I am still coping with body image issues at 48.  Had an interesting experience when my daughter and I went on a trip together and when we got home and looked at the photos, she had taken one of me from behind and at first, I couldn't understand why she snapped this picture of a stranger.  The person in the photo looked normal sized to me and that is not how I see myself...

Weight Loss Does Anyone Here Ever Get Hungry????? Sep 20 2008

Besides making sure you are eating good food with lots of healthy protein and nutrients, check your activity level.  Are you doing the activity log? If you are very active physically you might need more calories.  I know on my active days I can easily eat 2300 and am still losing weight because I burn so much.

I also think that for some people a gradual reduction is better to help your body adjust to less food.  My stomach as adjusted and I just can't eat the volumes I used to eat.

Weight Loss Dinner Calories Sep 19 2008

I try to save a lot of calories for dinner.  I am a mom with teenagers and it is our "family" time about 50% of the week.  I lost my job and am not working so am trying to do a lot of healthy cooking but still it can use up a lot of calories.  I think it is ok to do this. I have lost about one pound a week for the last 9 weeks and on those dinner days, I eat over half my calories after 5:00 pm.

Weight Loss Breakfast activates hunger? Sep 17 2008

I have the same problem. I wake up around 5 am, have a couple of hot drinks and am not interested in eating until 8 or 9.  If I eat within a couple hours of waking up, I eat more all day long. I am seriously, unstoppably hungry by 10 if I eat breakfast by 6:30.

I used to worry about trying to get breakfast in earlier but now I do what works for my body.  Later breakfast, normal lunch, snack, supper

I don't know if bland makes you hungrier or just less satisfied.

I will say that when I have a bad cold and lose my sense of taste/smell, I have very little interest in eating - obviously for me, taste is a big part of why I eat

Depending on them and you,  in my family for "office" type gifts, we give to charities in the name of the people in the office group.

Kiva.com does microloans and your office group can actually see who gets the loans and when they get paid back

Heifer Project International is a wonderful organization that you can donate to that buys farm animals for poor people all over the world for food and income - you can choose ducks or bees or a cow etc

There may be some charity that is close to the heart of the folks you have worked with.

Anyway, just a thought

Foods Bars: Friend of Foe Sep 11 2008

What kind of bars are you eating?  I agree, some are just not that good for me.

however, they are handy when I am on the run. I do like LUNA Bars because it is like having a candy bar :) but I get some healthy out of it. Most of them have about 180 cal, 9 g protein, 30 carbs, and other good stuff but yes, 14 g sugar.

I also have tried Melaleuca Pro Flex those have 15 grams of protein but I find I can't eat a whole one and Melaleuca products are too expensive.

The shakes have protein and a lot of good healthy stuff in them in a relatively small amount of calories. Mine are a total of 200 cals with milk.  I use them to replace a meal every other day or so.  Or for a healthy snack.  It has helped my keep my calorie count under control while still getting good nutrition.

Weight Loss Keeping you confort food around the house ? Will you binge if you do? Sep 08 2008

I can't keep stuff in the house, my binging habits are just not broken yet, but it is hard because I am not the only one who lives here!

However, I will allow myself a single serving treat, frozen yogurt or something that I eat and enjoy but then there aren't three more servings sitting in my freezer calling to me.

Foods eggplant Sep 03 2008

a lowfat way to use eggplant in any recipe - I put it on pizza, in lowfat eggplant parmesean, grill it, anything that uses eggplant, I do this first

preheat oven to 425

peel and slice the eggplant about 1/2 inch thick

spray cooking spray on a cookie sheet

cook eggplant for about 7 minutes

flip each slice

cook for 7 more minutes

use eggplant as directed in recipes except skip the added fat most recipes have that help cook the eggplant cause now it is most of the way cooked.

Weight Loss Weight Loss Drugs To Help Lose the Last 10 Pounds? Sep 03 2008

I don't know anything about weight loss drugs except to say that if a friend asked me about them, I would say don't use them.

If your photo is you, you look like a model and those last pounds that you feel you need to lose actually belong on you.  If you have been exercising a lot, you have built up muscle that weighs more than the fat you used to have.

Congratulations are your successes!

Right now I am crazy for Trader Joes Kettle Corn - sweet and salty - not too bad on the calorie count but I can eat A LOT of it.

Also, love ice cream - I am trying to only stick with frozen yogurt and buying it one serving at a time, not keeping any in the freezer

scales are really frustrating and I found myself not entering what the scales really said on my weight log.  That was interesting in and of itself.  So I decided to just honestly enter what my scale said.  My graph goes up and down all the way across BUT the trend line is a consistent downward line.  Try to focus on the trend line.  If that is going in the right direction over time then so are you.

Fitness I can't get and STAY motivated....please someone kick my butt and HELP! Aug 19 2008

I feel very similar to you in starting, quitting, mad at myself, disgusted.  (I am 14 years past the birth of my last child)

What did it for me was my 17 year old daughter who in the past year has put on weight saying "This is the one thing in my life that I am so unhappy about and it is something that is completely in my own control, yet I don't change"  Those words coming out of her mouth were the power that turned my life around.  Now I am in the right mindset, losing weight s-l-o-w-l-y, filling my home with healthy good foods and modeling the right behavior for her as much for me. (I lose sleep over worrying about her being overweight, the ultimate curse in my mind)

So starting now, forget the past, eat healthy, count those calories, exercise, love yourself and your family enough to do what will make you happy.
