Weight Loss What am I doing wrong here? Nov 07 2008

Here is the thing. The first time around, when I put sedentary, CC told me to eat 1250 cals a day -- without me even setting a goal date. 1250 cals? Yeah, maybe if I was more concerned with becoming anorexic, I would do that. On other members advice, I was told to eat at my BMR, which is 1620, but I lowered to 1600 to make it even. Now, when I put in light activity, CC tells me to eat 1450.

I am not sure what to believe. I hear a whole lot of stuff about how eating below your BMR is going to bring upon hell fire and brimstone. I also hear a lot about how when it comes time to actually get past a plateau, I would need to lower my cals, and eating at say 1400 wouldn't give me much wiggle room if I had to lower them 200 cals, which would put me at 1200.

I am honestly sure of what to do here.

I just wanted to say that Canada is a great country, definitely superior to the United States. The Canadian gov't treats their citizens extremely well, and there is a reason why they prosper and we flounder -- because we are in it for the money, not for the well being of people, in my opinion. A government is not a business, and should not be run like one. The people who I know that live in Canada love it. I don't know anyone who is extremely proud of living in the United States -- I know I am not. I am glad that Obama is the president elect -- yet keep in mind what happened in the Al Gore vs. George W. Bush election -- Gore technically got most of the electoral votes, and therefore he won. Notice how the "f*ck up" state was Florida, a state where George Bush's brother was governing - and they "re counted" and all the imminent ruage began. I lost faith in the country after that.

We elected someone who is NOT black no matter what anyone says. He is a bi-racial dude, so he's both. He just happens to have some African American in him, which is great, a first, but he is not the first black president by any means. Anyway, I don't trust either one of these fools, but McCain was ridiculous.

Hopefully one day, we'll do it Canada style and get some free healthcare!

Weight Loss Another calorie question Nov 02 2008

CC picked my goal date, and it was 1250. It said my goal date was July 9th...but I am thinking that it's not at all possible, and I will shoot for this time next year to hopefully be done with it.

I burn 1960 cals a day, just being alive. I did the equation, and it said to eat 1620 cals (I adjusted to 1600 cals) per day. If I subtracted 200 cals, I'd be at 1400, and if I wanted a 1000 cal deficit, I'd have to work out to give myself a deficit of an extra 500 calories.

I was wondering if 1400 was too little to eat, or I can get away with 1400, and then zig zag my calories when I stop losing with 1400?

I was under the impression that if I started at 1400, when I got closer to my goal, I could start zig-zagging the cals -- like eat 1600 one day, 1400 the next, etc. Maybe that makes no sense, and I should stick to 1600?

I was planning on zig-zagging, 1600 to 1400, but now I am not sure THAT is even a good idea.

Um, I was in a Macy's once, scoping out some amazing purses with my BF. This one guy who was all talking to us and stuff asked "Boy or girl"...I was in the middle of walking away any how. He FOLLOWED US, proceeding to ask when I was due, the sex, etc. I was HORRIFIED, and sooooooooooo embarrassed.

Yeah, f*ck that.

Weight Loss What made you WANT to lose weight ? Nov 01 2008

What made me realize I needed to, was when I saw I was becoming like my mom and dad. They are fat people, and they do nothing about it. My younger brother was, and lost nearly 100 POUNDS! He looks FANTASTIC. A little too thin, IMO. Me, I saw the scale reach 180...after being 116 ALL through HS, then a healthy 125-135 a year after HS....and it kept going up and up. I gained 20 lbs since like, December of 2007. It's a disaster.

I don't feel pretty. I feel like my BF, who I love so much and who loves me, is no longer attracted to me. It needs to stop.

Foods The different between satisfying and "just wanting" Oct 31 2008

My most satisfying meal is tortilla pizza!

I take two tortillas (100 cals each) put on 1/4 cup of Ragu pizza sauce on to each (60 cals per 1/4 cup), and then I sprinkle it with Kraft mozzarella cheese (80 cals per 1/4 cup) put in the oven and let it bake to perfection at 375* for around 10 minutes (depending on how you like it) and voila! Crispy tortillas, perfectly melted cheese, and so friggen good to eat. It is my STAPLE, for sure. If you have not tried it, you should.

Games & Challenges Abstinence - what do you think? Oct 31 2008

I stay away from chips, and all that fried nastiness. Well, even baked chips, which are a favorite. I will TRY to keep away from ice cream -- I know I can. Since I moved down South, the brands of ice cream, like Mayfield are incredibly good! Back North, we didn't even have Ben and Jerrys around...more just Breyers and that kind of stuff. Anyyywayyy.

You don't have to stay away from pudding. I have seen and eaten pudding that is sugar free, even.

I think the only junk I let myself have while on a diet are pretzels, which are not bad in moderation, and 100 calorie microwave popcorn.

So, 1600 is a better number to shoot for than 1650? I'd say 1600 sounds good to me as well. I guess I just have to try and see, but I can see that I will have results, just based on the fact that it is lower than what I need to maintain.

How many lbs do you think I should readjust my cals after? 10 seems like it may be a good idea, but the number probably won't go up or down drastically.

I am still afraid that I am doing something horribly wrong. Maybe I should shoot for 1450-1650 cals, and not beat myself up if I don't eat exactly 1650 one day. I feel like 1450 is too low, because if one day I am stuck, lowering my cals to 1200 isn't far away. I feel 1650 is too high, and will keep my gaining or just stuck.

Where did you come up with 1450-1650 being a good number for you? Experimentation, or you just calculated it and did it?

My 21st birthday was uneventful, because everything I could do at 21, I started doing when I was a lot younger. This was nearly a year ago. 21st bday was lame, however I am looking forward to an age where people don't assume you're a trashy alcoholic -- like 22. =P

Weight Loss Should I really be eating 1250 cals? Oct 28 2008

I know I have to. What sucks is that since I gained so much, my knees started to give me issues. Walking is not out of the question, I think I just need to train them to be stronger. Exercise is something that I know I can do...but finding the right cals...I am not sure I can. I feel like I have been led in every direction except the one I need to be on.

I am not sure walking will give me a good deficit...it's only walking! I'd love an elliptical...but who knows when that will happen!

Well, considering I am a fat slob -- exercise is like...non-existent. Unless you consider walking up 4 flights of steps every day, at least 2-3 times exercise. I'd like to start walking 30 mins to an hour, though.

I am 5'8. When I was anywhere from 135-145 I was a size 9 mostly which is roughly a 30 inch waist. In some brands I was a 7. Now, at 180 lbs, I wear a size 16. When I was 160, I wore a size 13.

Weight Loss Should I really be eating 1250 cals? Oct 28 2008

Okay, so I think I will stick with 1400 calories. On the website you gave me, amethystgirl, 1633 cals seems a bit high, and would only give me a 300+ deficit. I'd like to start off with a bit more than that. I am afraid now even at 1400, because lowering my cals wouldn't be able to do much if I needed to, since I can only cut out 200 calories realistically and on the safe side. 200 cals may not make a big difference. So...maybe I should shoot for 1400 - 1600 cals a day, and not freak out if I am above the 1400 mark...because apparently I'll still be fine eating up to 1600.

Maybe cals vary because of height, age, and amount of weight to lose? I am utterly confused. When I weighed less, and I was on CC for a month, I was instructed to eat 1400 cals. Now that I weight more (About 20 lbs more) it says to eat less. I just want to follow GOOD instructions to get GOOD results.

Well, I am five years older than you, and the situation was always different. I was very thin all my life, and I was the "black sheep" because I was not overweight. Anyway, you should not worry about what your family thinks of you. It doesn't matter what they think, because you are the only one who has to live with yourself. I know I can't be of much help to you -- but I hope you understand that you shouldn't have to go around trying to please everyone.

Okay. Before I was 5'8, around 135-145 lbs and wore a size 7 to 9, depending on the maker. I usually stayed a steady 9.

I am now 5'8, 175 lbs, and wear a size 13.

Oh God, and I remember when I saw on the news London and Canada, and I think Russia, raising OUR American flag and playing OUR national anthem. I was so devestated, and so thankful for that obvious outpouring of pure LOVE. I am not a religious person, but God bless those countries for not being so selfish like we are. Seriously. Another country playing our anthem and raising our flag...above their own. My God. We would never do that, and they are just...wow. Fantastic people.

I remember going up to the towers as a kid, looking up and thinking wow, it's so big, nothing can ever hurt this thing, it's bigger than everything. I remember looking at the towers on my way into them at 9/11, and a plane hit the building. I remember when they fell, the many friends and many family members I lost. I remember thinking of my friends who in some cases lost both parents and their siblings. I remember how my heart broke, and breaks every single day because of how much I got taken away from me in one day. I feel resentment to this day, for people saying it "wasn't a big deal". Maybe not compared to what goes on in other countries, but it was horrible. I remember overhearing tourists say in October of 2001 "It doesn't look too bad, they made it look worse". Too bad? There is dust, debris, EVERYWHERE. They weren't around when there were literally body parts lying around. They watched it on TV, they didn't lose anyone, they are on the outside looking in. They cry because of other people's pain, they don't know what it is like to have it happening to you.

I don't know. I am just so angry.

RIP to all my friends and family, I love you, and I will NEVER forget you.

RIP to all my firefighter friends/family, I thank you not only for being a friend, but for trying to save others and be a friend to them. All gave some, but some gave ALL. You made the ultimate sacrifice, and I love you.

To all those who lost someone on 9/11/2001, I wish you nothing but peace, happiness, love, and eventually, closure.

The Lounge Can men and women be friends? Sep 08 2008

Males and females can absolutely be REAL friends. I have many. I have had many friends, good looking and other wise that I have absolutely no interest in dating, or connecting with on that kind of level. I think my girl friends are pretty, I can think my guy friends are good looking without being sexually attracted to them. Why can't girls and guys be just friends? Why do people always have to assume they will be attracted to one another? It may be easier for an attraction to spark when you are single, because you are around other single people, and you click well...but honestly, that does not mean that single women being friends with single men is something that can never happen, because they "will" be attracted to each other. Not everyone is attracted to each other. Not every friend wants to end up in bed with another friend.

When I was single, I was not attracted to my guy friends. Now that I am in a relationship, I am not attracted to my guy friends. I don't need people trying to tell me that my guy friends want to screw me, or that I want to screw them. Simply NOT true.
