I love his hair.  Most boys dont have such shiney hair!  I sure wish I did b/c I dont know where he got it from.  I have naturally curly fluffy hair.  My whole family loves his hair, its just the outsiders.  I know they dont matter too much but it did to him.  When he gets older and wants it cut I will be happy to....well not really but I wont stop him.  I just dont him to be a kid that care what others think, if I can help it.  If I cut it now he may think that the man was right and mommy was wrong.

Thanks everybody.  I actually felt a little silly right after posting this.  I started to think you guys would think im crazy.  Things really do change with a kid. You want to do everything to protect them especially their little feelings.  I was never this sensitive before he was born now Im fighting back tears when he says his ABC's.

Well at least I dont feel so crazy anymore.  Thank you all!

People can say the most awful things without thinking a thing about how nasty it is!

I'm so sorry you had to bear that! He's a cutie!!

The thing I think is most important is for you to let your son see you standing up for him. It doesn't have to be in a rude way. It can be a simple comment that you adore his hair that it's so soft, shiney, etc. . . Then later talk to him about people who make nasty comments and explain that if everyone agreed on everything the world would be a very plain, boring world.

I have been known to ask someone who made an insulting comment to me if they realize how hurtful their statement was. I don't think it hurts to point out what they've said is ugly. It's HOW you point it out that counts.

Good luck to you!!!

Thank you :)  he's just at that stage where he wants to be a "big boy"  I cant even call him baby anymore or he gets me about it and says "Im not a baby mommy! Im a big boy!"

Have you ever had somebody say something to(or in front of) your child that you just wanted to slap them for?

More times than I can count.  While my hubby and MIL don't agree with it at all, the majority of my hubby's family is rather racist.  I didn't slap them, but I have had to request that they don't say blatantly racist comments around my children.

And my FIL has a habit of calling his other son, the black sheep in the family, a "dodo boy", and consequently my 8 year old son thinks its okay to refer to people this way.  It's taken us a lot of time to rid him of that habit.

And FWIW, I think your little boy's hair is wonderful, and does not make him look girlish at all.  I hope you're able to talk with him and let him know he's wonderful just the way he is.  If his father and father's friends can't be more responsible, I agree that time around him and his friends should be supervised.  Good luck!

Wow, that would be hard.  Some of my family is like that too but they have yet to say anything around him yet.  I would hope they never do but they always did around me when I was growing up so who knows.

When the guy said it I explained as I usually do that I love his hair.  I have heard from a few people that I need to cut his hair but they were talking to me and not to a 3 yr old "sponge".  I didnt realize that it had much of an effect on my son until later on when he was trying to cut his hair and told me he didnt want to look like a girl.

Thank you and I have already taken the step to get him away from bad influences but the damage was done.  Im sure he will get over it but I never knew people could be that dumb and the guy had a 4 year old son himself!  I cant imagine what he says to that poor boy.  I have always overlooked advice because everybody has different opinions and I repsect that but this is the first time it has affected my little boy!  I guess its just because he is older now and understands things better.  This is my only child and I know I will experience this again probably but here's to hoping people think before they speak.

Oh and about his father he is not even around anymore, he moved 1000 miles away by choice. His loss IMO.

I still get so excited after a BM, but usually only when it's a really BIG BM. Gross I know, but I always have to check to see what was deposited before I flush and if it's huge, I get excited and the first thing out of my mouth is "That's gonna take ALOT of weight off me!" LOL

What a disgusting subject but it's true. I HATE those toilets with the automatic flushes. I have yet to figure out how to get up and see before it flushes. Yell

What a disgusting obsession. I've learned from the doctor that most of the foods I eat are low residue so I don't go really regularly, but when I do go it's a doozy. And I love the scales the next day lol! So yeah, I STILL do the "poo poo dance" even at work.

Safiyah

Hah.  You totally have to look!  How else will you know whether or not to be excited.  I guess my obsession comes when I just have a small movement and I get a little disappointed.  "Hmm...maybe if I just sit here for a little longer my body will get motivated to go more".

I down a glass of metamucil every day and that has really helped me become more regular and have more exciting poos.  Maybe you should try!  It tastes like dirt though.  Blech...

Just a suggestion...try Fiber-Sure clear mixing powder.  It's great.  You can put as much as you want in water and still wont taste a thing.  I have learned my lesson with Metamucil and will never go back!

Thanks guys for the good laugh....I thought I was the only obsessed one...yesterday morning I walked around with my scale and wieghed myself in every room with a hard floor just to "see" of the bathroom was making me heavier...also I have weighed my set of dumbbells to make sure my scale is accurate-

I do the exact same thing!  I did it last night as a matter of fact :D I have 2 scales in my house...one is a digital in the bathroom and the other is in the kitchen and is an old regular one with the little spinning thing(dont ya just love my knowledge of scales!) anyways my bathroom scale was saying 205 and my kitchen one was saying 198! Thats a big deiference IMO so I switched the scales just to see if the gravity was higher in the bathroom or something.  I got the same thing.  Then I saw a post here on CC that said the springs in old scales can wear out and say less so I weighed my dumbbells on it just to find out it is exactly right.  I got so happy thinking I weighed this all along!  then I did something stupid and weighed the dumbbells on the digital scale and it said the right weight too.  Im so confused!

Now I'll just stick to one scale and worry about the weight DECREASING then the actuall number till I can find me an honest scale like at the dr.'s office.......*sigh*

Fiber-Sure Clear-Mixing Powder is the way to go IMO!  Its great and has 5g of fiber for one tsp.  It has no taste and dissolves completely clear in even cold water, juice or anyhting.  If anything it makes water taste "softer" if that makes any sense? I have been using it a little bit at a day in everything just to spread it out.  You can even cook with it and it makes no noticeable difference to the food.

Try it!

Fitness Runners Live Longer Aug 15 2008

Good article. But if you haven't realized it yet over the past few decades there have been plenty of convincing contradicting articles.  One day something is good for you and a few days later somebody else says to stop because its actually harming you.   Then after you wait awhile its back to being healthy again.

Plain and simple run if you like it!  If you dont like to whats the point of wasting time in your life to live longer to do something you hate?  Time could be spend doing more enjoyable activities!

Hey ladies!

I guess I have been absent for some days, huh?  Oh well I just hopped on the scale for my weekly weigh-in and I am down to 201.4  from last week's 205.6! (SW 211)  I am soooooo happy.  I am so close to being below that dreaded 200 mark!  I cant wait.

So, enough about me for today. How is everybody else doing?

Weight Remaining Until Goal: 60.9

Total Weight Lost in This Challenge: 9.6

Foods I don't understand why people think healthy food is more expensive Aug 04 2008
01:01 (UTC)

Ok,  I just have to put my 2 cents in on this issue.  Sorry if anybody disagrees with this opinion...

I believe that eating healthy to lose weight is MUCH more expensive than eating badly.  I used to survive on the BK, McDonald's, Wendy's etc value menues.  2 burgers is only $2 (HIGH cal, fat, sodium...you know the rest).  Theres a meal.   Also Ramen noodles are very handy and VERY cheap.  You cant beat 15 cents a pack! Also, they are loaded with cals and numerous other "bad" things.  Water is more expensive than soda where a 2 liter is 50 cents at Walmart (dont even suggest tap because even with a filtration system Im buying filters way too often)! The list goes on, you get the point...

Now, for a meal, its veggies (from frzn) and a chicken breast. which is much more pricey than the dollar menu.  Also in order not to go into starvation mode I have to keep the calories UP and fat down with lots of veggies, which doesnt have many cals at all so therefore I have to find other "healthy" things to fluff up my calorie count.  Fat-free milk helps but that is expensive also!  Chicken, fish, etc are all still expensive even if its the frozen "cheap" kind.

This is embarrassing to admit but I made bad choices and therfore I am a single mother and living in the poverty level.  (tried turning it around by going to community college and had to quit to get a 3rd job to pay bills, now grants are out of the question)  I am spending A LOT of money on food.  Now I literally work to eat so me and my son can be healthy.  The way I see it is I want to be healthy so I can enjoy life with my 3 yr old.  I want to live to see him have kids of his own.  That is my motivation.

So, in conclusion, I am eating tons more healthy foods and more often to keep my calories up and to avoid going into starvation mode.   That gets expensive...

Well gurlies, I have had my 2nd official weigh-in this morning and am KINDA happy to announce that I went from 206.2 last week to 205.6.   Its not as much as I hoped but it is a loss and I am darn glad that it didnt go up!  I'll just have to step up my game this week and hope for the best.  I have to admit that I did have a few slip ups last week.  I work as a hotel desk clerk and the vending area is in plain view.  Those Milky-ways were screaming my name for hours...so I indulged  :( OH BUT IT WAS SO WORTH IT!  OK, OK time to get serious again!

Hiya ladies!

I dont really have the $$$ to get a gym membership at the moment but I do have the FIT channel in my cable lineup!  It has some pretty good workout vid's if I can ever get motivated to do em!  I did have to take a trip to Walmart to pick up some 5 lb hand weights.  For being so light those things can sure make me hurt the day after a workout video!  I also live about 15 minutes from the beach so I can usually walk in the sand for a great leg workout!  Its a beautiful view also.  The downfall to the beach is that if I go I MUST get in the water at least once otherwise its to hot to do anything...and this year the Jellies have taken over so you cant touch the water without a wetsuit on for protection.

The thing I hate most about being overweight is now that I am 21 and able to go out and have a "really" good time I feel so weird around all the skinny girls dancing around in their mini-skirts and halter-tops.  I want to feel secure with my looks and be able to dress how I want without people saying Im too big to wear certain things.  I know I am attractive but like a few of you have said society does not accept big people no matter what they claim so guys dont notice me until they get to know me.  Thats hard to do in everyday life.  I want to be noticed for once!

I am 21 (finally) and I am able to "legally" get out and have fun now but theres one thing stopping me...my WEIGHT!

I had a great body when I was 15 or so (at an age when it doesnt really matter) and I got my first job at Waffle House a week after turning 16.  Good money at that age but there was a problem.  The food was free for employees and I had the late shift.  That packed on the lbs.

I made a few bad choices and got pregnant at 17.  My son is now 3 yrs old and MY LIFE but I still have the nasty fat left over.

My wake up call finally came when a person I care(d) for and thought he cared for me called me a fat-a** but more words and much meaner...can you imagine?  I knew I wasnt going to be happy until I was happy with myself.

I am at 206 now and I have been a member of CC for a week.  I was 211 at the start of my journey ;)  I have been laying off of the junk and eating a balanced healthy diet along with some weight training videos.  My goal weight is 140 and I really feel like I will get there this time. I would love to meet some people on here that I can relate to.

Thanks northbeach!  Congrats!  I hope to be able to say that I lost that much weight in 6 months.   :)   That is amazing.  I have never been able to stick with anything long enough to lose this weight.  I hope this is it really.  I see a lot of people on here who have had so much success with this site and the tools along with the motivation and support.  I am using that to keep me going.  I get didcouraged very easily.  I even had a friend take my bathroom scale and hide it :P  I know if i step on the scale everyday I will be discouraged by the progress.  I am very impatient. This time I am going to take it slow and await the results in time.
