Hi All,

I am 5' 7'' and I teeter between 147-151 in any given week.  I was just curious as to how much other women with my height weigh. Also, would like to know your best motivators for weight loss.

Thanks =o)

Same.  Goal is to get to and stay in the thirties while still being strong.

Roger: That is really exciting!!!!  GREAT WORK!

Plaid: Glad to see how well you are dealing with everything.  I look up to you for sure.

Me:  I have been MIA.  In which, I have gained 8 lbs and lost them again.  So, I am back at 149.  I have been under a lot of unneeded stress.  I had a mutual breaking up with my boyfriend which actually lifted a lot of the stress.  I think that is what helped me get down again.  Even though I haven't moved the scale since I posted, I am really glad to be where I am!

Love to all of you.  Also, I will be on the road to go to a Girls Summer Gathering associated with skateboarding in Ripon, CA.  I, therefore, will be MIA again.  You are all very awesome and I am sorry I don't participate very often.

Hey everyone.  I am thinking of joining Weight Watchers.  I am having trouble keeping disciplined.  Usually I am capable but with the influence of my boyfriend it is more difficult.  He means well but he doesn't understand.  I understand tho!  I went shopping and couldn't even fit in my normal size.  yikes.......  It is TTOM but..... stilll!   No good.  I joined with my family years back and i got to my lowest weight.  I think the structure might help.

Tanya - Go you!!!!!   I am super proud!  that is also so awesome that you replaced one way to react to stress wth another.  I do the same thing.  Your post is a good reminder that I dont need to find comfort in food or any substance...that I can relieve my stress through awesome activities like kickboxing.  I guess that's my cue to go shower and go skateboarding!

Everyone - I have a question.  Who drinks?  If you do, what do you drink?  How much have you been drinking while dieting?

I noticed the vodka and cranberry.  I have been drinkin but trying to keep track of the calories.  Do you feel it is easier to just refrain except occassionally?  Or is it ok if you factor in the calories?  When I was dieting amazingly (super self-control and I was super slim!), I only ever drank vodka and soda water/water.  I basically drank the shot and then drank a big glass of water.  I didnt associate food and drinking generally.  I also would have a coronita (small Corona) on my day off with a health lunch or dinner.

I honestly dont even really like super sweet drinks.  I rather have a strong drink instead of something with more calories.  I think, for me, separating drinking from food (and associating it more with water and taking my vitamins) helps.  When I drink beer and eat....and drink heavier drinks... I dont even feel good.  It feels good for the meantime...but later I always feel gross...and gain or don't lose.

Lemme know!

I got to skate out in the lovely weather today!  I got to skate my dogs too which makes me feel great when they get what they need.  I can tell they are happier puppies!

I did pretty well with food.  I had to get out of the house because people are painting here.  I went to Einstein Bagels and had an ancho chicken wedge and black iced coffee.  The wedge was hot!  I thought I wouldnt like it but after the burn went away, it was great!  Only 350 calories and delicious... plus I wasnt hungry for a good while.  Whenever I am active outside and often, it is way easier to manage my diet.

Sarah - You are strong.  I know you can be a good example.  Even when you don't think you are helping people, you are still influencing them.

Butterflymed - Cool.  How tall are you again?  I am already pretty strong.  My legs are straight up muscle.  My arms could use some toning but are still very strong.  I was stronger than my physical therapist guy!  My right upper shoulder muscles are not very strong, however, since I dislocated my shoulder in a crash with a nasty BMXer (nasty because he dropped in on me).  and yes......... that stubborn tummy fat!  It is and has always been stubborn.  It is really my main problem.

Hi, everyone.  Sorry I havent been so good at keeping involved.  I have been very busy and not on the internet.

I haven't been doing very well.  After I went to a party, it went downhill.

Last weight: 148.2

Pook: I might take your advice or your words.  135 might be my final goal.  I want to work on being strong and able.  Light and more frail is fine (as long as it is healthy)...but I like to be able to take care of myself...whether it be in self-defense, sports, or doing things on my own.  Once I reach 135 I think I will still diet but also work more on building muscle and being flexible.

13.2 lbs to go

butterflymed:  Congratulations!!!  When I was my thinnest I always thought I was fat..then I actually gained weight...and I was like "shoo, I wasnt fat!"  Retrospect is 20/20.  I feel so much better lighter tho!  I love clothes way more.  Even though I can wear other stuff, I just dont feel as good buying anything in a bigger size.  Lately, I have been feeling pretty upset at myself for gaining weight.  It is mainly just in my tum too!  which I hate.

Awesome, Sarah.

If that is your puppy, we might have somethign else in common.  I have a boy and girl pitbull.  My dog looks the combo of yours cuz i have a small brown and white one and a larger black and white one - my cows!

Sometimes I think if I am going to lose weight I shouldnt spend much time on the internet but if I spend my time on the right sites, it is a good idea.  My main sites will be ones for email, school, weather, and caloriecount.

My time here ends now.  I am going skateboarding with my puppies...then hopefully skateboarding on my own if it isnt too too cold.

Hi.  Plaidpooka invited me to join this thread.   Since my goal is not in the 120's right now (not sure if it will be), I will pretend that I have been with you since February and set my goal at 18 lbs.

My name is Ali.  I am 23, 5'7", and 148lbs.  My goal has been 135 to start.  I wanted a goal I really wanted to see me reaching.  My goal for this thread is 130.  If I feel it is a healthy choice I may dip into the 120's but I am not going to get ahead of myself.  I am 148 now and on my way out.  Haha!

I am easily influenced this is why I wanted to join this thread and get support.  Even reading this forum and adding my calories up keeps me pretty accountable.  However, when I am hanging with friends in the Midwest (where A LOT of people are at least overweight or out of shape), it is easy to conform to the eating habits.  (When I was in Florida, it was easier to conform to the in shape habits - I had acountability.)  I am a "When in Rome" person...but I also am the kind of person that knows how to put boundaries.  That is how I come off very uninfluenced.  I make the good influences greater than the bad ones.

I hope I can get on this train and stay with you ladies or gents (if there be any).  I hope I can get to know you and be an encouragement as we all reach our goals.

Much love.

I hope I can still join.  My main reason for my weight problems has been how I am easily influenced.  I moved to a place where people are ok with being overweight and encourage me to be overweight.  Not the best when you want to fight temptations!

  • Age: 22
  • Height: 5'7"
  • Start Weight and Date: 156 I think after I stopped smoking!
  • Current Weight:  149
  • Goal Weight and Date you're hoping to reach it:  135 by this June
  • Weight Loss History:  Stayed around the same weight for years... I go from 130 to 155 usually.
  • Your Weight Loss Plan:  Get it done.  1200 calories

The reason I get fatter is because I mope over issues I shouldnt be concerned with... I need to be pleased with myself and have control.  Food has been only comfort.  Hopefully I can get and give comfort here.

For me exercise actually helps.  Mine get really bad.  The trick for me is to get myself caffinated (coffee, soda, red bull) to get moving and take some advil.  If I can catch it early and take some pain relievers and some like water pills, I am great!  If I catch it late, it is hell!!!  Mine has been so bad lately.  It actually calmed down finally.  I was so bloated yesterday I actually was feeling full most of the day but I still had cravings.  I ended up eating a lil over 2000 cal but at least I burned like 800 cal...so if I use that logic I still was at 1200.  I think I am learning dark chocolate is the way to go.  I think Lindt's 85% cocoa is pretty good.  It can hurt my stomach to have too much on an empty stomach...but it has the least amt of calories for the most amt of real chocolate.  3 servings of Raisinets really doesnt get me too far.  To keep from eating the entire bag of Raisinets I scarfed some Lucky Charms.  That weight watchers stuff all seems to be a good idea..and the chips.  I think the way to save yourself is just really thinking out the math of the calories and food amt.  Get the biggest bang for your buck.  Like.. if Im in scarf mode and want some chocolate, I just had like 4 Raisinets and a rice cake or two or three.  Even tho I still hit 2000, I think I def could have done more damage during this visit of Aunt Flooo.   aye!!!

it might help too if you make sure you're getting enough iron.

I agree.  Make sure you figure out what it is.  Maybe take a multi-vitamin with iron if your doc says it is a good idea.  I remember people said I should eat more calories...but they were wrong.  I was just deficient.  I actually need very little calories even when I workout to lose weight!  but.. i am a young female here!!!! so make sure you make the right choice for you!  Just adding my exp...which may not help!  ha!

Weight Loss Who else stays in their calorie range, exercises and still gains weight or doesn't lose weight? Aug 02 2008

Original Post by elliestarlight:

Hi

Don't be discouraged, I began trying to shed weight. .. (losing implies I want to find it again..I don't).. anyhow.. I began IN February '08 and being 260+ I had a long way to go... being heavy.. exercise was out of the question except walking.. ill health set in and the initial loss was very very slow... but after I determined in my mind and got encouraged from some very good CC members I persevered and the loss increased...

Sorry meant to say...l I followed the diet the Doc gave and I gained... there was more on it than I normally ate, so I reduced it and found that worked.

The Doc put me on 1400 a day... I kept a diary, cut out dairy, and increased protein and fibre, veg & fruit was never a problem.. and daily managed to get under 1200.. began to increase my walking until I was doing 10,000+ per day.. then 8 weeks ago began training with free weights 3 times week.. light weight and high reps.. repeating a circuit session..of aerobic (walking on machine, cross trainer and light dance) then shifting to light weights, and back again..ending the session with 10min spurt on cross trainer at fast speed..(usually to some Ibiza mix) the whole session taking about 1.5 hrs.. on the days I am not training..I just walk..or light dance... it is slow progress, but I can see a difference..having lost over 16lbs..setting small goals helps as does weighting daily..keeping record..all help encourage when feeling low..

Everybody's body is different, and what works for one may not for another, work to suit yourself, set your own goals, and above all don't give up...if I can do it ..(I am the most laziest person there is) anybody can.

Yeah, way back my old doctor gave me a diet to follow too and I was heading to being overweight!  Again, I am thinking either I measure too much or that calorie amount just doesnt work for my body.  Genetics does have some to do it and changing activity levels.

I agree.   Same thing with me.  I decided to follow my friend's advice.  She body builds and boxes.  She was saying I was eating way too little calories.  (This was when I was losing weight and really healthy.)  So, I listened to her and upped my calories and my exercise.  I just gained weight.  Some is probably muscle...but I rather just be how I am.  I was already strong to start.  I just dont need to eat as much as she suggests.  Plus, since I dont weigh my food, I am probably actually usually consuming more than I think.  They say it is way more accurate to go by the weight of your food (except for liauids).

I decided to stop following their diet and do my own old one which didnt result in weight gain!  lol

Can I still join this?  I posted on Wednesday so I assumed...but maybe not?

Either way, good job everyone!  Also, I dont know why I put "plain food" because I am realizing everything I am eating is delicious.  I feel better not eating junk.  Other food makes me feel bad afterwards!  This makes me feel really good that I am getting my healthy amount - not too much and not too little - of what my body needs.

My only complaint is that my butt hurts from cycling.  haha.  I sucked it up this morning and did it anyway (after even trying to put a pillow on the seat to no avail!).  My butt will get used to it soon.

I wish you all pain-free butts and health living.

I know exactly how you feel.  I lost 16 lbs and kept losing.  It was so strange since I love food too.  It did just take time, getting on with life, and talking to my friends.  I looked great tho cuz i had weighed too much with him since he made me eat things...way too controling.  So i shed him and the pounds...But it was a grieving type of losing.  I never have lost my appetite that much in my life.

Ha, I feel like mine...Even tho fighting tears accmopanied my loss of appetite.. was a blessing.  I lost extra weight I had and then met some gay guy friends who took me shopping... I ended up going out, feeling great, and having fun.  Now I am trying to get back to that weight and even healthier.

Weight Loss Advice:Smokers/Former Smokers Jul 22 2008

I say let yourself gain a wee bit and then plan on losing it right after you are over the smoking.

I stopped smoking almost two months ago now.  I gained a total of eight pounds but I already lost six of those.  It is totally worth it.  I feel like I didn't really have a life when I smoked!  I was so chained to it!

Gaining weight was one reason I didnt want to stop either.  I actually lost 16 lbs when I started (I was also going through a break-up).  ...so you can imagine how I would want to cling to the ciggies.  Even after my urges were gone and being depressed about the 8 lbs.  I thought of smoking again...But I didnt want to put myself through that.  I am so glad I didnt start!  I am already almost back to my old weight and way way way healthier and happier.

I could say more that you should know that made it easier to stop smoking...but I know other ppl provided that.  I just want you to know that all the info really helped cuz I had tried to stop before without info...and it didnt work for me!

Also I probably wouldnt have gained 8 lbs had I been working...and had my G-pa not been dying.  I stopped smoking during a stressful time in my life.  I guess it was a good test but I doubt I would have gained as much if life had been a little more peachy.
