maybe you'vehit a plteau in which your body needs more calories than you're consuming, so it's latching onto everything you eat, so you're gaining.  maybe up your cals a bit and see how that goes.  and after all, it's only 3 lbs.  i know we all have a goal weight, but be proud of yourself for being so close to it!!

hi there, i joined this site over a yr ago and have been visiting on and off since.  i would very much to join this group, if you will have me ;)

i stopped coming here for a few months because i was big before i left, but have balooned another 20 lbs sine then.  depression and getting hit by a car did it to me.  and while i'm doing everything i can to heal physically, emotionally, and psychologically from everything that has happened to me in my 25 yr life, i have realized that i may need help and support that i haven't yet found.  what i mean is that my friends and family are thin, so i feel like they don't understand my struggle, though they very much support me, if that makes sense....

anyway, i'm 5ft 4in (just make it in!) and i weigh around 170lbs (i weighed 165 last time i weighed myself, but think it might have grown a little since then...).  my lowest and goal weight is 125lbs, which is really healthy for someone of my build (when i was thinner i tended to me more tonned, plus i'm curvy, so i'll always have a little more meat on my bones than many thin girls...).

i'm looking for people who will keep me motivated and be able to give me advice on how control the binge eating (my problem...); people who will have some good tips to keep me on track in terms of exercise (though i'm limited dur to the accident, i'm determined to do the little my doctor has allowed!); and people who will not make me feel bad about myself (though i don't think this'll happen here).

so how does it work exactly?  this thread i mean...

yoga and pilates are great, but if you have a pool near your house, swimming is great for people with back problems since it supports your spine and works out pretty much all your major muscles!  and in the summer it's feels great.

in my case, yes, but i was a pretty big drinker.  stopped and i feel so much healthier (i still drink, but not often--like maybe 4 times a month--and my tolerance is WAY lower which is not only better for my health but also better for my wallet).  and yes, it stopped me from losing weight as fast as i wanted, but that's also because drinking makes me hungry...  so that could also have been the issue...

i'll tell you which is better.  and you're going to love this.  you get plain yogurt, fat free (i like LIBERTY Organic).  i buy frozen blueberries, take out about 1/2 or 1/3 of a cup the night before, put in container in teh fridge overnight.  in the morning, mix with some plain yogurt and add a tsp of maple syrup.  or two, if you need it.  the juice from the blueberries melted, the maple syrup.  it is THE BEST yougurt i had in my life and it's all natural.  which is ALWAYS better.

i got a cuisinart griddler for xmas.  think george forman grill meets panini grill meets frying pay (it's got two attachments).  so, i rill my salmon all the time, just plan with a squeeze of lime juice and freshly cracked pepper.  or i also make a sauce sometimes, i just put some light philly in a sauce pan, add some fresh dill, and let it melt.  yum.  i buy sushi grade salmon, so i can leave the middle a little rare, which i love.

Foods local but not organic or organic non local?? Mar 15 2009

it comes dow to which is most important to you.  i choose local, since it polutes less, costs less (if you go to a farmer's market) and a lot of the time you can find organic AND local.  any organic dairy or eggs you buy are always local, FYI.  i don't know where you live, but here in quebec there's a site called "equiterre" through which you can contact a famer who delivers near you and you can get locally produced produce (and meat, but you have to pay more for that) for pretty cheap.  you can share the baskets with a friend so it's cheaper.  it's all seasonal and it's SO delicious.  they even have winter baskets.  yummy.  i assume most places have these kinds of services, so go to your local organic store or even ask when you're at the famer's market and see if they do this.

indian curries with fresh veggies and a bean (chick pea is my fave for curries).  you can also make thai coconut curries with lots of veggies and some crushed cashews/peanuts in top.  veggies with some shredded cheese on top, bakes, so good.  bean salads, with some quinoa (like couscous, but really high in protein).

i love it with pineapple.  the super sweet with tangy contrast in yummy.  or with granola.  but if you don't like sour things at all, not even a little, you won't like it.  keep with vanilla for a milder flavour that can mix with most (deserty) thing

you can, but they won't taste as good.  if you substitue the oil, keep in the milk (1% is better).  or if you keep the oil, use skim.  etc.  fat makes things taste better.  in moderation obviously.  but if you substitute too much, everything tastes like cardboard.

everything in moderation...

at this time of year, i make a batch of soup for the week (for my suppers).  split pea, veggies with beans in it, or one with diced up chicken are good and very filling and lean.

for lunch i tend to make myself a bean salad of sorts (with quinoa and veggies and lots of spices/garlic).  or whole grain pasta and spaghetti sauce.  sometimes i do sandwiches with lean proteins and veggies.  i always bring a fat-free yogurt (liberty organic is my fave), some cut up veggies (which i prepare the night before if it's soemthing like cucumber; if it's celery i do the whole stalk and put it to soak in water, which also helps to take away some of the sharp taste), an apple.  i also have a food drawer filled with canned bean salad, low fat granola bars, and teas.

i also buy my lunch 3-4 times a month, usually sushi (love it!), sometimes fancier, but i need those little things...  i do go out for dinner and i do splurge, but when i eat something decadent in a restaurant i always doggie-bag part of it: makes you eat less cals PLUS you get to have the decadence on another day, so you stretch out the pleasure.  yum!

good luck!

Health & Support What's Anemia? Nov 29 2008

in short: iron deficiency.  and because of it, many syptoms follow.  if you think you have more than one of the above and you don't eat enough iron (many vegetarian, for example, are slightly anemic, but lots of other people do as well), you can try to up your iron intake.  but don't go overboard since you can get iron poisoning from too much of it.  try to just eat more (not get it form a pill), stuff like dark green veggies, turkey, beef, chocolate (dark) have iron.  do this while your waiting for your doctor's appointment.  only they can know for sure what your symptoms are about.

agreed: support is key.  i think you're doing it though (driving him to meetings and talking to him).  i've never been through this kind of thing exactly, but i have been through diffcult times with friends/family before.  you can make it through.  remember not to foget your friends, since you might need someone to talk to right now yourself.  they love ya!  they might be the best for advice right now as well.

stay strong!

when i used to get throw-up sick (it's been 6 yrs, so i'm knocking wood i keep up my streak), i would have flat ginger ale (not diet), apple sauce, and plain white rice with some butter/margarine and salt (to help you retain fluid your losing because your not...keeping food in, to put it nicely).  i'm also a big fan of lipton's chicken noodle soup.  mmm...  all these things are easy to digest and have suagr (for cals) and salt (for water retention which you need when you're this kind of sick).

feel better soon!

Weight Loss Non-Calorie Counters Out There? Nov 18 2008

i counted for 3 months and gained 5 pounds.  why?  i was obsessed with food: i would calculate how much i had eaten, i would think about the things i could fit in for the rest of the day, i would wonder how many calories something had.  all this thinking of food made me SO hungry!  and i almost always went over the limit which made me upset with myself, which made me want to eat.  just to make things clear: i'm 5'4" (ish, maybe a little taller) and 150 lbs.  i am not a tiny girl.  i would like to weigh in at 125 lbs.  i think this is a good, reachable, healthy goal.  anyway, now i'm up to 155 lbs and i decided a few weeks ago to stop counting/weighing myself.  i haven't weighed myself since then, bt my stomach is a little flater and my pants aren't as tight.  my trick: i bring more food than i can eat, but it's aways healthy stuff (yogurt, apple, granola bar) as snacks.  and a goos lunch (like a home-made curry, or a mexican inspired dish made with beans, ground tukey, quinoa.  things like that).  i eat all my lunch and snack is i need to.  drink water.  and so far this has been the best thing for me.  i exercise (dance classes) 2-3 times per week and go to the gym once or twice a week.  sometimes none, just the dancing.  and i feel so energized.  positive.  normal.  i can't do the calorie counting thing, but i DO like the recipes on this site so i stick around.  sorry to haave told you my whole story.  but bottom line: don't do anything that makes you feel obsessive or not good about yourself.  sounds simple, but sometimes we forget...

good luck with your weight loss/maintenance!

make it from scratch.  you'll know what's in there, so you can have to transfats if you want.  for an easy icing: icing sugar plus water until you get the riht consistency.  fat free.  or you can do a cream cheese icing (icing sugar and cream cheese--you can use the low fat version for less fat, but i find the fat free kind doesn't give the right consistency or taste) for a creamier version without being full of butter and such.  in fact, how about a carrot cake: replace half the butter with apple sauce (i say half because it tastes better than replacing all of it and a little fat on his birthday won't hurt).  it's got carrrots (vitamin A and fiber), walnuts (protein and healthy fats) and spices (tasty, fat free, and have lots of healthy qualities like stress relief, etc).

I remember today.

I like to take our children to the cenataph to see the rememberance service. It is always cold, like it is today, but worth the few minutes to remember the choices that were made to allow us what we have today.

Last year the wife and I were in Boston for Rememberance Day and were wearing poppies on our jackets. There were a few people who saw us and asked about why we were wearing them. It was a nice feeling to be able to share why.

I remember.

It's so sad that everyone does not know and remember.

i think it's not a symbol in the states as much as it is in canada.  it's nice to have a symbol for rememebring, in silence, and thanking the veterans.  everytime they see a poppy, they know we remember...  how can we not thank them, especially in canada, since they helped keep the battlegrounds for teh WWs away from home.  bless them.

Recipes Help with dinner......... Tuna........... Nov 11 2008
15:04 (UTC)

you can make tuna cakes: like crab or salmon cakes, but with tuna.  V'e never made them though, but if you like tuna they must be good.  you'll also need potatos, onions, spring onion/chives, and some spices.  mash potatoes and mix in the rest.  make them into patties (like hambuger patty size--small ones).  in a pan add a little bit of oil or non-stick cooking spray and fry them up.  could be an appetizer or the main with the asparagus and sweet potato, or a salad

if you want to see only him then you should be honest.  but, as the otehr have mentionned, since you haven't been together very long he might take that as meaning: let's do the family holidays thing.  that might freak him out.  o don'T really bring it up.  just say you want to take it slow still, but take it to the next level and try being exclusive.  it's always works for me.
