Original Post by lucylocket1966: Protein-wise, string cheese is like mozza, but really any preportioned kid snack cheese will do (as long as it's 100% real cheese) they tend to be around 100cals a serving. Turkey or chicken I get fresh slices from the deli (no sulphates or salt and additives) or to save money broil/boil some chicken and slice it for sandwiches, again about the portion size for me (not a meal more of a supplement to a meal). I'm not looking to make a sandwich just get some extra protein (on top of the sandwich I ate for lunch! haha) Training, I race bikes and run so I burn a lot of calories. I started out slow, couldn't run a block to save my life but now I run long cross country races, mountain bike and race duathlons. I'm slow but tenacious! I have my first 25km (just over half marathon) mountain goat race coming up this fall! If I had horses I would ride every day! That and mucking stalls must burn tonnes! What I had to learn was that just because I was active didn't mean I could eat a lot more. It's easy to say I ran an hour so I can eat a whole extra meal, it doesn't quite work out the same. And forget it if you DON'T train one day, that extra appetite doesn't go away so you still want extra calories that you haven't burned. |

I understand the knowing exactly what you're bingeing on but not being able to stop, you are taught to count after all it becomes second nature. After logging my food for a long time I found a pattern (in my eating) of good, good, good, binge, good, good, good, binge and the subsequent reason (for me) was I was super restrictive (but not necessarily low cal) just thinking too much about food and interestingly I wasn't getting enough protein. Two things that helped me; protein at every meal ( I always have string cheese, turkey slices and boiled eggs in the fridge ), a very small amount helps (like 1 ounce) and if I feel a binge it's usually ONE thing I'm looking to satiate. So I take one SMALL bite of whatever I think it is and if that's not it, I toss it. I know, wasteful, BUT I could binge on a few hundred calories or a few thousand, you do the math. And just in case someone thinks that's obsessive, I eat 1500 cals a day, more when I train (like 2500) and sometimes saying no just isn't gonna happen. |

Hi everyone! My names Jett and I would love to join your group. I just turned 40 and joined cC last year. My top weight was 237 and I'm 5'7" but I haven't seen that number in a long time. I've managed to drop around 10 pds a yr and am now 185, however the last year or two I've just fluctuated up and down 10 pds. I excercise quite alot, and race bikes and run, however I'm very very slow, I just live in a very active town! I usually check in once a week but I'm a lurker too (tee hee). Regarding the sugar question, on 1350 cal diet, 10% would be 135 calories not grams, their are 4 calories in 1 gram of sugar, so that equals 34 grams technically. Yes I am a numbers geek, it's my profession actually, haha! |

I used to be the same B L D plus 2 snacks, but I got sick of planning and counting my food all day, especially if I'm hungry. So I got into the habit of preparing my days food, put it in a big bag/bowl, then eat what ever I want from it during the day. I know I'm within my calories, I can eat what ever I want and I only have to think about it once (I lost around 20 pds doing this!) |

I'm known for my love of dorks and nerds because inside that's how I feel. However, that said, I always end up with the pretty jerk boys because those are the guys that ask me out for my "interesting" looks! haha My sisters bf is a jock boy type and when he asked what kind of guy I liked and I said NERD nice boys, he said no way would any guy like that ask me out. I've dated a few nice boys and each time I had to pursue them. Nuff said, yes you need to get in the game, the game of asking and putting yourself out there, nobody meets their soul mate at home watching tv. You'll be surprised what girls are out there hoping you will ask them out. |

Yup, I've done that, spray with a little cooking spray, add salt and bake in a hot oven (around 400) but watch out they burn fast. Tastes almost like a potatoe chip! |

oh i am so bad for this too! I call it the nibbleees, and I just can't stay away from the cereal box. I tried drinking tons of herbal tea but it's chewing I really want. So I sometimes chew gum or brush my teeth and use mouthwash, that makes everything taste gross. And sometimes I just give in and go for the 100 cal serving items. |

Last WI - 176 Today - 179.6 Hello everyone, Just checking in to send my best wishes and withdraw from the challenge. I've had a few up/down weeks with my health, eating habits and motivation, so I decided to take my competitive self out and focus on getting better. For those that read my journals you'll know that I had major surgery back in June and was bedridden for a month. I then went on to compete in some big running/biking races that I had signed up for before my surgery. Too much too soon is an understatement. I'm banned from lifting more than a finger for the next 3 months so I'm going to take this time to heal and maintain (or lose slowly) rather than push myself to lose weight. The competitor in me cannot sit still so maintenance and no sugar are best for me right now. I'm happy to have dropped another 15pds from my frame since joining CC from a high of 237, chip chip chip away at it, it really works and these challenges are a big part of it. I hope to join up with you all again in January! Jett |

Here is what a friend of mine does. He doesn't drink at all but hates spending all of his conversation explaining why, so he buys a bottle of beer, dumps it, fills it with water, and chugs on it all night. Looks like he's drinking, doesn't have to explain himself. Me, I drink soda water with a lime in it and if people ask I say I'm drinking vodka soda (which I do occassionally) |

First off, Go to a doctor! Being dieters doesn't make us experts! But don't be afraid to go to the doctor. I've had anxiety disorder, to the point of passing out. The heart palpitations happen anytime, happy, sad, active, just totally out of the blue, so it could still just be anxiety. They (for me) were also a side effect of hyperthyroidism. I don't take any pills, just knowing what it was helped take away the anxiety. Just the fact that it's happening at the same time at night for you is suspicious because you might be sitting in bed waiting and worrying for it to happen. Or laying down could be tripping up you heart, only a doctor knows for sure. |

Remember, it takes 3,500 extra calories over your daily burn rate to GAIN 'one' actual pound. I would eat lots of vegies and have a normal dinner and not dwell on it. |

I've been working on my 5k time. I've never been in a race, and I've never really paid attention to how fast I can run, just how long. (I'm just now able to finish 3 mi or so without stopping) so now I'm shifting my attention to time. I suppose I should look into some advice from people who know what they're talking about and not just wing it, but already it has really intensified my treadmill workouts. Fun! Some unrequested advice only because Cordie knows I'm obnoxious. INTERVALS! 2mins at your normal pace, 2 minutes give'n'r, over and over. This teaches your legs a new turnover pace and when you go back to an easy run at your regular pace you will feel ssssooooooo sssssllllllllloooooooowwwwwwww. :P |

LW - 185 CW - 176.8 Loss - 8.2pds! Just goes to show that binges are usually only water unless you give them a week to grow. Before turkey lurkey, I was 181 (2 weeks ago) so it makes sense to be down 4 from that. I didn't do much differently, I ate exactly 500 under my daily burn. But I have been sick with a cold this week and I haven't wanted food so I haven't been nibbling (still ate 1450 every day!) and I drank a truckload of green/ginger tea. |

| Weight Loss | Weight Watcher or Calorie Count? Do you think points add up right? | Oct 19 2008 20:09 (UTC) |
5 |
Hmmm alot of similarity, lose around 20- 25 pds and taper, me too! Coach K is right, the points 'average' to around 50 cals a point. Mine was set to 24 (1200) cals, but what you have to consider is they don't count most vegetables and high fiber foods give you more food per volume. Plus you have 35 extra points (5 per day av) to use over the week. So really if you are eating what they consider a healthy diet; high fiber foods with lot's of vegetables (0 points) plus your extra weekly points, you would be adding 250 - 500 a day to your minimum calories, which is around what CC says to eat. The problem is eating only the minimun and not enough fibre/vegies, then the diet has some flaws. I found it an easy way to count things though, and the fiber average ended up being 5gms fiber = 1 less point. So if you think about it, 25 grams a day = 5 extra food points a day. 24 pts 5pts for 25gms fiber 5pts for weekly additions = up to 34 points a day or 1700 cals Make sense? Yes I'm a numbers geek. |

Original Post by saarap: Hi saarap Welcome and good job on the changes in your life. Just an idea, I don't know what calories you're eating, but when I first started, heck whenever I re-start a diet, I'm always super keen and I end up eating too little for my current weight/exercise routine. If fact when I started eating more (I got a little lazy in my counting) I dropped 4 pds! Just goes to show! haha |

Hi everyone, Just posting an introduction as there are a lot of new members here and a lot of continuing challengers from the Sept challenge HI! I would describe myself as an overweight athlete. Don't get me wrong I was once quite overweight (for my size) and over the last 9 years I've managed to burn off around 60pds YIKES! I live in a very active ski resort, so that helps a lot. I'm still around 35 pds overweight and I'm chipping away at it whenever I can, these groups help a lot. I'm very much into mountain bike racing, 10km running races and duathalons and I compete all summer long, which makes weight loss more difficult actually. The last challenge I was only able to drop around 5pds but I'm hoping for a more drastic change in this challenge to help me get ready for ski season races! I'm living proof that although being overweight makes racing or exercising harder it doesn't make it impossible, it just takes you a little longer....haha |

Hi Just thought I'd post from the other side of the coin, so to speak. I met a wonderful man that I really connected with. We had that first flush of feelings and hormones, one thing led to another and well you get the drift. The day after he informs me that he cheated on his long term girlfriend with me the night before, who I later found out was 8 months pregnant. Obviously we never slept together again but between wanting to kill him and wanting to have him I asked him why? Why would he put that guilt on me, on himself and why would he do that to his poor girlfriend. His reason? Emotions. He said that while he had cheated in the past with previous girlfriends, this one he'd gone 5 years monogamous and thought she was the one. But being away from her, in a town full of beautiful women, and his girlfriend calling him dalily and yelling at him, he got mad. Nice to say to me, but really a guy who cheats is pretty selfish anyway isn't he. In the end, he went home and continued his life with her, I still don't know if he told her and he still tries to keep in contact with me. We really did have a great connection and I still think when he gets upset with the emotional side of his relationship he looks for a disconnect. Thankfully he lives on the other side of the world. |

I have similar dry patches and extremely sensitive skin with allergies. Two things that helped me were an OTC cream called Glaxyl Base and another one with wax called Prevenex?? or something like that. You can go to a steroid cream but the effect is cumulative. Meaning that the more you use it, the more you have to take, or it loses it's effectiveness. |
