Allright...my last post was the first of march. And well, not counting calories didn't work so well for me. I am now married :) but all the stress + honeymoon + snacking and having more food available means that I am now over 160. *sigh (I was 150 last time I checked in). So I'm back to losing 15 pounds, this time my husband's joining me (he made it up to 190 with everything that went on). Its good to see/hear from everyone again, and expect weekly updates from me :)

Foods any one else LOVE the health benifits of fats? Apr 01 2009

Flogging Sully wrote: Trans fats are either poly or monounsaturated but are never saturated.

Is this a typo? I thought that

  • mono unsaturated fats were good for you. mufa's !
  • Trans fats are made of hydroginated and partially hydroginated oils,
    • distinctly not poly and monounsaturated fats, which are supposed to be the healthiest, (next to the omega's) like that found in olive oil, almonds etc.

thanks for any clarification! cuz now im confused. . . .

mono and poly unsaturated fats are good for you because they contain cis double bonds which bend the long carbon chain and make the fat molecules not able to pack tightly. Saturated fats are completely hydrogenated so they have no double bonds and are straight which means they pack well and can be solid at room temperature. A trans fat means that the fat molecules have at least one double bond that is trans instead of cis, this causes the fat molecule to kink but mainly stay straight, which turns out to be a very bad combination for your body. Since the very word trans means theres a double bond, trans fats must be mono or poly unsaturated. Hope that clears things up :)

heh I'm a 34DDD and I've just decided that most people don't carry that size, its annoying, and I don't lose weight there, but my mom certainly does, so it depends on the person for sure

Sorry, but since you typed in huge, dense paragraphs with no breaks, I just couldn't read through your entire post.  Actually, I only got about 3 sentences into before I quit reading.

Because of that I can't comment on your problem.  In the future you might want to break it up a bit more to get more responses.

If you thought those were huge paragraphs I wonder if you have ever read a book? I don't think the problem is her writing style, so if you can't read the post then don't respond.

I'd go with moving in with your mom and visiting your Dad when he is actually home. That seems to be a lot more worthwhile than sitting in his empty home while he is gone when you could be spending more time with your mom. Plus, that might make him realize that he is distancing you with buying certian food and not being around, which in turn could enoucrage him to clean up his pantries and spend more time with you :)

Motivation Why is size 9 a large at hollister co? Feb 20 2009

While I'm not against a store selling to a smaller clientel (and by some of the posts such stores are obviously needed) i do wish the people who shopped at such stores realized that bigger sizes don't necessarily make a person "fat". In high school I had a bunch of short really thin Asian friends who all liked to shop at such stores and I felt so out of place because at 5' 10" and 160 ish pounds i simply could not fit into any of their clothes even though I wasn't fat. Further, in one store while looking for a size 13 jean another customer pulled out a pair of jeans and said to her boyfriend "13! what elephant wears that!" I can't tell you how much that hurts a 15 year-old's self-image and I never shopped at that store again, not because I didn't like the clothing, simply because I didn't like their clientel. I think it would be good if such stores had a few more larger sizes so that groups of friends of different sizes could still shop together and the small, and the large(r, usually meaning taller and curvier) people wouldn't be left out.

I'm a biology major and sugar certainly isn't toxic...its one of the most necessary chemicals in life. Even if you don't eat "sugar" your body works very hard to convert whatever you do eat into glucose (sugar) because that is what your body needs to make the energy that sustains you. far from being toxic sugar is good for you. If you eat to much your body converts it to fat to store...but in moderation sugar can be very good for you and not toxic at all.

Well I know I'm not doing na amazing job with my diet. I doubt I'm eating 1500-1600 calories, more liek 17-1800. But since I don't have a date set that I need to lose the weight by its ok, its just coming off a bit more slowly. But I'm down to 149.6! so less than five pounds left till I hit my goal weight!

Hey guys,

I've fallen off the wagon, I'm up to 153 (from 151.2) which I know isn't a ton but I'm more jsut frustrated that I've been fluctuating between 151 and 153 for about a month and now I'm fluctuating more at the top end of that range. Which means I'm no longer losing weight which I think is due to the fact that I haven't been logging my food, I'm in college and we eat pizza, and there was halloween. So this is a little bit of a rant but more trying to use you guys to stay accountable and become motivated again to eat less (cause I like eating more SOOOO much better). I really like the weight I'm at (I would still like another 5-7 pounds off). So I don't want to gain my weight back.

Ok, well that was my rant, thanks for listening,

Michelle

Weigh in: 154... :( I don't get how I've gaind two pounds in a week...and I really don't think I've eaten over maintenance. I haven't had a god week cause I've been sick and TTOM so I havnet been counting even though I know I should. But my weight shot up to the 153-154 range and has just stayed there for the past few days. I don't know what I did but I don't even want to log my weight right now...

Any encouragement or thoughts?
