. In the long run not only does it harm your body but it can easily cause you to end up burning less calories (body breaking down not only fat but muscle decreasing your BMR) daily and cause your weight loss to slow/stall and you wont have the advantage of being able to eat more while losing the same amount on eating little.

If you find it hard to get in that many calories eat high calorie, low dense foods such as peanut butter, dried fruit, avocado, nuts, full fat milk, yogurts and cheeses, granolas, and beans.
If you drink protein shakes or eat oatmeal you can easily add in an extra 500 with nuts/nut butters and dried fruit.

Its around 17 for a large egg and 23 I think for an extra large.

There is no proven data (there are actually many studies that have shown against it) that the yolks affect your bad cholesterol. Though they do contain most of the calories in the egg if thats why you leave them out.
Personally I just think the yolk tastes yucky, haha.

Avocados. No no no. I dislike them with a passion. Even if I smell one its enough to make me gag!

Corn,
potatos/yams,
snap peas,
water chestnuts (I think thats what theyre called),
never really liked bananas but I do eat them if I need more potassium.
Celery is just yucky eww.
Dont like milk either, although Im lactose intolerant so its a good excuse to stay away from it anyway!
Oranges are ehhh
Mango
Cranberries
Dont like pineapple either.

I really like beets and brussel sprouts and green beens though haha.

Health & Support Whats going on inside my belly! Anyone else experience this? Jan 14 2009

I will be sure to avoid them lala (: Sorry to hear you had to go through this before.

Anytime I take anything in, my stomach bloating becomes worse and more apparent. Even drinking little cups of water makes my belly puff out and it hurts. Its hard but Im trying to drink enough.

The water thing is really going to mess with the poopage.  You have to have water which hydrates the waste in the transverse colon, otherwise the waste just turns into a rock and cant pass normally. Having the blockage can cause pockets and even punctures in the descending colon. It sounds like you are suffering, I am suprised your doctor isn't going a little full force with this.  Has he discussed having a colonic, or fiber, or hooking you up to an IV so you have fluid some other way...  Getting dehydrated because you cant drink water without bloating in pain seems like it is only going to throw your body off worse.  There are a lot of homeopathic ways to deal with this, milk thistle, etc.. but since it such a severe case I would harass the crap out of your Dr. until he does something.

I know I need to get in more water and I am desperatly trying to, Im consistently drinking as often as I can.
She said I should be taking fiber twice a day but only after the blockage (which is what I have, a blockage in my intestines) is cleared or it can worsen the bulk.

It has been more than extremely busy at the office the past few days so I havent been able to get in touch with her but Im going to call her mobile again in a few minutes.

I know this is quicked gross but from having back problems I was on a large amount of pain pills and well err they cause issues like that.

Warm prune juice is a great way to stimulate things.. If that does not work which it did not for my sis after she got hit by a car and was on pain meds they told her warm prune juice mixed with milk of magnesa.   Tastes HORRIBLE. so I would suggest just downing it and staying near a bathroom.

They gave me warm prune juice whenever Im in the hospital and taking pain meds, nasty stuff. I can only imagine what it tastes like with megnesa in it!

I was prescribed some pretty heavy duty medicine that should have cleaned me out but I did two runs (hah, no pun intended there) and still nothing happened so I left a message on my doc's mobile as instructed if in didnt work.
I will try the prune juice and add magnesia in it if I can get some.

Thanks (:

No probs. It eventually slowed down since my weight got lower, and I started exercising less (I started losing weight during the summer.. so when it advanced towards fall and started getting colder outside, I got lazy and thus .) XD  On average, once I hit the low end of the 150's, I was losing a pound a week, which was pretty sweet, considering some people go weeks and weeks without losin' anything. So.. once you hit a lower weight, it'll slow down by much more.

Probably still going to be faster then what you're losing now, though. o.o

I would seriously not worry about flunctuation. When you up your calories, you will see an increase, but it's just sodium. I actually reccomend that you stop weighing yourself on a daily basis and just start weighing yourself twice a week after you've gone to the bathroom in the morning, otherwise you're going to see a lot of ups and downs, which gets reeeeally frustrating. But maybe that's just me. -shrug-

Yeah now that its winter Im always inside, and visiting family so I dont have access to a gym here.
I wonder how much I could lose by upping? I dont even know how much to increase to. Today Im aiming for 1300 because yesterday was so horrible (500something. Im still sick)

I only weigh once a week, daily would drive me nuts. At most I weigh twice a week but thats rare.

Thank you so much (again) for all your advice

How are you doing with your weight loss lately? I hope all is well (:

I'm 5'5", I was about 160 when I wasn't eating enough, and I was losing veeeerry slooowly, so I upped my calories to 1800-2000 calories, and I started dropping weight like crazy. o.o Like, I was actually losing 2 pounds on average at first, where as before when I was eating too little, I'd only lose a pound every two weeks or so. Plus I felt so lethargic and frustrated before I upped my calories.

Here's a couple of threads you might want to check out for similar stories:

Ahhh that makes me feel so much better, haha. For the past two weeks Ive been having belly issues and have averaged around 1000 (and during my sick week weigh in this past Friday I was UP .4lbs for the first time in a long time), normally I get in around 1400 and my loss was around .7-2lbs a week but the 2lbs were mostly on weeks I was sick or not getting enough.
How long did the quicker weight loss last for?
I have no idea what to aim for, Id like to lose 1.5-2lbs a week. Im 5'4'' and 147lbs. Geez Im rambling.

Anyways thanks so much for the reply and the links! Im checking them out right now.

Nah! It's normal. I was quite frightened about upping my cals! When I first started I was eating 1400 calories and exercising vigorously, couldn't figure out why I wasn't losing that much weight. I was told I needed to up my calories by a lot, and I was afraid I'd gain weight.

Nope, I managed to lose waaayy more weight, and really comfortably too. In the first few days of upping your cals, ignore the scale. Your sodium levels will go up thus you'll probably be holding in some extra water weight. ;3

Trust me, once you up your calories, you'll be so much better off, and feel a lot better too.

Do you mind if I ask how tall you are/how much you weighed when you upped your cals and what you upped them to?
Haha sorry but I am so curious. I need to increase my calories because Ive been sick recently and they have dipped way low and now Im kindof afraid to.

To the poster of the thread, I know how you feel!
You definitely need more than 1200, and even though it may seem counterproductive it does help. Its just the actual doing it part that mostly gets in the way.

To be able to hop from lap to lap when Im having a good time with friends.

To wear thigh-high socks, haha. I think they look so sexy when you have nice toned legs to pull them off. Mine are definitely not ready.

Those really cute pinstripe short shorts for summer.

This is going to sound incredibly self-centered and awful but Id love to be the girl who everyone looks forward to seeing/hanging out with. I know some really gorgeous girls who people talk about how they cant wait until they can visit.
The men drool over them when they walk in a room and all the women would love to be friends with her.
Definitely different than the kind of girl who intimidates men and women tend to talk nastily from jealousy. More like the type of girl who is so beautiful and loving she inspires everyone around her and brings a calmness and joyfulness.

To be able to lay out in the sun without worrying about stares!

I had a doctors appointment set for early today when I made the thread, I just made the topic to see if anyone else had experienced this and if so what had gone on with them.

sinev - I have had many CAT scans and MRIs before but completely regarding other problems. Never had an endoscopy or colonoscopy though.
Everytime I do trial and error it seems to eliminate more and more foods each time. It feels like soon Im going to be left with nothing but green beans and chicken, hah.
I saw my doctor earlier today, it was really busy so I didnt get to talk about the extent of my problems but she thinks I may have a large blockage of food that my bowels are trying to pass but just cant due to how much has added up. She wants to see me again before I go in for surgery on the 4th (unrelated) and to call her tomorrow to see how things are "moving" after following the prescription I was given.
Thank you for the best wishes.

dovelette - I saw my doctor today. I havent had a movement in around 5-6 days. I dont urinate as much lately because its hard for me to drink a normal amount of water without the bloat and pain but other than that it is normal.
Im not trying to self diagnose or anything, I was looking to see if anyone else had experienced anything similar.

lala - I feel like a broken record, haha. But yes I went to the doctor, I would never use these boards or an opinion of someone outside of practice to self diagnose but while I was waiting I was looking to see any similarities with any other posters.
My doctor thinks it may be a blockage and I have another appt in a few weeks if nothing clears up and to see if we can figure out my chronic nausea problem.

Thank you for all your replys.

It just keeps getting worse and worse. I look 6 months pregnant by now and its not going anywhere, my belly is swollen and very, very painful.

I hope this is all something very minor and goes away as quickly as it came on.

I only managed 850 calories today and Im going downstairs to try to swallow some more but Im afraid my belly is going to split open.

if it continues for more than 2 weeks, see a doctor asap.

i have been doing way too much "googling" lately looking for help with a medical issue i am having, and fullness/hard stomach are main symptoms i have found for a few scary things. obviously in most cases it is probably just a minor/temporary issues, but definitely don't overlook it for too long.

i hope you feel better soon. Smile

In about 4 days it will be the 2 week mark /:
Im making a doctors appt for tomorrow or sometime within the next few days.

What kind of things does it point to? Im sure its something minor in my case, or I hope so.

Thanks! And I hope whatever issues you're having clear up soon.
