Good morning, AGE: 46 HT: 5'7 SW 254 Challenge SW 246.6 Christmas GW 202 Ultimate GW 143
It's been a little challenging... All the bills for my MIL are rolling in and, of course she had no will so we are running aground like crazy settling her estate. On top of that, we are expecting to close on our new home any day now, so I've just been eating one meal a day in the evenings and going straight to bed. I know I will get it together, but it's going to take a little time I guess. Anyway, congrats to those who are bringing down the numbers and hang in there to those who are in a "holding pattern." Have a beautiful weekend, and tell someone today how much you appreciate them. |

My MIL died in her sleep at home Wednesday in the presence of her sons... they say it was a pulmonary embolism. My husband, daughter, family and church family are inconsolable... I have remained emotionless I guess trying to be strong for my husband, daughter, and BIL and to help them take care of business. The tears just won't come and everything is surreal right now. I guess that is part of the process. I told my husband that he and his brother only have to deal with missing her because they both were excellent sons to their mother. I figured I would post to make things seem a little bit normal for me. Please pray for us as we have to endure two services - one in NY and another in Alabama... As my pastor always says, if you live long enough, everyone will end up sitting on the first pew in the church to mourn... It looks like it's our time now... Have a beautiful weekend, and congrats on the weight losses. |

Good morning, sorry for being late again! AGE: 46 HT: 5'7 SW 254 Challenge SW 246.6 Christmas GW 202 Ultimate GW 143
Achievement of the week: Well, this weekend and week have been quite challenging for my family and me... We just found out my mother-in-law (69)has stage III breast cancer, and had been taking chemo and going through the whole process by herself for a month (she didn't want us to worry.) Now that she has finally opened up, we are helping her through the process. Yesterday, my daughter woke up with her lip swollen up to her nose, and it turned out to be a spider bite! Needless to say, I rely heavily upon God to get me through such things, so I am good! I just realized that I did not address my achievement. I guess it would be remembering to eat something while I've been running around like crazy. I am also down 20.2 pounds, 9 of which occurred during this challenge. A_mckh- You know you will definitely reach your goal by vacation time - you are doing great. Just be careful not to gain any while your on vacation... Christmas time is a great time to walk around and see the beautiful sights or lifting weights as you are carrying heavy shopping bags of goodies and gifts! Jaf - I see your numbers are headed in the right direction! Congrats! Les - Congrats on the loss. This is the only place where we can be excited about being a bunch of losers! **holds up hand to make the"L" sign** Ally- Way to go! It good to see you in the 160's! Happy midweek everybody! I will try to post on time Friday! |

Good morning! I am on time this week! AGE: 46 HT: 5'7 SW 254 Challenge SW 246.6 Christmas GW 202 Ultimate GW 143
Achievement of the week: I did well staggering my calories this week, and when I lost the pound, it stayed off on the scale, so maybe I am finally getting the hang of this, and could actually lose "2" pounds in one week! Secondly, my measurements went from 45-41-50 to 44-36-48. I have an hourglass figure... a bighourglass, lol, but an hourglass nonetheless! R4, I am glad your son is OK. A_mc, I have no new exercises this week... while I did learn the correct way to do the squats and lunges, I hadn't practiced doing them in sets of 30 as my physical fitness colleague recommended. So Monday I went into our conference room and practiced 30 lunges and squats and did them reasonably well... that is until after I tried to get up to go to lunch, and my legs were so wobbly that I almost fell! I had to get another colleague to help me walk around a little to regain my leg strength! It was hilarious! Needless to say, I am practicing them at HOME now with my 5lb dumbbells and doing much better! V, I think it is good to eventually wean yourself off counting when you are ready, so that your healthy eating lifestyle will seem more normal to you. Since I have so much weight to lose, I probably will count until my first anniversary with CC - that way by then I know I will have covered every holiday, birthday, vacation, wedding, and any other event where I would have to be concerned about the calories I consume. I think after a year, I will have pretty much covered what I want to eat and will have most of the calories committed to memory. Additionally, I should have the bad stuff also committed to memory and have a true sense of how to eat in moderation. It's true that we seem to have lost some comrades on the way on this post. If you are following this thread but not posting because you fell off the wagon or somehow got distracted, please come back as we are all in this together, and falling off is a part of the process. We can still help each other reach our goal. It's raining like crazy here in NY! Have a great weekend, and keep your money under your mattress! |

Achievement of the week: I learned how to do squats and lunges correctly, so I will now include them in my daily routine. Our 14th wedding anniversary was Wednesday, and my hubby's b-day was Friday, so we went a way for the weekend. I am happy that I was able to fluctuate my calories better than I had in the past. Leslie- Congrats on 20 pounds down! V_Aliva- A scale is only one means of measurement, and long as you are seeing positive results, you are doing something right. Just be sure you are eating enough food to compensate for your workout. Ally-First of all, thank God you are ok. You have time to get back on track as things begin to return to normal for you. Just make sure you are drinking enough water to flush out some of that salt... Alle- Congrats on the change in pants size! No numbers on the scale can compare to that!

Achievement of the week: I staggered my calories for the week. My dad surprised me by preparing a sirloin steak dinner for me with macaroni and cheese, greens, and a glass of PEPSI! I didn't have the heart to tell him no, so I ate it, and to my surprise, I enjoyed it without feeling guilty. I scored 1900 for that day, and averaged about 1400-1600 for the rest of the week. What I am noticing in this particular thread is that although many of us are moving slowly or not at all, or at a steady pace, no one is gaining 5 and 10 pounds or other drastic gains in the wrong direction, so that is definitely a good sign. I am learning that it takes time to fully understand how YOUR body works especially when you have to balance it with how much you're moving through the day. I am also realizing that there are lots of things that can affect your weight in addition to eating healthy. Too much salt, not enough fiber, personal medical conditions, bm regularity, and amount of water consumed can affect how quickly (or slowly) we lose weight. I think those weight loss commercials are an absolute joke. If you notice, they always show the people who lose 40-100 pounds and then put in small print **results may vary.** They don't tell you that your chances of doing what they did (in the time that they did it) are the same as your chances of winning the lottery. They also don't tell you that the people you see were working out in the gym like run-away slaves; and furthermore, why is it that you never see these people a year or two later to show that they maintained their weight? This always bothered me because they make people feel like they can't achieve the same goal, and then they become filled with shattered hopes and broken dreams...no longer wanting to go for the healthy body they were intended to have... all in the name of money. Yes it Sunday, and I felt like preaching! The collection plate will be emailed to you shortly! Seriously though, we are all beautiful and worthy of having a healthy beautiful body. For each of us it starts will healthy eating and some exercise.... after that, we must tailor everything else to our own specific needs. Like with raising children, there is no one size fits all method, but there are universal rules that just make sense. Be encouraged because there is only one you, and you deserve the very best including that size, 2,4,6, 8, 10 12, or 14 outfit you always wanted to wear! Go for it! Take your time with it, encourage others, be encouraged, and lets do this! Have a fabulous week! PS: v_avila, a_mckh, you are all that, and a bag of LAY's potato chips with no calories! Thanks for keeping us encouraged! Betsy, we miss you! |

Good Morning a_mckh! I am much better, and thank you so much for asking and being so encouraging! TTOM was really wearing me out because I have a rather large fibroid that my GYN keeps watching. I cannot believe that it has become a challange for me to eat 1200 and more calories a day. I know part of the reason is that I am a finicky eater, so when I am eating healthy, I don't crave food as I did when I ate junk. I am still working on it, but I tend to get full quickly. I am trying to stagger the numbers daily, but it is difficult. I guess another reason is because I only drink water, so I lose out on a quick 200 calories or so just from beverages. Now that I've lost 16 or 17 lbs, everything is shaking on me in a negative way, so I know I've got to do more than walking 10,000 steps a day. That too will be a challenge, but I am motivated. Thank you all for recording your experiences here. They allow us to see that healthy eating and weight loss is a process, and you have to be committed. It also shows that it works, without gimmicks, fads, and other useless remedies. I'm very encouraged! Have a fabulous day, and good luck for tomorrow! |

Achievement of the week: I had a feeling I would not move this week considering I was sick all week and barely made it to 1000 calories each day. I did, however, lose two more inches off my waist and hips, so that's a plus. Congrats to all the successes of the week! |

My daughter is also nine, 4'10, and 123 lbs and according to her family and friends, attractive. She is tall for her age and solid, and I too am concerned about her weight. Her school report said she was a few points out of her normal BMI range. She is a blue belt in Karate, was in a very active camp all summer, and hardly has time to vegetate in front of a TV. She loves to eat EVERYTHING (from Vegetables to junk food) so, making her eat nutritiously has never been a problem. Having said all that, my daughter's potential weight issues can come from a few sources: GRANDMA - Husband's mother is a chef and to her food is love... DADDY - To him junk food is a reward for doing well... (he's also a chef) CONNECTIONS - My daughter has a candy and junk food connection everywhere she goes from friends, to family, to classmates... HUGE APPETITE: When my daughter was about 5 months old, she would gulp down her bottle and then shake it to see why there was no more. Ever since then, she would continue to eat as long as you would let her. I have tackled this situation by first talking to the family and explaining how this does not help, but hurt her situation. Then I had a conversation with my husband about nutrition (mind you, he can still wear clothes he had in high school!) I finally got him to see that he was conditioning her to make poor food choices. Now he rewards her with fruit salad, popcorn, or an extra half hour to play in the park. The final step was to talk to my daughter about nutrition. I told her how the body is a machine like a car and we have to take care of it, and put the right things in it so that it will last and continue to look great (she loves cars.) I take her grocery shopping and let her pick the healthy foods. We study the labels and she can look at two boxes of something and see that one has less sugar or a lot of salt etc. I let her help prepare the meals, so she takes pride in eating what she prepared. We have our "dance session" every other evening where we just pump up the volume and see who can create the silliest dance. Is this the absolute solution - probably not, but she has lost 5 pounds over the summer, and in my presence at least, she is eating healthy, and when we go out, she will opt for fruit instead of french fries. Her self esteem is still in tact, and our family has benefited from learning about nutrition. I've spent half my life battling weight issues, I consider it my duty to try to keep my daughter from having to do the same. I wish you success in your endeavor! |

a_mckh, I am definitely no expert on the zig-zagging concept, but from what I have been reading on various forums and websites, you multiply your suggested intake by 7, and then distribute the number throughout the week being careful not to go too high or too low on a given day. I would think that alternating your numbers daily would be best, however, since I am reporting my weight on Fridays, I want to have higher numbers on Friday-Sunday. Then on Mon -Thurs I will do 1200, give or take 100 or two. I think to accomplish this though, you have to be cognizant of your schedule (evening plans, parties, etc) so that you will not be stuck at the end of the week with most of your week's calories already consumed. If that doesn't work, I will try alternating daily. Don't forget that if you are exercising, you are already alternating if you did not account for the difference. Eventually, I plan to only have to count calories in my head, but since I've only been following CC for 7 weeks, I will probably count either until the end of the year, or I break 200 - whichever comes first. I am still in "excited hyper mode," so I want to prove to myself that I can stick with healthy eating even when the novelty of weight loss wears off. As they say, "Slow and steady wins the race!" r4, I was wondering how we can compensate for retaining water during ttom. I was thinking maybe keeping my sodium intake really low the week before and during and drinking lots of water, but I need to research that. I don't have bloating or swelling, but the scale does not move until after the fact as you said. A 13 pound weight loss has taken me from size 20W to 16W (ok, 18W pants) which is remarkable for such a small weight loss. I can hardly wait until this time next year to see what size I will wear when I weigh 98 pounds less!

r4eBoxer: I am glad to know I am not alone! This has been both challenging and very humorus to me... Before, I used to skip breakfast because I was too busy to think about eating at work. Then at lunchtime, because my time was still limited, I would run across the street to the fast food place and get something incredibly high in calories which would hold me until I arrived home late in the evening. Then I would have something else equally fattening and would go straight to sleep from exhaustion. It took me three years to go from 229 - 254. Now I laugh because, when I am at work I look at the time and think, "Oh no, I gotta eat something.. I can't come up short of 1200 today!" As I am sitting here typing this, I am in my office eating grilled chicken breast and wing with pita bread and salad. as golden and crispy as the skin was, I refused to eat it because of the calories. I am really going to try the zig zagging (1200-1900) this week to see if I move this weight a little faster. I forgot my pedometer today, and now I don't want to walk because I can't log it, but I am going to. (Isn't that crazy?) Let me know if you see a bigger difference after you adjust your numbers... |

Achievement of the week: I hit 10,000 steps at lunchtime! However, after doing 1,200 calories for almost 8 weeks, I decided to up my calories to 1,900 just for Thursday in an attempt not to hit a plateau... I was sick and had an upset stomach all day. In doing the 1,200, I always figured my calculations were off meaning the calorie count varied from day to day, so I figured I was good... what I forgot to do was account for the days I walked - I did not increase my calorie intake. I know a pound a week is good, but I think if I were doing this right, it would be closer to two per week... I would appreciate any advice -- or did I answer my own question? Congrats to the losers, maintainers, and those motivated to continue... we can and WILL meet this challenge! Have a beautiful weekend! |
