I have been with my husband for seven years and became vegan during that time period. As vegans/vegetarians we have to understand that our convictions are our own, and not push them on others. I feel good that I can save the lives of many animals every year, but not everyone believes the way we do. If you love the person, in my opinion, this is a small issue that can be worked out. As long as there are animals, people are going to be eating them.

Although I should be celebrating, I am not because _______________________.

Because New Years is very sad where I work (7pm to 7am)......I am a Postpartum nurse and we had 2 Mothers come into the hospital with dead full term babies becuase they thought that Cocaine and alcohol were more important than their children. :(

So many people die unexpectedly on new years.....its such a poor excuse for a holiday! Why does it have to be a big drunk/drug fest!

I rang in the new year giving antibiotics and pain medicine.

I am so not working New Years Eve or day next year!

I am so sorry about your MIL! You and all your family will be in my prayers.

Well ladies I can say that I have officially fallen off the wagon, and I mean really fell off! I am up 4# of well deserved weight because I ate everything in sight for the last 2 weeks. I have been through 3 birthday parties and 2 baby showers, the third baby shower is at my house on saturday for my little sister. I have eaten cake, pizza, french fries, enchiladas......it was all wonderful. I feel i have almost completely reversed my progress. Not in pounds yet but in will power and clean eating. I am so disgusted and dissappointed in myself! I have gone from 23 pounds lost back to 19....bummer!

I need help. I am not hungry but I am craving everything!

Without this group I would not have enough motivation, so thank you to all of you who are still here and trying! We will get there! Ok guys.....I am a nurse to new moms and babies and I can tell you that diseases and viruses....specifically aids...can be transferred in breast milk. I don't know about you guys, but I haven't heard of a cow with aids. Humans as a whole are filthy....1/3 of patients have an STD, not exactly what I want to be putting in my body! It is a bodily fluid, we use condoms for safe sex.....why would anyone readily expose themselves to another presons breast milk? Speaking of hormones and antibiotics, humans are the most overmedicated creature on the planet. Just trying to explain the "ick factor."

I know what I have to do to lose the weight and I want to do it, but I still ate what I wanted and didn't exercise!( I am going to give myself a little break, I had the flu!) I have a beautiful picture of me in a pink formal gown that I looked absolutely to die for in.....of course at my optimal weight that is still 50 pounds away. I have put one on the fridge and keep one in my purse. Knowing what I looked like once and will look like again is a major motivator. Another think I do is list what I should weigh if I stay on track for every weigh in. Knowing that in 4-5 weeks I will be down another 10 pounds keeps me plugging away. Best of luck!

I am a nurse in a postpartum unit and have gained 70 pounds in 3 years....yikes! I am now on a mission to get the weight off mostly for my health but a little for my vanity! I love tall women because we understand that beauty truly isn't in a number on the scale or a pant size! I will be jumping for joy to be a size 12 again....anyone with me on that? The fair is also open right now where I live! I had been looking forward to 2 items....a corndog and a wonderbar (in case you don't know its a piece of frozen cheese cake dipped in chocolate and rolled in peanuts). I ate a small breakfast and a salad for lunch so I could eat my two craved foods for dinner and still be under maintenence. Some people will say that you should avoid these foods but for me if I hadn't eaten them I would have felt deprived! I shared each item with my husband and ended up eating about 1000 calories. If you can save the room in your diet I say eat a favorite food and dont feel guilty about it! Enjoy the fair!

I understand your concern completely! I started CC in july and have lost 18 pounds so far, my hubby said that if I stuck with it long enough to lose 15 he would join me. Well, 15 came and went and he isn't interested in changing his habits right now. I encourage him to think about what he is eating and to start exercising at least a couple times a week. I just figure that if he isn't ready he won't stick to it anyway....better let him decide when he wants to commit to a lifestyle change. He is very supportive of my though! :) They will change when they see fit, or they develop a health issue that opens their eyes to how much they need a change. Good luck and you are doing great!

This week I lost 1.2 pounds which is good because it is a loss while I am dealing with TTOM issues! My fingers are so swollen right now! I am excited to lose the water weight and see how much I have really lost. 3 days ago I was at 224.0...I started to put that today, but don't wanna count my chickens before they hatch! I have definately reached the 10#'s lost mark...yay! I am going to go for a 35-45 minute walk this morning and then do some strength training!

Weight Loss WHEN did it happen? Sep 02 2008
13:47 (UTC)
14

I got very frustrated in the beginning because I was being very strict with my diet and had started to exercise and saw no movement for the the first three weeks! In addition to that I was starving because I cut what I was eating in half! (and I eat 1600 cals to lose weight!) It can be really tough to get started, but once you do its a lifestyle....not a diet anymore. I have been doing this for a month and half and have lost a total of 17 pounds so far! It's not always easy...but you are really ready to lost the weight, nothing can stop you! Best of luck and believe me....the scale will move very soon!

Weight Loss my weight is jumping around.... Aug 30 2008
14:26 (UTC)
5

Actually, this just happened to me last week. I started my C25k workouts and my weight jumped up 2-3 pounds, stayed that way for about a week and half......then all of a sudden went down by 6! I think it was water weight kept in my muscles after using them so vigorously. It will come off....and you are supposed to eat more after working harder! Just make sure your deficit isn't more than 1000. BTW how tall are you? If you are tall them 144 is a good weight for you and you could just be gaining muscle and toning, just a thought. Good luck!

Hey at_one! You are doing great! You have lost 7# so far and that is alot for someone already so close to goal! I totally understand your feelings of continuous hunger! The only way I've found to beat it is get rid of all sodas, especially diet. The carbonation makes our stomachs stretch and hold more so they are harder to fill up! I cut the cokes and now feel hungry only when time to eat....or when craving something bad! (the half or less rule works for me...ie only half of the chocolate chip cookie!) I also increased my protein....if you will eat lots of protein for breakfast....sometimes I eat 50g in that one meal...I stay really full for a long time! Good luck....I know we will all make it to our goals!

Edit: Needed to tell you my motivation! I have made a chart of every weigh in and beside written what I should weigh if I work hard and eat right. Seeing that number go down to 199 from 234.8 is my major motivation! It also lets me know that in 3-4 weeks  I will be out of the 220's and into the 2teens! All of these things excite me!

Weight Loss How much should I be eating? Aug 22 2008

Hey Kelleigh! Thanks for the reply! My burn according to CC is 2200 at sedentary and 2500 on lightly active. I am a nurse who works 3-4 12 hour shifts every week, and spend a majority of that walking. I exercise every day off, about 30-40 mins of cardio and 20-30 mins strength training. About an hour alltogether. But outside of work and exercise I am not very active. Should I be lightly active or sedentary? If I put myself as lightly active do I still log my exercise or is it already included? Any input is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I think alot of us had a bad week! Not that we didn't try....but the scale just isn't cooperating! Great Job Alle and everyone else. The weight HAS to come off if we are doing good in our eating and exercising. This week is TTOM for me....so my weight is just staying still mostly, and also I have alot of constipation despite drinking lots of water, exercising, and eating fiber. As of right now I am down .2 pounds from last week....I am hoping that alot more water weight drops off over night! We'll see in tomorrow's weigh in! Good Job everyone!

Pregnancy & Parenting Why is my belly not growing? Aug 05 2008
22:03 (UTC)
13

Hey there, congrats on the pregnancy! I am a nurse in a postpartum unit so I work with alot of pregnant and recently delivered mommies. With your first pregnancy your body has not yet "stretched out" (terrible I know) so your ligaments and everything are really tight still. Most first timers do not show until 20-25 weeks. Now when you have your second one, be prepared to show at about 15 weeks- the hormones pick up right where they left off with the first one! No need to be concerned, just make sure you are eating enough and aren't having any changes related to the pregnancy such as bleeding, leaking of fluid etc. Can't wait to see you post some pics when you do get your tummy!

Ok guys, I had a pretty bad weekend. I weighed in on Friday, down 1.8# woohoo, then our company arrived. Of course we had to go out to dinner, I did fine by ordering grilled tilapia off the low fat menu, but then we went home and had drinks! I didn't count calories any more while they were with us. My overeating ended up being 2 margaritas, 5 dessert shots, and dinner the next day of 6 boneless wings and a few french fries. I am dreading friday even though I have been working hard today to get back on track! The difference between this lifestyle change on past diets is that I actually want to get back on track, I didn't lose any motivation whatsoever! I am drinking water like a camel and exercising with incredible intensity. We'll see what friday brings! Good luck and do well this week!

Weight Loss Sooo Hungryyyyyy Aug 01 2008
21:30 (UTC)

I went through the same thing. We are used to overeating so when we restrict out calories to below maintenence (Which is probably lower than we were eating anyway) our stomachs feel empty because they are stretched out. I am in week 3 and 8# lost!!! The first week was miserable, but my stomach is adjusting. In addition to what the others said and eating more filling foods, you can cut out carbonated drinks- the carbonation stretches your stomach. I did and it has really helped. Good luck and stick with it.

Weight Loss weight loss men vs. women Aug 01 2008
21:26 (UTC)

Men lose more weight, and should stay thinner in general because of their physiologic makeup. Their heart pumps more blood through their larger vascular system thus burning more calories. Their lungs are larger than women's meaning they burn more calories simply by breathing and exchanging oxygen throughout their bodies. I actually read that a man would have to overeat by 40% more than a woman in order to become overweight. So yea.....men burn more, and have to worker harder to gain weight! Not fair.
