| Weight Loss | Overeating??!! Why do I do it?? | Oct 15 2009 01:41 (UTC) |

Biggest mistake was ordering that much food to begin with. Sounds like you would've been fine just ordering a couple of tacos. I have the same problem, if it's right in front of you, you're going to eat it. You can eliminate the problem by not having the food, or in this case the extra food, right there. |

Good for you. I would imagine I would have a hard time losing weight if I smoked too. I have a hard enough time trying to control what I eat when I'm sober! lol I am not a smoker and I watch what I eat, most of the time pretty religiously. However, my roommates are my younger brother and his girlfriend....they are high almost ALL THE TIME, and pig out on things like donuts, potato chips, granola bars, pies, frozen foods, pastries, cereal, etc. When they aren't working they're sleeping, eating, or playing xbox so it's not like they're active. The terribly frustrating part of it is, I work my a** off in the gym and trying to eat right, and they are both sooooo skinny....wtf?! How do they do it? But seriously congrats on the loss....and I'm really glad that you quit smoking, for your overall health :) Like I said, I couldn't imagine the things I would be putting in my mouth if I smoked. |

rice cake = 40-60 calories each sugar free pudding cups = 60 calories per cup frozen yogurt = about 100 calories in 1/2 cup serving any of the desserts in the Hungry Girl 200 under 200 cookbook! Tons of recipes under 200 calories per serving and absolutely delish! :)

Saturday consisted of thousands of terrible calories: bagel, PB, candy bars (plural I'm so embarrassed, but I think acknowledging the fact that we messed up, why we ate badly, and moving forward is the perfect remedy! I'm glad I'm not the only one! Good luck this week everyone!!!!!!!! |

A couple years back I had some gym eye candy as motivation too.....then I got to know him, and realized what a doucher he is... Bottom line, DON"T pursue anything...seriously, he could be a complete moron or something...once he opens his mouth it could ruin everything...then where's your motivation to work out??? Sometimes it's fun to have nice little crushes from afar...sure drool over him on the treadmill, show off a little, picture him without a shirt on or whatever, but leave it at that...otherwise your motivation could be crushed. |

Drink PLENTY of water. Also... Hot herbal tea>>>takes a while to sip, fills you up, calorie free, and comes in lots of different satisfying flavors...I'm loving honey chamomile, and cranberry/apple right now :) |

I go through cycles of night binging also...when I'm laying low in front of the TV or something. What I've found works, is budgeting the extra indulgence into your daily intake as GI mentioned, and simply making better, lower calorie decisions when the urge comes. When I sit down at night I grab a light and fit yogurt (80 cals), a rice cake (60 cals), and a bowl of grapes (50 cals). It fills you up, and reaching into the bowl and grabbing each grape feels like "snacking" and is more satisfying than reaching into a bag of chips or cookies. |

Avocado is a good choice>>>>on salads, in sandwiches, in omelets, etc. Bananas have fat. Eggs. Try raw unsalted almonds as well. Add PB to fruit and rice cakes. That's how I usually try to get my fats in :) |

I use some pictures, both of myself at my goal weight and of my fav celeb...but I find that my biggest motivations are little quotes that I have posted through out my kitchen...things that make me think twice about putting certain foods in my mouth. "A pleasure to the lips adds pounds to the hips" "Are you REALLY hungry?" etc....just little things that make me think about the food choices I make, and question whether I'm eating because I'm hungry, or whether I'm eating because I'm bored. |

Still strong :) Doing good! My baby sis and I baked my mom a birthday cake on Tuesday, and it took EVERYTHING in me to not lick those dang beaters! And I left the house before they cut into the cake, to avoid any temptation. I've been doing fine, no cravings or anything until I whipped up that cake batter and had something sweet right in front of my face.....but if it's not there, I don't crave it. Hang in there ladies!

Checking in :) Gosh I feel GREAT! I can already see the difference in my skin, the way my clothes fit, on the scale, just my overall appearance. And I feel amazing! I have a ton of energy and feel super motivated. My moods have improved drastically, but that's also something I've been intentionally working to improve :) STILL NO CRAVINGS! I'm eating all natural, raw foods. Nothing processed at all...just plain raw fruits, veggies, juices, sprouted grains, etc. I love eating this way, I've done it before...I'm an all or nothing kinda gal, so I feel like if I would've just half-assed it, my attempts would have ended a lot sooner than later! Lemme know how y'all are doin!!!!! ;) |

| Weight Loss | fat-carb-protein ratio??? | May 25 2009 00:14 (UTC) |

Original Post by gi-jane: perhaps you could enlighten us and tell us what there is then ;) 1) Fast Oxidizers should eat foods with more proteins and fats in order to slow down their rate of oxidation and insulin release, and to better promote stable blood sugar and sustained energy levels. It is important to make sure there is protein in everything you eat including snacks. Foods that are ideal for you (Protein) bacon, beef, dark meat chicken, etc.; (Carbs) mushrooms, spinach, olives, etc.; (Fats) sunflower seeds, peanuts, almonds, etc. 2) Slow Oxidizers burn through the nutrients in their food slowly and do not release the glucose from carbohydrates into the blood quickly enough, which means that they do not get converted into glucose, and energy production and availability are delayed. Foods that are ideal for you (Protein) white meat chicken, lean pork, catfish, etc.; (Carbs) apples, brown rice, beans, etc.; (Fats) raw and unsalted nuts, etc. 3) Balanced Oxidizes require foods that have equal quantities of protein, fat, and carbs in order to optimally process, produce and use the energy from their foods. Foods that are ideal for you (Protein) salmon, shellfish, eggs, etc.; (Carbs) tomatoes, celery, citrus fruits, etc.; (Fats) butter, walnuts, sesame oil, etc. By eating the foods that contain the ideal macronutrient ratios for your metabolic rate you will have less physical ailments and feel energized. I've been eating plain oats in the morning, homemade smoothies and shakes in the afternoons, fruits and veggies throughout the day, and lean protein with veggies at night. I'm limiting all of my processed foods actually.... I haven't really been craving processed sugars yet, but it's only been a few days....I'll probably need to checkin to this forum more regularly in a few more days to seek some encouragement....."Put the cookie down!" lol So how is everyone doing??? Any cravings yet??? And what are you doing to push through them???? |

You can also google a metabolic typing test... take one of these, or a few of these tests, about your eating patterns, habits, cravings, as well as feelings and energy before and after foods. This metabolic typing test will break up your macronutrient ratio for you, and if you eat accordingly, you will feel fuller longer, and use energy more efficiently. For example, I am a balanced oxidizer and function most efficiently on 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% dietary fats. Good luck :) |

| Weight Loss | I need help achieving a decent deficit | Mar 26 2009 19:06 (UTC) |
2 |
Try exercise and increased daily activity as a way to achieve higher deficits.....as an exercise maniac that's how I maintain large calorie deficits everyday! Try walks in the evenings as the weather is warming up, bike riding, hiking, your favorite sports, exercise DVDs, etc....walk or bike to the store instead of driving, stand instead of sit (this burns more calories), do jumping jacks, situps, pushups, whatever, for the duration of commercials on your favorite TV shows, etc...the more you move, the more you burn, thus larger deficits...if the people on the biggest loser can do it, so can you! Good luck! |

| Foods | What's "good" to eat at the Olive Garden? | Mar 26 2009 17:42 (UTC) |
2 |
Olive Garden has a garden fare menu with healthier options...the capellini pomodoro, shrimp primavera, or venetian apricot are good choices. Of course the salad is healthy...they have lowfat italian dressing (most people don't know this), or you could go without dressing altogether. And the minestrone soup is only about 100 calories per serving. You can substitute most noodle dishes for their whole wheat noodles...however, some things come pre-made... Limit or stay away from the breadsticks, cream based sauces, the potato soup, cheesy dishes, etc. Unfortunately I was once an OG server ;) Good luck! |

I have been that girl that didn't want to hurt a guys feelings...I ended up fleeing the state after being stalked, and beaten into the hospital when an ex broke into my house in the middle of the night. Not saying that all guys are psycho...but you never know. If you have a bad feeling and you don't want this guys attention anymore, It's important to be firm, not necessarily mean, in your message to convey just that. When you play around with your words, tip toeing around someones feelings, it leaves too much room and loop holes for different interpretations. He won't take you seriously if you're not firm and confident when you say you don't want him to contact you anymore. Try something like..."My feelings are not the same as when we first started emailing. I am ending communication with you. Best wishes." |

| The Lounge | What exactly do you consider Cheating???? | Mar 17 2009 14:47 (UTC) |
5 |
My "rule" in relationships is "don't do anything you wouldn't want the other person to do"...I think cheating is all about the intentions or feelings behind the actions, words or thoughts... Cheating in my book could be anything from buying a girl a drink in a bar, dancing, frequent phone conversations, holding hands, kissing, hugging, sex, etc. with romantic/sexual desires and feelings behind them. However if there were absolutely no feelings or motive behind it, and my boyfriend ran into a girl he went to highschool with and bought her a drink or something, I wouldn't consider that cheating. Keep a pure heart, don't do things you absolutely wouldn't mind your SO doing, and don't hide things from your SO...then it's not cheating. |

haha...that's so funny...I was just talking about this last night! It's not fair that during the summers when we were kids, we could just eat ice cream all day long, run around smiling and screaming, without a care in the world! lol I seriously plan almost everything in my day around counting now. I plan my entire day's worth of food according to my intake, decide what exercise program I'll be doing according to my intake or visa versa, I look at restaurant menus before hand and decide what I'll eat, I track every calorie eaten and burned as accurately as I can in a document on my phone and log them at the end of the day, etc. I am not overweight, however looking to lose a few pounds and lean out. Call it obsessive or whatever, but I enjoy it now...do you think we could start listing calorie counting as a hobby??? ;) |

I am now a grad student, have been financially independent since leaving home at 18, and I work....a lot too! As an undergrad with 18+ credits per semester I worked front desk 40 hours a week, and kept my grades up. You have to do what you need to in order to get by...I know how that is. Be proud that you have an amazing work ethic--which is rare these days. I moved up to front desk co-manager my 3rd year of college, working 50+ hours a week with 18+ credits per semester...tough, but it's been worth it. I like the responsibility and the stability. I know exactly how this kind of load and obligation feels. Especially with boyfriends on scene. I've been through a couple...the guy that took ill advantage of my time at the office...the guy that was intimidated by my independence...and my current boyfriend who works as hard as I do, and appreciates a hard-working, dedicated, independent woman. We see each other pretty much every day even for a little bit, and make the absolute best of it. Hopefully your bf will learn that this is a tribute to the hard working person you are, and he'll realize that means you don't give up on things, or put forth half-hearted effort, and when things settle down, you guys will have more time together. GOOD LUCK! |

Original Post by tealpenguin326: Sweetheart...I'd say your body just got really confused with all the ups and downs. It sounds like after stabilizing and settling at a reasonable intake your metabolism is firing up again. You should lose steadily and healthily now. I just increased to 1500-1700 calories a day from well under 1200 calories, and I'm up 2 pounds in a little over a week...however, it could be "monthly" weight gain as well. I feel huge and bloated...but hopefully my metabolism will jumpstart and I'll be able to lose and maintain healthily. I'm just going to stick with the calorie intake I'm at now, continue to exercise, drink plenty of water, sleep enough, and ignore the couple pounds I might gain in the beginning to obtain healthy weight loss and reach my weight goal. GOOD LUCK, and just stick with the higher calorie intake...I think it's normal to gain a few pounds increasing calories with an abused metabolism, but I think you'll be happy in the end. |

My live-in-cheating-ex-boyfriend gave me an infection that went undiagnosed for about 2 years. I ended up with pelvic inflammatory disease, which caused my insides to swell. I had large kidney stones, UTI, painful swelling in my woman organs and other lower abdominal organs, kool-aide red pee, and horrible ovarian cysts. Not saying this is even close to what you have, just that it could be something more serious than not. Even if it's nothing major it's crucial that you follow up! |

Like the previous two posters, I look up and decide what I'll eat ahead of time also. I plan my intake, menu, and exercise every day and I stick to it! If you really want that burger or something higher in calories at the restaurant every once in awhile, make up for it by planning it into your calorie intake and perhaps exercising a little more that day. Splurging is okay in moderation. |
