What about Traditional Chex Mix? Less calories and fat than potato chips and they're my favorite. Of course, everything in moderation.

Weight Loss I hate my doctor's scale! :) May 22 2009
10:31 (UTC)

I will attest to the same thing. Doctor's scales always seem to make me heavier by 3 to 5 pounds. I take my shoes off, take everything out of my pockets and sometimes will just weigh myself with the gown on they give you to wear.

I went out and bought two scales. One digital, which seems to be the least of the accurate and another, similar to what you see in fitness clubs, etc, like a health-o-meter scale. I have found that if the floor is not level, the weight will not be accurate. Make it a point to weigh yourself first thing in the morning, right after getting out of bed and hitting the bathroom. It's important to weigh yourself the same time every day as weight will fluctuate throughout the day and the body will retain more water and salt during the summer months. Also, drink plenty of water.

Move your scale off the floor and try it on another floor say in your bedroom that is not carpeted.  I guess the only accurate weight we would be able to get is if we could sit on a postal meter. :) Otherwise, paying good money for a scale that isn't accurate is a waste.

Congrats to you! I hit the 4-0 two months ago and working on the 5-0 plateau.

I tried on a pair of old Tommy Bahama Jeans that I loved but stopped wearing a year ago. I can now put them on and even button them. What a feeling that is. I started CC in July of 08 and owe it all to their guidance. I have learned so much from this site. I realize keeping it off is just as hard as taking it off, so CC starts my day and ends it. CC is my personal trainer. Essentially, yes, it's all about eating less and moving more.

I will have one of my favorite Beers (Stella Artois) in celebration of our progress Friday Night.

Foods Another hungry complaint. sorry :/ Mar 07 2009
14:10 (UTC)

I usually have a snickers marathon protein bar for lunch 290 cals with 20 grams of protein, about 17 almonds (100 cals) and an apple. I also drink water all day (about 4 -16.9 oz bottles) This will carry me through to dinner and despite a job that I'm on the move all day, I rarely feel hungry. My breakfast usually is OJ, a lite english muffin with Olivio, not butter, a banana and cup of tea. Half of my calorie intake (no more than 2000) is usually consumed by dinner and I always save a few hundred calories for a light desert such as a 100 calorie blue bunny fudgicle.  I might also recommend an egg beater with a slice of lite cheese for breakfast with Tropicana light OJ (50 cals) for breakfast.

My success is primarily from sticking to my guns and this website. (40 pounds in 8 months.

Good Luck!

Weight Gain Calories in a slice of pizza Jan 12 2009
10:37 (UTC)

Very difficult to count calories on take out pizza. Some shops use part skim mozzarella and others use whole milk. As you can see, calories very from one shop to the other and most of the mom and pop shops will never let you know what goes into their delicious offerings. I usually order pizza with just light mozzarella. Mozzarella and cheese are one in the same. I usually count three pieces as 1200 calories. I like to guage my calories on the higher side and I believe commerical pizza with mozzarella is higher than 300 calories. If you add sausage, mushrooms, anchovies, hamburg, or whatever else, that all adds up. I"m not sure where CC gets 300 calories for a piece of cheese pizza but I think they are counting cheese as grated and sprinkled over the tomato sauce? Mozzarella Cheese is high in calories and fat. I love pizza however and try to have it once a week, without over-doing it, which is so easy. Ask your pizza shop owner what type of cheese he's using. They'll most likely tell you, real cheese.

Bon apetito!!!!!! Sometimes we have to indulge.

Weight Loss Weight watchers or CC? Jan 07 2009

WW did not work for me. It maintained my weight but I could not lose a pound.
I was shelling out over 10 bucks a meeting or 40-50 bucks a month and that got expensive besides the initial costs. I dropped out after 6 months.

I found CC by accident on a  web search and have lost 36 pounds since June. There are no 10 dollar meeting, no fees to join and no boring meetings that reminded me of Amway rah rahs.

So, for me, CC is the ultimate guide to success in weight loss and control. It's like putting your car on cruise control. All you have to do is steer it in the right direction.

By the way, WW now offers their program online.

Good Luck!

Weight Loss Gain 2 Pounds in 2 days!!! Nov 19 2008

There are many diet drinks that would count as water. If you like green tea, Lipton makes a diet green tea that would count as water. Only down side is it contains aspertame. Some people will not touch aspertame. Powerade also has a new drink now with zero calories and would count as water as well. There are many other options.  Water is tasteless, so I'm assuming you just don't like the dynamics of drinking too much of it? If you're eating a lot of salt and tha hot dog is loaded with salt, you should be drinking something. There are days that I'm not in the mood for water myself, but it become so routine now, that I don't even think of drinking four 16.9 bottles of aquafina or daswani. You should also eat fruits, especially bananas and some veggies.

Good Luck and as far as exercising which results in pain, a simple 20 minute walk is better than nothing at all.

Fitness Don't know how to log this... Sep 28 2008

Good Morning,

I think it would depend on your activity level. I stopped logging any activity and listed myself as "light activity" even though I have a job where I'm on my feet all day and walk 4 to 8 miles a day. I have found this works better for me and I don't get the false premise that I can eat more to set off the high burn activity. Based on my age, etc, I'm going to burn 2550 daily by virtue of a light activity life style and consume 2200 calories. There are days I burn far more than that and eat far less that 2200 calories. I have lost 26 pounds since mid-June just by watching what I put in my mouth, staying active and being sensible.

I would check your activity level and start from there. You may or may not want to list this activity at all, depending on your activity level/lifestyle. If you need to log it, match it up with something that has a fairly high burn rate like power walking, bike riding, etc. In other words, whatever works best for you, run with it.

Good Luck!

Young Calorie Counters All guys dig skin and bones? Doubt it. Sep 23 2008

I think it's a stereotype to think men like skin and bones. There's more to being attractive than being a size 4.  I think men like women that take care of themselves. In other words, all women, all sizes, can be attractive to any given man. There are some women that feel they should show off a big over-hanging belly, for the whole world to see. I find this extremely unattractive and don't know too many counterparts that like to see it. In today's society there are very few woman flaunting skin and bones. The majority have some excess. Could you imagine all woman being size 7's or less? When I married my wife many moons ago, she was a size 3. That size is history now but I still love her the same. I think there's more to being over-weight than being attractive. The health ramifications such as heart problems and diabetes should be the focus. The doctors are the ones that like good weigh in numbers. Not anorexia.

All women are beautiful. It's just how they take care of themselves.

Weight Loss "Cheat" Days? Sep 14 2008

9

Saturdays are my cheat days but I stay within the calorie range. I can still have three pieces of cheese pizza, 4 or 5 Coors light , a few chicken wings and pace myself that I don't go over the Calorie Counter. The weight watcher plan also allows a cheat day but I'm not one to go crazy. I still manage to pull out a B+ in nutritional value, eating sensibly before we go out. When dining out, it's not necessarily the food you're eating that racks up the calories, but the way it's prepared. If you can't find nutritional values on this site of certain restaurants, google it and you'll find most of them. Eateries such as Red Robin, Unos and Romanos Macaroni Grille are online. You would be shocked with the calories in some of their offerings. Everything in moderation usually works.

Weight Loss Protein/Carb intake??? Sep 11 2008

This is quite confusing. If we were going to pay attention to carbs, would we not be doing the atkins diet. I thought this site was more about calories. I do about 65-75% carbs and most days end up with an A on nutrition. I have also lost 25 pounds in two months. I'm working on bringing my protein up but mostly everything I eat is carbs. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but counting carbs is NOT what this site is all about when losing weight?

Thanks!

Weight Loss Am I doing something wrong? Sep 10 2008

I think everyone is different and there's no set standard for sleep. I'm twice your age and get 6 hours of sleep or less a day. My job requires walking and standing for 8 hours and I am active as well at home. I consume about 1750 calories a day and carbs are typically 65% of my nutrition value. I found sugar does play a part in the "tired feeling" and stay away from a lot of sugar, concentrating on more protein. You might want to try a good nutrition bar that's very high in protein and see what that does for you. I fully realize that sleep is so important in maintaining weight. I'm just a person that does not require much sleep to function adequately. I also find that working with people your age, they do get plenty of sleep. Some get 10-12 hours. Not sure if that's a generation thing or not. Again, everyone is different.

Health & Support Ughh...constipation. Why?? Sep 03 2008
03:52 (UTC)

Hi There,

Hope you're feeling better with the IBS issues. I would talk to my doctor about your symptoms just to rule out any blockages, etc. Metamucil helps IBS symptoms and there's several new drugs on the market as well. My IBS ran hand and hand with fibromyalgia so I was really on my own, as to when and how it would show up. One day constipation, next day just the opposite.

Best advice is to check in with your doctor. Let me know how you're doing.

Have a nice day!

(sorry it took me so long to get back to you)

What a GREAT post!

Yes, we are all in this together, men and women alike. It is very difficult for men to lose weight as well. Very easy to put on, difficult to lose. I started putting the pounds on after quitting smoking about 8 years ago. Food just seemed to taste better. Then, one tragedy after another occurred in my life. No, I didn't run back to cigarettes, I used food to starve myself on my first loss and used food on my 2nd loss to fill my face as stuffed as possible. Now, I have a control on my life and what I put in my mouth. Happy to say I've lost 22 pounds since coming here. It's people like you that give me the energy to continue on. I still want to lose an additional 20-30 pounds and it is attainable. It's all a mindset and it's all what we consider a priority in our life. There's an epidemic out there and it's called obesity. So, everything you said is so true and thanks for giving us a lift today. Greatly appreciated and good luck to everyone. Watch your calorie intake, stay away from McDonalds, watch the dairy and eat sensibly.

Happy Labor Day!  :)

I am not a doctor but your symptoms sound similar to a condition I had years ago. Simply put, IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME may be the condition you're suffering from. I would definitely give my doctor a shout and see what he/she says. You might also try a stool softener called Senokot-S. This product is safe and does the job. It's a vegetable laxative plus stool softener. Also, not sure if you mentioned anything about eating almonds, walnuts or cashews. Those seem to get things moving. Of course they have calories and everything in moderation. Your problem is not that rare. A vast majority of the population suffers from some type of bowel movement issue.

Good Luck and God Bless.

Good Luck........

Just wanna clarify that just because you sweat, that doesn't mean you're losing weight. That's the body's way of cooling off.

Quite honestly, I think anyone can do anything they want and achieve their goals if they put their mind to it. Count the calories and exercise. Eat good nutritious foods and switch your exercising routine around every now and then so your body doesn't fall into a trap and stop losing the pounds.

Again, good luck to you!

I think by having a scale, it only shows your tenacity and committment to your goals. I have a postal scale for my ebay side business but I haven't used it yet. I think it's a great tool and assist. Keep up the good work.
