Original Post by tempestadesm: As many people can better explain, you should definitely be eating far more than 1200 calories a day if you are exercising! This might be part of your problem. You might be starving your body. =/ |

| Weight Loss | New 15-20 pounds Weight Loss Support Group CLOSED! | Jun 17 2009 04:32 (UTC) |

Hello! I'm Twila and I'm just coming back as well. I got to within 5 pounds of my goal weight (170 to 150) using this site a few months ago. But, now I've creeped back up to 161! Ah! And I had half a pizza and ice cream today, lol, so it's not getting any better. Too bad I'm getting married in October! So I'm back and need some motivation to get down to 145 again which is the weight I was at when I started dating my future hubby. =) Also, I'm trying to get him to lose some weight so that he feels better about himself so I'd be interested in exchanging some recipes. I never know what to cook and truth be told, I'm not so great at it. Plus, I know some of the pitfalls because I've already done this. =) Honestly, calorie counting is the ONLY way I will EVER try to lose weight AGAIN! It rocks and you can do it! :D So put plainly: My goal of 145 is by September 1st (so I have time for dress alterations.) I'd like to lose a pound a week so if I weighted 161 this morning, I'd like to be 160 next Monday. =) H: 5'7" CW: 161 GW: 145 GD: September 1 |

| The Lounge | Do you think people can change? | Feb 03 2009 02:38 (UTC) |

People CAN change. But selfish people have a hard time changing more than others because they selfishly don't want to.... (Well, really, I think that people really have to want to change. I think he probably just wants to keep getting the benefits he gets from having her around. I doubt he wants to change. Just because someone says they can change, in the heat of the moment, isn't saying that they WILL change. Actions speak louder than words.) |

Everyone is worth more than five days, because you've got a whole life to live. You have to make this come from the inside, and say: My life is my life and I am the ONLY person who can change it!! Support systems are nice, but you are the only person who will continually be there for you, through thick and thin, no matter what. You have to love yourself enough to say you deserve this. And trust me, you do deserve it. Because you are the only you on this planet. That in itself is enough reason for you to be a happy and productive member of this society. Without you, hundreds of people would be affected. Even if it's just that guy you let in on your way to work, he appreciated you. If he can appreciate a total stranger for a minute, you can certainly appreciate yourself enough to change your life. You CAN do it! :D |

| The Lounge | Only dieters/EDs binge? | Feb 01 2009 00:21 (UTC) |

I don't know, but I really hate that term. Maybe because it DOES make me feel guilty? I never call anything a binge. I've eaten entire bags (I mean, FAMILY SIZE bags) of potato chips and never called it a binge. Then people on here eat three cookies and are like: "OMGZ! HALP! BINGE!" and I want to say: "Seriously?!" I think you might be on to something. When I eat those potato chips I know I shouldn't have, but I don't think about it beyond "Wow, you feel like crap, don't do that again!" Three cookies wouldn't even warrant that. That's a large dessert, lol! But I think that advice still holds. You have to get back to normal. You can't just validate your guilty thoughts this way, as something "normal people" can't understand. Maybe we can't understand it, but the answer is obvious. You have to stop feeling guilty and start exercising self control. |

I think this is more about the media going over board than the actual story. I don't see why her picture needed to be there, either. =/ I don't understand why women are embarrassed by these things either. That, IMO, could be the only reason she didn't go through the correct process. Because of her embarrassment of turning in her baby. To piggyback on EnchantingImage I also don't know why women are embarrassed to buy condoms. PLEASE. It's a simple retail transaction, no one is judging you. You have to make decisions for yourself and just do them. Get over it. That nurse would probably never see you again, ever, in YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. You would be surprised how few people are educated about birth control. It makes my brain hurt. You should've heard some of the things my fiance told me when we first stated dating. Even my school taught incorrect information. Friends of mine have called me up crying, thinking they were pregnant, when they absolutely couldn't be becaues they don't understand how BC works. Once I have a little more time, I'm going to look for ways of getting information out to people. I don't know how, but any one person who it helps would be enough. |

| Weight Loss | Is this the right plan for me? | Feb 01 2009 00:05 (UTC) |
|
If I were you, I would just exercise a lot and eat whatever you want as long as it's clean. Exercise is going to make you lose the fat around your belly area more than dieting. As a teen, I would think you would need to be eating 1600 at minimum AFTER your burn. Even as an adult eating under 1000 calories is a serious problem. Unless you meant 1600 plus the 878 you would burn for a intake of 2478. Which I think sounds like an excellent plan because it's pretty much what I suggested above. Burning that much would mean getting a lot of exercise (like playing sports) and eating 2400 calories would mean you could eat pretty much whatever you wanted. If you learn to exercise and eat healthily now, then weight shouldn't be a problem for you in the future and you won't have to resort to calorie counting like a lot of us!! Lol. |

As long as you're not cooking yourself up alfredo every night, I think you will see weight loss doing your tae bo and cutting out fast food. I don't think you have to count, but I think it is very helpful to see the number of calories in things so I recommend counting at least for two weeks. I was shocked when I realized a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwhich could have 600 calories. |

I totally forgot about this thread, but I'm soooo glad so many of you have posted!!! I've been to Italy, and while I definitely wouldn't mind going back, I also wanted to go somewhere completely different. (Though eventually the FH needs to go there and see the Colosseum. It's just to fantastic not to see. As well as just about everything else in Rome, lol.) And since we'll probably be vacationing over winter break, somewhere warm! (Although we were thinking about Norway. OMG, cruise along the shoreline? AMAZING.) New Zealand is a definitely possibility. My sister is there right now and her pictures look amazing! I've heard Greece wasn't as beautiful as Italy, but maybe that just depends on where you are. I'd be worried it'd be too cold to enjoy the Isles in December. But some of you have suggestions I have never even thought about like Corsica, or the Czech Republic, Fiji, Bora Bora, Dubai, Morocco.... Now I have tons of research to do!!!! :D I personally would love to go to China or Japan, but I think it would be a little too much of a culture shock for the fiance. I want to go somewhere that might have something resembling something he might eat... Lol. I will NEVER go to Australia though. I have watched too many disasterous deaths on the nature channel to go there. I will be praying for my sister every day she is there. O_O |

My parents are both on Facebook! I don't think my mum really gets it, but my step-dad loves it. He's very social and he's started talking to a bunch of people he knew in high school. He finds that really fulfilling. Especially since he travels for work, he can now get to meet up with all these people he hasn't seen in years all over the country! I think it's just your personality. I wouldn't get Myspace, though, unless you're 13... |

12/29/08 - 153.5 I honest to God have no idea how I managed to weight in at 152 again.... I ate so much crap this week! AGH! Terrible! So I guess this is just a boon telling me not to overdo it next week as well.... Girlfighting... I feel your pain. =/ I've been down to 150 then I always float back up. If you don't have an exercise routine, get one. I know that it's coming for me eventually if I really ever want to get down to 145 again and not be skinny-fat. That's the only way I ever got to 145 and the only way I'm going to ever get to my eventual goal of 140... If you already have an exercise routine, I'd say change it up. Start really looking at free weights.... |

I think my fiance would have to have a job, but I wouldn't care at all if he were a stay at home husband. I can't imagine he'd do much housework, but if that's what he wanted, and we could pay our bills, I don't really see the big deal. Is the forum full of men? I think men are a little meaner to other men about it. Maybe they're just jealous. ;) |

I don't know, because I'm a chick, but I know my fiance can easy gain and lose muscle. He works out for a week and immediately starts looking more buff. He stops and loses it all. If you stopped your work out routine over the holidays as well as put on some extra treat weight, I would believe you might look a bit softer. But I wouldn't worry about it too much. Once you get back to normal so should your body. =) |

I wouldn't join a gym where there weren't people on time to help me out. Will classes even run on time? Or do they really care that little about their clients? Besides, sounds like you have the right stuff at your place anyway. I like gyms because they motivate me by making me compete and feel bad in front of other people if I do poorly. But you if don't need that, I don't see any reason to have to leave your home for an unattentive gym. If you really want to join a gym, join one with employees who actually care. |

Hey! I'm also a surfing dunce, but I was almost 170 and 5'7" and now I'm hovering between 150-153. 1300 cals is definitely a good cal amount to lose on, I can tell you that -- I've been losing on it. :D But if I were you I would definitely focus more on working out so you have the stamina to remain on the board. I have skied, and the hardest part of that experience for me was to keep my legs in the correct form to actually do it successfully. It was very tiring after a while. I imagine surfing would be the same way. Good luck! And I am soooooooooooooo jealous of you going to Costa Rica! Be careful, though, if you go outside of big tourist areas, their water supply isn't very good. D: |

I have gas and my bill for a two bedroom is only like $70. (Maybe that's a lot, but it feels reasonable to me.) If you can, you might try comparing gas rates with other companies and see if you could be getting a better rate. I'd say, tell your roommate to stop smoking (lol, I know, yeah right) and keep the temperature between 70 and 72. Also, make sure your vents are open. I was like: "WTF?!?!?!?!!!!! Why is our bedroom 50 degrees!!! AHH!" Then I realized the vent wasn't open. D: I feel like an idiot who should never be allowed to have children, but at least now I'm a warm idiot. You might try splitting between space heaters and gas. But what will likely happen is you'll pay just as much in electricity as you will for gas. |

I'm sorry this happened to you, but I must ad that I feel a little sorry for people who have to plow snow. I guess I don't understand this particular situation. Is he moving the snow from the marina to wherever he feels convenient? (I.E. Your house?) My dad works for a state college and he has to work 16 hour shifts. Literally, he works for 16 hours. They put him in a hotel for 4 hours then he goes back to work for 16 more hours. It's ridiculous and he admits that he's really not able to think at a certain point and people could get hurt. I know he's done some really regrettable things like taken out rear-view mirrors and sidewalk paraphernalia because of this. (Also, they aren't really trained to operate these machines. They're just forced to do it and have to learn it as they go along. It's pretty bad.) Now, I'm sure my dad wouldn't pile snow right in someone's driveway, but at the same time, this guy might be overworked? And anyway, I'm sure he wasn't just plowing the marina for fun. Someone told him to do. |

Original Post by kaybug: Kaybug -- I DEFINITELY only weighed myself once a week when I was really trying to lose weight asap because it was just too hard to weigh myself daily. I only weigh myself daily now so that I can track every little fluctuation, especially since I don't count calories any more. (I think about them, I just don't track them, so it helps me stay on track.) I wouldn't weigh myself every day and count calories. That's just too stressful because you're doing everything right and you're body could just do whatever it wants there's nothing you can do and you just feel like crap. Two pounds in two weeks isn't that bad though. I'm sure you'll get back on track. :D |

| Weight Loss | Eat whatever you want every 14 days to avoid plateaus | Jan 12 2009 17:47 (UTC) |

I think the mentality that you can "eat whatever you want" is the reason a lot of people fall of the wagon after they stop actively dieting and gain a lot of weight back. The thing dieting is supposed to teach you is not to do, as Jane said above, a KFC bargain bucket and a tub of ice cream with a six pack. Maybe do have some cake and what not if it's offered, go for the alfredo, but don't gourge yourself. There are plenty of days I eat whatever I want, but I don't usually go over 2000 calories. (I realize I took this question from possibly the wrong angle, but the question of "whatever you want" seems more pertinant. I'm not sure if this would help or hurt but I also think you have to learn to combine life with weight sometime.) |
