One year I was making buckeyes for everyone as X-mas presents. I had 2 large trays of them (about 45-50 each) on the dining room table waiting for the chocolate to set up. I walked through the next morning and saw only 1 tray. I looked around and found the plastic wrap on the chair and the tray on the floor.

My black lab got up there and ate a whole tray of them at night. She was sick for 2 days. She puked and had diarrhea all over herself. What a mess! Poor thing didn't eat anything for 2 days. We're lucky we had hardwood floors. She made the mess all over her blanket.

I can relate just imagine a snow white dog....and white berber carpet...not pretty.

Mooni, your dog looks cute (I especially love the "nose view").

I bet she'd eat canned cranberry crap.

But you can't expect good taste from a dog.

Wink

Poor Bunker isn't feeling well today. B gave her some scraps from the fridge and the potatoes were spicy and she got diarrhea and it was gross. She had an accident in the house in the middle of the night. She had the saddest look on her face this morning, "Sorry Mom".

 *winces*

Sammy (my black lab mix) got into a package of chocolate almond bark several years ago.  It wasn't pretty, though it smelled faintly of chocolateUndecided.

Hope she recovers quickly.

Sorry this made me giggle...only because one Christmas someone decided to buy one of those EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA LARGE Hershey Chocolate bars with nuts...of course it was wrapped and under the tree....guess who got it opened....ate all of it...(my previous Maltese)....of course you probably can guess what things were like...its funny now but then it wasnt too funny...from that point on we asked or opened an end to make sure no edible items were left unattended under the tree LOL

I always make a raw cranberry orange relish by putting a well washed orange, peel and all, and a package of cranberries into the processor with sugar.  Grind it all up and let it sit in the refrigerator for a day.

However, my family MUST have their canned cranberry jelly.  It used to be my job to open both ends of the can and push it out onto the special cut glass dish then slice it neatly.  Now the can is molded on the bottom so you can't cut it out and the damned stuff is almost impossible to remove in one piece.  I hate anyway.

OMGoodness yes!  WTF is up with that?

 Oh no....say it isnt so....

I can say in my experience tattoos are not widely accepted today in the professional work environment.  I think as long as you can conceal them thats ok...but if they were to be in a location where its highly visible I think there might be some push back on the acceptance.  Again just my experience.

Yes I have been there....I went from 210 to 140 lbs....what I did was box all my stuff (actually I used the space bags) that was too big and then put them out of sight in the attic...my goal at the time was if I didnt gain any weight after a year then I would give the clothes to goodwill....I kept the weight off for a year...and I gave it to goodwill.

Let me go on record....I personally believe a lot of folks use the site for its intended purpose...but then there are some (and lately I think there are more) individuals who appear to be looking to use it to fuel their obsession.

I applaud those who use CC to make themselves better....to get the facts (or in some cases fiction)....know what paths worked and didn't work for others while they take on a personal battle with their health, and their life.  I personally just get that hair raising on my neck when I see the posts that appear to go against that grain.  I could probably do nothing and just ignore that its happening but that would go against my personal nature.  I always taught the young men and women who I served with one fundamental phrase to remember and it goes like this..."if you see a piece of trash on the ground and you pass by it without picking it up (regardless of who through it there) then you inadvertently set a standard"....that standard is its ok to throw it on the ground....so after awhile the trash just piles up....sounds stupid but it sort of fits what GI-Jane was saying earlier...if we see a post that appears to go against the standard...get involved...police up the garbage.

Again thanks to all.

Not sure if its just me but it just seems like a lot of posts here on CC are from young adults (12-18 yrs old) all trying to loose some weight.  Lately it looks like most that were trying were at a good weight level to start with...what is disturbing is the number of individuals with ED.

I guess I am wondering has anyone noticed this or maybe its just me?

I am wondering is this the progression line for a person who trys to get their weight under control to end up obsessed to the other extreme?

Uh, Dave, those are pre-teens (12) and teenagers (13-18).

Thanks...I stand corrected....below is my edited version...the point is still the same...

I am disgusted by the number of people who like the canned cranberry jelled crap!

 I really mean this.!

Haha, I do not doubt your sincereity by any means! :) But it will forever be a staple at any Thanksgiving I attend.

I'm glad I'm not a member of your family.

It wouldn't really matter, would it? I'd just be sure to sit across from you so we can both be apalled by what the other decides to eat, and enjoy the looks of disgust on the other person's face. And then I can be thankful that I have gross cranberry canned crap to eat and you can be thankful that you're not eating it. Win-win.

I wouldn't sit across from you. I'd make a big deal about how that crap wouldn't be served when I'm around and then you'd have a T-day without the canned cranberry jelled crap and you'd be sad and mad and I'd be laughing.

I'm bigger and meaner than you are and I would win this battle.

Ahhhh, the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

Can't we all just get along?  LOL

Thanks for all the suggestions.  Now I just have to decide!

Dave:  They're friend we've known for a few years.  It's a pretty relaxed thing.  Actually, we tend to cook together several times a year, but I wanted to cook for them because they're such nice people.  I have no need to 'impress' them, but I do want it to be yummy!

I would say if they are good friends then you probably have a pretty good idea what they like to eat...so any of these ideas that were given will work fantastic.

I wasnt trying to form any revolt or a revolution...my concern I think is more for the people who are looking for approval and assistance among the site to fuel their disease.  I guess the best way I can frame it is that its like helping a crack addict find and buy crack...and if they cant find or buy it then to help them with clear instructions how to make their own.  I just noticed it seemed like a lot of it...and I was wondering was it just me that had seen this or were others noticing this trend.  I guess my final wish is for those who need real help to please ask....for those who are using this for self-destruction I wish you the ability to find happiness and get HELP before its too late.

I am not sure who you are having over for the dinner but if I know them fairly well I might ask them for some ideas of what they enjoy eating...then try to work it in...if you dont think it would be appropriate to ask then I might try serving either a tenderloin (wrapped in bacon) or chicken breasts (lemon peppered).  If I felt I might want to impress with my cooking savy I might cook up on a cedar plank some salmon (light coating of honey, sesame seeds, and a slice of lemon and orange.

If they were BUDs then I would pull out the stops and cook up some gator and bison steaks and go all out.

EWW, my dad doesn't want that from me!  A lot of these other ideas are good though.... Thanks!  The problem I have with tech gifts is that people are pretty particular about what they want if they're into tech stuff, so it's hard to pick something out without them telling you the exact specific model they want, and then they know what they're getting Undecided

Well if he is a "tech" guy then maybe if you know where he buys his stuff the most you could get him a gift card from there?

I am going to say this without prejudice or malice in my heart...."if you dont like the answer - dont ask the question"....and  "if you dont like whats on - turn the channel"

Now having said all that... "I" didnt take anything GI Jane said to be rude or unhelpful.  Again if what I said above hurts your feeling see my quotes above and apply (or dont and you are more than happy to email me a private message) I know how to hit the delete button.

Bunker, that's the yellow lab you see in my profile pic, is a big baby. Labs are big babies. Expect him to follow you all over the house. Talk to him as you move from room to room so that he feels you want him. If you get up to go to another room ask him if he's coming.

Bunker will always lay outside the bathroom door as you shower or do your business. She loves to push the door open if you don't shut it tightly.

LOL I think I have the queens of big babies...of course I dont help it by spoiling them but hey I dont have anyone else here to spoil so its ok...every morning when I do my sit ups I get a chest full of and kisses from the 2 little monsters.  Its cute because Missy will lay dead on my chest to get my attention.  After the workout and hot tub I go to shower and shave and they both are in their dog bed watching me.  In the evening when I am sitting down to read or watch tv Nikki has to be in my lap or between my legs.  When I go to bed they climb up (using doggie stairs) and get into bed...even thou they have a dog bed on the floor next to the bed.   BTW I rescued Missy from a puppy mill...she was in bad shape but shes filled out great.  She still has issues but all in all shes a good dog.

Congrats to both of you....I spent 23 years in the Army and still serve side by side with them today as a civilian.  If you are both joining the Army NG then the APFT standards are available to review.  I can say if you plan to get in physical shape for the APFT prior to going to basic training then concentrate on the events.  You can train for other things but the APFT is GRADED by the events in the APFT so it wont mean a thing if you can do 100 one arm push-ups what does matter is the number of CORRECT push-ups in a set period of time.  If either of you need to ask questions if I can help please feel free to contact me...I will be glad to help if I can.

Original Post by specca:

hey guys.

I know that about 99% of people these days say that the best way to lose weight is to do a low carb, low calorie, high protein diet (duh...thats how i lost a bunch of weight a couple years ago)

anyways, I HATE HIGH PROTEIN DIETS...but i love carbs and fat, so obviously i could not stand doing the high protein diet for too long.

Have any of you noticed any differences from changing your macronutrient ratios? differences from going low carb to high carb? high protein to low protein?

any input is appreciated.

I dont follow the low carb etc fads....like it was already said above those high fat, no carb, all meat etc diets are just that...short term diets....great for immediate reduction however, is this something you can do for the rest of your life?  If it isnt then I would suggest looking at a healthier alternative plan.  I lost 70 lbs and have managed to keep it off for a bit now.  BTW I consume about 300-350 grams of carbs a day (thats right a DAY).

Hi - let me be one of several to applaud your kindness and rescuing your new addition to your family.  Also let me say that the vet is correct...the dog will eat when he is ready...right now he is a little stressed out....not sure where he is and is trying to get used to his new surroundings....just keep putting the food and water down for him.  I would also recommend not giving the milk bones (or cutting back) because he is supplementing the not eating with them.  Not long ago my ex-wife and I owned a pet sitting business together a technique that can be used (you can try it) is get some food from the bowl and try to hand feed him....in other words take some from his bowl and hold it in your hand (open)...or put a few on the floor for him.  It might sound strange but some dogs get a little bowl shy.  As for the kennel/cage that is a good idea...it allows them a place that they can feel safe.

As far as names lol you are on your own...for as many names as I have heard there are many more out there...my two Maltese (both females) are Nikki and Missy.
