The Lounge Mineral Makeup? Jul 29 2009

Step 1- Go to a department store and Choose Clinique, MAC, Benefit, or Bare Minerals. Or talk to all of the reps. They will probably all be knowledgeable. Whatever the brand, make sure they ask your skin type, and choose a foundation accordingly. Clinique has a good questionnaire to help determine this.

Bare Minerals is a great option if you tend to break out. However, it is very light and doesn't bode well on my oily face.

So if you are looking for more coverage, it isn't the best. While it goes on nicely, it doesn't stay on all day and requires more touch-ups than other foundations. Light, like I said. Good for keeping acne under control, not great at hiding it.

I like Benefit playsticks as my foundation, with a good moisturizer (like Benefit or MAC or even Neutrogena). But I also use Bare Minerals as a powder, if I need to touch up.

I think most people like Bare Minerals- myself included. It's worth a try, but if you have dry skin, you'll need a good moisturizer. Those powders tend to accentuate the little flaky pieces of skin.

The Lounge Your Boring Name--love it or hate it?? Jul 10 2009

My mom's name is Anale (pronounced Anna Lee)

People pronounce it A-Nail or A-Nall-ee and since her last name is sooo long, often the "E" gets cut off all together, leaving just Anal.

So she gave me a boring, non-nickname-able name, Lauren.

And yet, people shorten it all the time. LoLo, Elle, even Laurie sometimes.

I am currently in a very similar situation.....

I started dating a friend's cousin, mostly because I loved his family.

I, however, did not find myself attracted to him physically. But he was SO nice, smart, and funny, we continued to date.

Lack of physical attraction made the bedroom stuff awkward and BAD.

But after a few months of getting to know the guy better and REALLY starting to fall for him, I find I am very much attracted to him physically, and bedroom stuff has amazingly improved.

Goes to show you ought to be in a committed, monogamous relationship before you hit the sheets. But that's not the point.

I say GIVE HIM A CHANCE!!!

You might change your mind with time.  "Nobody's perfect until you fall in love with him."

EDIT: I'm going to go post a picture of us in my gallery. I'm THAT into him right now :)

The Lounge Should the Burka be banned? Jun 26 2009
19:30 (UTC)

I just got back from Egypt, where I spoke with a woman who wore the full burka- it was over 100 degrees, and she was in black from head to toe, even gloves. Even her eye slits had a veil over them. It was CREEPY. But she explained that it was her way of being conservative and modest. Only her husband got to see the goods.

Honestly, while I was there, I wish I had grabbed my own burka. Anyone who had an elbow showing was whistled at, cat-called, blown kisses....men offered my dad all sorts of things in exchange for me- camels, chickens, boats... and I had long sleeves and a long skirt.

I would never vote to ban any sort of clothing though. That'd be crazy censorship...freedom of expression should always be protected, no matter how offensive. As long as it's not disruptive or hurtful, I would't back any ban on certain clothing.

EDIT: In Egypt, approx 98% of the women had their hair covered, while about 75% wore the full burka. Most of the people wearing jeans were younger girls/women.

Weight Gain Meal plan for bulimics Jun 26 2009
18:56 (UTC)

I've been dealing with some of those issues for years now, and the only way to stop the binge/purge cycle is to STOP weighing yourself for a few weeks. Track your caloric intake, eat well, and KNOW your trigger foods/situations. Avoid them.

Example: I know I binge on peanut butter. I don't keep it in the house. I also know I go overboard on food when I drink. I stopped drinking temporarily. This one is HUGE for me.

Once you get in the swing of things- with good diet and exercise- you'll lose the desire to binge/purge as often. AND you'll lose the weight and puffy face. It will take time. It took me six months to lose 11 lbs. THAT was hard. But it was soooo worth it.

I can't say I'm completely out of the danger zone, as I slip back into it once in a while, but it's far less frequent now that I've seen the results- my face in pictures looked so gross.

Throwing up food only eliminates UP TO 50% of the calories you ate- no matter how hard you try to rid your body of the binge food, you are still taking in a ton of calories- hence the reason we tend to gain, not lose.

It's a horrible thing to deal with, and if I was brave enough, I would've gotten professional help. But this website is fantastic.

Good luck to you. Stay strong.

UD!

Your picture is on Patterson Pass!  I grew up on both sides of that- Bay area and Mountain House.

I always admired anyone brave enough to bike that road- shortcut-loving commuters are extremely reckless during certain hours, and even on weekends the turns are almost completely blind.

It's a beautiful drive though- I used to do it to clear my head

Weight Loss Any other ladies with FOUR different pant sizes in their closet??? Jun 23 2009

Uggg this is a problem for me right now. I have size 10s  from when I was at my heaviest (for many years), and size 6s from when I was at my lightest (about 5 months ago). Right now, I've gained some back and I'm an 8- and I don't own any 8s!

But I sure as heck am not about to go buy some. I'll just saggy-butt it for a while until I gain or lose....hopefully lose.

My dad used to feed me his lemon peels after they'd been soaked in his scotch...when I was a toddler.

Since then, I've always loved to eat lemons and lemon peels. However, I've never considered them a snack. I just ate them after drinking my beverage.

But I was sitting here with a lemon in front of me and stevia in my desk, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Delicious! Granted, it had been soaking in my lipton tea for most of the morning.

I'm going back to school to get my MS in speech pathology and audiology so I can hang out with preschoolers all day.

Trader Joes makes these high-fiber Os that have 9 grams per serving- I've always been irregular, but found that one serving of these and a few cups of water does the trick every day!

and of course, less meat/dairy and more fruits and veggies.

Peanut butter and Nutella- two spreads I am NOT allowed to eat. I honestly can not control myself and will go into full-binge mode if I have any.

I keep some around for emergencies, but I know I won't stop once I start...so I just don't start.

Good luck. I call it a "gateway" food because it always leads to serious indulgence.

My parents taught me to never spend what I didn't have. I didn't open up a credit card until I was 23 and only because my landlord didn't like my lack of credit. Kind of ridiculous I think.

They also taught me to love travel- be it by car, bus, train, plane or sea.

The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks.

First and last NS book I ever read. It was about a woman and her dog. It was terrible. Don't read it.

If you hate The Grapes of Wrath, I recommend East of Eden- Steinbecks' masterpiece.

Weight Loss I want to quit drinking... Apr 17 2009
21:32 (UTC)

Yeah, I quit drinking for about six months and lost about 20 lbs. Started again, and the weight is creeping back. It's a trade-off for me. I have a similar problem- once I start, it's hard to stop. I can throw back quite a few.

Not good. Anyway, after a few weeks of not drinking, I'm feeling pretty good and I'm not that tempted. It's hard to just quit, especially if you're a social drinker. There is so much pressure.  Good luck to you.

Ohhhh Nutella. I am not allowed to buy Nutella anymore. I can't keep my fingers, spoons, forks, or knives out of the Nutella. I can finish a small jar in two days. Very bad.
