Hi Nancy, Chris, Kim, Meena, and Everybody!

So happy to read everyone's logs!  Sounds like you're all enjoying your summer!  When I drink wine it's usually Riesling - a sweet white wine - and I never get headaches from drinking it.

Good for you - Kim - getting down in your weight!  I still have my fave pair of jeans and one day I will wear them again!  Although by then I will want a new wardrobe! ha.  Yes, we have four chickens now.  One took a hit by a bobcat unfortunately and the other died from chicken pox - I think!  Wink  They're a lot of fun.  We had a rooster but he was always crowing - drove us nuts!  He got a new loving home at a farm in the valley.  Sure love our chicks and they lay every day.  My son has a vegetable garden and they like to peck around there.  43 isn't too young for hot flashes -  I'm 46 and just started getting them a couple of years ago.  Going to the doc soon to check my hormone levels.  What a pain!  Sometimes I just sit with the fan in my face!

Sending you all good wishes on your calorie counting!  Not sure I'll be able to log in again for awhile.  Will be leaving soon for my trip to the midwest and don't know if I'll have internet access.  But will return Sept 18 and will see you'all then!

Take care, Cinzia Cool

Happy Birthay Meena!  Smile You've got a good start with 4 lbs. lost already!

Nancy, sounds like you're doing great!  And the bike riding - wow!  Yorkshire pudding -mmm!  Haven't had that in ages - not since my niece was visiting from London, and made it for Christmas.  Did you actually make all of that?  You must be a great cook!  You have been so energetic with your biking!  Good for you!  Hope Kyle is doing better on the meds.

Chris, thanks for the encouragement!  Sometimes I have to do the "fake it til you make it," and you're right about keeping up a schedule.  If I exercise, it helps.  Hope you have a nice time in NC!

Kim, the hikes sound beautiful!  Love your sense of humor. Up-ing my calories really helped.  My weight was at a standstill until I increased from 1200 to 1400.  Also I noticed that I had to eat enough carbs or my anxiety was worse - for some strange reason.  Sex on the Beach sounds yummy!

Kris, Shakespeare in the park - how wonderful!  I was a wine drinker until I discovered that margaritas don't give me headaches, and I love the lime. Cool

I'm feeling up to nostalgia so I'm popping in Swiss Family Robinson tonight.  Sometimes old movies are so comforting.  Need to stay out of the ice cream.  Daisy is acting funny - so I'm wondering if there isn't a wild animal in the yard.  The bobcats and cougars like to visit our chickens.  They're just hoping we'll leave one out of the chicken coop one of these days...

You gals are all doing so great with your weight loss!  I'm putting off getting on the scale until Tuesday.

Hope you all have a great week!  Take care,

Cinzia

Hi Nancy and everybody.  Sorry to hear you have been depressed, puppykisses and meena.  I've been there and often lately.  What to do?  Except just keep trying.  And know you're not alone.  I haven't been exercising at all lately- I also feel like just pulling the covers over my head and sometimes do when I don't have to go to work.

On those dark cloud days I tell myself - okay, at least if you don't get out and do something, keep to your calorie count - because then tomorrow or in the next few days you will have that to look forward to on the scale.  I've been buying watermelon for my sweet tooth.   And because I know if I cook, I'll eat too much - I've been buying the frozen dinners so I don't overeat.  The men are fending for themselves - and they know it's helping me not to cook.  Right now I have to stay on program.  It's a struggle most days.  I cry a lot about my son.  But praying also helps.  Let's do something good for ourselves.

Hang in there.  Smile  We're here to help each other.

Ah, gals... I'm getting the grays too (and in my eyebrows)!  We're too young for that, don't you think?  I have colored my hair for years.  It does get a little itchy but it sure beats going to the stylist.  The last time I went she dyed my hair gray.  I didn't see it in the salon lights!  Got home - what a shock.  Had to redo it myself!

Ro, I actually love to iron.  It seems to be very calming for me.  I like to put in a good old movie and iron while I watch it.

chris, a hair stylist once suggested a "weave" when you want to grow out the hair color - and that makes it less noticeable.   Is that the same as a low lights?

Also know what you mean, puppykisses, regarding the lines around the mouth.  What to do?  (it's probably due to my time in the sun years ago - and it's showing up now... oh I wish I'd put on sunblock then!  But I don't remember there being warning signs in my teens.  We always slathered our bodies in baby oil when we went to the beach.  Can you imagine?  So I finally got smart in my 20's and started wearing sunblock but unfortunately it's too late for the lines I already have.  Such is life!  (lines are supposed to make us look more interesting, right?)  Cool

Nancy, hope you have a great time with your son!  I hope all is well with you and Kyle.

I'm going to be taking a trip in another month (flying to Missouri and then driving to Florida to see family), and there will be a lot of eating in restaurants.  Does anyone have tips on how to eat healthy on the road?  Should I bring my own salad dressing?  It worries me that I have to guess at the calories for each proportion, and also worry about "hidden" calories!  Any suggestions from you ladies would be appreciated.  I also might post this question on the Forum.

Have now dropped a total of 7 lbs since starting CC.  I was a little shocked at the scale this morning because I had raised my calorie intake from 1200 to 1400.  Looks like eating more does work!!  ha.  Congrats on your weight loss everyone!

Thanks gals for the support.  Sure need it.  Happy weekend everybody!!

Hi Everybody,

Haven't had a chance to check in - have been swamped with work.  But hope to read more of your blogs this weekend.  Welcome to the new people!  And congratulations to those who have lost weight!

Thank you Miss Bea  Smile for the Italian Chicken recipe!  Looks delicious - I can't wait to try it!

I love ricotta cheese.  It's so good on whole grain bread with a sprinkle of cinnamon (or even nutmeg) mixed with Splenda and toasted in the oven.  Learned that one in WW.

Take care and have a great week!

pgeorgean, sometimes my emotions get the better of me.  I only wondered why you revisited the thread after already making your initial comment.

I assumed wrongly that because you empathized with the clerk, that perhaps you had never had the experience of being made fun of because of your weight.  Although I was not bitter at the clerk, I suppose that after years of hearing comments made to my face and behind my back it was easy for me to assume that he was making reference to that.

My hope was that people could help by giving me possible comebacks to people who do that - and I don't mean angry words but something funny to say back and I should have been more clear.  That was my question:  "What would you have said?"  Instead most of the posts told me I was being paranoid.  And perhaps I was.  Looks like I was being paranoid about your posts as well.

I sincerely apologize to you.

To pgeorgian, Why are you back here 'masticating" this clerk?  I already got your point way back when I first posted this thread.  You might be a tiny bit overweight, but you have never been fat enough to have been made fun of, the way I have.  So it is normal for me to wonder when someone might be making a comment about my weight. Perhaps instead of worrying about the clerk, you could have some empathy for how I was feeling at the time.  And if you are tired of the topic, please feel free to comment on another topic elsewhere.  Cool  Thanks!

are you saying that i'm only allowed to have empathy for you?  i'll keep that in mind.

oh - and i'm sorry i was never fat enough to qualify for your esteem.  what's the threshold for that, exactly?

an aside: if you don't know what a word means, you should probably look it up before you quote it.  i'm not masticating the clerk.

That was your word.  I was quoting YOU from your earlier post.  I know what the word means.

Of course you can have empathy for anyone you like, and you don't need to have empathy for me.  Excuse me for even suggesting it.

As far as esteem, of course I don't base that on weight.  Why do you keep revisiting this thread?  I got your point the FIRST time (and also the second, third, and even the fourth time), and I already said thanks to everyone for their comments including you.  Now move along pgeorgian, there are others who need your sage advice.   Wink

Congrats to everyone on your weight loss.  Nancy, I'm glad that the dog and cat are getting along.  I have a great photo of our old boxer with the new little kitten we had - sleeping together.  Hope you and Rick are enjoying the warm weather, and I hope that your son is doing better.  My son had another good day - second one in a row.  He's getting back into his art so that's good.

Someone at work actually stole my Lean Cuisine right out of the frig.  I thought they were good, but geez!  And not even a thank you note!  Wink

I've been eating watermelon and nectarines for my sweet cravings.  Sure better than what I was eating before.  I was a candy hound.

Take care everybody.  Until next time,  Cinzia  Smile

Look what you started, Bonna!  I'm so happy - 4 pound weight loss this week - my first on CC!  yay!  And a huge part of it is this great group of ladies who are so supportive !!

I'm glad to see Carol found us ~ I told her there was another group of us over 40 y/o's.   Welcome to you and to gmaflorida!  Cool

I've decided to just weigh myself once a week so I don't get discouraged with water gain.  So I'll be back next Tuesday.

Hope everyone has a great week!

You can count me in too! I'll be 52 in a few weeks... post menopausal, hormone replacement therapy, weight gain, no energy for exercise... on and on... trying to get back on my South Beach diet.

Hi gmaflorida, welcome to the group!  I know what you mean about no energy for exercise!  I can't believe I actually ran in a marathon (Big Sur) once upon a time!  Now it's all I can do to take a short walk at the beach!  So I've cut my calories to no more than 1400-1500 and have been losing anyway so at least that's giving me some incentive.  The energy will come back ~ hopefully soon!  Hang in there!

are we seriously still masticating this clerk?  he'd probably been standing there at that till for mind-numbing hours trying to make conversation with people he had absolutely no interest in talking to.  what do you talk about when you're a grocery store clerk and you have to make conversation with several hundred customers a day?  when you get really, really tired, you comment on their food choices.

There are so many times that I've made a comment and right after it came out thought...oops, that came out totally wrong.  Give the guy the benefit of the doubt and even if he was being mean, it doesn't do the inner you any good to lash out.  I always think that a sense of humor helps.  I had a situation with a convenience store clerk who said something similar about my choice of a piece of string cheese and a fruit cup.  I told him he better clear the store cause I'd be back for the cheesecake and diet coke later and I might be dangerous with all the deprivation.  He looked shocked and then cracked a smile.  Now, he's always nice and smiles and says "hi" when I come in.  I don't know if he was being mean or not but it really doesn't matter at this point.

I love that comeback!  Thank you for bringing a sense of humor into this - because God knows I need it.  I suppose my question stems from being made fun of by other people when it was much more obvious.  So part of it is a self consciousness.  And when the clerk said that to me I just laughed and said yes.  But it would be great to say something funny like you did.  Thanks!  Laughing

You never know with comments like this.  Did he sneer?  What was his tone?

I guess I would have thought that he was just trying to make conversation.  He probably sees people buy junk food for themselves and their entire families all day long.  It was probably nice to see someone who actually cares about her body.

Thanks for bringing this up.  His tone of voice was a factor in my thinking of him as being rude.  But perhaps what I thought was a sneer was actually coming from being tired - or like someone else on here said - the tediousness of the job.  At any rate, I am glad I asked - and I appreciate reading different people's take on this subject!

Well yes, there is nothing wrong with chatting with customers. But the conversation should really stick to the weather or other neutral subjects unless the customer asks for advice. I don't think this is just about sensitivity to weight issues-- it could be about anything. What if you happen to be buying a bunch of maxi-pads and a bottle of Midol and the clerk said something about that? How about say, a box of condoms? A container of laxative? It is just so inappropriate for clerks to make comments on what you are buying, again unless you ask, or say an item is moldy or leaking and they offer to get you another one-- even then, they shouldn't comment about the merits of said product. You can bet I'd drill that into my employees if I were a store manager.

javagen, I think you hit the nail on the nose!  This may have been a big reason I felt so uncomfortable.  Whether he was just trying to make conversation or not, I really don't need a stranger commenting on my food choices.  This is probably why when I buy feminine products I look for a female clerk.  At any rate, you are right - it is inappropriate.  Clerks can always talk about something else other than what we are buying.  Thanks for the comments!   Cool

Strange thing happened at work today - someone stole my Lean Cuisine lunch  right out of the refrigerator.  Someone got a free lunch!  Not even a post-it note saying 'thank you'.  Laughing

Congrats to those who lost weight this week!  To those of you who didn't, sometimes it is just water gain, don't give up hope.  I still get frustrated when I don't lose weight - as long as we don't give up.  Sometimes you're losing inches and/or gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat).  It doesn't always show up on the scale right away so hang in there!

I just joined CC and this group last week.  Starting weight was 220 in January.  Went from 203.5 last Tuesday to 199.5 today - 4 lbs!  So happy to get below 200 lbs. finally!  It seems I was at a plateau forever so am happy to get going again.

des_salazar, thanks for giving me some incentive.  I'm happy that you started this group!!

See you all here next Tuesday!  Good luck to everyone.  Cool

Good question, and something I'd like to hear from other readers about too!

I'm 5'6" and 201 lbs. - and coincidentally I just posted a question on the forum too that is very similar to yours.  I wish I was one of those people who has great comebacks for people when they say rude things like that.

It's painful and has happened to me many times as well.  Hang in there ~ don't let other people's remarks keep you from enjoying your life!

Hi pjlittlefr & others,

I'm new on CC.  I'd like to join your group too.  Have read some of the posts - looks like a great group!

I'm 46, weight 203.  Height 5'6".  No excuses - my "kids" are 22 and 19. So no baby fat here.  Short-term goal 175 - and then I'll set the next goal.

Let's see -- denial, procrastination, just plain like to eat!  I'm a yo-yo'er ~ I'm down 17 lbs. since January but I had put on 40+ in a very short time when I hit menopause.  I want to fit into my clothes again.  It's coming off so slow!!  Very frustrating.

These forums are helping.  There's another one for over 40 year-olds that I've also joined.

I wish everyone well!  One day at a time....   Cool

Weight Loss Weight Loss Info and Tips (i lost 120lbs this way and thought i'd share the info) Jul 15 2008

Wow! That's awesome- that's a great weight loss!!  I just joined this site yesterday and have already found it helpful ~ I think mostly because of the camaraderie I've found with others.  I used to go to Weight Watchers meetings and found that helpful - but with my work schedule it got to be too difficult.  This accomplishes the same thing (talking about stuff) - only it's better because I can get on here whenever I have time.

Anyway, Congratulations and thanks for sharing your weight loss tips!  You're an inspiration!

Hi to PuppyKisses,

I've been feeling depressed lately too and I think I understand how you feel.  I'm finding that it's good to express myself.  I’m a first-time blogger – learning as I go. Do you ever feel like you are just right on the edge - and if someone just said a kind word you would cry?  That's how I've felt lately.   At least here we can feel safe to say something - to console and to encourage.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter and I'm here if you need to talk (or type).  We all have these emotional issues (or at least most of us do) - and I think we can help each other.

Sometimes I tend to keep things in - when I start feeling low my friends just don't hear from me - I go into my cave.  So, this blog has been a great way to get it out.  As I've heard, the issues that weigh us down tend to lose power once we have expressed them.  Or at least we don't feel quite as alone.

Take care, and you are in my prayers, as are all of the wonderful ladies on this forum.

Hi to all of the "over 40 Ladies" in this community.  Have been reading some of the posts - and it looks like a lively group!

I'm still navigating this whole website - hopefully I'll get it figured out soon.  It's fun and gets my mind off other things!

And to those of you who commented on my page - thank you again.  I'm so glad I found this "community"!

One Day at a Time as they say - and I got through yesterday staying on the program.  And halfway through today - and all is well.  Have been praying a lot!

Again, I feel so touched by you'all who have reached out to me.  I appreciate your encouragement!!
